The Rookie: A Halo Fan Film

The Rookie: A Halo Fan Film

Project Overview

LESS THAN A WEEK LEFT NOW! DEADLINE IS 13/06/2026!!

Intro:

Hey everyone! Hope you’re doing well!

I’m currently working on the early pre-filming stages of a Halo fan-film project under the working title The Rookie.

The medium will be live-action utilising a set of ODST armour, a number of props and more I’ve built over 2 years, to tell the tale of The Rookie after the events of Halo 3 ODST.

Before we get into things, I’d like to make a quick and pretty important note.

I would like to absolutely prevent the use of AI in my film wherever possible, and I don't think I’m going to budge on that unless absolutely necessary.

For this reason, I’m asking that please; no AI be used for any voice auditions, I would much rather have a slightly imperfect recreation of characters voices than allow a machine to take a voice actors opportunity.

I’m trusting you to be upfront about this, I do have an ear for it but its becoming harder to make the distinction. This decision is because I want to prove that voice talent can overcome the march of the robots, so I’m hoping you’ll be on board with the sentiment and are willing to bring your best without voice altering AI.

Where you come in (hopefully :D):

However, in order to do so I hope to begin the film with a series of audio snippets from his past missions (voicing over a weapons and armour suit-up footage sequence); including audio of events from his first mission in the Halo short story Dirt, his second mission in Halo 3 ODST, his third; Operation: Joint Monitor, his fourth; Operation: Kinetic Storm, and his 'final' mission in the book Halo New Blood. Therefore, I will be looking for a relatively large number of voice actors and actresses from all walks of life to take part in bringing this echoey flashback sequence to life.

The Why and the How:

I've wanted to showcase my passion for my various crafts and my love for this franchise and in particular the hidden gem that is Halo 3 ODST since it first released. With the release of a new Halo title on the horizon, and the hugely successful video-game Helldivers II only getting bigger (which not only takes strong inspiration from Halo, but since the first post I made looking for cast it has actually collaborated with them and brought ODST's to the game! The first appearance of ODSTs since Halo Reach!), there is no better time to bring a Halo ODST fan-film to life!

For me, making a Halo ODST film is a love letter. In my humble opinion it's one of the greatest modern interpretations of a Detective Noir story, its command of contrast in balancing day/light and night/dark drastically amplifies both opposing experiences in quality, it adapts almost to the letter an iconic poem: Dante's Inferno, and it has some of the best looking armour, most fun weapons and most enjoyable overall FPS gameplay of our generation. Xbox 360 gaming at its finest.

And so, with all the equipment, software, skills and now a completed suit of armour, a collection of props, a number of already involved voice-actors, a saxophonist or two, a couple of filmmaking cosplayers, a rough script draft and a dream, here I am, hoping to "jump feet first into hell" and make this thing.

My passion for this project has been reignited and I am excited to get to work! But if you lovely people out there are willing, I could use your help to do so.

What I'd like you to get out of it!:

As I believe I have mentioned elsewhere in this casting call I will be working with my own money and thus a limited budget. However! With time, and as I produce completed scripts, storyboards, demo footage, and maybe even voiceovers and music too with your help, I may be able to have enough to start publishing content and building potential fans of this idea. At that stage I am hoping to make a gofundme or otherwise fundraise for the project (I'm already working on an online shop selling merch using my artworks and graphic designs, from which all the profits will go into the project), and if I can, I'd really love to reimburse anyone who helps out for their time. I want to be upfront about this because I truly do respect the craft all of you have been perfecting, and I believe that creative work should be sufficiently paid for.

In short I wish to say that at the very least, if I can make this a fun, engaging and beneficial experience, make you comfortable in the role you take on and with the work you deliver, give you something to add to your portfolio, credit you as thoroughly as I can including internal film credits overlayed on top of the voice-over intro sequence you'll be part of (using your name, alias or username depending on your preference), and add links to any description attached to the film so that watchers can find more of your work then I shall do so.

But that I'd also like to work to make this financially viable for your time too!

Conclusion:

Thank you for reading my unnecessarily large paragraphs, thank you for your interest and time, especially if you take the time to audition for a role, and good luck! I'm excited to hear from you and look forward to working with you!

So without further ado, the logline, synopsis, genres and more, for the Halo short fan-film The Rookie...

