Left Behind: A One-Shot Audio Drama

Left Behind: A One-Shot Audio Drama

Project Overview

"A young man goes on the search for his long-missing sister after he comes across evidence that she may be alive and well."

"Left Behind" is a one-shot audio drama about a young man named Frank Griffith, who has lost his sister, Aubrey Griffith, many years before the events of the story. One day, whilst hanging out with his closest friend, Anita Boden, Frank comes across photos in Anita's possession that clearly show his sister within them. Demanding answers, Frank pressures Anita, and Anita agrees to take Frank to see Aubrey and find out for himself where Aubrey has been all of these years.

To audition for this project, you need:

  • A  good quality microphone and recording space. If your audio quality is subpar, your audition will be passed over, even if you fit the characters perfectly. Note that I'm not looking for perfect, professional quality (I understand that not everyone has access to that equipment), but it also shouldn't sound horrendous. In addition, do not do any editing to your audition yourself. Record it as dry (without effects) as possible.

  • A Discord account, or be able to make one if you are cast. Discord will be our main form of communication throughout the project's phases.

  • The ability to record into and send WAV files. MP3 is fine for the audition, but if cast, you need to be able to record and send WAV. If you need assistance with this and you are cast, I will gladly help you!

If you are cast for this project, you will be given a copy of the script and be given one week from the time all characters are cast and the project officially begins to record all necessary lines and submit them. If you can get it done faster, that is not only encouraged, but greatly appreciated. However, do not rush! Take your time and do things right to minimize redos. You are also encouraged to ask any and all questions you may have in the discord.

This project is unpaid. If things go well and the project comes out great, you will be among the first considered for when offering paid work becomes a reality for me. I know that my word alone does not mean much, but your efforts and assistance are greatly appreciated both during and after production.

  • Game of Hearts is a one-shot about two friends, Sabrina Larson and Vivienne Shields, who meet up three years after graduating college to catch up over a card game titled "Game of Hearts".

  •  Interrogations is a teaser for an upcoming project about the death of Scott Williams, a star college football player, that is invested by Blake Bauer, in a bizarre case where all four suspects are women.

  • The Interview is a one-shot about a man, James Lombardi, who goes to a job interview for a job he found online. He knows little about this job other than where the interview is being held. His interviewer, a woman who refers to herself as "Applegate", seems normal... or is she?

Latest Updates

  • Project postponed until further notice

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I have to cancel production of this project for now. Thank you to everyone for wanting to be a part of this. In the meantime, I will be posting other projects soon, so if you'd like, keep an eye out for those, but if this has left a sour taste in your mouth and you'd rather not work with me in the future, I completely understand!
  • Apologies for radio silence; casting will conclude October 3rd

Hello everyone. I want to apologize for all of the delays and radio silence on my part. Casting for this project will officially conclude on October 3rd. There will be no additional delays. Once casting concludes, we will move on to putting this project together.
  • Deadline pushed back to September 25th; Update regarding casting

Hello everyone, Unfortunately, the project must be pushed back once more. This should be the last time any delays will occur. I am reaching out to some actors to potentially audition for certain roles, most importantly being Ester, who has yet to receive any auditions. In addition, I've decided to make some important changes to the script that I would like to be ready before casting ends. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to beginning this project as soon as possible!
  • Deadline pushed back to Friday, September 20th

If you have already auditioned and feel as though you can improve based on any criticism you received, you are more than welcome (in fact, you are encouraged) to submit another audition by this date. It is by no means mandatory!

Frank Griffith is the primary lead of "Left Behind". Having not seen his sister for over ten years, Frank has assumed her dead, until he sees a woman he believes is his sister in photos in the possession of his closest friend, Anita Boden.

Frank is a very serious character, as his primary goal is finding his sister at any costs. However, he should not sound too monotone or too "manly". The key to Frank is being able to channel both his frustration and care for both Aubrey and Anita in his lines.

Some additional notes about Frank:

- He is in his early to mid 20's. Keep this in mind.

- His voice should have a lower pitch, though if you capture the character well and do not fit perfectly into the vocal pitch, you can still be cast.

