Project Overview

STORY BLURB

❝Tʜᴇʀᴇ ɪs ɴᴏ ᴡᴀʏ ᴛʜɪs ᴄᴀɴ ᴇɴᴅ ᴡᴇʟʟ...❞
❝Tʜᴇɴ ᴡᴇ'ʟʟ sɪᴍᴘʟʏ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴋᴇᴇᴘ ɪᴛ ғʀᴏᴍ ᴇɴᴅɪɴɢ...❞

Queen Lynn is trapped, both in the palace of Lumina and in her loveless and abusive marriage. Her salvation comes in the form of a diplomatic mission to Ignus, the kingdom of dragons ruled by the enigmatic Danthragnir family. There, she comes to know Azir Danthragnir, the prince of Ignus. The chemistry is undeniable, and their fatal desire sets off a chain of events that will shake the realm to its very core for generations to come.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
This is to be a multi-chapter, full-cast audiobook. If you plan to audition, especially for a major role, be aware that this is a long-term commitment, as I would prefer to keep the same voices for all the characters throughout the course of the project.

This will be an on-going project, with bi-monthly chapter audios posted on Youtube, SoundCloud, and Wattpad. (Wattpad is where I have my following, so that's where my priority is for posting.)

If I have a specific sound in mind for a character's voice, it will be mentioned in their bio. Otherwise, feel free to try whatever you think might fit with the character. If you would like to submit multiple takes with different voices, that's fine. There are several bit parts (nameless roles with only one or two lines) throughout the project that will be cast to main actors who are able to change their voice enough to sound like a different person.

Your microphone must be good quality with no pops or background noise. You must have or be willing to download Discord for communication purposes if you are cast.

Please PM me if you have any questions, would like to know more about a character, or would like to read the first chapter of the book.

Also please note this is a passion project and no money is being made off of it.

As the story progresses and more central characters are introduced, there will be a second round of auditions posted for those roles.

  • CASTING

I've settled on casting for the Narrator and Azir! If you auditioned for either of those roles, were not selected, but would still like to be part of the project, consider applying for the roles of Hadrian and Abaddon, which are still fully open. The casting for Lynn will close tomorrow :) - Dino
  • Deadline

This is just to note that the deadline has been extended for the roles of Agnimetra, Embra, and the two male roles that will be added before the end of the week. Auditions for the Narrator, Azir, and Lynn will still close on the 28th.
  • Additional Roles Incoming!

Hi there! Thank you so much to everyone who has auditioned so far, I'm loving what I'm hearing! We still have A little over a week until auditions for the main three roles (Lynn, Azir, Narrator) close, but this weekend I'll be adding a few supporting roles to the lineup. (2 male, three female) If you've already auditioned for one of the main three, feel free to audition for the supporting roles as well! And if you have friends who you think would like to get involved with this project, please don't hesitate to share this casting call around! - Dino

This book is full-cast for all dialogue, but because its in 3rd person I'd like to have a narrator throughout. If you audition for this role please be sure you'll be able to remain onboard throughout the entire project (until at least the end of May.) I'm looking for a pleasant, easy to listen to, and expressive voice. Gender doesn't matter, I'll cast whoever I think does best with the read.

If you'd like to narrate for this book you must be comfortable with suggestive subject matter. Though not explicit/nsfw, there are scenes of sexual nature throughout the book, and the story has a romance-heavy focus. You also need to be able to take dragon-shifters, fairies, and other fantasy subjects seriously.

  • Lynn remembered, quite vividly, the first time she saw Azir Danthragnir's eyes.

The way they watched her intently, unwavering and curious. The way they shimmered and shifted in color, as if a fire really did blaze within them, vibrant even from the other end of the massive dining table.

Azir stared unabashedly. Lynn, on the other hand, did her best to keep her gaze averted. She ate her meal slowly, her eyes fixed on the floral pattern in the lace tablecloth, all the while aware of the smoldering eyes locked on her.

((This is the opening paragraphs of the novella))

  • Lynn's breath caught in her throat as Azir pulled her close, placing one firm hand on the small of her back to guide her. This close, the smooth silk of his robe disguised nothing. She fought the urge to splay her fingers across the powerful muscles coiled in his arm and looked away, partly to avoid eye contact at this close proximity, and partly to figure out what exactly they should be doing.

