Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass Fandub
Project Overview
Note: Not all the roles are in yet - I simply wanted to get the major ones included. I'll be adding more frequently, because there's a lot of roles to fill! Next roles I plan on getting in: Mute Notes characters!
Second note: Spoilers ahead!
Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass is an RPG about family, childhood, escapism, and video games.
Hello, everyone! This is basically exactly what it says on the tin - a fandub of the game Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. The game is a lot like Earthbound/Yume Nikki and you can find its Steam page here. As a warning, this game contains some rather disturbing content! The plot is simple: Jimmy travels across the strange world he lives in and encounters many quirky foes, all tying back to a great evil called the Pulsating Mass that wants to destroy everything. He meets interesting allies and foes alike as he travels...
Note: This game is something like 30+ hours of content. There's a lot, so be prepared!
Guidelines:
1. You may audition for multiple roles if you choose - but you'll likely be only casted for one. Keep in mind exceptions are here and there, though!
2. I'd prefer if you had a Discord, so I can keep in touch with you.
3. Have a decent quality microphone, please! I can handle editing, but there's only so much I can edit.
4. Put your heart into it! Make sure to act well, and don't be afraid to do multiple takes if you stumble!
5. Have fun!

Update!
Hey, guys! To those wondering, this is still going, I've just been trying to catch up on college work and some other stuff. I'm gonna start casting people by next audition, as a warning! -
More New Roles!
Hello! I've added three new roles - Ebeezil, The Mad Queen, and Harply. Very minor characters, but the major ones are up already anyway, sooo... I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with! -
Extra Roles #4
As promised, the Legato Knights are up and ready to receive your wonderful auditions! Next up are a couple optional bosses and a minor character - I know one of you has had your eye on Ebeezil, so look forward to that! -
Casting Note
I'd just like to note that I'm not going to be casting anyone until the project deadline anymore, so I can get all the appropriate auditions in. I'll be adding the Legato Knights sometime later today or tomorrow, so watch out for that!
This is super simple - the narrator of the game. They'll have some lines during battle, but most of the battles will be cut out or significantly shortened - most of their lines will come in Jimmy's thoughts on areas, Jimmy's transformations, and a segment that's styled after a visual novel.
For voice specifications, I don't have anything specific in mind - whatever you think a good narrator would sound like. Sufficiently dramatic and pleasant!
(Dramatic) "Skitter preens... isn't he handsome?"
(Serious) "Jimmy hears whispers from hidden places."
(Pleasant) "Jimmy imagines himself in school. He doesn't look like himself today. He looks like a big, green, gross blob. But, he doesn't care. He's happy this way."
Jimmy is the main protagonist of the game. He's actually silent for most of the game, with his only real spoken lines being the pause screen descriptions of the party members, as well as an evil clone of Jimmy showing up (hence the third line).
He should obviously sound like a little kid. He's generally pretty innocent. Y'know, like the usual 8 year old.
(Excited) "Punch is really cool and owns a bunch of motorcycles. I've never ridden on one. Maybe he'll let me!"
(Serious) "I am eight years old. I like video games, coloring, and Mom, Dad, Buck, and Uncle Lars."
(Angry) "What the HELL are you doing here, you stupid BUTT?! Every time I look at you, it really PISSES ME OFF! I HATE everything about you. I HATE your dumb SHIT face. You're a...DAMN FART is what I think!"
"Buck listens to music that hurts my head. Buck works out and can pick me up with one hand."
Buck is Jimmy's rough and tough older brother. He's basically what you'd expect from a big, muscular older brother - he's tough and rude, but loves his family deep down. He's a party member in the first half of the game, but is possessed by the Pulsating Mass soon after and essentially turns evil - until near the end, anyway.
For Buck, he should definitely sound manly. Rough, tough, and ready to go. About what you'd expect from a buff young adult.
(Annoyed) "Alright. I'll go to the stupid beehive to get some stupid honey from some stupid bees. But, you better pull your own weight."
(Concerned) "I don't like this. Not one bit. Whatever killed those guys is still here. Did you hear it running around in the dark? Don't wander too far away from me."
(Increasingly agitated and heartbroken) "Is that all you've got? Come on! Hit me harder! You've got to get stronger! Come on... why can't... why aren't you strong enough?"
"Helga is my mom's name. She is pretty and has a pretty singing voice."
