Dirty Little Secrets (Sims 4 Mini-Series) Mystery/Drama

Project Overview

DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS

Logline: Secrets unfold through the lives of three small-town friends after a mysterious disappearance and a mind-blowing confession.

Synopsis: The story is set in the small town of Velville and follows Florentine Weatherford, Francis Wrigley and Jo Lavin as they deal with their private dramas while searching for answers concerning the disappearance of Katie Jones, an old friend of theirs, and the confession and suicide of Lee Weatherford, Florentine’s father. The trio unravel this convoluted mystery by digging for clues, which leads them to brand new suspects and shocking discoveries, revealing one dirty little secret, but beckoning another.

This series is a mix between Big Little Lies, Sharp Objects and How To Get Away With Murder. The season is four episodes long, each between 20-30 pages. If the reception of the series is good, I am open to writing a second season.

Requirements:

-CLEAR MICROPHONE (I'm not really a fan of white noise; some smartphones have really good microphones)
-USE EMOTION
-BE PUNCTUAL, DEDICATED & COMMITTED (stick to the deadlines, I usually give three weeks, and try to stick around in general, as this might go on for a long time, who knows)
-MUST BE OKAY WITH EXPLICIT/MATURE MATTERS - Francis & Parker specifically
-VERY IMPORTANT! WHENEVER THERE IS A 'SCOFF', A 'GRUNT' OR ANYTHING LIKE THIS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU COUNT THAT AS A LINE AS WELL.

The script is written in a professional script format (i.e. it's not written on Word or anything, I used Final Draft to write it), I hope you're okay with that.

Once the cast is assembled, I would love to have a script readthrough with the whole cast on Discord, so that everyone is aware of their characters' storylines and knows how to prepare for their role.

Last but not least, if you are cast, please do not discuss the script and the story outside of the actors' group, as there are major twists in every episode that lead up to the final revelation. It's a mystery, after all, we can't have people spoil it for others!

Role assigned to: SandrinePriceVA

Age: 20s
Race: Asian-American
Voice Range: Mid-High
Character: Timid, innocent, and tired. Florentine’s always done what her mother and father told her to do. However, she is quite ambitious even if she doesn’t seem like it. She likes to follow through with plans and won’t stop until she reaches her goal. She’s just now getting the courage to be independent.

  • FLO: So... are we going to discuss why I came back?

RUBY: Ah yes, why did you come exactly?

It takes Flo a moment: ‘She’s kidding, right?’

FLO: Mom. (a beat) Dad killed himself.

  • (At this point, the argument has become quite heated.)

FLO: Even after his death, you still hate him! What did he do to you?!

    RUBY: Florentine.

FLO: I don’t WANT to believe he kidnapped Katie, do YOU?!

RUBY: STOP IT, Florentine, if you know what’s good for you.

    A beat.

FLO: Are we REALLY not going to TALK ABOUT IT?!

  • (Flo doesn’t give a crap. She’s decided she won’t let her mom step on her, and she won’t get angry every time her mother angers her. She’s nonchalant.)

RUBY: You don’t talk like that to your mother.

FLO: Maybe if you started acting like one --

RUBY: Florentine! Everything I’ve done is to protect you!

FLO (nonchalant): Who do you repeat that for? Me or you?

Age: late 40s
Race: Asian-American
Voice Range: Mid-High
Character: On the surface, she seems like she married for money and only cares about wealth and looking good for the audience that is her neighborhood. She also seems to be quick to anger, especially when her husband is somehow involved. Dangerously beautiful and beautifully dangerous, she has much depth to her, which is where she hides her love for her daughter, and her regrets.

  • RUBY: So, how are you? You haven’t dropped out of university yet, have you?

    FLO: (sigh) No, not yet.

RUBY: I don’t understand what the problem is - a career in Law will be good for you. There’s nothing wrong with a stable income -- an exceptionally good income -- plus your father has got plenty of lawyer friends outside of Velville, finding you a job will be no challenge whatsoever --

FLO: Mom, just -- let’s not have the same argument again, please.

RUBY: (condescending) As you wish, darling.

  • Ruby SCOFFS.

    RUBY: That woman’s impossible.

FLO: She’s grieving, mom. So should you! Dad’s dead!

RUBY: Enough of that -- stop bringing him up.

    RUBY: NO. WE ARE NOT.

  • RUBY: What are you doing with that whiskey?

    FLO: I’m drinking it.

RUBY: In the middle of the day?

    FLO: (shrug) You do it.

RUBY: Put it down before the neighbors see you.

    Flo takes a sip.

    RUBY (CONT’D): Put it down.

(Already Cast!)

Age: 20s
Race: Latino
Voice Range: Mid-High
Character: When he’s around his closest friends (of which he doesn’t have many) he feels free to be who he is – a firecracker who doesn’t hold his tongue back, slips dark humor jokes and embraces his homosexuality. But around everyone else, especially his Christian mother, he feels like he is in a prison. He can’t escape, he just has to hide himself. He chooses prison over happiness as it is the easier route.

  • Silence. Fran CLICKS WITH HIS TONGUE, he can’t handle the awkwardness.

FRAN: Okay, this is too awkward. (then) Do you think your father actually did it?

JO: (scold) Francis! (then) Don’t listen to him, Florentine.

FRAN: Jo, come on, we’ve known each other for how many years now, you know I don’t mean to be rude. I just want to address the elephant in the room. Well, the car.

