Children's Detective Mystery Game – Voice Casting

Hello!

I'm an independent UK-based creator developing a commercial detective mystery game for children aged 8–12.

The game involves players investigating a fictional mystery using evidence documents, puzzles and recorded witness interviews.

I'm currently looking for voice actors to bring several characters to life through short, natural-sounding recordings.

About the project

This is a small, self-funded project currently in development. The official game title and branding will be revealed closer to release.

There are five roles available: three unpaid roles with very short scripts and two paid roles with slightly longer scripts. Payment details and approximate script lengths are specified for each role.

Recording Requirements

I'm looking for clear audio, natural performances and believable characters. No professional voice acting experience is required.

The recordings should sound like genuine conversations or witness interviews rather than exaggerated cartoon performances. Clear pronunciation and expressive, natural delivery are important, as the game is aimed at children aged 8–12.

Accents

As the game is set in the UK, the majority of characters will have accents commonly heard in the UK and Ireland. Southern English, Northern English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish accents are particularly welcome.

However, I'm also keen to reflect the diversity of accents found in modern Britain. Actors with other natural accents, including American, Australian, South African, Indian, Nigerian, Kenyan and other European accents, are very welcome to audition.

I anticipate casting approximately one or two characters with international accents, depending on the auditions received and suitability for the roles.

Please audition using your natural accent wherever possible. There is no requirement to imitate a British accent.

Recording Equipment

Actors with an XLR microphone and a suitable home recording setup are preferred.

However, high-quality USB microphone recordings will also be considered. The most important requirement is clean, clear audio with minimal background noise, echo or distortion.

All recording will be remote.

Usage rights

Selected performers will be asked to sign a short agreement before recording, covering worldwide, indefinite use of their agreed performances in the commercial game and its associated advertising, without recurring contractual usage fees.

The agreement will also include confidentiality provisions to protect unreleased story details and puzzle solutions.

Any additional recording work outside the agreed script will be discussed separately.

Appropriate performer credits will be offered, and approved extracts may be used in portfolios following release.

AI Usage Policy

All final illustrations are drawn by the developer, and all scripts and written game content are written by the developer.

No AI-generated artwork, writing or voices will be included as finished content in the game. All character voices will be performed by real human voice actors.

Voice recordings will not be used for AI voice cloning, synthetic voice generation or AI model training, nor shared with third parties for these purposes.

Thank you for your interest!

Latest Updates

  • New Role and brought forward deadline

    Hi everyone!

Following a few updates to the script, an additional paid male role is now available! This brings the total number of paid roles to three: two male and one female.

If you've already auditioned, there's no need to do anything further. Please continue auditioning for the available paid roles as normal, and I'll provide an update once the audition period has closed.

    A little note on accents!

I've really enjoyed hearing the different voices and interpretations coming through so far!

If you'd like to experiment with different accents, please feel free to do so! I'd also love to hear your natural accent alongside any others you choose to try, as it's great to get a sense of your voice and the different characters you could bring to life.

Although the game is set in the UK, I'm very open to a variety of accents. British, Australian, American, Spanish, French or anything else — I'd love to hear them all!

Thank you so much to everyone who has taken the time to audition so far. I really appreciate it!

  • I just wish I'd noticed something sooner. Maybe then we could have worked out what was going on.