Helga is Jimmy's mother, and is one of the sweetest characters in the game. She's basically your typical doting mother - sweet, overly affectionate, but a good person at heart. She actually stays relatively normal throughout most of the game, and just tends to... get lost here and there.
For Helga, I always imagined her voice to be about middle pitch for a woman in her thirties. She has a singing segment at one point in the game, so if the voice actor has singing talent, that's a bonus - but not a requirement! She should generally sound pretty optimistic and sweet.
(Happy) "Oh! Before I forget, did your father say anything about the new dog house? No? I guess it's a surprise for all of us!"
(Relieved) I wasn't sure if I was going to see you again! I remember being surrounded with this weird green goo, and the next thing I know, I'm being pulled out of a pod by a talking harp!"
(Serious, but loving) "Jimmy, what you did was wrong. If you just would have waited for Christmas, I would have bought him for you, and you never would have felt bad about owning him. But now.. Well, I'm just glad that you're sorry for what you did. I love you, sweetie."
"Andrew is my dad's name. Sometimes he says hard words I don't get."
Andrew is Jimmy's father. He's very intelligent and loves knowledge, but supposedly hasn't been in a fight in his life. He tends to know a lot of big words, so be prepared to look up a lot of word pronunciations (and I'm pretty sure some of the words he uses are made up, so you might have to get creative). He joins the game around two thirds of the way through and stays for the rest of it, and proves to be an invaluable ally.
For Andrew's voice I imagined something a bit high-pitched and nerdy - maybe like a professor of some sort. He should definitely give off an intelligent vibe. He's around middle age like Helga, too. He tends not to show much emotion, so probably a bit stoic as well?
(Pondering) "Hello, Jimmy. Did you know that polyaccharine crystals take several millenia to exasterate? And, who knows how long for one of this size? Yet, this one seems to be supported on this newly-formed cloud bridge."
(Serious) "I am profoundly ashamed right now."
(Mildly excited) "C-Cuddlefish! Is it really you? I've missed you more than meteor showers!"
"Uncle Lars lives with us cause Grandma died. He plays video games with me and owns lots of toys."
Lars is Jimmy's uncle. He's generally very lazy, but a good fellow at heart, and is quite close to his family members... save Andrew. He joins the party at around the halfway point of the game and helps them out before falling in love with a space warrior named Hitomi, and the two go to live on the moon... though he comes back to help defeat the Pulsating Mass.
For Lars, I imagined him to have a pretty deep voice, but something medium pitched could easily work too. He's probably got a bit of a drawl to him, and should definitely sound low energy most of the time.
(Friendly) "Let me know if you run out of snacks, buddy. I'll hook you up."
(Easygoing) "I know I should probably be hanging out with Hitomi, but being a father sure is hard. I'm just taking a break. I kind of want to take it easy, but I've always got time to hang out, Jimbo."
(Resigned) "I wish I could find someone who could love me as much as I loved them, but nobody wants anything to do with me. I don't blame them."
"Jonathon Bear lives in a forest with his animal friends. Jonathon Bear is filled with stuffing and can talk."
Jonathon Bear is a stuffed animal Jimmy owns that joins him for the third area of the game. While Jonathon Bear is friendly and childlike at first, as you'd expect him to be, he's hiding a dark secret: Jimmy stole him when his mother wasn't looking and lied about it, eventually abandoning the stuffed bear out of guilt. The Pulsating Mass eventually possesses Jonathon and fills him with a desire to keep Jimmy. Forever.
Being a children's mascot, Jonathon should sound appropriate - friendly and cheerful. I always imagined him with a high-pitched voice. The trick is, you'll have to make it sound creepy when Jonathon starts going off the deep end.
(Delighted) "I hope we can go on all sorts of fun adventures, Jimmy. You can always count on your old pal, Jonathon!"
(Kinda sad, but perks up) "Everyone's upset. It's just a little blood! We can still have a good time if we just use our imaginations!"
(Creepy) "Jimmy. You'll never love anyone else as much as I love you. We don't need anyone else. It can just be you and me here. Forever."
"Punch is really cool and owns a bunch of motorcycles. I've never ridden on one. Maybe he'll let me!"
The biggest, baddest, coolest, and raddest biker dude around, and the leader of the Petty Thugs. Punch carries himself as very cool and carefree, and he is - he has a disregard for society's rules and follows his own path. And tends to refer to himself in the third person. He's kind of like a typical delinquent. Punch is initially an enemy to Jimmy, but he eventually warms up to him and joins him on his quest.