Lynn had always heard that dragons were exceptionally warm, due to the unceasing fire that burned through their veins. But actually being held by a dragon was unlike anything she'd imagined.

...Not that she made a habit of imagining such things.

((From near the end of chapter one))

  • The northern side of the mountains were much cooler than Azir would have liked, but cool for a dragon is not the same as cool for a human. As such, he was not at all surprised when the Luminous entourage arrived, rose-emblazoned flags billowing atop their gold-trimmed carriages, and Queen Lynn stepped out onto the rocky path looking as though she was close to fainting. Rivulets of sweat made stripes in her makeup, and her hair had fallen from whatever sort of elegant updo it doubtless occupied at the start of her journey.

And yet somehow, despite all that, she was still stunning.

Azir lounged in his dragon form in the sunniest patch the tall mountain ridge allowed, his black wings fanned out to absorb the heat and his tail swishing idly behind him. His brothers waited in mortal form, dressed in their finest. Hadrian carried a suitcase— though it was only for show; servants trailed behind him with about a dozen more— and Tevvan held a bouquet of flowers to offer the queen. Day lilies. Azir's favorite.

((From chapter two. Though the book is in third person, it's "deep" PoV so each chapter alternates following either Lynn or Azir.))

Lynn, our leading lady, grew up a merchants daughter with a love for painting and flowers. She was thrown into royal life when she caught the eye of King Abaddon, and her family was more than happy to arrange the marriage despite Lynn's hesitance. Now she's the queen, married to a king who does not love her, and looking for small comforts in her art and her adorable little son. She's strong willed and opinionated, but it's a gentle strength, and she can sometimes be viewed as a little too prim and proper. Over the course of the story she comes out of her shell a bit and learns to have fun. (She also gets to experience a positive romantic relationship, so yay for that.)

As far as her voice goes, I imagine a warm alto, but I'm open to any interpretation so long as its not shrill or whiney. Lynn is 26 years old.

If you'd like to play Lynn you must be comfortable playing a romantic lead in occasionally suggestive situations.

  • (Speaking to her four year old son.)  "Jareth, sweetheart, mashed potatoes are for eating. If you so desire to try your hand at painting, I can give you proper lessons."

  • (In response to her husband, who has just slapped her, saying "You had better learn to get that boy under control.") "That boy is your son. Perhaps you could show a little interest in him?"

  • (Dancing with Azir for the first time, he's just said something flirtatious and Lynn is Not Having It. Azir: "Have I said something wrong?") "Yes, and I believe you're aware of it." (Lynn steps away from him and curtseys stiffly) "Thank you very much for the dance, now I would kindly ask that you do not approach me again."

Azir is the youngest of three brothers, and has grown up feeling rather insignificant as a result. His eldest brother is the king, his second brother is an important head of state, and Azir is... well, he's a good babysitter to his royal nieces and nephews (and he's a significant drain on the royal treasury.) He has an air of carefully crafted confidence and charm, and does his best to lighten the mood around his far too serious brothers. Its not until he meets and gets to know Lynn that he really starts to wise up and take his role as prince seriously. (Note, all of the Danthragnir characters are dragon-shifters. So imagine an atla-style fire bender who can also transform into a giant lizard monster at will.)

I have no particular voice in mind for him, just someone who will be able to deliver the wide range of emotion required for the role without sounding overly cheesy, because he really runs the gamut. As I said with Lynn, you need to be willing to be the male romantic lead in some suggestive situations. Azir is 24.

  • (Said to Abaddon, after catching Abaddon's wrist to keep him from hitting Lynn a second time. An undercurrent of warning while trying to remain amicable externally.) "If this is how you treat your queen, I'd hate to see how you treat your allies."

  • (Dancing with Lynn, who has just asked about the potential of an alliance between their nations.) "That remains to be seen. We spoke of an exchange program—a noble for a noble, someone from each kingdom spending four months in the other's court. Perhaps I'll be lucky enough to be chosen for the task." (He's feeling bold now. This next line is low and flirtatious.)  "I would very much enjoy the opportunity to get to know you better."

  • (In conversation with his brother Tevvan, who has just scolded him for teasing Lynn.)

    "I know. I will... behave."

