My Hero Academia is an anime that follows the trope of superhumans. In a world where 80% of Heroes and Villains alike have mysterious powers called “Quirks”. However, one boy falls in the remaining 20% where he doesn’t get a quirk and remains quirkless, until his dreams come true. My Hero Academia is owned by Funimation, TOHO Animation, Studio Bones and Kohei Horikoshi.
I’ve been wanting to make an abridged for this anime for quite awhile now and I thought that now is the best time to do it as the newest season is currently being released, there’s a new movie on the horizon and the manga is getting a lot of traction. Plus I’ve got some experience working on abridged-style content so this gave me even more of a reason to do my own. The goal for this abridged is to tell the story of MHA whilst also adding in jokes to it (since it’s an abridged lol)
NOTE: We’re only going to be casting for the Season 1 characters for now, as these are the only characters we need for right now. However, we will cast more each season.
Also, the roles for All-Might, Katsuki Bakugo and Principal Nezu have all been filled, so it’s not listed here as we’re not auditioning them.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Some roles may ask you to sound like a certain VA for a certain character from the dub or sub voices, but you don't HAVE to sound like them. It's just there if you're struggling to come up with a voice for the character. Having your own interpretation for the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches their abridged personality.
Now that’s all cleared up, time for some rules and guidelines!
Audition Rules:
This will be a long term project! So please audition if you know that you’re going to be committed.
You must have good mic quality, with little to no background noise. I will not accept auditions with phone mics or laptop mics. This is to ensure that we have the highest quality possible. Sorry!
You must have a decent acting ability. As this is an abridged, you must be able to have a wide range with your voice.
You must have a Discord. That’s where most of the management will be.

GO BEYOND: PLUS ULTRA!!
The main character of My Hero Academia. Was born Quirkless but later given a quirk by his role model, All-Might. Normally, he is shy, timid, helpful, polite, determined and a little bit of a crybaby (so pretty much like every Shonen male protagonist).
While we’ll still be keeping those same traits that Izuku has, we’ll also be adding more to him for this series. For this abridged, we want to portray him as a bit of a smartass, a little sarcastic and at times, a little cocky, mainly to Bakugo as I want to create some sort of banter between the two.
NOTE: Deku is the main character of the anime and of the abridged so, as such, this role is the most time consuming as he will be in every episode of the series (or most of them). Please audition with that in mind.
Voice type for the character:
Try to sound more like the Japanese VA for Deku with a more sarcastic tone to his voice. (Daiki Yamashita). However, having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches his abridged personality.

One of the fan favourite characters of the series. Ochaco Uraraka is the first UA Student (minus Deku and Bakugo) that we are introduced to. Whilst being described as the “laid back girl” of her class, she is very over the top which can cause her to invade personal space at times, mainly to Deku, she says anything she’s on her mind and is very bubbly but she’s also one of the nicest students of the class.
In this abridged, we want to add more to the fact that is over her the top, by adding the trait of that she is literally overly happy and excited even in the worst moments. Like for example, when the group is severely injured after fighting the hero killer? She’s just overly happy because that’s her and we love her. The only time when she’s embarrassed or not as happy or anything, is either her crush for Deku or when she’s put in serious situations that she would need to focus on.
Voice type for the character:
Try to give her a high-ish voice (not loli like though) with an exaggerated and excited tone to her voice.

Iida is…...a lot to handle. He is the younger brother of the pro hero, Ingenium and is the class representative in Class 1A of UA High School. He is also best friends with Deku.
He’s blunt in his points, extremely loud and incredibly energetic. We want him, as he’s arguably the fastest in his class, to have an insane obsession with Sonic the Hedgehog and we want him to be more like a joke in this abridged.
Voice type for the character:
Give him more of a ridiculous tone for his voice, as we want him to be treated as more of a joke. Also you can try to sound more like Funimation’s VA for Iida. (J Micheal Tatum). However having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches his abridged personality.

Todoroki is the son of the second Pro Hero, Endeavour. In both the original show and here in this abridged, he is cold, unemotional, and is monotone in his responses to his peers. As if he doesn’t care about most things.
An additional purpose we’re going to give Todoroki for this series is that, he has a living PTSD due to his childhood being abusive and abnormally terrible to go through.
We’ll look more into that trope come Season 2 for the abridged series but for now, he’s pretty much undeveloped.

Kirishima is certainly one of the manliest students in Class 1A. In both the original show and the abridged, he’s honest, ambitious, hard going, chivalrous, capable of making friends and honestly? He’s a little patient. I mean you gotta be if you’re friends with Bakugo. So in a way, he’s a nice parallel to Deku. We also want to make him a little bit clueless and at times he doubts himself.
If any of you are watching the newest season for MHA, you’ll know why that’s our direction with him. Though it won’t fully get touched upon until we reach where the anime is at currently, it's nice to have it build up over the course.

