Behind The Curtain

Jack Bradley, 28 years old, works in a high pressure financial investment environment full of sharks and fish. Jack's a shark. He's handsome, ambitious, confident, comfortable with people and charming. He doesn't do average. He doesn't accept second best. He has a gorgeous wife who he loves like crazy - but ... she just doesn't excite him in the way that he needs. He has a weakness for pretty girls which leads him to stray as he seeks the excitement he craves in other women  .. one nighters or longer term ..  but he hates himself for doing it.

But then Bex, his wife, gives him an experience he never thought she was capable of and he suddenly sees everything that he has ever wanted almost within his grasp. But is it a case of be careful of what you wished for Jack? Is Jacks desire for always wanting more going to have him end in a place where what comes to pass is just too much even for him?

Bex, 24 years old, is your typical girl next door type who grew up the eldest of three daughters to religious parents.  She wanted all the things a lot of little girls want: a nice husband, a couple of kids, settle down and live a happy ever after. Other than the kids she's got the rest of that now. 

Bex begins our story as a little innocent & naive; not really aware of the things that go on behind closed curtains and certainly not to the extent of which it happens. But then one night, what she thought was a fun and playful chat with her husband Jack, has her hearing something from him that shocks her to the core but which ignites a flame of desire within that she never knew needed lighting. She flings open the curtains and embarks on a journey of sexual exploration which frees her from the shackles of that religious upbringing but which could also end with everything she has crumbling to dust.

Ralph Moore, 42, is a people pleaser. He's always looking to put others first and ensuring that they are well before considering himself. His young wife, Mags, has an insatiable appetite for all that is good and he spends most of his free time giving her everything that she wants. And she wants a lot. She's tireless and demanding in the bedroom. A whirlwind social butterfly. And she never stops spending the money he earns. But he loves her more than anything and so he'll do anything for her - even when it goes against the things he believes in and he has to bring .. 'outside help' .. into the relationship to feed her desires.

Fortunately for Ralph, he's a partner in an Investment Company and so historically has had the means to somewhat satisfy her material wants. But all that might be about to end. The company is in financial trouble. His reckless business partner has scared off some big clients. But that same partner has a solution - a new investor with rumours linking him to organised crime. And Ralph is the guy who deals with clients. Could this client, the one that could save the company lead Ralph, his wife and his friends down a dangerous and deadly path?

Mags Moore, 32,  is sassy, brash and as bold as brass. She's brutally honest; fires from the hip; a part-time alcoholic; recreational drug taker; spendaholic; a thrill seeker and risk taker. Other than that she's almost normal. She married Ralph Moore because " .. he smelt of money the first time I met him" .. and see's a man who she loves in her own way but who she knows will give her everything she wants. She's a tornado to his slight breeze. 

The one thing she does want, more than anything, is to feel alive. An abused childhood has left her full of pain but equally dull inside. She only feels alive the closer she gets to ruin and so she's pushing boundaries all the time. How close can she tread that line where one wrong step and everything fucks up. Like walking on the edge of a cliff while swigging on a bottle wine. That's when she feels truly alive. With her husband courting a potentially dangerous new client at work and her best friend, Bex Bradley, unfurling her wings on a journey of sexual discovery .. Mags is in her element. But what if this time she ends up finally taking that one step too far?

Sophie Taylor is Jack Bradleys Personal Assistant and the woman he's having an affair with. But falling for the wrong type of guy isn't anything new for Sophie. They've either slapped her around. Wanted her just as a pretty accessory to show off to friends or clients. Ended up in jail. Or a childhood bestie who grew up to be gay. She ALWAYS falls for the wrong guy. But she's never fallen as deep as she has for Jack Bradley. He's everything she ever wanted in a guy. Other than him being married to somebody else, that is. 

But this time it's different. This time it's going to work out exactly as she wants it to. If only she can pull the right threads at the right time then Jack and Bex will be done and her a Jack can be together forever. Properly. Like a real couple. But until that time comes - she has to play the 'other woman' which frustrates the hell out of her and she constantly lashes out at him and drives him away. But he always comes back. But it will all be worth it in the end. She just has to be patient. Her time will come. And one way or another. Bex. Will. Be. Gone.