Punch is a very cool character, and he should definitely sound like it. He should sound like he doesn't really care about anything but the Punch Tanaka way of living. Basically what you'd expect from a cool guy with a pompadour and shades.
(Laid-Back) "Johnny, my man. Remember rule number one: keep your cool. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is... Punch Tanaka."
(Serious) "Let me tell you a little something about Punch Tanaka. Punch Tanaka rides on the free and wild dreams of youth. Punch Tanaka is the tiger caged in the heart of man."
(Authoritative) "Hey, Uncle Kid, don't worry. Just like a wolf mother looks after her pack, so, too, does Punch Tanaka. And, my first order of business as your new boss is to find your family."
"Hitomi is like a girl in a show Uncle Lars watches with me. She's different cause her hair is purple."
Hitomi is basically a walking parody of magical girl shows. She looks human, but is actually a warrior from the moon. She's basically what you would expect from a magical girl protagonist - she's a bit naive, but sweet and well-meaning. She infiltrates Shinryu Academy to battle against the Shadow Warriors, and somehow Jimmy, Lars, and Punch get swept up in this mess. But on the bright side, she and Lars get married.
For Hitomi, I imagined there's a significant difference between her forms. When she's normal, she's a bit meek, but gentle sounding - and when she goes all magical girl, she's more commanding and protagonist-like. I imagined a medium voice pitch for her, but anything is welcome.
(Concerned) "Y-You have to help me, Mr. Principal. I've got a really bad stomach ache. Where's the nurse's office?"
(Whispering) "Pssst! You should be more careful. There are bad people here! You should probably duck out. My name is Hitomi, by the way."
(Serious) "Vile thing! By the light of the moon, you will be vanquished!"
Johnny Knives is one of the top-ranked Petty Thugs. In case you couldn't tell from his name, he really, really likes his knives, to the point where he gets really depressed if they're stolen. He tends to be kind of hot headed and has a lot of respect for Punch. Eventually, he breaks off from the Petty Thugs and rebrands himself as Johnny Katana, because katanas are cooler and harder to steal... even though you can still steal them.
For Johnny Knives, I imagined a medium to high-pitched, energetic voice. He should sound maybe a little crazy, but not too much!
(Hostile) "Know why they call me "Johnny Knives?" I'll give you two guesses. Give up? It's my knives. I carry them with me wherever I go. They're my greatest possessions."
(Mocking) "Here you are. What a stupid little brat. You could be at home playing violent video games, but instead you're about to get your guts cut out."
(Smug) "What's the matter, kid? Surprised to see me? Tetsuya Kawaii may make crappy toys, but they've got a killer eye for security."
Another high-ranking member of the Petty Thugs. Deedee primarily fights using mixed martial arts. She's kind of the voice of reason of the group, but she also has aggression right up there with Johnny Knives despite speaking very deliberately and matter-of-factly. While she's irritated that Jimmy repeatedly defeats her, she eventually learns to accept that's just a goal for her to get stronger and comes back with a vengeance - and chi attacks. She's also a bit nicer.
I imagined Deedee to have a no-nonsense, tough voice - like the typical bad girl. Kinda deep and tomboyish. Not outright commanding, but definitely with a presence to her!
(Blunt) "Listen up, new meat. The first rule of gooning is 'stay out of my tent'."
(Irritated) "Shut up. I've been working out since then, anyway. Whatever. Let's just do the plan."
(Confident) "What, come to gloat? Stuff like that doesn't bother me anymore. If you waste time doing that, you're not gonna get tougher."
Big Enormous is, well, a very big and enormous member of the Petty Thugs. While most view him as nothing but a big brute, he's actually quite a softie deep down and has great respect for his peers. He's also secretly rather self-conscious, though he only starts to overcome that when he's hired as a security guard, rebranding himself with his real name: Big Norman. He also becomes sickeningly positive!
This is one voice that can be kinda tricky because when Big Enormous changes to Big Norman, he loses a lot of weight and I imagined there's a voice shift with it. I always imagined Big Enormous to have a, well, larger-than-life sounding voice, but other specifications are up for interpretation - though there should be a difference in Big Enormous and Big Norman, however slight! Even something as simple as making Big Norman sound a lot happier is fine with me!
