Project Overview

My Discord if you need it: thencameyou3

You may message me if you have questions. I'll be happy to help. 😊

READ BEFORE AUDITIONING!

I may come back an edit this and fill out the roles more or add more roles during the time the project is open.

I'm stating clearly that this is a casual, organic, scene-by-scene casting. What does that mean?

Animatics are casual, short (~1 minute), and made as inspiration strikes. This is not a corporate production line, and I do not have a hard multi-month plan. I am an animation student. I have college too. Thus, do not expect a strict schedule either. I do not have a rigid episode structure, even though I am currently planning out my episodes and scenes to lock in and get serious in Google Sheets. I am learning the craft of being a director.

Bottom line: If YOU are selected, the collaboration will look like this:

  • You will not have to be in high stress, waiting for me and can work on other projects.

  • Every once in a while, when I need you, I will contact you a few days prior to the release of an animatic I just made.

  • I tell you what needs to be done, (normally a couple lines) and you let me know if you're busy or not and if you're available with a simple message.

  • If you're busy, no worries at all. I move on and find a replacement voice actor while you're not available, or post it as a "blank" for now.

Again, this is less like a job and more like the casual, fun, "after school club" that ends up paying off.

  • What is the "OPEN POOL" one?
That means if you like this project and want to audition, but a role has been paused or your voice doesn't fit a specific role listed, you can audition with whatever you got in that section and give it your best shot. If we like your voice and it just so happens to fit another character, we'll tell you about it and cast you!

    • Continue to use the Open Pool Method to cast more actors. It is a legitimate, active resource for us. Because we write on a whim, future minor roles, background voices, and extras will be pulled directly from these submissions without a public casting call.

    • When an animatic drops, every single voice actor is prominently credited with links to their social media/casting profiles in the YouTube description and on screen. We want our audience to find your work.

    What is this project?!

    • Then Came You is a project that is meant to be scaled for the big screen into a full animated series: but is currently being developed by passionate 18-year-old creators in college who make it alone in their bedroom, starting off by posting it to a small YouTube channel.

      What's the vibe?

Classroom of the Elite meets Karate Kid, Monster, and Succession, and the wholesome and beautiful themes of Whisper of the Heart and A Silent Voice. Seems like a lot? If you read the whole story, you'd know that somehow, it works.

Logline: After a defiant new girl (Ebony) swings a punch at the most dangerous power-couple in a prestigious high school, she is labeled as the school's most wanted. Now she must outmaneuver a vengeful street-style gang and scheming academic rivals to keep from failing a school that’s designed to eliminate her.

It can be described as a humanistic, gritty psychological thriller, with a beautiful human heart.

    • The style of my writing: grounded, characters are morally gray. Nostalgic old-school vibes mixed with present-day production and storytelling. We've got parents from the 90s stories' and kids in 2020s. When asked for readers to anonymous guess what age I am based off of my writing, some people have made guesses from 24 to 35 years old, but told the comedy fits the authentic, unserious tone of high schoolers and doesn't feel outdated.

    ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Just me on art and my sister on story. I carry the entire visual load alone. Which is why...I would greatly appreciate other artists in my circle!

Experience: Published novelist, songwriter, and veteran of 15+ art collaborations. I am a dedicated creative workaholic, but I am still learning to direct animation! Be patient with my pace, and I promise to do everything to help you succeed.

I have worked with professionals before: from freelance musicians, to author managers at publishing houses, to editors and reviewers. Both in the US and abroad.

I'm highly active and responsive via Discord, CCC, and Email.

The ultimate theme? Redemption! I believe in people changing for the better.

    ⚠️ IMPORTANT POLICIES & WARNINGS

    • Rated TV-14 / PG-13 for violence and heavy mature themes such as emotional breakdowns. Minimal gore. Safe language and slight cursing, depending on the scene, (e.g., "what-the-frick", "what-the-hell").

    • Under 18? I love working with young talent and helping them grow! However, you must confirm parental permission before I can officially cast you.

