The Witch's Gloves
Project Overview
DEADLINE EXTENDED!
The Witch's Gloves is an original audio-drama style podcast planned for this Halloween (based on a short I previously produced). It takes place in a world where witches exist, finding their way through a world stained by centuries of persecution. The story follows Grace Glover, an innocent college student, who is intrigued by a witchy-looking girl named Rhiannon, and her black gloves. Grace discovers there may an undiscovered secret deep within herself. A shoutout to the film The Craft as a big influence on this story.
There is some adult content, a few swear words here and there, some violence, and a portion of the story involves "Sex magic" and love between two female characters. Nothing overtly graphic is spoken or acted out. Most of the characters are college students or older so actors 18 or older are preferred.

Grace Glover is referred to as "The Good Girl With the White Gloves." She has been raised in a sheltered religious household and is away from home in College for the first time. She is kind, good mannered, and (initially) committed to her faith, but is still curious about what campus life has to offer her. Without spoiling too much, I'll say she goes through quite the change.
She is also the narrator.
It should be noted that this character shares a love scene with another female character. Nothing overtly graphic is spoken or acted out.
(Narration) It was the day after the Equinox. There had been a frat party, and somehow my room-mate, Christine, convinced me to go with her. My parents had warned me against going to these kinds of parties and especially drinking alcohol. It’s why they resisted sending me to college in the first place. Well here I was, Grace Glover, the good girl who always wore white gloves and never did anything wrong in her life, committing her first rebellious act. I guess it could have been worse.
(Chuckles) Is this some kind of love potion? I’m starting to wonder if you really are a witch. Aren’t they supposed to be evil beings? Followers of Satan? There’s stories of animal sacrifices and drinking blood, seducing men, hypnotizing young girls? Am I right?
(Scared Gasp - Freaking out) Oh my God! What did you do to my hand?! Stop it! Make it go away! This is just a nightmare! I want to go home!
Rhiannon (real name Stephanie) is another college student described as a black-haired girl looking like something out of a dark novel. But it is revealed that she is indeed a witch - seductive with a calm confidence, but still benevolent to others around her. Although she cannot reveal her true identity in public, she has made piece with her double life. She loves music, she loves to dance, and she seeks love.
It should be noted that this character swears a couple times and shares a love scene with another female character. Nothing overtly graphic is spoken or acted out.
(Seductively) You're wondering about my gloves? They cover my arms past the elbows and they safeguard my energy. We all have energy - so much of it is in our hands. Gloves don’t just protect that energy, they accentuate it. Especially black gloves. You should try them sometime. Howabout meeting me off campus? The Spells Brew on North Street?
(Speaking up in class) The Salem Witch Trials were about control - the Patriarchy forcing their women to remain subservient and sheltered and follow the rules of the church. Any woman who displayed power, independence and especially sexual freedom was accused of witchcraft and put to death by these power hungry Puritans.
(Reciting a spell)
Powers of birth and rebirth
Powers of sound and rhythm
Heal my mind and body!
Janis is the high priestess of a Witch's Coven. She is a little older than the others, powerful, wise, worldly and carries the scars of prejudice against Witches. She takes the craft very seriously and is not afraid to show strength when needed. Above all wants to protect her fellow witches and right the wrongs of society.
(Recites a spell)
Powers and emotions tied
A witch’s heart is where it hides
Help her through her agony
Bless her with her memory
(Angry) When I tell you to sit here, you sit here! You understand me Rosalita! You almost got shot! You need to stop being so reckless!
(Answering Grace's question) Contrary to what your Christian teachings may have spoon-fed you, Witchcraft is not just achieved by drinking the blood of Satan and sacrificing Goats. Magic comes in many forms. Even Dark Magic is nothing to be feared. Darkness and Light are merely two opposite but dependent entities.