(Big Enormous, Serious) "Also, you know, just to set the record straight, we used to call you Johnny Cats because you, like, really loved cats. You had like ten of them."
(Big Enormous, Pondering) "My whole life, I've always been 'the tough guy'. I guess it's easy to be the tough guy when you're as big as me. But, I don't know, I feel like I'm more than that, and nobody ever gets to see the rest of me."
(Big Norman, Happy) "Hey, Jimmy. Remember to use the power of positive thinking. I recommend at least ten positive affirmations in the mirror every morning."
The main villain of the game. The Pulsating Mass takes many, many different forms throughout the game - from a dog, to an evil chancellor, to a principal. It repeatedly plagues Jimmy throughout his adventure, and supposedly can only be stopped via a book called the Secret Knowledge.
The Pulsating Mass is sadistic and evil, and it should have a voice to reflect that. I'm leaving this one up to interpretation, as I can see many different ways for this voice to go - though I imagined it to be generally masculine. For bonus points, you can throw some distortion into there - though that's not required; I'll edit that in if you don't want to! You can make the different forms it takes sound the same, different - whatever works for you!
(Dog, Cold) "Did you like the presents I left you? I wanted very much to give you your own organs. Woof. Too bad there were so many people there. No bother. There will be no escape tonight."
(Chancellor, Smug) "You see, I'm smarter than you'll ever hope to be, Jimmy. Take whatever form you want. I've developed strategies to destroy you regardless."
(Principal, Threatening) "Spend your last days with your family. When I come, you'll know. Your final moments will be a shivering, sweat-soaked nightmare."
Mr. Beaver is a construction worker in Smile. He's very serious, and can sometimes come off as silly due to that.
Not too many voice specifications for him. I imagined he sounds pretty tough and gruff, but also just a little goofy - he's a beaver, after all. He probably usually has the same serious tone of voice no matter what.
(Serious) "Welcome to my house, Jimmy. It's quite a bit larger than it looks like from the outside. I bet it's bigger than you'd ever guess. It's what I'm most proud of."
(Serious) "This is my game room, where I entertain guests. I've never had a guest, though. Far too busy. What? You're my guest? Well, I can't entertain you now. I'm much too busy showing you around."
(Serious) "Welcome back to Mr. Beaver's Ultimate Pit Fighting Championship! Hopefully this time we won't have any unfortunate interruptions."
Mr. Grouse is the person in charge of banking. While he starts off optimistic and all about following your dreams, he eventually becomes corrupted by all of the wealth he obtains. He never truly gets a punishment, even if you choose to battle him - he just takes the financial hit and moves on.
For Mr. Grouse, I imagined him to sound somewhat deep. Maybe just a tad raspy, but that's not a requirement. Any other specifications are open!
(Happy) "Thanks for coming to my little bank, Jimmy. It's not much, but owning and operating a bank has always been my dream. I hope my dream will continue to grow and grow!"
(Thoughtful) "It feels like it's been a long time since I left Smile, but I guess things have just been moving quickly as of late. The Legato branch of the First Bank of Grouse was a big success."
(Serious) "You see, money buys things, Jimmy. You don't just use it to buy your favorite snacks, you know. Money buys property. It buys influence. It buys power. It buys respect. Sometimes, it buys people, too."
Mr. Marvelous is a marvelous frog who's disliked by basically everybody and gives you worthless items. At least he's got spirit...
Being marvelous, I imagined Mr. Marvelous to have a very grandiose and marvelous voice! Probably somewhat high-pitched since he's a frog, but a medium pitch voice could easily work too. Oh, yeah, and try to emphasize all of his "marvelous"es.
(Dramatic) "What a catastrophe! Some angry-looking men have blocked the bridge and there's nothing we can do... is what I would be saying if I weren't so marvelous."
(Happy) "Another marvelous part of my life has gone exactly as planned!"
(Joyful) "Well, if it isn't Jimmy! I've been off on a marvelous journey for some time now, so I thought I'd come back to Smile and visit my old childhood home. Can you believe I used to live here? How far I've come!"
Ms. Robin is the shopkeeper for most of the game. She tends to travel a lot and has little egg-shaped robots sell things for her in other towns, too.
For Ms. Robin, I don't actually have anything specific - lots of voices could work for her. I imagined medium to high pitch for her, and she should generally sound sweet.
