Under New Management

Project Overview

Vance Callahan is a broke, unmotivated man in his twenties. His father, a filthy rich entrepreneur, sends him off to manage a run-down apartment complex under a company that he owns, giving him a year to figure things out before he gives up on him for good. With the help of some unlikely friends, Vance navigates life in the city and attempts to change his ways.

-------------------------------------

hi everybody! i'm bash, and here i've got my animated show idea! it's very similar to a 2010 sitcom feel, and it's very chaotic and fun - mostly centered around character interactions and development. hopefully animated in a more modern realistic style but I don't have much experience with animation so i'm open to tons of different styles! right now the main thing is the voice actors for the characters, I'd love to see you all audition! depending on how many we get I will likely do callbacks or readthroughs with other candidates in the future, but just be on the lookout! thanks so much and happy auditioning!

A deadbeat, unmotivated asshole who’s the owner of the apartment complex. He’s sarcastic and cruel, but most of it is purely masking deeper insecurity about not being good enough for anything. He never wanted to do anything in his childhood, but despite his father’s richness, he always tried to motivate Vance to make a living for himself. However, Vance only became more arrogant and resentful, leading to this outcome.

  • "Wow, another brilliant idea. Did you come up with that all by yourself or did your last two brain cells finally rub together?"

  • "Managing this shithole? Please. I wasn’t born to collect rent and fix toilets. That’s what losers do."

  • No matter what I do, it’s never enough for him. I could run this place perfectly and he’d still look at me like I’m garbage."

A neurotic, anxious, control-freak guy in his young twenties. A failed game developer, he’s forced to find residency in Vance’s apartments while looking for work. Growing up, Grant was incredibly smart and talented - he just didn’t develop many social skills along with his intellect. He can be very anxious and stubborn, but he shows moments of care and compassion.

  • "Okay, okay, I can already think of like a million things that could go wrong right now and I’m only prepared for half of them. This is bad. This is really bad."

  • "You blew a goddamn hole in the box! Vance is gonna kill me! Kill us! Look at this! How could we possibly justify this to him?"

  • I’m telling you, I’m right about this. You can ignore me if you want, but don’t come crying to me when it blows up in our faces."

Vance’s cheerful, airheaded little brother. He’s a big golden retriever type of guy - very eager, energetic, and a go-getter type of person. He was cherished by his father growing up, being the ā€œgolden boyā€ to Vance’s ā€œfailureā€. However, it didn’t cause him to grow up cruel - he genuinely admires and respects his older brother, albeit Vance’s dislike of him. He’s not very intelligent, and sometimes does pretty stupid things. But despite all that, he’s got a heart of gold and is loyal to his friends. He doesn’t really know what he wants to do with his life, and was sent to live with Vance since their dad owns the company - meaning he wouldn’t have to pay rent while he gets on his feet.

  • "Uh… hang on. It’s asking for my password. What was it again? I swear I just used it this morning…maybe it’s my birthday? Nope. My name? No. The dog we had when I was little? …Why isn’t it working?! I changed it last week ā€˜cause it said it was too easy and now I don’t know what I picked!"

  • "Wait… I wasn’t supposed to mess with that? It looked super cool though, like it was asking me to check it out! Heh… my bad, I didn’t think it would do that."

  • "I don’t care what anyone else says about you, Vance. You’re my big brother and I believe in you. I’ve got your back no matter what happens, okay?"

Chloe

Similar to Vance, Chloe is sarcastic and insincere - but she isn’t cruel like Vance is. Despite her standoffish personality, she is nice and empathetic to her friends. Despite that, she’s very firm in her beliefs and confident in herself, not afraid to fight for what she thinks is right. And similar to Grant, she also grew up wildly intelligent - but she more or less resented that fact, as she realized how stupid everyone else around her is in comparison. This caused her to strive away from the academic side of things, and she thinks she’s pretty much better than everyone else. However, she found solace in the arts, working as a tattoo artist and bartender. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make a ton of money, which is how she ended up in Vance’s apartment complex.

  • "Oh please. If brains were money, the rest of you would be filing for bankruptcy right now. It’s actually kind of impressive how wrong you can all be at the same time."

  • "I don’t care if it’s unpopular or if you all gang up on me—I know I’m right about this. And I’ll happily stand here and argue with every single one of you until you see it too."

  • "Vance, this is pathetic. You're really going to buy this just because you're scared your daddy is gonna punish you? You're a grown ass man, you could at least act like one."

Roxie

Roxie grew up in a not very financially stable household, constantly on the move from one town to the next since both of her parents were dirt poor and not responsible with their money. However, instead of taking this the hard way, she learned early on that the game of life wasn’t meant for her, and learned to thrive on the chaos instead of living in fear of it. After she turned eighteen, she moved to the city, working lots of odd jobs and crashing on couches. It might not have been the most glamorous, but to her she’s living the best life. And she discovers early on that she had a way with people, and often tried to manipulate them to get what she wanted from life. She meets Vance one day begging him for a room for low rent (since she’s still pretty poor), promising that she’ll do all of the grunt work so he won’t have to. Vance normally wouldn’t have said yes, but she knew exactly how to feed his fragile ego to make him do what she wanted. Besides, Vance didn’t want to do any of that managerial stuff anyways. However, she has yet to do anything that she promised, always coming up with excuses and running off. She constantly creates chaos and fucks with people like Vance and Grant because she thrives on chaos. Basically a little shit.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • "Oh come on, where’s the fun in doing things the normal way? A little chaos never hurt anybody… well, okay it might hurt a little, but that’s the best part!"

  • "Vance, you’re obviously too cool and smart for all this lame manager crap. Just let me stir things up a bit — I mean, handle everything for you. Trust me, it’ll be fun!"

  • "Okay okay, I know I said I’d do all the grunt work, but things got super chaotic and I got distracted! It’s not my fault everything went sideways… I’ll totally get to it later though, pinky promise!"

Mia is a peppy, bubbly girl who, like Vance, grew up filthy rich. However, her daddy quite literally bought everything for her, and she grew up accustomed to luxury and wealth. But when she turns 21, she realizes that she wants to become independent and make a living for herself, not live in her father’s shadow anymore. She picks Vance’s apartment as one that seems ā€œnormalā€ and for ā€œpoor peopleā€. Fortunately, she’s a huge socialite and is very friendly despite having to accustom to ā€œnormalā€ life. She doesn’t know many social norms for… well, people who aren’t wealthy. But she’s always eager to learn, and she tries to make a living for herself. She can act accidentally privileged and tries to be like others, but she really just wants to be a normal girl.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • "Oh my gosh, you guys are all so real and fun! I just love this energy. Back home everyone was so stiff and formal, but this? This is way better. Group hug?"

  • "Wait… you mean people actually carry their own groceries and don’t have someone do it for them? That’s so charming! Okay, teach me how this works — I really want to be normal like you guys!"

  • "I know I’m probably doing this whole ā€˜regular life’ thing wrong, but I’m trying so hard! You’re all just so nice and I want to be part of it. What do normal friends do when they hang out? Tell me everything!"

This is likely going to be an animated show in a fairly modern or realistic style - I don't expect crazy good quality but if this catches your eye send a quick demo of an animation you got!