Try to give him more of a surfer dude tone to his voice, but don’t go full out on it.

Another one of those fan favourite characters of the series. This frog-like teenager is one of the students in the class that stands out the most. She is rather blunt and straightforward with her points, she is noticeable calm and level headed and is focused in stressful situations.
In this abridged, we want her to be more oblivious to things. What we mean by that is that she kinda has slow responses with things as she kinda spaces it out a lot.
Voice type for the character:
Try to sound more like the Japanese VA for Froppy. (Aoi Yuuki). However having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches her abridged personality.

One of the coolest characters in the class. Fumikage Tokoyami. He is well reserved, serious, wise, valiant and edgy. At times he can be Dark Shadow is his quirk and his use for combat and other things.
In this abridged, we’re mostly just going to make him the same that he is only adding the fact that he is more of the one in the class with common sense than everyone else.
NOTE: DarkShadow and Tokoyami are a joint role. So if you’re cast as Tokoyami, you’ll also be cast as DarkShadow.
Voice type for the character:
Give him a more deadpanned impression for the tone of his voice. As if he’s just bored of everything.

In this abridged, we’re making him more egotistical, much more of a jokester and honestly, he’s a bit of a dick. So practically he’s an average teenage boy.

Try to sound more like Funimation’s VA for Kaminari (Kyle Phillips) However having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches his abridged personality.

This one always has to be the centre of attention, doesn’t he? Yuga is presented as vain, arrogant, thinking he’s the best out of everyone in the entire class, pretending to put on a French accent to add a bit of ‘elegance’ to himself.
For this abridged however, whilst we’ll be using that same description for him, we’ll also be adding in something else. This is merely just an act he’s putting on. I want to showcase that he has insecurities, as it’s been confirmed that he hates his quirk. He thinks that he is cursed with a quirk that he didn’t ask for therefore it creates a sense of low worth to him. That’s the type of personality I want for him, not to make jokes out of him but to develop him more. (But we will still be making jokes, I mean c’mon it’s an abridged)

Try to give him a voice that’s like an American teenager with a high pitched voice trying to pull off a fake French sounding accent

The flashiest student of the class. Mina Ashido just always has to be in the spotlight, right? She is very cheerful, very easygoing, laidback -even more so than Uraraka if I must say-, extremely athletic and is very sociable. Basically, like an average teenaged high school girl.
In this abridged, we want to make her a lot more nosy in people’s interests than she usually is, for example, she’s more into shipping the other students around like Deku and Uraraka for example. And she does so because we’re portraying her as a HUGE romantic. That and we also want to make her a lot more nicer and understanding towards everyone, including Kirishima.
Voice type for character:
Give her a more cheerleader-ish tone to her voice. The happy-go-lucky type student that is always so cheery. That kinda tone for Mina would work best.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have the best character of all MHA right here and his name is: Mineta!!! ….You could sense the sarcasm in my voice, right? Right. This dude is literally the horniest character in the entire show, even more so than the creator himself. He is a pervert. Literally the only thing in this dude’s mind is to look at the bodies of girls and women, rather than wanting to train to become a hero. He is very timid, hypocritical and the most unlikeable person.
Now for how we’ll portray him for this abridged…...hahaha OH BOY do I have an idea for this fool. If you think us making Iida a joke for the abridged was bad enough? Mineta goes BEYOND that. Mineta is THE joke of the abridged. Every opportunity we get, we will literally take the piss out of Mineta. I mean it’s what he gets for being a pervert haha. Think of Krillin from DBZA. That’s sort of how we want to portray Mineta in this but not entirely.
Voice type for character:
Give him a really ridiculous voice. Like his voice is so high that it’s laughable, examples being a noseless Mickey Mouse or if you want a simpler description you can try making him sound like Krillin from DBZA, but having your own interpretation would be fine.

So now we have Shoji and his quirk is...might I say ...handy?? That was a bad joke, I apologise. Shoji is another one of those cool characters in UA. You can say he’s a lot like Tokoyami, makes sense as they’re both friends. He is very friendly, very gentle and one of the more reliable ones in the class.
For this series, we want to make him a whole lot more empathetic, understanding and a lot more chill than he is portrayed to be in the anime. Since we can’t make all of the characters in the show all ridiculous and goofy, lol.

Give him a more calm expression to the tone of his voice.

Then we have Sero, who honestly is one of the more forgettable ones in the class. He is sociable, loud and a show-offy person. He also has a tendency to make fun of those in his class who are doing something stupid or whatnot, kinda like Iida and Bakugo for example.
For the abridged, we want to rewrite him as a nerd. He’s a huge DnD player, a comic book reader and is a huge anime fan. He isn’t really in much of the show so we wanna give him something to make him a little more memorable

Give him a more nasally expression to his voice, to try and make him sound awkward.