- He can stutter over his words when he is particularly frustrated. However, do not go overboard with this. It is better to not force stuttering at all if you can not do it effectively than it is to try it and not have it work.

  • (To Anita) Are you telling me that you've known where my sister was for two years? Two years, Anita? And you never told me?

  • (To himself) Part of me thinks this is some sort of trick, but... if Aubrey really is out there, I just have to know for sure. No matter what her reason for being gone so long is, I just need to know she's out there and is fine.

Anita is the best friend of Frank, and the one who reveals the existence of Aubrey to him. Anita is a shy, mostly reserved person, and is neither a fan of conflict nor deceit. However, when Aubrey comes to her and coerces her into leading Frank into her grasp, she does so out of the hope that she and Frank will be left alone after the encounter.

Anita cares deeply for Frank, and as such, wants no harm to come to him.

Some notes about Anita:

- She is in her early 20's.

- She does not know Aubrey and Ester's actual plan, only that Aubrey wanted her to bring Frank to Ester.

  • (To Frank) I'm sorry, I know I should've told you about Aubrey, but I wasn't sure if it was really her at first. I had to be sure.

  • (To Ester after Ester hurts Frank) Stop! You said you wouldn't hurt him! You said you just wanted to talk to him!

  • (To Frank) Hey, are you sure you want to do this? I just... I get the strange feeling that Aubrey wants something that you can't give her.

Aubrey Griffith is the older sister of Frank. She has been presumably missing for ten years prior to the events of the story. Frank learns through Anita that Aubrey is not only alive, but has been in contact with Anita for two years. However, unbeknownst to both Frank and (to an extent) Anita, Aubrey is not the woman they thought she was. Aubrey uses Anita against her knowledge to draw out Frank with the help of their mother, Ester, after the latter learns that Frank has been left all of the contents in her dying husband's will.

Aubrey is incredibly sadistic, deriving pleasure from causing pain and humiliation, and this should come through her lines. However, it is important not to make her sound too unhinged: there needs to be a sense of control in her voice, as Aubrey knows full well who she is and what she is doing, and she doesn't care who it hurts.

Some additional notes about Aubrey:

- She is in her mid to late 20's.

- Despite her position, she stills speaks to Frank with a sense of care and love.

- She is very submissive when it comes to their mother, Ester.

  • (To Frank) I must say, the fact that you were able to find me really is amazing! (To Anita) But... you had some help, didn't you?

  • (To Frank after he asks why she has been gone for so long) Oh no! No no no no! That information is on a need to know basis, and you, little brother, are not even close to needing to know!

  • (To Frank after revealing her true identity) Oops, is this not what you expected? Isn't that funny! I didn't expect that Anita would be what it took to get you to crack!

Ester is the mother of Aubrey and Frank, and the main antagonist of the story. After learning that her dying husband has left everything in his will to Frank, Ester coerces Aubrey into helping her deal with Frank however they need to in order to secure the contents of the will for themselves.

Ester is similar to Aubrey in that she is sadistic, however unlike Aubrey, she prefers to keep a calm, calculated persona. She gets easily frustrated with Aubrey at times, however. Despite all of this, she still speaks with a small tint of love for Frank.

Some additional notes about Ester:

- She is in her late 40's/early 50's

- She speaks very calmly, unless she is frustrated, in which her voice takes a sharp, frightening tone.

  • (To Frank) Quite honestly, the only reason I haven't come after you sooner is because I hoped the fool would have changed the will on his own. But as we see, that was not the case.

  • (To Aubrey) Calm yourself, you shortsighted hyena, and try to think more than five seconds ahead, for once!

  • (To Anita) It is unfortunate that you had to get mixed up in all of this... I always thought you would provide such wonderful grandchildren.

A man in a mask that appears at the end of the story. Little is known or revealed other than his acquaintance with Ester. He has only a few speaking lines, two of which are below.

He is intended to sound mysterious, though clearly one of ill intent, as he is working with Ester... or is he?

  • (To Ester) You made an unnecessary mess. I'd suggest you clean it on your own.

  • (To Ester) Whatever. I expect payment by the time we specified. Do not be late.
