Doctor John Baldring, a world famous Archeologist, discovered the tomb of Rachnes, a great Egyptian King. But uncovering this tomb there was a curse "Whomsoever disturbeth the tomb of Rachnes shall meet death from his closest of kin" With the death of Dr. John Baldring, Lamont Cranston and Margot Lane must seek out the truth on how he truly died.

[Concerned] John, it’s nearly eleven o’clock… Why don’t you stop work and go to bed?
[Upset] John, I’ve never said this to you before… But… why don’t you give up this work of yours… I… Haven’t slept peacefully since you discovered the tomb of Rachnes. My sleep has been troubled by terrible dreams. [Concerned] I’m afraid for you!
[Concerned] John, get rid of that urn… It’s that urn I see in my sleep! That urn with the snake coiled around it![Slowly] There is no reason for me to conceal it now… My son hated his father… Vowed that he would kill him. If I hadn’t tried to bring them together again… If I had let Storm stay away from here… [Begins to cry] He and my husband would still be alive!
Then you know that too. Yes, I did try to burn the will. It was unfair to cut Strom off without a penny and leave his share of the estate to Mr. Richards, my husband’s assistant.There was a clause in the will restraining me from giving him any assistance. When Storm carried John up to his room, I searched the desk and found the will. I lighted a match to it and burned it.
Dr. John Baldring is a Famous Archaeologist who is responsible on descovering the Tomb of Rachnes, The great Egyptian King.
But, I have so much to do, my dear… And my notes are in such disorder. [Laughs] Writing the history of the Great Rachnes is more of a job than I bargained for, but… well, I suppose it’s my duty. The least I can do for him after digging him out of his tomb after his five thousand-year sleep.
Why away from here? [Quietly Logical} Rachnes surely can’t bother me here in my own house. We’re thousands of miles from Egypt… [Laughs] But here I am talking as If Rachnes were alive and able to harm me. That’s what comes of writing histories… Time loses all meaning…
To himself] Now, to get back to work… Let me see… [Shuffling of papers] Oh, yes… [Reads] In the year of famine, Rachnes ordained that families containing more than five children must be reduced to five in order to conserve the food supply. Thereupon followed the most brutal, bloody slaughter of young children ever recorded in the annals of Egypt… [Pause] [Shuffling of papers] [Piping Music starts] As near as we can make out from the Hieroglyphic inscriptions… [Stops reading] What’s this? It sounds like…. [Scared] No… No… It can’t be…. [Sound of a Snake crawling across the papers on the desk] [Scared] The urn… Help! Help! Somebody…. [Screams, Dr. Baldring falls to the floor]
The Assisstant of Dr. John Baldring. He has helped him with his work for over Twenty years.
I hope I’m not bothering you, Doctor, but I just got back from town and noticed the light burning in the study. I wondered whether you’d want me to give you a hand with the notes?
Alright, Doctor… Just as you say. Goodnight, Mrs. Baldring… Good night, Doctor.
Dr. Tuttles was called upon by Mrs. Baldring after discovering her late husband's body.
[Patiently] Mrs. Baldring and her son, Strom Baldring.
Yes, I did, Mr. Cranston. But I can’t make out what caused them.
Yes, I quite agree, Mr. Cranston. That rigid attitude… Staring
eyes and look of horror on Dr. Baldring’s face precludes the possibility of
heart failure… As I was led to believe when I was called on this case.Storm Baldring. (Note - He is saying the son's name)
the son of Mrs Elly Baldring and Dr. John Baldring, Strom was disinherit due to him marrying a woman which Dr. Baldring did not approve and how Storm wished to be in the Music Career instead of following his father's footsteps in Archeology.
[Concerned] Murder? Why that’s preposterous! My father has had a heart condition for years. Didn’t Dr. Tuttle tell you that?
[Angered] Are you accusing me of murdering my father?
My choice of professions. I was interested in music… Naturally my father wanted me to continue in his footsteps… Archeology.
If you must know everything… My father disapproved of the woman I was going to marry… Cut me off without a cent… To prevent me from marrying her.Yes. For two years, we struggled along trying to live on the money I earned with my music.
About a year ago, she died. [Pause] Pneumonia. She went without a coat that whole winter. [Pause] Later, my mother effected my reconciliation with my father.

What this Shadow says is not true, Memsahib! Sahib Strom died by his own hand… It was the will of the Gods.
Professor Beardroff was Dr. Baldring's rival, both searching for the tomb of Rachnes. Now being taken in to police Headquarters by Commissioner Weston for the suspicion of Murdering Dr. Baldring and his son Storm Baldring
[Annoyed] This whole thing is preposterous… I don’t understand.
[Annoyed] The mere fact that I was examining the Rachnes Cup does not mean that I am guilty of Dr. Baldring’s, or his son’s murder! I read the papers that the Doctor was dead. I came here to buy the Rachnes Cup for my museum!
[Annoyed] I had done an equal amount of study and research on the subject…
[Angered] I did not hate him!
