The Wind: A Story of Surrender

Project Overview

The Wind: A Story of Surrender is a short side-scrolling platforming game about a little bird named Zari who lost the ability to fly. It was made as an allegorical testimony of the situations I experienced personally over six of my maturing years. With about 30 minutes to an hour of varied gameplay, this cute little story aims to teach an important lesson to people who struggle to overcome emotional trauma.

I am considering adding voice acting to this game, and I am looking for people who could voice act for all the different roles. I will be playing the lead, and my brother will also be playing some of the roles. Only available roles are listed.

This is Zari's flight coach. He should sound just like a P.E. teacher.

  • Okay, Zari. The race is in two days, so treat this practice like it’s the real thing, got it?

  • Now speed is good, but remember to pace yourself. You don’t want to run out of energy in the middle, or lose your balance and stumble over your own two wings. The wind forbid, you should take a dive for it. That’d be nasty.

  • Zari! Are you okay? Anything broken?

Diggo the Duck is one of the participants of the Annual Flight Race. He should have a New York accent.

  • This is a big day for me. I got two races—one flying, one swimming—a feeding competition, and a flight show rehearsal all in one day.

  • Hey, you! Kid! What are you doing here?

  • The wind doesn’t give a damn about where you go. It’s the wind. You’d be better off plucking seeds off the ground to sell to the folks cheering on the sidelines.

  • Alright, folks! Take your positions!

  • ...and coming in first place for the third year in a row, Diggo the duck!

  • And first place this year goes to...

Therapist 1 is Zari's first therapist. She should speak with lightness in her voice, like most counsellors and therapists do.

  • Okay, Zari. Good to know you can still double jump. Have you been able to fly any higher recently?

  • Why do you think that is? Because you can get up there when you really want to. I’ve seen you do it.

  • Okay then. We’re out of time for this session, but this next week, try to decide whether you *really* want to improve. I have to let my next client in, but I hope you have a great week! I’ll see you next Friday.

Nona is Zari's sister. In the scene she appears in, she's annoyed with Zari because Zari didn't get the berries for dinner again.

  • *Sighs* Why didn’t you? Dad said it’s your turn. It’s so easy! Just fly up and get them!

  • What is it with you and flying? Why can’t you just fly like any normal bird would?

  • If you don’t want to fly, then find some other way to get up there. But get it done. It’s your turn.

Role assigned to: CloudyDecember

The receptionist of the therapy company Zari goes to after she leaves her first therapist. She should talk light, cordial, and to the point, like most receptionists.

  • Hello there, how may I help you today?

  • That’s great to hear. We have drop-in appointments for first time clients, and one of our therapists is available now, if you’re interested.

  • “Zari”. Wonderful. I just notified our therapist of your appointment. Go ahead and head in through the next door. He’ll be waiting for you.

The second therapist Zari sees. He should sound around his 50's or 60's. He uses a lot of power words at inappropriate times, making him seem rather disconnected with his clients. Otherwise, he should speak with lightness in his voice, like most therapists and counsellors do.

  • I see. So you’d like help processing and moving past that pain?

  • Wonderful. So how our brains work is that thoughts create emotions which turn into behaviors. If you think thoughts that counteract those negative emotions, it can lead to more positive emotions. So what are some thoughts that make you feel more hopeful?

  • Very good. It’s about time to close up. You’ll have to talk with the receptionist in the birdhouse out to the right to schedule our next appointment.

Ophie

Ophie is an essential role in the game. She is the one who encourages Zari and helps her overcome all her troubles. She should sound 100% authentic during the deep parts, and also be pretty peppy during the more casual parts.

  • Hi! I’m Ophie.

  • The wind is really good today. It’ll take us to great places. It’s always great to see where the wind takes us. So many adventures! I can’t imagine living life without the wind…

  • Sometimes you just need to surrender, and let the wind take over. Let it carry you. The wind knows how to lift you up and put you on the right course. You just need to let it do it.
