Kuni no Senso [EPISODES 1, 2, & 3 VAs; COMPOSERS; ARTISTS/ANIMATORS; AUDIO ENGINEERS; ETC.]

Project Overview

Kuni no Senso is my most ambitious work yet. I consider it to be a work that is monumental in its attention to detail and amazing writing. This casting call will be used to determine which auditions are chosen. Only auditions posted on here will be considered.
The story goes as follows:

Yukan Kenshi is a 15-year-old boy who has an amazing life with his beautiful girlfriend Ite Daitan, a loving family, and a career as a composer. However, his life is turned upside down when Kunshu Mujihina, the ruler nearby country Aotoshi, destroyed his house, killed his entire family, and ordered his henchmen to beat him mercilessly and leave him for dead. After Ite and Yukan are taken in by a 14-year-old Kadaina Meiji, they begin a journey of vengeance. Eventually Yukan finds the Omega Blade, a sword that gives the wielder ludicrous powers.
DISCLAIMER: THIS PROJECT WILL CONTAIN WITHIN IT VARIOUS GRAPHIC MOMENTS, WITH EXTREME VIOLENCE AND SOME FOUL LANGUAGE! DO NOT AUDITION IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 14.

Note: Just because a role says that the character is in a certain age group does not require you to be in that age group. However, it does mean that you must be able to convincingly sound as if you were in that age group with consistency (for example, Oba Meiji is listed as "senior", but if you can sound like a senior citizen convincingly then it doesn't matter whether you're a genuine senior or not.) Also, any roles listed here are solely for Episodes 1, 2, and 3. Episodes 8-10 are not completed in writing and thus do not have any auditions for characters available. We will not recast after episodes 1, 2, and 3 are recorded unless a VA leaves. Any auditions posted on January 18th, 2020 will not be considered unless a recast is necessary.

  • Deadline was delayed for a week

The main man himself, Yukan Kenshi. He is a great leader, compassionate, determined, and extremely clever. Despite this, he is incredibly stubborn and has an intense fear of failure, which is his fatal flaw.

He's about 15 years old and his voice should be a low tenor/high baritone voice. He appears early in the series as a 10 year old as well, so a second take of each line using a more childish voice will also be required.

  • *overcome in rage and sorrow* DAMN YOU ALL! I hope all of you are listening! I will make sure that your cruel empire burns in hell! Especially that tyrant of a king you have!

  • *basically just woke up* Yeah sorry for worrying you… 

  • *explaining something to somebody* That girl at the house we stayed at said he would train us. We need to become stronger so we can beat those creepy dudes.

Ite Daitan, the absolute madlad-or rather, madlass-of the show. For her role, I want a voice that can display an endearing and charming side, but also an ugly side when angered. Ite is very compassionate, clever, and determined, as well as being a fast learner. Despite this, she is obsessive and often paranoid about the well-being of Yukan. This is because she's a bit of a yandere.

Her voice doesn't have any pitch that is set in stone, but she shouldn't sound younger than 14, since she's about 15 years old as well. I don't want an extremely high or extremely low voice. Find a middle ground (instead of soprano or contralto, aim for mezzo-soprano).

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Yukan is pronounced Yuu-kahn

  • *just getting done with a party* (laughing) And I told her, “no, the final was last week” and she totally went pale!

  • *somebody just messed with your man* Get the hell away from him if you know what’s good for you!

  • *somebody close to you is possibly dying* Come on, Yukan. Hang in there please. Please don’t leave me here!

Kadaina Meiji

Kadaina is a 14-year old boy who befriends Yukan and Ite. He is kind, strategic, smart, and very good with magic, but is narcissistic and is often very bad with foresight. 

Kadaina needs to sound distinctly younger than Yukan. 

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Akuni is pronounced uh-KUU-nee

  • *in a helpful way* Fate will deal whatever hand it pleases. I personally think that fate cheats people out of what they deserve. Your friend there is quite hurt.

  • *explaining locations, but NOT LIKE a GPS Text-to-Speech program* This road right here will take you right into the heart of Central Akuni. I have travelled on it many times and you should be okay as long as you don’t run into any issues.

  • *reasoning with someone* It’s a gamble I’ll admit. In chess, the Queen will do anything to protect the King, even if that means sacrificing herself to the opponent.

Kunshu Mujihina

The main antagonist of the series, Kunshu Mujihina is the epitome of the pure evil villain. Kunshu can best be described as stubborn, evil, cheap, and a killer. But other than that, he has some incredible attributes that help him against Yukan, being his cleverness, his power, and his charisma. He also wields the Alpha Sword, a weapon forged by his grandfather, Kawata Mujihina. 

The voice should ooze of charisma.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Shirei is pronounced Shee-ray and Kashikoi is pronounced Cash-ee-koy.

  • *giving a command* Did I ask you to speak? Listen carefully, I’m only going to say it once.

  • *as if getting done with a task and being called in just as you finished with another task* Well, there will always be more cockroaches that need to be dealt with. I’m too bored to stay here any longer, you may do as you please with him, Shirei.

  • *somebody did something unforgivable and they're playing dumb* Cut the crap, Kashikoi. We know you’re hiding your precious little student and the trash he picked up a week ago.

Shirei Akui, a commander under the rule of Kunshu. Shirei is very temperamental, but is loyal to the end. He lives his life trying to show his worth in the eyes of his peers.

His voice should be low, with much grit in the second line.

  • *laying an absolute smack-down* You’re useless! A pathetic excuse for a man.

Yokina is the king of Akuni. He is like a politician, but not corrupt. He understands the weight of his decisions, but he goes overboard on them when he does decide. His cautiousness with any action he takes, however, is also a flaw with him due to the sheer extent of this caution. 