    • A Discord account is highly appreciated for communication, but a professional Email is also accepted.

Maybe Casting Call will finally bring me the right voice?

This is perfect for extras and other characters that we didn't list. If you want to be part of our project but aren't sure who your voice fits, drop it here! :)

We'll let you know by the deadline if you fit a part. Just go crazy with it if you want. Bring your passion.

Go freestyle: Your high, low voices, any accents you want to show off, just whatever you got that'd make us consider you.

Storyboard Artist! (We need more) :)
Artist Artist
Storyboard Artist! (We need more) :)
open
Unpaid

We are always in need of more storyboard/animatic artists, so, if you'd like to volunteer and join the storyboard artist team to build your portfolio, go ahead!

For this role, we'll work together based off of a short script snippet in order to make animatics that are posted on Youtube (and you will be credited for your work and can use it in your portfolio). Sometimes, we will have a group with the VAs to make sure we pick the most teaser worthy or enjoyable parts. In which case, you'll be able to pitch your choice! "I believe this section is best for storyboarding" when talking with the actors. And then we'll choose.

If you don't know how to video-edit, no problem, I can do that.

What is needed for this role is to understand you artistic level.

In this case, I myself am intermediate when it comes to art, so I'm looking for someone who has a general understanding of proportions and posing. As long as it gets the point of the script across (clear posing, action is clear, bold enough lines).

Q and A:

Q: Is clean-up required?
No, it can be rough, no stress here! Of course, the cleaner it is, the better, so our clean-up artists don't struggle too much. (My work is rough usually)

Q: What will I be doing?
Making the animatic based off a script. VAs will record lines to help you understand the acting!

Q: Where will we talk?
First, on CCC usually, but you can hop straight into Discord and DM me if that's faster for you. The official group and work will be sent through there. Occasionally, you may be asked to upload through a link to the project's Google Drive.

Q: How will I be credited?
In each YouTube video description, we will write your username/name, and if you wish to share, share your credit links so I can copy and paste your socials.

Q: What if I am busy?

I reach out usually around 1 week in advance to the deadline and ideally try to give at least one weekend overlapping. If things need to be rushed I may tell you 3/4 days in advance, but in that case, I will discuss and plan with you privately what we are doing and post-pone if needed. We will make it work.

Q: Will I have to video edit it together?
It is preferable, but if you can't, we can do it.

Q: What if I change my mind?

First, I let you ask questions on Discord, so you should make up your mind then. But, if during the project you change your mind, you may still leave but let me know ( write to me) and tell me what happened briefly, (any problems or concerns, or if it's just something on your end) that way I can find a replacement for you.

Please submit a link to your portfolio!

Q: What should be in your portfolio, ideally?
A couple clips of animatics you've done for school or yourself, and if you have any comics/mangas, you can add those too!

Q: Do I need to know how to animate?

Q: Will I be storyboarding a whole episode myself?
No. If we do eventually storyboard a whole episode, assignments are given in doable parts by week. I also make it my job to try to be as online as possible to respond to quick questions, even during classes. If anything changes, you'll be the first to know in the updates of the server.

Knowing animation is highly preferred. If you know a bit of animation and can add a couple of frames where parts shift (moving arms, simulate walking with two frames, gestures) you're a prime candidate.

That's all, thank you for your time. :)

We have one video editor at the moment, but it's getting tough even then to put so many videos together at once when I have three large college animation group projects to work on. If we had even one more video editor, perhaps we could move along with production must faster than relying solely on me and our video editor.

What will you do?
Basic video editing: Syncing audio and the video together, importing materials, cutting and getting rid of long pauses, etc until it's watchable and shareable.

Please audition with a link to your portfolio which should include at least two examples of the types of videos you have edited together in the past.

Personally, I use Capcut, and just started with Adobe Premier Pro.

You will be credited always under each video!

Reference Actor (for animation) (film yourself acting the characters!)
Actor Actor
Reference Actor (for animation) (film yourself acting the characters!)

