Batman: Night of the Owls

Project Overview

Hi there! My name is Gavin Gebhardt. I am currently adapting the Scott Synder comic 'Batman: The Court of Owls.' The Court of Owls is a conspiracy that has controlled Gotham for centuries. They are a violent cabal of some of Gotham City's oldest and wealthiest families who use murder and money to wield political influence throughout history. Their bases of operation are hidden in some of the city's oldest buildings. Batman intends to destroy their establishment. It's full of action and fight scenes, while also being a psychological thriller.

I have yet to see a faithful adaptation of the comic book due to its narrative complexity. The first portion required no dialogue so I have the first two minuets of the film shot. Click the Youtube link to view the first minute. This will be a very long stop-motion animated film with some additional CGI shots. I have a composer on standby to curate the score to my liking. The script entails heavy dialogue, complex action sequences. I have written my iteration of the story, of course taking creative liberties and taking influence from the greater Batman mythos but staying true to the narrative. I am opening to paying actors for the role but that will be decided case by case. It would be a great project to be apart of and I hope to gotten your interest!

I am willing to pay for this part. I think the importance of the voice requires that I do so. We all know Batman. But each person can bring their own interpretation of the Batman voice to life. I would work with you very closely to find make sure each line reading is perfect and has impact to the narrative. You have to be able to carry a bravado and charisma while also sounding intimidating. I want an intensity to the part but still being able to speaker softer in Batman voice. When he's drugged I don't need him to sound super rah-rah intensity, tonally low yet vulnerable. There are portions of the dialogue that is muttering and under his breath. I enjoy the softer Batman voice that Pattison does but I implore all of you to send me your own interpretation. I would love for you to join me and play my lead!

  • I just want to hear your perspective for the character. Some lines below work well  as Batman.

"I think this is all coming to an end. I think I'm his last target."

"Why am I here? What've you done!" (Try 'Why am I here?' in a tonally deep but almost muttering, whispering voice.

"Fear is a tool. When that light hits the sky. It’s not just a call. It’s a warning."

  • These work better for Bruce Wayne.

"People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can’t do that as Bruce Wayne."

"It's happening now- Harvey is that hero. He locked up half the city's criminals, and he did it without wearing a mask. Gotham needs a hero with a face."

The main antagonist to Batman. You have to sound convincingly threatening. A great role with a lot of dynamic dialogue to have fun with. I will curate the sound and inflection of the readings right alongside you. I would love a more naturalistic approach. Nothing that sounds overly dramatized, just keep it relaxed and calculating yet frightening. Nothing posh, he is rich and part of a secret society of wealthy but try not to overdo it. I'm open to anything for this character.

  • "Batman, The Court of Owls has sentenced you to die!

"You shall die knowing your corpse will not be returned to the surface. The Court dictates your bones be kept down here. As a monument to a valiant adversary."

"This is the Batman *chuckle*. Gnashing your fangs, beating your little wings."

Harvey Bullock is the Lieutenant to Commissioner James Gordon. A cynical character with a rough around the edges persona. Competent and capable but somewhat apathetic and tired. He's typically got a raspy New York-ish accent but for this just keep it calm. Do whatever feels right but I'd appreciate nothing overly augmented. In my mind he doesn't inflect a lot, after being in Gotham for so long, situations do not phase him. He speaks with only a moderate amount of punch behind his words. It's not lackadaisy but it's not overly enthusiastic. There's a middle ground in there somewhere. I think? For reference, Harvey Bullock in the Gotham TV show. He's a bit more beautified than the comics but if it's needed, look at that.

BUT, those are just my takes on the character. I want to hear your interpretation regardless if it's different than mine.

  • "Whoever did it missed every one of John Doe's major arteries on purpose."

"I don't like it either, but it's been eight days. The Bat isn't coming. Leaving the light on for him is not gonna bring him back."

Commissioner Gordon is a character from DC comics. The bond between Batman and the GCPD. Together they work to protect Gotham from the people that ravage and damage the city. He exudes confidence and wisdom. Poised and calculating. There have been many interpretations of his voice so I'm open to anything.

  • "The signal is not just for him. It's for everyone else in Gotham. When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call, it's a warning. It's to all the scum that think that Gotham's a playground now. And it's for the ones on our side, the ones that are hurting. It's for the whole city. The light stays on."

Honestly I don't have a lot of notes on this character. British butler to Bruce Wayne. I'd love to hear some of your takes on the character. My only direction is to keep it reserved, nothing to boisterous. Thats all lol. I would love your audition!

  • "Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

  • "Endure, Mr. Wayne. Take it. They'll hate you for it, but that's the point of the Batman. He can be the outcast, he can make the choice that no one else can make, the right choice."
