However, when a new serial killer hits the streets targeting GCPD officers, the two must race against the clock to catch this killer as it has become all the more personal.
LEAD ROLE.
“How can you be so cold-hearted? He was my friend. I got drunk with him. We played cards until four in the morning. No matter what he’s become, Harvey was your friend, too.”
“I wasn’t sure you’d come. You’re on you’re own more and more these days.”
“I understand you’re working with a young partner now. I’d like to meet him sometime.”
Once the crusading white knight of Gotham City as its noble District Attorney, Harvey Dent was committed to cleaning up the streets of Gotham. He allied himself with Batman and James Gordon, the three of them swearing to put an end to the corruption in the city. However, during The Long Halloween, Harvey was brutally attacked and left scarred on one side of his face. The scars not only physically affected Harvey but the effects were more than skin deep, it drove him insane. Becoming obsessed with duality, he dawned the name ‘Two-Face’ and took out his enemies, the ones he had been trying to take down within the law, before being stopped by Batman and Gordon and being incarcerated at Arkham Asylum.
When a new serial killer hits the streets, Harvey becomes a prime suspect as Batman and Gordon constantly try to move past the loss of their friend.
LEAD ROLE.
Harvey Dent: “You picked an appropriate night to visit, Bats. We both look ready for a Halloween Party.”
Two-Face: “The longer they suspect Harvey Dent is the hang man, the more complicated things become for us. It has to stop. Now…who is the hangman’s next victim?”
Two-Face: “Don’t kid yourself. The scars are a little more than skin deep.”
The youngest son of the late Carmine ‘The Roman’ Falcone. The Falcone’s served as the largest crime family in Gotham City until Carmine Falcone was murdered by Harvey Dent at the end of The Long Halloween.
Alberto was overlooked by his father and kept out of the family business, being seen as weak. During the Holiday killings of The Long Halloween, Alberto was murdered on New Year’s Eve becoming one of the Holiday victims. However, he returns at the end revealing himself to be Holiday, the serial killer that Batman, Gordon and Dent had been chasing for a whole year. He was brutally beaten by Batman and was due to be sent to the Gas chamber, however due to his connections he was sent to Arkham Asylum for rehabilitation.
In Dark Victory, Alberto is fighting to be released from Arkham with the help of Gotham City’s new district attorney, Janice Porter. He wants a second chance but will he get far when everyone has their eyes on him? He must also adjust to a world without his father and the new structure of the family as his sister, Sofia has taken over as the head and the arrival of his deported older brother, Mario.
SIDE ROLE
“Oh, and, Miss Porter…? For what it’s worth, I am sorry for what I have done.”
“People thought I was dead too, remember? You saw what he wanted you to see.”
“Curious, isn’t it? All the talk about freaks versus gangsters. Us versus them. When we’re so much alike now.”
One of Gotham’s most notorious criminals, The Penguin is a crime lord that gets his namesake for looking like a Penguin. He runs his own gang and associates himself with the other ‘freaks’ in Gotham City such as The Joker, Two-Face, Poison Ivy etc.
He is often at war with the Falcone family over territory.
SIDE CHARACTER
“Waugh. Waugh. Waugh.”
“We have nothing to discuss, sir.”
“No. Cant talk about that!”
A sharp, determined Gotham City police detective with a strong sense of duty. Practical and street-smart, Lopez is caught between the corruption and chaos within the GCPD and the growing threat on Gotham’s streets. Tough under pressure and unafraid to confront dangerous situations, she was handpicked by Chief Clancy O’Hara for a task force and becomes quite close to Gordon, seeing him as a mentor in the force.
MAIN ROLE TOWARDS THE END
“This hasn’t started melting. We’re getting close.”
“You told us, sir. That police chief O’Hara vouched for each of us. But he couldn’t have known about the hang man killings before they happened, since he was the first victim.”
“LIAR! Wilcox was my partner! My friend…”
A dedicated Gotham City detective and member of Gordon’s Special Task Force, King is serious, professional, and committed to bringing the Hangman killer to justice. A determined, no-nonsense cop, he understands the dangers of investigating Gotham’s criminal underworld but refuses to back down. His pursuit of the case ultimately costs him his life, making King’s role brief but consequential—and his death a stark reminder of the danger facing those who challenge Gotham’s criminals.
SIDE ROLE
“Should I?”
“He blames himself, you know. For O’Connor and Gustavson. The only connection they had to the Hang Man murders was that they were protecting him.”
“You think we should’ve brought more people?”
