Haikyuu Fandub

Project Overview

What is Haikyuu About?

Junior high school student Hinata Shouyou gains a sudden love of volleyball after seeing a national championship match on TV. Although short in height, he becomes determined to follow in the footsteps of the championship's star player, nicknamed the "Little Giant", after seeing his plays. He creates a volleyball club and begins practicing by himself. Eventually, 3 other members join the team by his last year of middle school, pushing Hinata to persuade his two friends who are in different clubs to join just for the tournament. However, they are defeated in their first tournament game after being challenged by the championship favorite team, which includes the so-called "King of the Court" Tobio Kageyama, in the first round. Though Hinata's team suffers a miserable defeat, he vows to eventually surpass Kageyama and defeat him. Fast-forward to high school, Hinata enters Karasuno Highschool with the hopes of joining their volleyball club. Unfortunately for him, the very person he swore to surpass appears before him as one of his new teammates. At first Hinata and Kageyama are unable to work together, causing the team captain to kick them out of the club. The two decide to challenge the elder members of the team to a match, hoping that if they win they will prove they can work together and be allowed to rejoin. The team captain accepts the challenge and working with another member of the team, Hinata and Kageyama win the match and are let back into the club. By combining the genius-like qualities of Kageyama with Hinata's sheer athleticism, the duo creates an invincible brand-new volleyball tactic. Their new combo allows them to get over their differences and creates a strange alliance between the two filled with fun and laughter for them and their teammates. Thus begins the Karasuno boys' volleyball team's journey to the top.

Why Did I Start This?

I love Haikyuu and many others do too which made me sad when I heard that they are probably not going to make a dubbed version which is why I decided to make a fandub!! So this project has been going on since Mid-January of 2016 It originally started on my Tumblr page and I have spread it to some VA communities such as voiceacting.proboards and voiceactingalliance ( When it was still up ) along with other social media such as Instagram and Reddit.

We currently have most of Karasuno cast along with some others.

What am I Looking For?

•Have a GOOD MIC. Please don't record with a toaster.

•Don’t Be Quiet! Make sure your auditions can be actually heard!

•That being said, please do not scream into your mic.

•Little to no background noise (i.e. A/C, the TV, traffic, talking, etc)

•Try to match the energy of the character! You can do this by watching the episode they appear in!

Personality: Ukai's behavior is fairly typical of a man in his 20s. He smokes and drinks and is willing to speak casually about alcohol to minors, using terms like "a first gulp of beer" to explain a volleyball tactic to Karasuno. He is quite competitive, agreeing to coach Karasuno only so he could beat Nekoma in the practice match and then staying on because of challenges he made with Nekomata. Ukai appears lazy and cranky, spending most of his time at work reading a newspaper with his legs on the counter or yelling at people for being too loud. However, he's shown to have strong coaching skills and is a hardworking individual. Ukai chose to change his work schedule to a much earlier time in the morning to make up for the time he takes off to coach Karasuno. It's also been noted that in high school and college, Ukai excelled in mentoring underclassmen and had strong analysis skills of opponents. While at work, Ukai would yell at high school students and remark that he's out of a product without bothering to check, but he does have a kind side as he gave Tanaka, Kageyama, and Hinata free popsicles.

Occupation: Coach, Owner of Sakanoshita Store

Voice: Medium Low; Youthful with Slight Rasp

Voice Reference: Here

  • Alright, listen up...It's only natural for everyone to feel nervous... or hyped, at the opening of the first match.  It's a matter of who breaks out of it faster!SO DON'T YOU DARE LOOK DOWN! Volleyball is a sport where you are ALWAYS, LOOKING UP!

  • I have no complaints about the morale of our team. Seijoh (Say-jo) is vastly better in terms of experience and technique. There's no denying that if they get ahead again, it'll be extremely tough, but if we hold onto everything we've got, the momentum will turn our way.