(Happy) "Can I get you something, Jimmy?"
(Worried) "Smile used to be a safe place to live. With all these shaking incidents... I just don't know anymore."
(Delighted, slightly confused) "Can you imagine? An entire nation of musical instruments! It's.... kind of loud here, honestly."
Ms. Mole is, well, a mole who lives in Smile. She's a gardener and makes tunnels. She's hopelessly in love with Mr. Beaver.
I imagined Ms. Mole to sound kind of like Julia Child in her voice for whatever reason - kind of a "thick" voice. Whenever it comes to Mr. Beaver, she should sound pretty flustered!
(Nervous, referring to a painting of Mr. Beaver) "Oh, this? Oh, um, it's nothing! Just a little painting I had commissioned--er, I mean, I found it at a yard sale. The colors really spoke to me."
(Thoughtful) "Jimmy, if you were a handsome, perfect, self-sufficient man, what would be the best way to get your attention? You know the type, the meticulous, beavery kind of guy. Maybe I'll just think that over some more."
(Despairing) "This is terrible! Mr. Beaver has disappeared! He's probably begun another construction project, but he's so secretive about this one."
A mouse who mostly stays at her home throughout the game. She's somewhat hostile to Jimmy due to believing he's dangerous and is a little mean, but has a soft side and cares about her fellow mice dearly.
Being a mouse, I imagined Ms. Mouse to have a high-pitched, kinda squeaky voice. This is a general guideline for all the mice. She should probably sound a bit older, and a tad cranky.
(Serious) "That man was causing trouble because of you, Jimmy. He said your name and now you look just like him."
(Exasperated) "Sunny, would that guy have even been here if it weren't for Jimmy?"
(Worried) "Jimmy... before you go... you're a traveler, right? If you happen to see Cordelia in your travels, can you tell her to come home? She... her dinner is getting cold."
Cordelia Mouse is one of Ms. Mouse's daughters. She's very sweet and polite - or so it seems; in reality, she's kind of bored with life and just wants to go on an adventure. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, she's unceremoniously murdered midway through the game by Mr. Cat.
As a mouse, Cordelia would probably have a high-pitched, kinda squeaky voice. I imagined her to be pretty sweet, but her voice drops a bit in pitch when she's showing her "real" self.
(Annoyed) "You're lucky you raised me to be such a sweet little mouse. Here's your apple cinnamon muffin. But it's not coming with any extra love!"
(Happy) "Hi, Mr. Beaver! I baked a muffin for you!"
(Sad) "I... I... hate Smile. It's so boring and stupid. Sometimes I think of Timothy and imagine what kind of exciting things he's seeing. Why can't I be brave like him?"
Timothy Mouse is another one of Mrs. Mouse's children. He starts off a bit timid, but eventually goes on an adventure alongside Jimmy, and surprisingly, stays alive throughout the whole game. You can talk to him in some towns, giving him a little more relevance than the other mice. He has a rocky relationship with his father.
Standard for mice voices - high-pitched and squeaky. For Timothy I imagined his voice is a little deeper than all the other female mice, but still high - kind of like a shounen protagonist.
(Confident) "Says who? Nobody wants you here. You're just a jerk, and I'm not afraid to say it."
(Disbelief) "What? I can't believe you, Sis. That guy was a jerk. And, you know what? You're all being jerks right now, too."
(Excited) "Compared to the world, we're both just little mice. And, if a little mouse like you can go out and see the world, then why can't I?"
Sunny Mouse is yet another one of the mice family members. She's the one that probably gets the least amount of dialogue, but is similar in personality to Cordelia. She's sweet, and kind of a pushover, but is otherwise pretty nice.
Voice specs are the same as Cordelia, pretty much - maybe a bit higher pitched than her, with no serious mode?
(Thoughtful) "Ummmm... I liked Jimmy and I didn't like being shaked."
(Concerned, then whispering) "Jimmy, y-you know you're not welcome here anymore. (Psst... I don't mind. Just don't tell my mom.)"
(Anguished, after Cordelia's death) "I'm not feeling too talkative right now, Jimmy. I hope you understand."
Beatrice Mouse, while probably the least relevant mouse in the game, is around Mrs. Mouse's age, if I had to guess. She acts as the banker for when Mr. Grouse leaves and ends up in his big company. She's very kind and professional, but gets kind of sad as people start to leave her.