Frank Esposito is 48 years old and is Ralph Moore's partner in an Investment Company. Originating from New York, Frank made big money by making high risk trades on Wall Street. They were the type of trades that would either make him and his clients rich or would see him thrown in jail. Fortunately for Frank it was the former. 

Frank doesn't like rules. Rules are for schmucks and if he can cut corners, he'll cut them. Why spend a hour doing a job when you can do it in 10 minutes and then spend the time saved snorting cocaine off strippers tits while throwing a 100 at another to blow you off. But Frank makes the companys clients skittish. His fast and easy ways doesn't always win him friends. As such - they're taking their money elsewhere and the company is facing financial ruin. It doesn't help that Frank is also skimming cream from the top too.

But a chance meeting with an old friend from New York presents Frank with an opportunity to put everything right. The only problems are that the money might be dirty .. the friend could be a made guy .. and he has to convince his partner that everything will work out just fine. What could go wrong?  

Ideally, he'll have an Italian American New York accent - but if you can't do one, that's fine.

Vinnie Mancai is a guy who expects to get what he wants. He doesn't ask for the things he wants. He just says what he wants and those with any sense give it him. Those without sense usually pay the price when he takes it anyway. Vinnie is a Made Guy within the Fanucci Crime family out in New York. Lately, it's come to his attention that the Feds have him marked down as "influential" and have been looking into his business dealings.

 As such, he's decided to head to the West coast for an extended vacation in the hope that the heat will die down while he's gone. While here - he's hoping to do a little laundry on some of his "business" profits so they are protected if the hammer were to fall. He's already invested some cash in a local businesses by purchasing a stake in the Sticky Fingers porn studio from where he's found himself an aspiring actress girlfriend who is the same age as his daugher back hom in NY. Vinnie speaks with authority. As mentioned, he expects to get what he wants.

Ideally, he'll have an Italian American New York accent. If you can't manage that, don't worry about it if you can still make the character come alive.

Skye Divine (real name : Julia Fredricks), 19 years old, was raised by her grandparents on their farm in the Mid-West after her mother suffered a mental breakdown when Skye was still a baby. Nobody knew who her father was. Growing up she'd spend hours watching the Oldies on TV with her grandma and she'd dream of being another Bette Davis, a Judy Garland or Katherine Heburn. So intent she was to be a movie star she left the farm at 16 and headed to Hollywood. Unfortunately, she ended up doing illegal porn (due to her age) produced by Albanian gangsters. She managed to escape this when she was picked up by a genuine movie agent who promised everything she wanted. He told her : " .. sign here, suck this, and I'll make you a star!". To be fair, he did invest money into her and sent her to Drama school. But it was obvious to anybody who saw her act that she was never going to make it.

To get a return on his money, the agent persuaded her to go back into porn and she signed an initial short contract with the Sticky Fingers porn studio. After doing some scenes within which she impressed, she was signed up on a longer contract. Things really changed for Skye when Vinnie Mancia invested money into the studio, he promised to " .. buy her a new pair of tits", and a beautiful loving relationship began. 

Skye has a fatal naivity to her, she trusts anybody who says the right things, isn't blessed with intelligence, is easily manipulated and has an almost childlike demeanour and wonderment about her.

Denise Esporito is the 40 year old wife of Frank Esporito. She was born just on the outskirts of New York to first generation Italian immigrants. At university she studied economics and business studies and when she left she started her own financial consultancy firm at the age of 25. She was a millionaire in her own right by the time she hit 30. 

It was about this time she met her future husband Frank after the firm he worked for took on her services as an independent consultant to investigate irregular trades that they believed had been made. It didn't take her long to realise that Frank had been up to no good but, instead of reporting what she had uncovered, found that she'd fallen for Frank, been seduced by him and then colluded with him in carrying out other "irregular" dealings he was involved in and helped him cover his tracks. They married two years later and have a son and daughter together.

Ideally, she'll have an Italian American New York accent - but if you can't do one, that's fine.