Logline:

A taciturn Orbital Drop Shock Trooper is asked to fake his death in order to embark on a covert mission to uncover the secrets hidden by an illusive alien race.

Synopsis:

The Rookie, an expert Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST), whom is part of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), is tasked with making the ultimate sacrifice, faking his own death in order to undergo a deep-cover mission known only by classified personnel of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). His quiet nature, detective skills and knack for solo combat lead him on an operation to uncover the secrets of the Huragok, a species of alien bio-supercomputer, with only the coordinates provided to him by a Huragok who was captured by his team, and the knowledge that whatever they have been hiding could change everything…

Genres:

Sci-fi, Action, Adventure, Mystery, Mild Noir and Detective Themes.

Character Bios:

I have included additional character info about the Rookie separated from the main description and enclosed within one of the "roles", however it can be safely ignored if you only wish to know your own role in the film.

Auditioning:

and lastly! If I do shortlist other voice-actors, please don't let their performances change or redefine yours! In fact, I'd recommend not to listen to them at all and simply give your all to the audition in your own way!

Since this is the second round of casting, I have already assembled a team for many other roles, and in some cases I have prospects who have not been cast, yet still hold interest in voicing characters. I mention this since they will likely take some priority as a result.

However, as I do wish to give everyone the best chance I am 100% still keen on hearing auditions for every character I’ve listed up until the deadline, at which stage I will make a more definitive decision.

Good luck! and Keep it Clean!

NOTE: I'VE MOVED SOME ROLES TO THE TOP OF THE LIST TO BOOST THEM.

I HAVE NOT YET HEARD ANY AUDITIONS FOR DR. ENDESHA, BUT I'M STILL VERY KEEN ON FINDING SOMEONE TO PLAY HIM!

DR DANIEL ENDESHA [Voice Impression: Hakeem Kae-Kazim]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

Dr Daniel Endesha is the father of Sadie Endesha, who herself is the protagonist of the audio log story within Halo 3 ODST. He is a scientist working on seismic experimentation 9 levels beneath the surface of the city, and while he certainly has made steps to be a good father; in that he build a subroutine into the city AI to keep an eye on his daughter for him, he also seems to be somewhat distant due to his work. In the lines that will hopefully feature in the film, he is too busy getting excited about his new discoveries to even realise the city is under attack from an alien invasion.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

This character sadly will likely have the smallest role of all. But I would still be happy to hear from any potential VAs interested in the role, if someone standout auditions I will see what I can do to work on some extra parts so that its more of a fair involvement instead of simply a couple of lines.

How He Sounds

His voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6R2bmIz0-k&t=3m20s

This video includes his daughter Sadie's entire story, he does have an appearance early on, which I have timestamped in the above link, and I believe he appears a couple of times later throughout.

Daniel has a distinct Kenyan accent and a deep register.

Ultimately though, I'm open to hear different interpretations of his character as well as attempts at matching his voice.

I look forward to hearing your auditions!!

NOTE: I'VE MOVED SOME ROLES TO THE TOP OF THE LIST TO BOOST THEM.

I HAVE NOT YET HEARD ANY AUDITIONS FOR SADIE ENDESHA, BUT I'M STILL VERY KEEN ON FINDING SOMEONE TO PLAY HER!

SADIE ENDESHA [Voice Impression: Masasa Moyo]:

Official Depiction Overview [How she is presented in the canonical work]:

Sadie Endesha first appears in the audio log story that plays within Halo 3 ODST's nighttime missions. She plays a crucial role in the city's Superintendent AI and it's connection with Quick to Adjust, a valuable alien super-computer. Her father Dr. Endesha created a subroutine in the city AI to keep an eye on his daughter for him, and he called it Vergil. During the Covenant attack on the city, Vergil guides Sadie to safety, the story closely mirroring that of Dante's Inferno. When Quick to Adjust finds its way into the data center he downloads the AI into his brain, and in doing so, absorbs Vergil as well. From then on the floaty cute alien is referred to as Vergil, and later reunites with Sadie in a follow-up story. She is very energetic and understandably frantic during her time in the Covenant invasion, and deals with a great many trials that test her resolve, but she is strong willed and pushes through in the end.

Our Depiction Overview [How she will be presented in our film]:

Sadie not only has voicelines I'd like to include from her story in the game, but she also has the potential of making an appearance in later sections, including perhaps quite a decent role. All depending of course on whether I can find someone suited for the role.