A sharp, articulate newcomer to the Gotham City Police Department, Laureen Wilcox is determined to prove herself among Gordon’s elite task force. Intelligent, composed, and deeply committed to justice, she presents herself as a capable detective with a strong moral compass. But beneath her professional exterior lies a dangerous secret: Wilcox has been secretly feeding information to the Falcone crime family. She is a character who must balance authority, intelligence, and quiet deception—someone whose confidence gradually gives way to the pressure of living a double life. She eventually falls victim to the Hang man killings.
SIDE CHARACTER
“Shoot him, sir! Don’t worry about me!”
“I guess that leaves me, Pratt, sir.”
“Ack! You…! GACK! But…we…”
A seasoned Gotham City police officer and member of Commissioner Gordon’s task force investigating the Hangman murders. O’Connor is practical, observant, and unflappable—a dependable detective who takes his duty seriously despite the increasingly dangerous investigation. His loyalty to the GCPD ultimately puts him in harm’s way. O’Connor becomes one of the Hangman’s victims, making his death a stark reminder to the task force that the killer is targeting members of Gotham’s own police force.
SIDE CHARACTER
“Commish, I thought I saw somethin move.”
“That’s Gilda Dent in the photograph, isn’t it? Your old pal Harvey Dent’s wife?”
A tough, disciplined former Marine recruited by Commissioner Gordon for his Special Task Force. Henry Gustavson is a hard-edged, professional cop who is openly hostile toward Batman but fiercely committed to Gordon and the investigation. He is assigned to investigate the Hangman’s murder of O’Hara, putting him directly on the trail of the killer.
After an attempt is made on Gordon’s life, Gustavson becomes Gordon’s personal bodyguard. His loyalty ultimately costs him his life. Gustavson is found hanging over Gordon’s car in the GCPD parking garage, becoming another victim of the Hangman. His death deeply affects the task force and prompts Gordon to consider pulling them from the investigation.
SIDE ROLE
“Didn’t you once punch Pratt through a brick wall? Broke his ribs?”
“Yes, sir.”
“It’s mace! Cover up!”
A sinister, physically imposing supervillain who Batman encounters during the chaos of Gotham’s criminal underworld. In Dark Victory, Freeze is portrayed as a dangerous and intimidating figure rather than the sympathetic tragic character seen in some later versions. His appearance is brief but memorable, bringing an eerie, almost monstrous quality to the story.
SIDE ROLE
“Have you ever been in love?”
“When you are dealing with me, it has to do with everything. I do not care what your larger plans are. It is only about the money you have promised me.”
“You should not have come this way.”
A veteran Gotham police officer and old friend of Commissioner Gordon, Stan Merkel is now a Watch Commander at the Eleventh Precinct. Warm and familiar with Gordon, he briefly lets his guard down while celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with the Gordons, mentioning that his wife is expecting him home. But Merkel never makes it home. He mysteriously disappears from the bar and is later found dead at the former Dent residence, becoming the Hangman’s sixth victim.
SIDE ROLE
“Jim! Jim Gordon!”
“Gee, Jim, it’s good to see you. Think about you all the time and how well you’ve done for yourself.”
“Wife! I was supposed to be home hours ago, she’s gonna kill me! Give my best to the old gang, Jim! Happy Saint Patty’s day!”
A stern Gotham judge who plays a small but significant role in the Falcone storyline. Harkness presides over Alberto Falcone’s case and ultimately agrees to release him from Arkham into his family’s custody under strict house arrest and electronic monitoring. He is firm, authoritative, and clearly unwilling to be intimidated by the powerful Falcone family, even warning Mario that he will personally intervene if Alberto violates the terms of his release. Later, Harkness is at the courthouse during the escalating Hangman investigation, placing him close to the danger engulfing Gotham’s justice system.
SIDE ROLE
“You understand, Mr. Mario Falcone, that by releasing your brother into your custody…you must take full responsibility for him.”
“The court will take that under advisement. Mr. Alberto Falcone, do you have anything to say in your own behalf?”
“Do you, Harvey Dent, swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?”
A sinister and calculating criminal operating in Gotham. Scarecrow weaponizes fear by creating and distributing “Fear Dolls,” turning seemingly innocent children’s toys into instruments of terror. He is theatrical, unsettling, and completely comfortable exploiting people’s fears for his own purposes. In this adaptation, he usually speaks using nursery rhymes. Batman confronts him during the investigation, and Scarecrow later becomes part of Two-Face’s criminal alliance. A distinctive supporting villain with a creepy, theatrical presence and a dark sense of humor.
SIDE ROLE
“What are little girls made of? Sugar and spice…and all that’s nice.”
“What are little boys made of? Snakes and snails…and puppy dog tails!”
“Pat-a-cake. Pat-a-cake.”
