Project Overview

Vindictus Part Five - The Faction
by Louella Richardson and Neil Shearer

Synopsis

Decades after the death of Roj Blake, the Federation uncovers Orac on the outlaw world of Gauda Prime, the supercomputer’s desperate distress calls bring together a group of disparate outcasts. The band of misfits seize a familiar alien warship they name the Vindictus and rally under Lou Blake, a bold but untested leader with strong ties to the past.

Guided by computer genius Zac Ensor, the crew attempts to retrieve a cloaking device from his grandfather’s base on Aristo. But when mercenary Nico Ilex beats them to it, the laboratory collapses and the savage Phibians close in, survival becomes their only victory.

The crew now face a double jeopardy. Not only are they hunted by the Federation but also stalked by a shadowy cabal known as the Faction. Blake and her fractured crew must choose to either chase Ilex or confront a new, unknown threat that could rewrite the galaxy’s future.

High stakes and hidden agendas dominate as the rebels continue their fragile fight for freedom.

A long-serving officer in the Federation, Sobek has defected to the Faction.  Scarred and jaded, his career has been one of duty and danger.  He's in his mid-forties, fit and disciplined.  A soldier through and through but with a renewed purpose.

  • 'Operative Cerberus, I was instructed by the Executive to rendezvous with you and ensure our friend Ilex delivers what we need. He is to pay dearly for his insubordination.' [Informative, businesslike but passionate]

  • 'Why?’ [Thoughtful] - [then suddenly realising] ‘He must be disabled in some way; he wouldn’t just sit there if he could escape without being seen. Ilex may be arrogant, but he is not stupid!'

  • [Seething] ‘As both the Anubis and the Hecate’s weaponry systems are compromised and we do not have any indication as to where Ilex could be, I suggest that for now it would be prudent to withdraw. Ilex has escaped for the time being, but he will reveal himself again and when he does, he will be dealt with accordingly.’