How She Sounds

Her voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6R2bmIz0-k

This video includes her entire story, but she is the protagonist of it and therefore appears all throughout, if you'd like more examples I will try to timestamp several good spots to find her lines.

Sadie has a distinct Kenyan accent, a medium register, and a lot of fiesty attitude to go around.

Ultimately though, I'm open to hear different interpretations of her character as well as attempts at matching her voice.

I look forward to hearing your auditions!!

CMDR Sarah Palmer [Voice Impression: Jennifer Hale] (Female)

SPARTAN COMMANDER SARAH PALMER [Voice Impression: Jennifer Hale]:

Official Depiction Overview [How she is presented in the canonical work]:

Sarah Palmer makes countless appearances in Halo, especially through the newly established canon, her first appearance was in Halo 4 as a Spartan Commander and later appearing in Halo 5. The Spartan program is one of biological enhancements and technological advancements in order to produce the ultimate super soldiers. As such, Palmer is a tough-as-nails badass and has the feats to show for it. She is the protagonist of her own spin-off game; Halo Spartan Assault, and she's appeared in countless books, some of which directly involve members of Alpha-Nine. The one of importance is Halo New Blood, in which she meets Buck in his early career and returns later as a Spartan to rescue the squad from the insurrectionists they're in a stand-off with. She has a slight full-of-herself demeanour though she is one to banter as well.

Our Depiction Overview [How she will be presented in our film]:

Sarah Palmer's role in my film will be her appearance in New Blood, she arrives late to the fight and the result is the Rookie's death, which becomes a huge impact on the squad and the catalyst for the beginning of our film. During this scene she will probably sound rather larger-than-life like she's on top of the world, got done with her own mission and "figured she would pop by to help" when in reality Alpha-Nine is in deep trouble and needs her to be serious.

How She Sounds

Her voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in this video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0TvwpjzeLs

She does also appear in Halo 5 and Halo Spartan Assault as a voiced role, but this should provide a solid selection to choose from. You may also be able to take inspiration from any of Jennifer Hale's other roles, such as Commander Shepherd from Mass Effect or even perhaps a little Ashe from Overwatch (though her southern accent is quite a bit stronger as Ashe).

Ultimately though, I'm open to hear different interpretations of her character as well as attempts at matching her voice.

I look forward to hearing your auditions!!

CPTN Veronica Dare [Voice Impression: Tricia Helfer] (Female)

CAPTAIN VERONICA DARE [Voice Impression: Tricia Helfer]:

Official Depiction Overview [How she is presented in the canonical work]:

Veronica Dare first appeared in Halo 3 ODST, she is introduced as the Office of Naval Intelligence operative taking command of Alpha-Nine, and additionally she is the "will-they-won't-they" love interest of Edward Buck. As the game commences, the drop-pods spiral out of control and the squad is separated, players embody Buck during a mission attempting to reach Dare but he finds her pod empty. Meanwhile, she has headed underground, in search of her true mission, reclaiming the city AI's data core. The Rookie finds her first and the pair discover Quick to Adjust, an alien bio-supercomputer which downloaded the data core into itself. After meeting up with Buck the trio escort the alien down the highway and via a stolen ship, off the planet. After the events of the game, Dare is posted on Quito Station along with the rest of Alpha-Nine. During this time, the alien, now called Vergil, is interrogated about what it knows of the Covenant's intentions, however it harbors another secret, and Vergil only trusts Rookie and Dare to keep it. She maintains a somewhat night and day balance of semi-hostile and energetic throughout her character-arc, especially with Buck. Though during scenes with Rookie and Vergil she has a much more calm demeanor.

Our Depiction Overview [How she will be presented in our film]:

Many of the lines featured in the film will be borrowed from the game in order to refresh the audience on the events that took place. However, Dare will also play a significant role in the later segments, as she will be a representative of her section of ONI during several covert meetings. One of the four characters involved in these meetings may be able to "supervise the mission" and therefore have additional lines throughout querying Rookie's discoveries or providing direction and orders.

How She Sounds

Her voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_UZBdysv6M

Dare seems to have a mild Canadian accent, although I could be wrong, I'm not all that familiar with American accents living down under! She has a tougher voice than some of the others. I think I'll let the video speak for itself though!