Hi! Artists and animators constantly need to search up live-action references in order to animate your favorite Anime, Disney and other animated works correctly. That's why we study life drawing, and that's how we learn to draw fast, capture raw emotion, and make acting believable.

I've been struggling with this. I'm in need of good action references for both simple and complicated movement for years, which is I think the lack of it has stalled my progress.

Unfortunately, every artist knows this is a struggle to find good ones.

Until now.

It'd be awesome if we'd finally find someone with talent in acting, who would like to share that talent with the rest of the team in order to bring the quality of the production up!

What does this mean?

A reference actor means the following:

You film yourself acting expressively (animation LOVES being dramatic), mashup all the clips into one MP4 or send as a folder to Google Drive. And then, I send that off to the artists.

This will help our artist team study and get better at the craft so that they can deliver better quality work for the animation in scenes!

What you will NOT be doing:
You do not need to voice the character. Whatever you say will most likely get replaced as VAs have been chosen to voice act each character. You may shout and talk as the script calls for, but just keep that in mind.

Quick rundown of what you do:
Jumping, running, dancing, being goofy, being serious, over the shoulder shots, down angles, up angles, subtle facial acting, expressive facial acting, etc. Hands. Character yelling in pure loathing as he stomps down the stairs. I mean...you get the point.

You read the script, and do what you do best: bring it to life! :)

How much will I do?
The animatics are usually a minute long. Depends on the script's complexity, we might ask you to do one part, or nearly the entire thing.

How will you credit me?
You'll be credited in the videos where your reference has been used to be animated with your name.

IMPORTANT:
By applying for this role, you agree to share your video with multiple artists on Discord and Google Drive (if you are selected), and that you agree to post your video on the channel as "behind the scenes" footage if you'd like your work to also be seen.

We can discuss the last part if you do not want to publicly share outside of the artist circle.

How to audition:
Audition with a link to your site or google drive where you have prior examples of acting! Or, a thirty second example of you doing quick facial acting sequences with this prompt: "When I say sorry, you think I'm lying?" Terrified, Sad, Angry, Teasing, or whatever you'd like to try out.

I'll be completely honest with you, I'm not familiar with working with an audio engineer before. But I can tell our project probably needs one! Editing audio with a couple voice actors made me realize that this a specific job that others probably excel at.

If you can help a manage the audio-editing side, you'd help us a ton! Thank you! My voice actors sometimes struggle with mixing audio, you'd be a lifesaver. :)

I will be Stella's backup voice and will do it if you're not available. Stella is one of the most popular characters on the channel and is a fan-favorite. She is an Anti-Villain turned Villain.

She is Jack's girlfriend and is one of the characters with the most screen time.

She has a deep-rooted fear of abandonment, and is basically both her parents styles meshed. Her dad was a "overly polite gentleman" businessman that listens and respects all. Her mom was a blunt rocker who would laugh in people's faces.

Stella is overly polite and sweet, talking in a sugary tone where she genuinely sounds nice. She holds doors, she lets people through, she is one of the first to volunteer to help or welcome new students. But at the same time, she walks with the bold confidence of her mother, and adopted elements of her design. While she smiles to her dad and assures him everything is fine, she then closes the door and her smile drops. Bitterly, she says while commanding a school gang: "I found another fake at school. We have to take her out. Tomorrow. Let's give her one hell of a memory...to remember."

Age Range: Late 20s to Mid 30s
Archetype: The Street-Smart Wildcard / The Vulnerable Cynic
Vocal Vibe: Charismatic. High-energy, blunt bravado masking a fragile, hollow interior, Valley Girl type of voice, is the type that is taking a trip to Starbucks.

Character Description

Jessie is a morally gray character who is a loud, blunt, confident, extrovert.

She is incredibly sharp, fierce, and fiercely protective of the people she loves, often handling the corrupt "dirty work" others won't do.

