Project Overview
Black Rain is a dark, emotional, action-driven animatic series inspired by the presentation style of EPIC: The Musical—specifically in that it is told through animatics rather than full animation.
Black Rain: Origins follows Oliver, a former soldier turned mechanic, living a quiet life with his partner Rein after a brutal war left him with advanced prosthetic limbs. Their peaceful routine is shattered when Rein is killed during a catastrophic gang conflict involving illegal plasma weapons.
Consumed by grief and guilt, Oliver isolates himself until his former comrade Samuel pushes him toward action. Determined to bring Rein justice, Oliver enters the city’s criminal underworld, acquiring powerful black-market upgrades and adopting the vigilante identity “Black Rain.”
As he hunts down those involved, Oliver tracks leads from low-level gang members to a mechanic named Tex, only to discover the attack was part of something far larger. A mysterious organization known as the Syndicate—armed with dangerously advanced plasma technology—emerges as the true threat.
Forced into uneasy alliances with former enemies, Oliver begins his transformation from grieving survivor to relentless vigilante, setting the stage for an all-out confrontation with the Syndicate and the deeper conspiracy behind Rein’s death.
This is a story about loss, love, revenge, and what it means to rebuild yourself—both physically and emotionally.