For his voice, I need something very deep. The absolute monarch tone, if you will.

  • *something reminds you of an old friend* The rose… let them pass.

  • *somebody does something drastic* WHAT?! Do you even know what power you wield child?

  • *the insane turns out to be true* Those kids… post message boards to assemble the citizens. I will personally be making an announcement tomorrow morning.

Kashikoi Masuta

Kashikoi Masuta is an elderly man that's been around since the creation of the Fabled Swords. He's also Kadaina's teacher in the art of magic and teaches Yukan and Ite how to defend themselves as well. He's a sort of impulsive person and he's terrible at lying, but he is very skilled in his craft and devoted to the protection of those younger than weaker than him (which is a lot of people, quite frankly)

AUDITION NOTE: In Line 1, pleasant greeting is said almost sarcastically.

  • *facing off the burglars* Well, you two did enter a stranger's house. That is also a pleasant greeting.

  • *answering a question from a student* It depends on how hard the two of you train. I can only nudge you in the right direction and provide you with weapons and techniques.

  • *smugly* Trash? Was he picking up you and your subordinates?

Oto Kenshi

Yukan's dad in the series and where we get most of the information about the world, Oto is essentially the perfect dad (the same way that Hana is the perfect mother). He's somewhat easily swayed towards doing things by his two sons, but he still treats them with love.

For this character, I want a semi-deep voice. He's about 35-40 in the series.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Akuni is pronounced uh-KUU-nee, Aotoshi is pronounced ow-TOH-shee, Medikai is pronounced MEDD-ee-kaie, and Hana is pronounced hah-nah

  • *telling a story* Two countries, Akuni and Aotoshi, were facing harsh times. Food was scarce, medicine close to impossible to get. This was all because Medikai was constantly taking siege upon their land.

  • *teasing the teaser* Lars, don’t go making fun of your brother just because he managed to get a girlfriend before you.

  • *maudlin* Do you remember, Hana? It feels like I met you just yesterday and we decided to have these two. I remember reading them bedtime stories and playing in the yard. Now they are going on dates and finding their own girls-

Lars Kenshi is Yukan's older brother by one year, but is rather childish in comparison. He is an absolute jock, but in the best way.  This is his downfall though, as he doesn't really know when to shut up.

For his voice, I'm not too worried because he only appears in one episode. However, I do care about the quality of the recording just as much. 

NOTE: This character also appears with a younger version, aged 11. A second take should be done with the voice for this part using the lines above.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Yukan is pronounced yoo-kahn

  • *threatening* LISTEN HERE BITCH BOY! I’m going to hit you so hard your grandchildren’s great grandchildren will feel it because you won’t be able to reproduce, you eggplant!

  • *explaining your crippling laziness* It’s fine. Not like I’m TRYING to impress anyone like Yukan. Besides its the weekend.

  • *somebody exposed one of your deep obsessions* I do not, Yukan!

Hana Kenshi is Yukan's mom and the best mother one could imagine. She's got everything: the supportive personality, the overall cheery aura, the dead mother hair-wait a minute.

Hana should sound somewhat mature, as she's somewhere between 35 and 40.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Oto is pronounced ott-oh

  • *finding out somebody deliberately disobeyed an order* There you are, Oto! What are the boys still doing up? 

  • *critiquing your son's choice of attire* Good afternoon, Lars. You forgot to comb your hair again and your shirt is on backwards.


  • *your husbands being dramatic* Yes I know dear. Please stop crying, your making the bread soggy.

Oba Meiji

Oba Meiji is Kadaina's extremely aged aunt. She's extremely compassionate and assists Yukan and Ite on their journey. Despite all of this, she doesn't appear much in the series and has quite a few grey hairs from trying to keep Ani and Shisuta under control. She also happens to be the most knowledgeable magic user in the Meiji family, as she's the only one that can use healing magic. 

Her voice should be mature sounding, but maybe with a weary quality. Despite looking about 65, she's only 34 years old.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Kadaina is pronounced kuh-DIE-nah

  • *your kid hauls in a dead body* Oh dear! Kadaina what on earth happened?

  • *having a casual conversation* They’re good kids, just curious. They’ve had it rough but they are turning out alright. 

  • *a pep talk to a young lass* Love is love. You guys are the ones who love the most. You may be young but you know how to open your hearts to others with the knowledge that someone may shatter it. Yet you keep loving.

Ani is Kadaina's younger brother and Shisuta's twin brother. Similar to Shisuta, Ani is a reckless child who doesn't care if what he says is ruining Kadaina's reputation as a human being. 

Ani's voice should be higher in pitch than most of the other male characters. He is 10 years old after all.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Shisuta is pronounced shee-sue-tuh

  • *smugly* Who is the girl? Did Kadaina actually attract someone from the opposite gender? 

  • *woke up to somebody basically dying* What is going on? Who are these people, Shisuta?

  • *passive-agressive smugness* I approve she seems very nice. I think you should date her-

Shisuta is the younger sister of Kadaina Meiji and is Ani's twin sister. She's the type who really doesn't know when to stop talking and even if she did, she probably doesn't care. Along with Ani, Shisuta could be interpreted as a more comedic relief character. 

For Shisuta's voice, I want a rather high voice that projects well (so not shy anime girl). Keep in mind that she's, like, 10.

PRONUNCIATION NOTE: Kadaina is pronounced kuh-die-nah

  • *mocking somebody while trying to coerce another* Well you see, if you were to date potatoes, could you pretty please date my brother. You’re like his only hope!

  • *curious as heck* Sooo, where did you meet her, Kadaina? Is she single? Does she have any dogs? 


  • *straight-up savage here* I doubt it, he is more of a potato than that other dude-