(It's a weak lie and Tevvan can tell. He responds: "You could at least lie with more conviction. I swear you'll be the death of me.")

(light, playful sarcasm.)"That's the goal, of course. How else will I steal your throne?"

Sister-in-law to Azir who becomes a dear friend to Lynn during Lynn's time in Ignus. 27 years old, mother of a toddler and a rambunctious six year old. Agni is very easy going, with a dry sense of humor and a mischievous streak. Not looking for any voice in particular, just looking for fun delivery.

  • (Light, friendly, but not overly peppy) "Call me Agni. This little one is Thalia, and the terror currently sprinting about the room is my Amaranth."

  • (sarcastic) "Yes, yes, I'm sure in frigid Lumina its quite a hit. But here you're going to roast yourself to death."

  • (playful, eager) "Ooooh, are we making fun of my husband now that he's not here? I will say, it may not be as fun without him shooting flames from his ears."

Embra is another sister-in-law of Azir, wife of King Tevvan of Ignus. She is 35, a former university professor, and extremely level-headed. She takes on a very older sister/nurturing role with Lynn during her time in Ignus. I imagine her with a soft but sure voice. She is gentle but definitely not weak.

  • (polite, friendly) "You may call me Embra. Please, sit! For the time you're here, consider yourself a part of our family."

  • (genuine, concerned) "We're so truly sorry. Ignus is isolated—We've never had a human guest before, and your needs completely slipped our mind."

  • (playful) "It was only a friendly jest." (Then she goes into 'protective mother mode') "Why? Who else has mocked you?"

Amaranth begins the story at 6 years old, but by the end she's about 18. I would like to keep the same actress throughout, so I'd like to see that you can convincingly play a child, as well as a teen. Amaranth is playful and a little chaotic. She mellows a bit as she gets older and settles into her role as a princess, but as a child, she's very high-energy and a little bit of a menace.

  • (TEEN, polite but hopeful) "May I go with you to the party? Oh, please say I can? It would be so nice to see Auntie Lynn again!"

  • (CHILD, curious and eager) "Do you think Queen Magdalynn will play with me?" (she gets corrected, told to call the queen Lynn because she hates her full name.) "*in a sing-song voice* Lynn, Lynn, Lynn, Lynn... will you play with her too?"

  • (CHILD) "Chase me!" *Laughter, various squeals of joy that would come from playing*

Dahlia is Queen Lynn's lady-in-waiting in the palace of Lumina. She is a minor role, as she first appears in chapter one but then doesn't return until a dozen or so chapters later, when Lynn returns to Lumina. She is proper and friendly. She is 41 years old.

  • (with a playful sigh) "Are you indoctrinating the children again, Highness?"

  • (discreetly) “His Majesty is looking for you. He doesn’t seem pleased, best go to him quickly. I’ll watch the little prince.”

  • (nervous, scared, stammering.) "I don't... I..." (a deep breath) "What will you do, my queen?"

Hadrian is the middle brother between Azir and King Tevvan. He has very few lines, as he spends the majority of the book away from court. He's very prim and proper, with a bit of a stick up his butt. A smug, irritated energy. Feel free to ham it up. Hadrian is 29.

  • *grumbling complaints under his breath, then an exasperated sigh* "I will speak to Tevvan."

  • (frantic, miserable) "Please brother, reconsider. There's still time to call this whole ridiculous thing off! ....At the very least send me with a scimitar!"

  • (stage whisper, irritated) "That was dreadful! Absolutely miserable! I felt like some creature in a menagerie with the way they all gawked at me."

Lynn's abusive husband, the king of Lumina. He's cold, arrogant, and incredibly xenophobic. He's a pretty minor role at the start, with only a handful of lines in the first chapter. After that he doesn't return until the second half of the book, where he takes on the role of the main antagonist. If you sign on for this role you have to be willing to spend some time waiting for your character to come back. Abaddon is 47.

  • (hissing, voice low, speaking to his son) “If you want to sit at the adult table, then carry yourself as an adult.” (then to his wife, a bit colder:) “That goes for you as well.”

  • “You had better learn to get that boy under control." (Cold and angry) “When I was his age, my father never would have allowed me to behave in such a disgraceful manner!”

  • (covering his irritation with false amicability.) “Yes, the alliance. What say we retire to my study and discuss this matter over drinks?”