Hannah Jones is a 22 year old woman who works serving tables in the clubhouse at the local golf course. She earns minimum wage serving rich assholes fresh salmon and whiskey and has to pretend to have an interest in golf. She hates the job. She hates the assholes who feel they can take liberties with a pretty young girl like herself. But she's a single mom and has a kid at home she needs to raise. So she works at the golf club and puts up with the assholes. 

There are one or two benefits to the job, however. Not all of those who go golfing are assholes and Hannah loves talking to them. Also, despite the club being full of assholes, being rich they tend to tip well. So she smiles when they make comments about her and collects the tips with a forced smile. But she's getting to the end of her tether. She's getting close to snapping.

(Although only a minor role, there is a possibility that Hannah could have a more significant role in future chapters)

Gino Saletta, a 28 year old man from upstate New York and Vinnie Mancia's Guy. He drives for Vinnie. He watches Vinnies back. He gets drinks for Vinnie. Sometimes speaks for Vinnie. And fucks people up for Vinnie. He became embroiled with the Fanucci family and Vinnie Mancia after the19 year old Gino had done a couple of years jail time for dealing drugs. When serving he got involved with a few guys - one of whom was part of The Family and doing life for murder. They became buddies and when Gino got released he was visited by an associate of Vinnie with a recomendation of being a stand up guy ringing in his ears.

Vinnie put him to work on small scale jobs to begin with and Gino excelled. A quiet professionalism and a quiet tongue gets you a long way in this kind of work. Vinnie was impressed and so started putting bigger and bigger jobs his way. When Vinnie had to head west he chose Gino to come with him. He had more trusted guys working for him. Maybe even more capable. But Gino was still a bit of an unknown and could maybe continue doing jobs for Vinnie without drawing too much attention.

Gino is a quietly spoken Italian American. His quiet voice adds a little menace to when he tells people he's not too happy with them. As usual, a consistant Italian American New York accent will get a thumbs up but don't worry it won't go against you if you can't as long as you could bring Gino to life in other ways.

Brad Dunne, 20 years old, is a young man who runs his own surf business down at the beach. He makes his own boards and paints them. However, he's not a very good businessman. His boards are great - but he much prefers being out riding waves than making the actual boards and making money from them. As such, his workshop sits dormant most of the time but to make ends meet he works in the back yards of some local households a few hours a week. Sadly, he's not very good at gardening or general handyman work either. In fact, he's not very good at much. He never bothered with school or getting an education as he all ever wanted to do was surf.

Fortunately though for Brad he fits a tight pair of denims real well. Due to the summer heat, he'll often strip down to his shorts while he works in the gardens and, when it gets too hot, you'll find him hosing himself down with water from a garden hose until he's cool enough to go back to work. He gets a lot of job offers from local women who are in desperate need of having their immaculate yards tampered with while their husbands are out working in the city. Remarkably, always naive and oblivious, Brad  actually thinks the demand for his time is for his gardening skills.

Brad is your surfer dude from California. 

Dani Wray is quickly approaching 18 years old and is still at high school and thinks she's one of the popular girls in attendance and part of the "cool" clique. She's a grade A student and a member of the cheerleading team. Everything on the surface appears good. Except. It isn't.

Her parents - Mason and Ginny are just sooooo boring. Sooooo restrictive. And just sooooooo want to hold Dani back. But when she's 18 and a proper grown up, she's going to give them the bird and do whatever the fuck she wants. Also, she's not as popular at school as she thinks. She's a gossip and is constantly bitching behind other girls backs. If two other girls have issues with each other Dani has to step in and make it all about her and how she is somehow the victim. Most of the girls at school think she's a stuck up bitch. Most of the boys, although finding her attractive, think she'll just be too much hard work.

(Although only a minor role, there is a possibility that Dani could have a more significant role in future chapters) 

I see a lot of different Voice Actors needed for various small roles that might have a line here,  or at best, a scene there. It could be anything .. a waitress in a restaurant. A high powered business woman. A prim and proper high school principle. A detective. A vacacous "bimbo". A high school cheerleader. A soccer mom. Grandma. A nosey neighbour. A sales person on a the perfume counter. A nurse or doctor.

Anything really. I'll try and give a role to everybody who auditions here if you miss out on one of the more significant roles above. So, give me something. Anything. Try a few different roles you could offer. Just state what your doing and then give me a typical line from them ...