However, beneath her blunt energy lies a deeply rooted vulnerability and deep inside she feels desperate for love. She is a woman haunted by her past, caught in an internal tug-of-war between the chaotic survival mode she grew up with and the stable life she found with Lawrence. After years, a past lover claws his way back into her life until she is gaslighted and questioning her entire life up to that point. Jasper ends up successfully manipulating her and making her feel alienated in her own house, so she leaves Lawrence and her daughter Stella, the future main antagonist, behind.

We need an actor who can effortlessly pivot from a charismatic, over-expressive girl who smiles a lot and acts playful to sharp, defensive banter when she is proving her worth and then to an eerie, emotionally detached stillness in one scene.

  • Hi, it's me, Jessie! Do you remember me? (Playful) I remember you...I remember you smelled weird, ahaha. (blunt)

  • (A sharp, mocking laugh) "Oh? Look who came crawling back! Did your car bring you here? Or my success?! I think it's time you beg for my forgiveness, Jasper! Not the other way around!"

  • "I don't know what is right anymore. I just want to go home." (Lays back onto her bed and stares at the ceiling)

Noa is "that one rich kid". Should I explain more?
He doesn't have a deep voice, and it's not exactly "smooth" or "rumbly". I don't quite know how to describe it, to be honest. He has a pre-puberty voice still.

  • "Hey Stella, wanna be my girlfriend?" "I WAS JOKING! DON'T KILL ME---" (Gets swatted at)

  • "Hey, Golddigger, come here!" (Him talking to his goldfish)

  • "That girl scares me. Which is exactly why I am going to get her number. I need power. POWER!" (wait a moment) "I don't care about your history Stella, I'm befriending your enemy while you live in my house. It's a movie plot. As they say, the best reels...are real." (wait) "What do you mean nobody says that?"

If you want to try out for Jasper, just know that he's a charismatic bastard. He's not really a good person, he pretty much ruins Jessie, but, there is something very charismatic about him anyway. Which is why, if you're looking for an introvert-turned-villain role, this is it!

  • A girl? In a rock band? They'd never let that happen.

Patricia is a fourteen year-old girl equivalent of a corporate CEO. Her dad is Patrick Baitman. Yes. Baitman. Patricia's family represents cut throat greed. So Patricia is naturally more cold and unfeeling of all the freshman characters. Nearly every single character is afraid of her except a few like Elias or Diane. Patricia is the type that will even through Jack, the school gang leader, off the stairs if he challenges her. Which, she did by the way. And she enjoyed every, single, second. She is the catalyst for multiple character's downfall arcs because she gives ultimatums when people are at their most vulnerable. Do her dirty work, or get crushed by the others.

If you want to play a corporate teen villain, this is it.

  • I have an opportunity for you, and I suggest you take it. That is, unless you want to know what hell feels like tomorrow when Stella abolishes your whole act and twists you into a villain again for everyone to see. And yes, I know about that. I've heard her speeches. Nothing new. But tomorrow? That'll change. The rumors everywhere? That's just the beginning. And you know it too...I know you do."

  • Delete Matt's project in the computer lab before the end of first period. Don't let him see you. I need it done by 9:15. With no traces. And then? I'll fulfill my side of the deal by 10 PM. I'll send you the screenshots. Everything I have. Her number, her socials, her dad's firm and company's news articles. The scandal. I'll even give you her list of family members that I have saved in my phone. That is....in case you want to go the extra mile."

  • You were never my best friend, and I knew that from the start. Nothing lasts forever, and friendship is as brittle as a twig. (Canon quote)

Maralyn is Ebony's (the MC) best friend!
She is the super chatty blond with the hydroflask....who tells you everyone's secrets and rumors! Maralyn doesn't betray Ebony though, she helps her you know, when she's aware of what's going on finally instead of talking with her back turned while Ebony and Jack have the biggest standoff in front of the whole hallway. Maralyn brings in the comedy! If you can get into a half-whisper or an excited, or tiredy, perhaps even slightly gravelly voice, this is for you!

Basically, she is chaotic. If you're chaotic...go AHEAD. Thank you. :)