Same for the other mouse voices, a bit closer to Mrs. Mouse - I imagined she has a bit of an elderly tone to her, though.
(Cheerful) "I hope you don't mind, but your parents set up an account for you here at the First Bank of Grouse. Banking might not seem fun, but trust me, it's very responsible, and there's nothing more fun than responsibility."
(Thoughtful) "Jimmy, have you seen Cordelia lately? No? Nevermind, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. I should try to remain professional; it's what Mr. Grouse taught me."
(Anguished, after Cordelia's death) "*sniff*... We should... We should just stick to business."
Information Guy is your typical exposition guy, who parrots info to you and tends to ramble. He gets killed multiple times throughout the game, to the point where it's a joke. He's there to help, though, and sometimes pops up in the form of screens. It turns out, however, that Information Guys are actually a species of people that memorize a specific phrase so that they can take people's bananas. Or something. It's weird.
I imagined Information Guy to always sound cheerful, no matter what! Kind of oblivious. Yes, even in his weirder lines (like the third line above).
(Questioning) "Would you like me to repeat that?"
(Cheerful) "Welcome to Information Village. It's me, Information Guy. Of course, there are lots of Information Guys, and I'm just one of them."
(Happy) "The specter of Death follows me wherever I go. I am haunted by memories of Death's icy touch on my shoulder. I know one day I will fall into an abyss so deep I will not be able to claw my way out."
GAMM-E is Jimmy's grandmother, trapped inside a robot body after she died. She's initially an enemy to Jimmy, but warms up to him as he proves to be a good boy and eventually assists with him. It's possible to visit the ship where she's trapped later on, and she states that she intends to keep you here, but you can beat some sense into her... which causes her to shut down with regret.
I always imagined GAMM-E as the typical doting grandma. You know the one. She has a couple regular lines in certain flashbacks, but generally most of her lines are in her robot body, so giving them a little robotic filter wouldn't be so bad!
(Gentle) "Jimmy, I've been meaning to talk to you. The next time you see your mother, can you thank her for taking Lars in? I worry about him so much. He's a delicate child, you know?
(Slightly condescending) "I'm sorry. I guess I'm not programmed to listen to naughty children."
(Damaged, Saddened) "Jimmy, I didn't want to be rebuilt... like this. It's just how things happened. I wish I were back in my old body. Wrinkles and all."
The Queen Bee shows up briefly to send Jimmy off to the Wilted Lands in his quest. When he returns, however, the hive has turned... terrible. Jimmy battles her when she's possessed by the Pulsating Mass, which leads to her death.
The Queen Bee is an extremely minor character, but for the lines she does speak, I imagined her to be pretty gentle and kind. When she's possessed by the Pulsating Mass, I imagined there's some distortion in her voice, and her sweetness is a lot creepier.
(Worried) "Hello, Jimmy. I know you have come far, and I would love to share our honey with you... but, we need your help."
(Confident) "We have watched you grow up over the generations. You have your mother's kindness. I know you will find the strength inside of you to save us from the ruffians and restore Homeflower."
(Possessed, creepy) "I hate you, Jimmy. I hate every drop of rotten blood inside your carcass. I hate every mole and mark creeping up your back."
Roland is a member of the Legato Knights. He's big and bulky, and a bit lazy, but is otherwise a pretty laid-back and easygoing guy. After the Legato Knights disbanded, he made his way to Mute Notes as a bouncer.
For Roland, I imagined he has a pretty deep voice - other than that, no real specifications. Don't sound too serious!
(Serious) "This place is normally pretty low key, but all the weirdos show up when Ella sings. You better be on your best behavior. I'm, you know, a real live knight. Or, I was. I guess I'm just a bouncer now."
(Excited) "What's that? Windsor's getting the knights back together?! Heck yeah, I'm interested! Being in Legato... Those were the best days of my life!"
(Tired) "Phew. Captain Windsor's been putting me through all sorts of drills since I got back. I know I put on a little weight, but lighten up, geez."
LeGrange is a member of the Legato Knights. He's quick-witted and sharp-tongued, and fairly competitive as well. After the Legato Knights disbanded, he went over to a beach and tried to live a quiet life. Until a ship rammed into his house.
For LeGrange, I imagined he has a high-pitched voice - someone you could see clever banter coming from, since that's kind of his thing. It's implied he has a French accent, so maybe that?