Example .. "A nurse : Quick. We need to get this man to the ER now! ........... Restaurant Waitress : If you'd like to follow me Miss and I'll take you to your table."

Lucy Watson is a 20 year old female who works as a waitress at a local downtown Italian restaurant. She's somebody who is very idealistic yet naïve. She can flip between be very confident when speaking with customers at work to being quite nervous in social situations - especially around those she finds attractive.

The role of Lucy in Chapter 1 of Behind The Curtain is a small one with just a couple of lines in the very first scene of the chapter and as such isn't a paid role at first. However, her role will grow in future chapters and could even develop into a paid role.

Amanda Derbyshire is a mid-20s American woman who works on the reception at the Valley Golf Club. She is generally pleasant but can be quite abrasive when provoked.

The role of Amanda in Chapter 1 of Behind The Curtain is a small one with just a couple lines over a couple of scenes in the chapter. However, there is a possibility her role could grow in future chapters.

Ami is a early 20s Japanese American woman who works at The Coffee Stop with Bex Bradley. She's excitable in nature and constantly getting wrapped up and involved in the dramas of others. She loves to speculate upon peoples intentions and motivations, certainly where relationships are involved.

Ami has a small recurring role in Behind The Curtain appearing only in 1 scene in Chapter 1 albeit with a number of lines. She will no doubt appear in chapters in the future.

Helen Lloyd is the PA to Ralph Moore at the Valley Investment Firm. She's originally from England and moved out to the west coast of America a number of years back after meeting a man online. Sadly, they've now divorced but Helen chose to stay in her new home.  She has quite a "plummy" and posh high class English accent.

Helen Lloyd is a minor recurring character in Behind The Curtain appearing in one scene (with a number of lines) in Chapter 1. She'll no doubt appear in future chapters as the story progresses.

Hutch is a 35 year old veteran who has fallen on hard times since he was medically discharged. While serving in Afghanistan Hutch's Humvee he was riding with in convoy was caught in an ambush - it was hit with an IED and multiple RPGs and small arms fire. All the occupants of the Humvee were killed except for Hutch who came out of it with barely a scratch. Survivor guilt and the ensuing PTSD has seen Hutch swirl on a downward spiral ever since.

Once home, relationships deteriorated and he turned to drugs to alleviate the darkness he felt day to day. He ended up spending periods of time alternating living on the streets or living in roach pits, engaging in petty crime and street dealing to help pay for his drugs.

Hutch can be charming and welcoming one moment and then unstable and aggressive the next and could therefore be a challenging role for a VA.

He only appears briefly in Chapter 1 of Behind The Curtain hence why for now it's an unpaid role - but he role will grow in future chapters and will probably become a paid role as we go on.

Lisa Bennet is a 25 year old Police Officer with the LAPD. Her career is everything and she loves her job. She's very professional when dealing with members of the public and respectful when dealing with the less desirable. 

She makes a 1 scene appearance in Chapter 1 of Behind The Curtain hence why it isn't a paid role at this stage - but she will be a recurring character in future Chapters with her role growing as the story progresses to a potential paid role. 

Dan is a regular at The Coffee Stop where Bex works part-time. He has an obvious romantic interest in Bex but she's not overly interested. However, Dan it persistent if nothing else. He's cool in temperament and suave in his approach to social situations. 

Dan is only a small role in Chapter 1 but has the potential to develop into a larger role in future chapters hence why it is, for now, an unpaid role.

Linda is part of the furniture at Valley Investments and one of those longest serving employees at the firm. She's an older woman in her 60s, sharp, snappy, forever helpful and love to 'mother' Ralph and Jack.

Linda is a small role in Chapter 1 with only a couple of lines but could develop further in future chapters as a recurring role. If you can do an older woman with a croaky and gravelly voice then bonus points will be awarded!!

Zoey is the youngster in the office at Valley Investments and has only recently joined the company. She's keen to learn and progress her career but for now she has to content herself running around grabbing files and helping out other more experienced colleagues within the company.

Zoey is a small role in Chapter 1 of Behind the Curtain - but like many of the roles, Zoey could be a recurring character in future chapters.
