Elite: Dangerous Machinima Pilot Episode
Project Overview
General Plot
If the pilot is deemed successful, the goal would be to expand into a season of 11 more episodes (12 episodes including the pilot). It is desired that the same main actors would be able to stay on for the rest of the season. It would help if those applying can foresee committing the time for such a season, but this is not 100% needed. Obviously if Season 1 is a success, the project may continue beyond that.
MethodologyAfter being cast, the two leading voice actors should be able to meet online over a communications platform (ie. Discord) with the producer to read over the script together. (If you only have a few lines, this may not be necessary, but it may be helpful. The intent is to do this right and give the voice actors a feel for each scene and to play off of the others with whom they are speaking. It may help to get everyone together if possible.) The actors should be able to record their performance individually during these sessions, and submit the raw audio files right away. (Some minor technical assistance can be provided for this.)
No Compensation- "CMDR" is pronounced Commander.
- "Davven" has a short 'a'. It should be like an 'a' in "apple" as opposed to the 'a' in "Raven."

CMDR Davven is 28 years old, but he's a born leader. He's not arrogant nor is he cocky. He relies on solid, logical reasoning, and is therefore a very convincing leader. He has a solid head for tactics and even politics. He knows how to lead naturally and inspire anyone under his command. He has an Elite rating in Combat within the game lore, which is the highest combat rating one can have.
Mars Command Four Six, this is CMDR Davven.
(Talking respectfully to superiors who want him to fly an inferior ship) A Type Nine -- that won't give us a lot of options in combat.
Is there anything that will preclude you from following my orders during this operation?
CMDR Shaxley is 25 years old, but she's already made a name for herself among the few who know her exploits. She's a supporter of Felicia Winters in the lore who is the current Shadow President (ie. Opposition Leader) of the Federation. Shaxley is a strong believer in what she sees as Federation principles and ideals. She advocates diplomacy with the opposition powers, yet, she has a very strong combat history, having killed many enemies, which has given her an Elite rating in Combat in the lore, which is the highest one can have.
- 1. She kills when she believes it's justified.
- 2. She's not psychopathic, nor mechanical..
- 3. She puts aside her emotions but cites her values and ideals.
- 4. She speaks calmly and competently.
- 5. She's extremely professional.
This character is going to be an enigma to figure out, and should be fun.
Diplomacy is a crucial part of the Federation's identity. As long as Winters keeps applying political pressure, President Hudson has to see this as an option.
(formally, over radio) Capital Ship, this is CMDR Shaxley. Requesting special docking clearance, over.
(formally, to her acting superior) If you pardon me, CMDR, you have consistently valued two things: the mission, and human life, particularly those who have served under you. Those are Federation values. Those are Winters' values. I am behind you 100%.
CMDR Ringer is vicious in combat, but verbally quiet. He rarely gets excited or agitated, except when dealing with slavery. He's against slavery and those who run the slave trade. He seems to be a loner with few friends. Only Davven seems to get through to him and understand him. He belongs to the Federation, but his main politics appear to be consisting solely in his opposition to the slavery of the Empire.
Update March 29, 2017: It should be pointed out that despite the cool sounding lines, this character doesn't necessarily need a cool commando voice. He's just a big, silent guy who keeps to himself, doesn't get worked up in combat, and speaks calmly. A bass voice wouldn't hurt, but isn't required.
I'm in combat now.
Only four more to go.
They kidnapped Federation citizens for the slave trade. I'm pursuing the slave ship.
CMDR Bolts is a 21 year old Engineer/Technician. He's extremely smart, technical, and prefers to think through problems until he hits upon a working solution. He does not try to hide his stress in a tight situation, and despite sounding panicked when under the gun, he thinks best when under pressure. He's also not terrible in combat, having managed to secure the Elite: Dangerous rating for combat.
Update March 29th, 2017: This character is more lighthearted than his counterparts but also slightly panicky when under pressure. The first audition line shouldn't be read too seriously. The cadence should be more along the lines of someone explaining a technical trick to a bunch of non-technical friends. He thinks he's downplaying the difficulty of the technical problem he just solved, but it just serves to make him sound incredibly intelligent.
(happily rambling) It's really not that complicated, but the hardware and software to open these babies isn't really official and open to the public, you know what I mean?
(stunned) The telepresence system failed? Failed? Just like that? That's... that's almost impossible. With no damage to the ship?
(really happy to hear her) Shaxley?! Shaxley! Where have you been?
CMDR Raven is mysterious, politically motivated, and obviously has a particular, unknown interest in Shaxley. We don't know anything about him now.
Hudson is out for power, and the only way he can maintain power is through war. He won't care if he has to sacrifice a billion lives -- Federation lives even -- to get his way.
Don't be too sure about that. Hudson has been cleaning house. He's found ways of removing Winters' supporters in the government and selecting very specific yes-men.
(very seriously and pointedly) Don't die, Shaxley. We need you. Winters needs you. The Federation needs you. Just watch your back until we figure out whether Hudson is as crazy as we think he is.
Admiral Carter is 68, tough as nails, and sounds like he could still take on any soldier in a fist fight.
We've selected you two CMDRs out of many candidates for this assignment. I hope you'll work well together, as your records both indicate you should.
One of you will need to command the mission and take final responsibility for the outcome. As we have stated before, we have selected CMDR Davven as the commanding officer for this mission.
(sharply, distinctly, slowly, and unmistakably direct) We are ordering you to consider the great talent that we are placing under your command. Do not under-utilize her, CMDR Davven.
Admiral Jackson is 65, decorated, and can be rather friendly. He's still an admiral, however, so he has the ability to sound tough if needed.
Hello, CMDR Shaxley. No, don't bother saluting.
I hope you've had a moment to enjoy Earth and Mars for a bit before arriving here.
We do have one stipulation, however. You must fly together in the Type Nine until you get 50 light years away from Sol. This will assist us greatly politically and save us from the risk of war.
Admiral Trenton is a studious and analytical military man. He's able to talk with the same calmness and analytical tone no matter what he's discussing.
Update June 21, 2017: This role has been reopened.
Three things have changed. The first is that our timetable has to be accelerated. We have confirmed our initial suspicions. You must meet our contact in 56 hours and 23 minutes.
The threat is entirely real and worse than we thought. His information is vital and it cannot be stressed highly enough that you should act on his information immediately per the prior briefings that you each received separately.
You are authorized to recruit or kill whoever you need to, although obviously we have our Federation principles and guidelines.
Just read the lines as a radio operator. They are supposed to be professionals, however.
Update June 23, 2017: This role has been reopened.
CMDR Shaxley, this is Moon Command Four Three. Go ahead.
Roger, CMDR Shaxley. Your final authorization cleared three minutes ago. You're free to depart. Please adhere to all safety precautions.
Just read the lines as a radio operator. They are supposed to be professionals, however.
CMDR Davven, this is Mars Command Four Six. Go ahead.
Roger, CMDR Davven. Your final authorization has just come down. You're good to go. Please adhere to all safety precautions.
Just read the lines as a radio operator. They are supposed to be professionals, however.
Update May 10, 2017: This role should be read a bit in a radio dispatcher's matter-of-fact voice. This radio operator is tasked with relaying serious information on a day-to-day basis. Mistakes for this operator could be deadly, so lines are to be read in an efficient, clear, and detached manner.
CMDR, please confirm CMDR ID.
Roger that, CMDR. Please be advised that illegal docking or activities on board the capital ship may be met with especially deadly force. Please begin specialized docking at your convenience.