Ultimately I'm open to hear different interpretations of her character.

Rani Sobeck [Voice Impression: Olivia Burnette] (Female)

RANI SOBECK [Voice Impression: Olivia Burnette]:

Official Depiction Overview [How she is presented in the canonical work]:

Rani Sobeck first appeared in the Halo universe during the Halo 2 “ilovebees” ARG campaign; in which a lengthy Halo story was told through a series of short audio logs. Bungie (the game developers) themselves would ring public payphones which when answered by any random passerby would play these audio stories on the other end. Her role in this ARG was an involvement with some of the Office of Naval Intelligence's shady activities, and she was the plucky and energetic personality attempting to navigate it.

Our Depiction Overview [How she will be presented in our film]:

Rani is part of a section of ONI which would put her at the forefront of this covert mission explained in the primary description and in other voice role descriptions. Since she was young at the time the audio logs took place and some time has passed, this voice may only need to be reminiscent of Olivia’s, and not necessarily perfectly mimic her. However, that being said, that time passage has only been a few years.

How She Sounds

Her voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video, I've also timestamped the link so that the first thing you will hear will be her voice:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCbceFb2Yjk&t=13807s

If I get time I will update this section to include further timestamps and examples. The video itself actually does have helpful timestamps labelled with each of the protagonists names, if you scroll through you'll be able to find many other "Rani: " clips.

From what I can hear of her voice, she has a softer register with a slight southern accent, and she will be more of an energetic voice to contrast the characters also in her scene for the film.

Ultimately I'm open to hear different interpretations of her character, including somewhat older sounding voices. However only a couple of years have realistically passed since her appearance in the audio drama, so as close to as possible would be preferred!

Note: For this character and anyone else with this note included, there may be only a very small role involved. These roles will have lines from the books, which were never voiced, because of this it would also then be ideal that the same voice actors replace the characters lines from in-game as well, so that within the film the audience can make the connection between the two. If voice actors can be successfully obtained for these characters I will be able to consider expanding the line selection from the book to encompass more of that story.

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS MICKEY [Voice Impression: Alan Tudyk]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

Mickey is the awkward, silly one of the bunch, he can certainly be serious here and there, but more often than not he has something funny to say. He carries the Rocket Launcher and is the resident explosives expert, often the one to press a button or pilot an aircraft. He's very high energy and weirdly seems to enjoy himself despite the circumstances.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

Many of the lines featured in the film will be borrowed from the game in order to refresh the audience on the events that took place. However, Mickey will also play a decent role in one of the later segments, since he's involved in a later mission involving rebel insurgents. In that section of the story he joins Dutch in attempting to arrest an insurrectionist leader.

How He Sounds

His voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmDrhbScpOM

Mickey seems to have an average American accent, his voice is the lightest register of the bunch, he plays his role in the game almost exactly like his role in Firefly as Wash the resident pilot and tech-support.

Ultimately though, I'm open to hear different interpretations of his character as well as attempts at matching his voice.

GUNNERY SERGEANT BUCK [Voice Impression: Nathan Fillion]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

Buck is the leader, he boasts a commanding demeanour but he also cares about his squad and acts kinda like a father figure for them. If Rookie were not the protagonist of the game, Buck would be. He's in a will-they-won't-they relationship with Dare, full of history and past conflict that gets brought up and relived mid-mission, complicating their relationship. But throughout the game he proves he can be a solid partner. All the while Buck kicks some serious tail in his other missions, and has witty banter with the anti-authority sarcasm machine of the team; Romeo.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

Many of the lines featured in the film will be borrowed from the game in order to refresh the audience on the events that took place. However, Buck will also play a decent role in one of the later segments, since he's involved in a later mission involving rebel insurgents. In that section of the story he has a little more banter with Romeo, and then panics over Rookie as he finds himself in a predicament.

How He Sounds

His voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SV3QADJgNY

Buck seems to have an average American accent, his voice is a medium register, and to be honest he sounds about the same as most of his other roles you may have seen Nathan Fillion appear in. Though he's not quite as airheaded as Guy Gardner, he does sound quite alike to his role in Firefly, to John Nolan in The Rookie cop show (which is the sole reason I'm now having to change my film's name), and even in his very own fan-film of Uncharted.

Ultimately though, I'm open to hear different interpretations of his character as well as attempts at matching his voice.