It’s time for Ojiro, a guy who’ll whip us back into shape! He is very calm and humble and desires to be a hero for noble reasons. He doesn’t care too much about being the centre of attention and he doesn’t care about his quirk not, quote on quote, being as cool as the others in his class.
For this series, we want to make him have a character trait of a ninja. He’s fast in his speeches, makes random noises and just likes to be on his own world at times.
Voice type for character:
Make him sound like a ninja, basically what I mean by that is try giving him a Japanese sounding accent who speaks at a fast-ish pace but not too fast.

Toru Hagakure is certainly the stealthiest student in the class. So much so, even to the point that she can’t even see herself ...that was sad, wasn't it? Anyways, Hagakure is a cheery, bubbly, playful character that gets manipulated into doing anything and wouldn’t even care that she did.
Honestly, because of how forgettable she is in the show; for this abridged, that’s how we’re going to make her. Forgettable. Like literally everyone in the class, and the teachers of those classes forgets that she’s around and she hates that.

Try to sound like an average teenage girl.

Ah, Rikido Sato, such a sweet guy. His quirk is called Sugar-Rush, which boosts his power after eating a lot of sugar. He is pretty supportive of his classmates and is pretty chill most of the time.
For this abridged, we want to make him a little hot-tempered which causes him to have a huge addiction of sugar meaning that he can’t live without it.
Voice type for character:
Give him a rough aggressive German accent, like he’s over eccentric due to his love for sugar.

This is ...the most forgettable character in the ENTIRE show. Like literally the only few times he is shown on screen, he does ABSOLUTELY nothing. But enough about that, let’s get into who he is and how we’re portraying him. In the show, despite having a pretty unique quirk, he is very shy and timid with a massive phobia of bugs.
How we want to portray him in the abridged is, you may think this is crazy but, we want to turn this guy into a rapper. Like everything he does, he does because it’s for his love of rapping. As he’s quirk is animal based, his “DJ name” if you will is known as DJ Ani (Ani is short for animal)
Voice type for character:
Try to make Koda sound like a rapper. With a little bit of a higher voice, as he’s a teen.

One of the UA students in Class 1A with a VERY cool quirk. She is arguably one of the best characters in the show. In some cases, she is nice and friendly, but whenever she’s annoyed by her friend, Denki Kaminari or any other person, she punishes them with by shocking them with her earphone jack, and in other cases, she seems off as cold and indifferent to the other sociable students.
In this abridged, we want to make her more “goth-like.” By goth-like we don’t mean that she’s all dark and edgy and etc. what we mean by that is, she doesn’t really say much to certain situations, she’s more of an introvert than an extrovert here as she’s afraid to open up to people.
Voice type for character:
Give her a more deadpanned expression to her voice. But not too deep, make it sound natural for a teenage girl.

I’d say Yayarozu is another fan favourite character, for a...a lot of reasons. Momo Yayarozu is the Vice Class Representative for Class 1A in UA. She admires students like Shoto Todoroki, gains a huge friendship with Kyoka Jiro and is unfortunately made a victim of Mineta’s perverted nature. She is very dedicated to a lot of things, generally calm and sensible, can be very honest with her points which generally makes her very blunt and is sometimes sensitive.
In this abridged, however, we want to make her more worrisome if anything. When watching the show, I noticed a trend with her that she tends to worry a lot about other people and just worry in general. This trope will make her more open minded and a little more insecure of herself than portrayed.
Voice type for character:
Try to sound like an average teenage girl voice but with a more worrisome tone to her voice, but try not to go too overboard with it.

This is easily one of the best characters of the entire show. Shota Aizawa is so awesome. He is often stern in his points, he’s seriously reserved around people, he has very little energy and would rather sleep in class but at times, he can realise the stakes of intense situations and can be very protective around the UA students when a villain attacks.
For this abridged, we’re honestly just going to keep him exactly the same as the manga and the anime portrays him, but we’ll be playing around with his backstory rather than his character trait. We want to play around with his relationship with the villain known as Kurogiri. Why do you ask? Well it’s tied to what’s happening in the manga currently, but we obviously won’t be playing around with this from Season 1 but we want it to have some sort of slow buildup from the first time he sees him.

Try to sound more like Funimation’s VA for Aizawa. (Christopher Wehkamp). However having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches his abridged personality.

All Might is one of the League's targets, So we can’t have him here, it’s for your own safety, for better or for worse, it’s what he gets for standing out so much.
Well...it’s either him or Iida that’s the loud mouth of the franchise. Present Mic is the first UA teacher, aside from All-Might, that we are first introduced to. His quirk is something voice related, he is eccentric, even more than Nezu, very energetic and loud. Basically a grown up Iida. And basically for the abridged we’re just going to make him the same but with an added feature of him having no filters so he’d just say anything that goes on his mind.

