D&D Audio Short: Mordenkainen VS Strahd

D&D Audio Short: Mordenkainen VS Strahd

Project Overview

Legendary Mage Mordenkainen has fallen into The Valley of Barovia. A land of dread, where misery and monsters roam, surrounded by an endless, mysterious fog. Accustomed to travelling in worlds both strange and dangerous, the mage plots his escape. But not without consequence. For Lord Strahd catches whispers of his plan, and sees to it that his law of the land is enforced. Personally.

This is a short audio drama piece - roughly 10-20 minutes max.

The audio will be shared on YouTube once completed. I will also be happy to share it with you personally, should you wish to add it to your portfolio / reel.

So if you are looking for a piece to add to your samples, or simply want to have fun voicing one of these iconic D&D characters, I look forward to hearing your audition!

Payment will be made via PayPal once recordings are complete. Discord will be the primary place we communicate, so please include your handle in your audition below.

Please use AABBCC format in your audition. No background noise is essential. Thank you!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqzDbUxdbbQ

Thank you to the wonderful talents of Ken Dillon and Douglas James! And a massive thank you to everyone who auditioned. I hope to make some more audio projects in future, and I do hope you'll consider auditioning again!

Any likes or shares of the Mordenkainen VS Strahd audio are appreciated - the more nerds the merrier!

  • 24 Hours Left!

Just an update to say there is 24 hours left to get your audition in!

Final decisions will not be made until tomorrow night, so now is the opportunity to audition or share this casting call with someone who might fit the part!

Thank you everyone for your auditions so far and for your interest in my project!

  • Payment Update (and thank you!)

Thank you to everyone who has auditioned so far! I am amazed by the amount of talent on display. As a reassurance I will not be shortlisting / casting either role until the deadline has been reached - but from what I have heard so far, it's going to be tricky to choose!

Just a minor update: I have reviewed my script and have slightly increased the payment given for the role of Mordenkainan. This is because the majority of the piece is told through his narration and dialogue - and so, upon reflection, I felt it right to reflect that with the amount paid.

    Thank you again!

The narrator and protagonist, recounting his story to the listener. I imagine him to be a well-spoken, intelligent speaker, who is educated from years of travel and arcane study, and deeply unnerved by his encounter with Strahd. British or American accent preferred.

Dr Strange from Marvel Cinematic and Animated Series.

Dr House from House.

Sherlock Holmes - Benedict Cumberbatch or Robert Downy Jr.

  • (Frustrated) I am trapped here because of my own hubris. I’d thought him just a vampire. But that man - that Devil - is not to be underestimated.

  • (Recounting, then unnerved at the end) I was returning from my excursion to the nearest village, spell components in hand, when I spied a figure standing on the lake shore. Even then...I felt a strange aura from him. He was a shadow against the dark waters. And he was waiting for me.

  • (Confident, out of breath) Intriguing! It seems...this exchange...will be more interesting than I thought!

Main antagonist of the piece. Strahd is amused by this “legendary mage," and throughout the piece regards him as little more than a pest. I picture a warm voice, noble and regal, underlined with a sinister edge. This voice needs a strong presence, one that is dark and imposing, without needing to raise your voice. No cheesy Transylvanian accents please. English or American preferred.

Voice Reference Suggestions:

Dracula from Castlevania.

Ketheric Thorm from Baldur's Gate 3

  • (Curious) So. You are the one who has been skulking through my lands. Asking too many questions.

  • (Matter of fact) I must warn you. Resistance is a fruitless endeavor. I recommend against it.

  • (Laughter, leading to mocking, ending sinister) Hahahaha…I admit. That almost tickled. Almost.