  • PARKER: What are you thinking?

FRAN: (lost in his thoughts) Mmm... nothing. (then) How’s the article going?

    PARKER: It’s... going. (...) But I want

    more than that.

FRAN: You got people’s opinions, isn’t that all you need? (then) Or are you a detective now?

  • FRAN: Yeah, I’m not really out yet.

    MAX: (surprised) Oh. Okay.

FRAN: It’s -- uh, complicated, hah.

Fran sees Parker sitting not too far away from their table.

FRAN (CONT’D): (annoyed) Oh, hell no. (to Max) I’ll be back -- just one moment.

Fran walks up to Parker, who’s on his laptop.

Age: 40s
Race: Caucasian
Voice Range: High
Character: She’s an incredibly loving mother, particularly because she’d never been able to have children of her own. She adopted him when he was 3, and she’s been obsessed with him ever since. She treats him like he’s still 5 years old, probably because she appreciates him so much. She’s also a devoted Christian, at least on the surface. She likes to gossip, and always thinks she knows everything about everyone, which is far from the truth. She can’t even see her own son is not who he says he is.

  • SOPHIA: Waaait, let me look at you! (gasp) You look so handsome!

    FRAN: Mom --

SOPHIA: Where are you off to looking so dapper? (excited) It’s not a date is it? Ooooh! Who is she?

FRAN: Just -- someone, alright? Byeee.

    Fran walks out.

    SOPHIA: Get her some flowers!

  • SOPHIA: Why don’t you come to church with me this Sunday? It’ll brighten you up, I promise.

    FRAN: I don’t think so.

SOPHIA: Please? I’ve noticed, ever since you stopped coming, you’ve started to change. You seem sadder, you hold yourself back -- and don’t say that’s not true because I’m your mother and I know everything!

FRAN: I didn’t think mother’s intuition would be a thing with adopted children.

SOPHIA: (smiling) I can see that you’re choosing to sulk sadness over fighting for happiness because it’s easier. But you’ll change your mind.

  • (She's "very Christian" if you catch my drift.)

SOPHIA: It’s enough that we have the Conways spreading their -- their agenda around town. I don’t want you to be around these people. I won’t allow it.

Age: 20s
Race: African-American mixed with Caucasian
Voice Range: Mid
Character: Headstrong and usually right, she is both classy and sassy, but she decides to hold back on the sass most of the time, as “it’s not really lady-like.” She was raised a certain way – keep your chin up at all times, always be better than the rest, and you’ll be just fine. She doesn’t talk about her feelings, her own problems are only hers and nobody else’s. However, she realizes how much her family are controlling her life, and wants to take things in her own hands. She wants to be independent.

  • MATTHEW: People saw you with her. You know what they say about her, right?

JO: A lot of people say a lot of things, Matthew, it’s not that big of a deal.

MATTHEW: But it is. (then) I don’t want you talking to her anymore.

JO: I’ll do what I want.

MATTHEW: The Weatherfords are trouble, Jo. I don’t want our family to suffer because of them.

JO: Won’t you relax? They’re not bad people.

  • Jo SCOFFS.

    JO: You’re ridiculous.

    MATTHEW: I’M ridiculous?

JO: Yes! You’re here trying to CONTROL who I talk to, but when I try to intervene in YOUR life, I should go screw myself!

MATTHEW: When did I say that?!

JO: You don’t need to SAY it, I LIVE with it. ALL day, every day, I feel like you -- you’re suffocating me --

    MATTHEW: That’s YOUR problem, Jo!

  • Jo SIGHS.

JO: What are we going to do?

FRAN: I don’t know. Wait it out?

JO: Wait until what? She shoots herself in the head?

FRAN: (chuckle) Like father like daughter.

Character: I can’t say much about him. He’s quite passive as a person, and is a bit of a pessimist. The world is against him, and that’s just a fact for him. He doesn’t take himself or anyone too seriously, and he doesn’t want any trouble. Or at least he didn’t. After a recent turn of events, he’s turned to drinking as a means to deal with his grief and depression.

  • (Matthew is clearly grieving. He doesn’t want to talk about it, but he feels like he has to say at least something about Katie. He tries to hide his feelings.)

MATTHEW: Katie was... she was wonderful. I just can’t... (trails off) I’m sorry. I can’t.

PARKER: It’s okay, you don’t have to if you don’t want to.

MATTHEW: I’m sorry. I thought I was over her, but...

  • MATTHEW: That’s YOUR problem, Jo! (a beat) My problems aren’t yours. I don’t want them to be.

JO: But you want to control my life.

    MATTHEW: (scoff) No --

JO: YES! Both you and mom -- you keep --

MATTHEW: What’s MOM got to do with this?

  • (Matthew has lost hope. He's tired, he just wants this ordeal to be over.)

JO: Flo’s trying to figure out what happened to her.

    MATTHEW: We already know.

    JO: That’s not true.

MATTHEW: Just -- stop. Stop digging. Stop it. Just stop. Stop denying that Lee didn’t do it.

With his husband constantly away on business trips, Parker wants to feel the thrill he once felt with him. This is why he started a secret sexual relationship with Francis. However, it might be possible that this might turn into something more than just sexual.

  • (Parker is just there to ask questions for his article. But deep down he wants to find out the truth about Katie and Lee. For now, though, he tries to play it cool.)

    Matthew turns to leave.
