Chop 2 the Top: The Knight and the Dragon

Project Overview


Stellartoons here! This casting call is part of a cooking themed Original Character Tournament hosted on Twitter and Discord called Chop 2 the Top where artists are paired, compete against each other and ultimately collaborate to tell a story in the established setting. There isn’t a grand prize in the tournament besides being part of a neat community of artists.


The Tournament and roles will take place until July 24, 2022.


The entries I’m working on feature my characters Maribel the Baker Knight and Chanterelle the lizard Shroomancer- as well as a few other original characters from the tournament! It's made in a video format with a style reminiscent of visual novels or RPG video games and inspired by TTRPG shows like Thrilling Intent and Epithet Erased.

  • Chop 2 the Top Update: Video and Round Completed!

    Hey everyone! Just wanted to pop in to give an update on the Chop 2 the Top project! I'm sorry I didn't get to individually contact everyone or give proper feedback- it's been a hectic month and meeting the deadline was tight, especially since the round video ended up being about... 18 minutes?? I need a fat nap or four after this. And on that note, there IS going to be another round (this is a non elimination tourney after all!) so if you're still interested in voicing for the project theres going to be another chance!   • Chop 2 the Top Update

    Hello! First off thank you guys so much for your auditions! There's so many to go through it's going to be a tough decision! I'm going to be taking this weekend to go through them, but I might end up getting back to you guys sometime in the coming week about any official casting (Sorry if I don't get around giving everyone a personal comment or feedback! Busy busy!). I'll need some extra time to get the final script in working order too so hang tight while I get chipping at this beast of a 1st round and thank you so much for your patience!   • New role added!

    Lovely submissions so far! Very excited every time I see one coming! :D Just a quick update: I've added 1 new role for the project now that the character art was completed! Pepperika the guardian of the first floor of the tower and happy excitable ferret! I also added a google doc of information on the project description and some more detailed character profiles for Maribel and Chanterelle now that I'm back on the computer from the holidays. I'll keep you updated as the week comes to a close. I have to get back to the asset making and final script writing so everything stays on schedule for voice recording and editing. Have a lovely day!

Voice

Female Low/deep voice, soft and calm motherly tone


A kind but fierce knight with a heart of gold hailing from the grasslands. Maribel seeks out the Tower of Gobble in pursuit of a cure to a blight that as afflicted her home region.

She's quiet. Very quiet. You may even get the impression that Maribel doesn't talk at all at first. It's hard to get a word out of them, but Maribel isn't distrustful, shy or prideful. She spends her silence observing others carefully and letting her actions speak for themselves. If you spend enough time around her however, you may get a word out, even if its very succinct and to the point.

For the most part however, there is a subtle somberness that follows Maribel and lingers in the silence she carries, like she's holding something inside for a long time.


(NOTE: Her voice will be slightly modified while wearing the helmet, like an echoey reverb.)

    “Ah. I-I’m sorry. Here, let me help you there. Are you alright?”

Male Mid High Pitch, Scholarly, Cartoonishly villainous


A botanist, mushroom druid and occasional cook, Chanterelle is a cheerful character eager to impress and show off his smarts and skills to others. He's a pretty chill guy to be around too, unless you happen to be a big and quiet knight that likes to bake. Then he HATES you.

  • (Smug) “They do say I’m quite the fun guy.~”

A spunky and mysterious figure that lingers around various places of the Tower of Gobble like a hangout, occasionally dropping information and advice to those she stumbles upon.

  • (Nonchalant) “Whoa. Those two are terrible for each other.”

  • (Inviting) “Hey! You want some roasted chanterelles? It’s reeeally good.~”

  • “You can try to get the spices for the dish, but watch out. They’re going to put up a fight.”

Voice

Deep and old voice with a kind gentle tone, like a grampa.



A prideful retired sea captain. Kind, patient and welcoming, he’s fond of the simple things in life like cooking, camping and fishing. Realizing his days grow shorter, he’s  embarked on one last grand adventure towards the tower. He joins with the Baker Knight to face the trials on the first floor


  • “Not to worry. I may be old but I still got a spring in my step. Hohoho!”

  • (Reminiscing) “This reminds me of how I would cook for the old ship crew: huddled up on the deck near a fire, stars in the sky and some stories to pass the time. Those were the days for sure. ”

Pepperika is the first guardian of the Tower of Gobble presiding over the realm of the Pumpkin Spice hills. She's the zestiest and spiciest of the guardians, as easily excitable as a giant happy white ferret, which she is. Her voice would be bright and jovial to match her personality.

  • "New visitors! New friends! I'm so excited I can hardly contain it!"

  • (Serious/Confused) "Leave? Haha... Why in the world would you want to leave?"
