Gurren Labridged - Narrator Recast

Project Overview

Introduction:

I've been wanting to make a quality abridged series for a long time now, I made some progress with one on One Piece but Toei struck me down right as I was getting started. But I won't let that deter me, I'm determined to make this not only a great abridged in terms of comedy but story too, I want people to look back on these characters as fondly as they do the characters from the original series. I really want this to be something special, and I want YOU to help me! There hasn't been an attempt at a Gurren Lagann Abridged in over 5 years, lets' change that and make this a series worth watching! This casting call in particular is for the recasting of the Narrator.

Plot Synopsis: 

For thousands of years humans have been kept under the surface by a tyrannical ruler known as the Spiral King (It's a pretty nonmenacing name but who's gonna call him out for it? You?) After happening upon a robot named Lagann while digging, Simon and his friends start their quest to defeat the Spiral King and save all of humanity! 


Requirements and Recommendations:


  • Good quality microphone! (No background noise or unclear audio!)


  • Must be 16+ due to some of the more adult-oriented jokes in the abridged 


  • If you do get casted it would be helpful if you'd watch the anime if you haven't already


  • Have fun with it! Go over the top with your performance if you want to. You must be able to get loud and scream if the script asks for it. We’re looking for actors who aren’t afraid to get creative with the lines given.


  • Discord is a requirement since its the easiest way to communicate 


  • Must be reliable when it comes to deadlines, if you cant get your lines in at a date we agreed on let me know in advance so I can plan around that


  • Gurren Lagaan is 26 episodes long, if you're gonna audition make sure you're ready to make a long time commitment to this project

A kind elderly disembodied voice who occasionally chimes in to introduce a character or explain a scenario, sometimes adding a bit of meta humor to what he's saying. Should sound like a kind old soul, like a grandpa you're excited to hear bedtime stories from. The Narrator breaks character often due to the sheer absurdity of the story he has to sell, be sure to sell me on that part of the character with the first line!



 


 

  • [Images of the universe are shown as the narrator begins monologuing before being cut off by an explosion and then comically screaming at how absurd the situation is]

    Space. An infinite, wondrous expanse, filled to the brim with the unknown, teeming with endless possibilities. And in possibility, dear viewer, is where our story beg- JESUS CHRIST, ARE THEY BLOWING UP SPACE? IS NOTHING SACRED!?

  • [The narrator begins to think to himself]

    This would be the perfect time to play an opening or theme song of sorts...oh but what to play? Ah, I got it!

  • [As an epic battle rages on the narrator begins to speak]

    Sometimes dear viewer, there comes a moment in an abridged where what is happening on screen is so fucking epic, making a joke is impossible. Currently we are watching two big ass mechs tear each other limb from limb, do you really want this moment to be ruined by a pop culture reference? No (Light chuckle) No I think not.