Rosalita is the rebellious member of the Witch's Cauldron. She puts on the "Bad Witch" persona, teasing people about cooking them in her cauldron or sacrificing them to Satan. She's quite fascinated by that aspect of being a Witch and is very reckless - like she has something to prove. Ultimately, she is still committed to her fellow Witches, to the Craft, and wants to earn Janis's love and respect.
Listen Blondie! You don’t question Lady Janis! Unless you want us to carve you up and cook you in our cauldron. (Slurp sound effect) Mmmm, I bet you would taste so good!
Joining our Coven would be a lot better than some stupid preppy sorority. (Mocking Valley Girl accent) Oh look at me. I’m in a sorority. I got knocked up by Brad from the football team.
(Tearing up) I’m - I'm sorry Janis. I just wanted to scare them away-
Reverend Miller practices at the local church just off campus. He is a middle-aged man and initially Grace's spiritual leader. He appears to be a very kind person, understanding that college life is never so innocent and simply wants to reinforce staying on the path. However, there may possibly be an unseen dark side to Miller and may have his own wicked agenda.
(In his Office - Chuckles) Well Grace when I was your age, I’m ashamed to say, I abused alcohol much worse than that. Par for the course when you’re in college. But I asked The Lord for forgiveness and He showed me the path.
(Incognito on a Witch Hunt) They are indeed agents of the devil. I know a Witch’s Sabbath when I see one. You’ve done well Samuel. Drag them over, but use caution. They may be powerful.
Christine is Grace's roommate. Christine often teases her for being a prude and is quick to spread gossip.
(Chuckles) Grace, that's called a hangover. I still can’t believe we convinced you, the good girl in the white gloves, to chug a white claw.
(Concerned) What happened to you Grace? I feel like I’m talking to a completely different person.
Bobby is a fellow student at Grace's school, exemplary student. He meets her and tries to hit on her. (NOTE: An audition line has been added for this character)
What’s up with the gloves? Are you a hand-model?
Ah here’s my coffee, Grace can I join you for a tea party sometime?
I feel like I went more for Dracula than a warlock. (Dracula impression) Bleh! I can fly too by turning into a Vampire bat!
Samuel leads a group of witch hunters. He is committed to finding them and pleasing his Older Master.
See? See how they dance? I told you they were witches.
Idiot! Don’t just shoot your gun in the air. You’re gonna alert the witches!
Johnathan is a member of the Witch Hunters. He is the doubter of the group, least likely to believe any superstitions the other speak of.
Maybe they’re just three drunk college girls dancing to hippie music. I'm just sayin -
Ow! What the hell?! Watch where you're going!
Thomas is a member of the Witch Hunters group, very quick to believe anything he hears and has something to prove.
I’m not afraid of some girls in Halloween costumes.
She’s trying to trick us!
A fellow student at Grace's college who hangs out with her and Christine. She is quick to speak about gossip. She believes in the witches lore surrounding Salem.
I heard these three ladies in hooded robes attacked this poor group of boys in the forest. They were found tied to a tree upside-down with their clothes in tatters. They’re fine, but when the police cut them down, they kept yelling about witches.
Uh oh, she’s under the witch’s spell!
(Nervous) So uh, are you going to turn me into a witch?
(Change to annoyed) What do you mean I don’t have it in me? I’d be the best witch there is!
A U.S. History Professor at Grace's school. He appreciates when the students are engaged in his lectures.
I’m sure some of you might have visited the site of the Salem Witch Trial Hangings, or been to the museum, which you should while you’re here. But who can tell me the motives behind these senseless killings?
Ms. Nicholson watch the language please! I appreciate you joining the discussion but let’s not start our own accusations without knowing all the facts, okay?
Looking for someone to do some cover art for this project. I mostly want an image of the main characters, Grace (in mostly white attire with white gloves) and Rhiannon (in a witch outfit with black gloves). Setting could either be on a college campus or in the woods. Style-wise, I see this as being manga inspired - Sailor Moon or Miyazaki style.