Make him sound over the top. Like he’s some sort of studio host or something that doesn’t have an inside voice.

So we all got too complacent during peaceful times without realizing it, thinking we had time to prepare. Since we're on the topic of trust, there's something I'd like to say. We can say conclusively now-- There's a traitor among us, isn't there?
Chiyo is the school nurse of UA, judging by her hero name that is. She is very kind and is considerately compassionate to everyone. Basically she’s like everyone’s favourite grandmother.
In this series, we want to make her short tempered as if she’s getting tired of healing the students all the time due to their foolish nature.

Try to sound like an impatient elderly woman.

As it says in her title, Inko Midoriya is the mother of Izuku Midoryia. She is basically like every generic anime mother to the male protagonist. She is very nice, very overprotective, and she wants nothing more for her son, than for him to live his lifelong dream of being a hero. When she had found out from an X-ray scan that her son was Quirkless, she was utterly devastated and felt like she was responsible for it which ultimately made her feel guilty.
In the abridged, however? Well, she’s not really in the show much but in the brief moments of when she is on screen, she’s overprotective and constantly worries for her son and has been ever since he got a quirk. So we’re basically making her the same

Try to sound like a middle aged woman with a gentle, sweet, motherly tone to her voice.

Yes, about that..I thought about it and I'm against it. Izuku didn’t have a quirk and before it had appeared, he admired you so much since he was little. But since his Quirk miraculously appeared...and ever since Izuku had entered UA...his bones just keep on breaking through bloody battles. I hate to say it, but it would’ve been better if Izuku had just stayed Quirkless, he would’ve been much happier….and out of harm’s way.
One of the Pro Heroes we are introduced to in the beginning of the show. Pro Hero no.7, Kamui Woods. He is very serious and focused on saving people and on what’s right as a hero.
For the abridged, we’re going to be keeping his traits but making him sound like a whiny kid when someone steals the spotlight from him.
Voice type for character:
Try giving him a more serious and focused tone to his voice but when his spotlight is taken, make him sound like a whiny spoilt kid.

Death Arms is another Pro Hero that gets introduced in the beginning. He is pretty serious but seriously hates it when people does something stupid calls them idiots. Pretty much the same how we’re going to keep him here.
Voice type for character:
Try to sound more like Funimation’s VA for Death Arms. (Chris George). However having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches his abridged personality.

Another one of the Pro Heros that were introduced in the beginning, but this one is certainly the most memorable out of the bunch, for a lot of different reasons. Mt. Lady is a hero who seems to enjoy her time in the spotlight. She is incredibly vain, incredibly shameless, is very lazy and uses her sexuality to get what she wants. However, despite all this, she is not a bad hero. She uses her quirk responsibly when she’s in the right place and uses it at the right time.
In this abridged, however, we want to portray her as more of a diva and a little clumsy. Her being a diva is pretty much self explanatory but with her being clumsy is due to the fact that her quirk can be dangerous and we want to play with that for some dark humour. With a quirk like Gigantification, it can certainly be very reckless.

Try to sound like someone who only cares about themselves, so basically make her sound like a diva.

Tomura Shigaraki is the main villain of MHA. He is basically what Deku would've been like if he was a villain by being a successor to a well known villain, called All For One. He has a sadistically malevolent and twisted personality. He doesn't agree with the world and the societies of a hero causing him to grow a strong hate for All-Might and all of the heroes due to him not being saved by one when he was vulnerable child that needed help.
In this abridged, we still want to keep his original traits, as he's a villain and he needs them, but we also want to touch upon something with him. We want to write him as a man who is having mental health issues, not to make fun of the issues no, but to develop his character by using the trauma of his tortured past as a recurring theme for him struggling with it as he still has his father's hand on his face as a sign of regretting what had happened with his family and him struggling to move on. We want to play with that as the series goes on.

Try to sound more like the Japanese VA for Shigaraki (Kōki Uchiyama). However having your own interpretation of the character is absolutely fine as long as it matches his abridged personality.

Try to make him sound like the Joker from the Batman series (Mark Himil/Troy Baker)

Kurogiri is like the second main villain in the season and plays a huge role in the show as a whole. He is very polite and well mannered, even for a villain, he speaks very formally to everyone. He is loyal to his leader and would do what they say.
In the abridged, we wanna make him a little more...artificial. Since something about him isn't very humanlike. What we mean by artificial is that they don't really have much of a personality, or any really, and he just basically listens to what people ask him to do.
Voice types for character:
Try to give him more of a deep, emotionless tone to his voice. Add a robotic tone to his voice but not too much.
