Hero Wanted — Round 2 Casting Call
Project Overview
This is a second round casting call for Hero Wanted.
Please Note: Once an audition is submitted that fits the role well, auditions may close before the deadline, so please make sure you do not hold off on auditioning.
Hero Wanted is a coming-of-age drama set in the 2040s, nearly forty years after the United States' golden age of costumed heroes came to an end.
The series begins in the fictional Midwestern city of New Langdon, with the introduction of Milo Nerman, a fifteen-year-old intent on making a fresh start alongside his mother after being expelled from his last school. One night, what starts as a late-night visit to a convenience store ends with Milo running into both masked criminals and a mysterious hero, and realizing that this city may not be as quiet as his mother had hoped for their second chance. The peace of New Langdon will be threatened many times over, and Milo will have to overcome the negative perception of being someone with powers if he's going to become the hero he's always wanted to be.
Mixing slice-of-life with a world of heroes and villains—where powers are things of mystery and intrigue—follow the journey of heart-forward teens learning that being a hero doesn't let them escape being a kid.
The series takes place in a retro-future setting, primarily inspired by the "space age" aesthetic of the 1950s and 60s, with complementary elements from the 1970s and 80s. The story itself takes influence from shows like Static Shock, Batman Beyond, and Veronica Mars.
The goal of this project is to release it as an audio drama series, with the possibility of exploring an animatic medium down the road. We have the plotline for the first season settled, the script for the two-part pilot complete, and more scripts will be completed throughout the year.
This casting call is for the specific roles needed now for Part One of the pilot.
Things of note:
The series contains violence, fantasy violence, mature themes, suggestive scenes, brief mentions of suicide, and explicit language. All of this is handled in a way that fits the YA genre. Please do not submit an audition if you are not comfortable with the content stated above.
If any of the roles note a Voice Reference, we are not looking for a vocal match. These references are meant to guide the mannerisms, vocal tone, and delivery we are looking for.
We work closely with our voice actors and welcome their input as we continue developing their characters throughout production.
Our main form of communication is through Discord. We ask that cast and crew join a project Discord Server for communication purposes. If you do not want to use Discord, we will work through email, but we will hold individuals to a higher communication response standard for the purposes of updates.
We do not use AI for writing, and we will not use your voice recordings for AI cloning or training. If you have an AI rider you would like us to consider, you are welcome to provide one for review.
Please note: Some roles may require a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).
Thank you so much for your interest in our project—we look forward to hearing from this great community!

Antonio Help began fighting crime as a teenager, using his intelligence as a young sleuth in Sicily.
After meeting a college exchange student from the United States, Antonio immigrated to her home country, and the two married. They had a daughter, Hera, whom Mr. Help grew very protective of. Mr. Help took a quick interest in the goings-on of his new community, especially the issues troubling it. When Mrs. Help received a job offer to further her cultural anthropology career, the family moved to New Langdon. Antonio put his sleuthing skills to work by helping the police and the community solve small crimes in New Langdon. He eventually went into teaching as a way to keep a closer eye on his daughter as she dealt with the recent loss of her best friend. Whether he realizes it or not, that teaching role would eventually catch the eye of a budding vigilante, giving Antonio another shot at truly fighting back against crime.
Mr. Help is a major recurring character.
Voice Characteristics:
Italian accent (think Stanley Tucci or Tony Shalhoub in Big Night). He has a very parental way of speaking. When speaking with Hera or his wife, there's a genuine care in his voice. With others, he tends to speak in a guiding or academic manner.
WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR A "NEW YORK TOUGH GUY"!
As he is an Italian immigrant, Mr. Help speaks Italian, often with his daughter. Having an actor that can speak phrases in the language is a plus, but not required.

(Mr. Help is offering to pay for the groceries of a teenage boy who contributed his own money to help out another person, and is now short himself) {reassuring, cordial} "That young lady you helped out; she's a friend of my daughter, as well as one of my students, so I'm happy to pay it forward."
(Mr. Help has been arguing with a teenage protégé, who disobeyed him and put himself in danger to save his friend.) {frustrated, dismissive, guilt tripping} "Enough! I have to go home and take care of my daughter, who is very lucky that she doesn't have the death of any more friends on her conscience."
(Mr. Help explains the findings on a piece of evidence to his teenage protégé) {treating it as important information} "The chemical composition seemed to suggest it's a form of knock-out gas, but there were some elements that are common with aromatherapy."
Barrett Bronson's father exposed him to a lot of violence in media as a kid to make sure he turned out to be a "real man." This involved teaching him how to fight from the time Barrett could stand upright, and how to dominate in sports such as football and wrestling. Barrett seems to be a ticking time bomb, always needing to be held in check, but the violent behavior taught to him by his father has resurfaced at times.
- Barrett is a moderate character during the first several episodes of the series. His recurrence is undecided at this stage and may shift to more moderate-to-minor following that.
Voice Characteristics:
There's a hint of menace in Barrett's voice, like he wants you to start a fight with him. He also has an uncomfortable sense of humor. He comes off as extremely confident, but is pretty easily triggered when it comes to remarks and jokes made at his expense.

(In the midst of a fight) {Condescending} "Awww. You gonna cry about it, glitch?"