(Angry) "My beautiful beach house... destroyed by this repulsive green monstrosity! Captain Fish! You have committed an unforgivable sin! You will be struck down by the elegant swordplay of LeGrange!"
(Confident) "Captain Fish! My blood feud with you will have to wait. First and foremost, I am a Legato Knight!"
(Trying to sound smug) "Oh, come to gloat? Don't bother. My heart wasn't in it. How could I, LeGrange, harm a child? What a dishonorable notion."
Claire is a member of the Legato Knights. She's stoic, serious, and doesn't take any nonsense from anybody, but is a good person (instrument?) at heart. After the Legato Knights disbanded, she battled against Turnbuckle's forces in the third continent.
For Claire, I imagined she has a deep voice - but nothing super deep. She should definitely sound serious!
(Annoyed) "Another visitor to this God-forsaken place? How rare. If you're just traveling through, you're out of luck. We're at a standstill with Turnbuckle's forces."
(Thoughtful) "I dream of a world where the music of Legato can be heard over the hills and across the rivers, a world where everyone is united under one song. That's probably a lame dream, but I think it is a noble one."
(Content, a little less serious) "Harply isn't much of a leader, but I'm proud to call Windsor my commanding officer. It's nice to be home, too."
Coltrane is a member of the Legato Knights. He's pretty serious, but respects those who show strength and is honorable in combat. After the Legato Knights disband, he makes his way to an arena and battles there.
For Coltrane, I imagined he has a pretty serious, mid-pitch (or deep) voice. Nothing super specific here. Maybe a bit of an accent to him, but not required - just make him sound noble!
(Serious, a bit excited) "I've been waiting to face off against you, lad. Today, my blade will sing!"
(Thoughtful) "Captain Windsor is gathering the Legato Knights? I've been a knight without a master for too long. Thanks for telling me, lad."
(Respectful) "You're truly strong, lad. I've lived a good, long while. My sword song is almost over. May yours last forever."
Windsor is the leader of the Legato Knights. He's a bit old, but duty-bound and kind - chivalrous as a knight should be. He's the only Legato Knight who stayed behind in Legato, and has Jimmy gather up the Legato Knights.
For Windsor, he's one of the few characters who's unambiguously with an accent - British/English. I imagined he has a medium-pitched voice, and he should sound pretty wise.
(Serious) "My name is Windsor, Captain of the Legato Knights. The Queen has finally returned after all these years. On my honor as a Legato Knight, I can't let you pass!"
(Solemn) "Do you remember what I did, Harply? What WE did? We're not worthy of protecting her."
(Happy) "I'm afraid I don't know where the Legato Knights went after they disbanded, but, if you see them, make sure to let them know I'm waiting for their triumphant return!"
Ebeezil is a hidden boss in Legato. Little is known about him other than the fact that he's supposedly the king of dreams, and if he wakes up, the apocalypse will happen...
For Ebeezil, I imagined his voice as kind of with a whispery, ghostly quality to it. Generally serene, maybe a bit tired. Other than that, go nuts!
(Soft) "How peculiar. It's already unusual for a dreamer to slip into my realm, but to make it this far? You're dreaming deep, indeed."
(Resigned) "Do you cling so tightly to your own life? What a selfish boy you are, dreamer. I will remove you from my realm, and then I will claim my promised sleep."
The Mad Queen is an optional boss in Legato. She's the spirit of the old queen, who went insane. She's still as... delightful as ever inside her mirror...
For The Mad Queen I imagined her to sound like the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland, since that's what she's based off. She should definitely sound pretty unhinged - don't be afraid to go loose with how horrifying she sounds!
(Musing) "This is the precious boy I've heard so much about... Jimmy, was it? I've been here so long, and my eyes aren't as composed as they used to be. Come closer, please."
(Maniacal) "I see the boy hiding beneath your skin, Jimmy. He's a good boy! He's just waiting to be released. That's it, then. It's settled. We'll just have to shuck that skin. Right. Off."
Harply is a royal harp in Legato. He's extremely minor, but generally seems a bit skittish. Very loyal to Windsor.
For Harply, I imagined his voice to sound high-pitched and nervous - other than that, no real specifications.
(Concerned) "Oh, this is just as well. Ever since the Queen fell from the sky, she's been getting worse and worse. This is just like what happened all those years ago."
(Professional) "The Queen is inside. Please treat her with kindness."