I need people to Sift through takes picking out best ones, Mixing the tracks together to match lip flaps, Approving audio for quality and editing them to bring them up to standard, and/or Extracting Sound Effects from the Anime to be used in the dub. I've been currently doing all this myself as of now ( and its starting to take its toll )

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Hajime Iwaizumi
open
Unpaid

Iwaizumi is a stubborn but reliable teammate, often filling in Oikawa's spot as a morale booster if needed. He acts supportively to all, including Tobio Kageyama, and calls Oikawa out for his childish antics. He often resorts to violence with Oikawa whenever he teases or provokes him, but this does not change the fact that he cares immensely for him, as shown when he makes an effort to stop Oikawa from either working too hard or losing confidence. Iwaizumi's firm-yet-caring attitude has lead some members of the Aobajōsai team to look up to and respect him.

Voice Type: Mid-Low

  • Guys that girls squeal over piss me off even more.

  • *yelling* Do you think you're fighting by yourself?! You've got to be kidding, you dumbass! If you think how you're doing equals how the team will do, I'll punch you!...There's no one on our team who can beat Ushiwaka one-on-one! However, there are six players on the volleyball court! Even if our opponent's some genius first-year or Ushiwaka, the team with the better six is stronger, you dumbass!

  • *disappointed, on the verge of tears* How can I be the ace when I couldn't even make that?!

Role assigned to: Chase Espy

Personality: Daichi is a very caring and concerned captain who makes sure that everyone is doing okay and always puts the team first. He is also patient and understanding but becomes "really scary" when angry or when his patience gets tested. He is well-respected and also feared by his teammates.

Occupation: Student

Voice: Low to Mid-Low

  • Even if your opponent is so formidable that you definitely don't seem a match for them, if you don't go into it intending to win, you'll never be able to.

  • Even if we're not confident that we'll win, even if others tell us we don't stand a chance, we must never tell ourselves that.

  • 'The poor third-year that was replaced by the genius first year.' I'm sure that's how some people would see Suga, but Suga is Karasuno's other setter.

Voice Actor
Voice Actor
Tooru Oikawa
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: Joe Goffeney

Despite his flirtatious nature (he is quite famous amongst female students, much to Tanaka and Nishinoya's envy) and childishness (as pointed out by his nephew and Iwaizumi), Oikawa is an excellent, well-rounded player and is extremely serious about volleyball. He's known to have a "disgusting personality" amongst both opponents and his own teammates because of his smug attitude. Oikawa also frequently makes cheerful remarks, but follows them up with serious or intimidating afterthoughts. Despite his flirtatious and blasé exterior, Oikawa is extremely intelligent and cunning, to the point of his own teammates stating they wouldn't want to be friends with him because he figures out everyone's weakness (Oikawa indignantly responds by asking why he would do that to his own teammates).

Oikawa holds a grudge against Kageyama, whom he mockingly calls Tobio-chan. This is due to his feelings of inferiority when compared to Kageyama, who has been hailed as a genius setter since their time spent at Kitagawa Daiichi. Kageyama can unintentionally bring out the more childish or rash aspects of Oikawa's personality.

Voice range: Mid-Low, Mid, Mid-High

  • Yoohoo! Long time no see, Tobio-chan.  So nice to see you.  You still doing the King thing?

  • Worthless pride, huh? That's true...Listen up, Ushijima.  I never thought my decision was wrong, and my volleyball hasn't ended at all.  Don't you eve forget my worthless pride.

  • Even if I'm no match for his talent, I have confidence that I can set the best tosses for everyone.  That's why I won't lose as a setter.

Voice Actor
Kuroo Tetsuro
closed
Unpaid
Role assigned to: wungobongova

Kuroo is a third-year student from Nekoma High. He is the Boys' Volleyball Club's captain and a middle blocker, known as the "Scheming Captain". He has a laid-back yet scheming personality, and is considered a "provocation expert." This talent is demonstrated in the way he angers Tsukishima during the Tokyo Expedition Arc. However, he apologized to Daichi about the provocation later on. Around his teammates, he takes on a more leading role and is a reliable, strong captain; this does not mean he eases up on the sly smirks he is constantly seen sporting.

Voice Type: Mid to Mid-Low

  • We're like the blood in our veins. We must flow without stopping. Keep the oxygen moving and your mind working.

  • *insulted* That unsteady shrimp you guys are talking about is the backbone of Nekoma. He's our brain and our heart.

  • Then, isn't it best to attack before being attacked? They do say offense is the best defense, right?