LANCE CORPORAL ROMEO [Voice Impression: Nolan North]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

Romeo is the sarcastic smart-mouth of the group, he spends most of his time running his mouth and the rest of being told off. He does experience a rather humbling moment when he's near-fatally wounded later into the story, but all of the lines featuring in my film will be disconnected from that. As such, all you'll need to know is that he thinks he's a comedian, but nobody's laughing.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

Many of the lines featured in the film will be borrowed from the game in order to refresh the audience on the events that took place. However, Romeo will also play a decent role in one of the later segments, since he's involved in a later mission involving rebel insurgents. In that section of the story a few of his lines do retain a little of that witty dry humour he's known for.

How He Sounds

CORPORAL DUTCH [Voice Impression: Adam Baldwin]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

Dutch is the rough, gruff, heavy weapons specialist. He begins his debut mission with a squad of marines and an all-terrain 4x4 strapped with a turret, blasting his way through droves of vehicular enemies. That should be all you need to know. But I suppose the guy also has a big heart; he's very religious, named his Spartan Laser "Vera", and acts more often like a gentle giant taking care of his squad mates.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

Many of the lines featured in the film will be borrowed from the game in order to refresh the audience on the events that took place. However, Dutch will also play a decent role in one of the later segments, since he's involved in a later mission involving rebel insurgents. In that section of the story he busts down a door in true Dutch fashion.

How He Sounds

His voice as it's depicted in the official media can be heard in its entirety in this video;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJCB3rSE_IU

Dutch seems to have an average American accent, with a mild hint of southern, he has a deeper register and a rougher sound.

Ultimately though, I'm open to hear different interpretations of his character as well as attempts at matching his voice.

I look forward to hearing your auditions!!

SERGEANT MAJOR AVERY JOHNSON [Voice Impression: David Scully]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

Sergeant Johnson is probably the biggest named character appearing in the film, he had his debut in the very first Halo, and spent his time side by side with the chief until the end. He's the rough around the edges drill sergeant of the franchise, doing hyping speeches and pep-talks for anyone who'll listen, and making outrageous claims about his past military experiences. He's got a deep, rough voice, and nine times out of ten he's as loud as he's able to be. His role in Halo 3 ODST, albeit very brief, is still quite crucial, he is brought in to speak with Vergil and hopefully pry the hidden secrets he keeps out of him.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

Many of the lines featured in the film will be borrowed from the game in order to refresh the audience on the events that took place. Johnson in particular only really has a couple of lines necessary to complete the story, and they relate to his brief appearance in the post credits scene of ODST. While he does play a prevalent role there, I would be interested to see if anyone out there can replicate his voice, since he'd then be able to have more of an involvement in the interrogation of Vergil.

How He Sounds

Sergeant Johnson has a deep register, with a roughness to it. He does smoke cigars half the time after all. He carries himself like he owns the room and I'd argue that he does most days.

JANE DOVE [Female]:

Our Depiction Overview [How they will be presented in our film]:

Jane Dove, only appears as a photograph picture taped to the interior of The Rookie's drop-pod during Halo 3 ODST. But despite this being quite an unnoticeable easter egg, I would like her to be a pretty important aspect of The Rookie's journey. About halfway through his mission, Rookie will be forced to reflect as waits for an evac to arrive and pickup his fallen comrades. At this time, he goes through his pack and finds a metal tin containing his personal effects. One of these items is a recording device that will have a message from his love back home, motivating him to push forward and keep fighting.

How She Could Sound:

I'm open to hear different interpretations of Jane and I'm happy to open the floor to your own interpretation. Thus far I've got a diverse cast of existing characters cast, though I've not heard many in the Asiatic or South American regions, and would also be interested to hear other accents from Europe or Oceania. VERGIL / THE SUPERINTENDENT / QUICK TO ADJUST [Voice Impression: Joseph Staten]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

The Superintendent is the artificial intelligence system that governs and runs basically all of the smart devices in the city of New Mombasa; phones, garbage trucks, cash machines, medical depots, personal vehicles and public transport, and more.

Vergil is a subroutine built within that system by the AI's creator in order to keep an eye on his daughter for him, this subroutine takes on an interesting personality as a result, and it uses the limited vocabulary of the cities various departments in order to communicate.

Quick to Adjust is an alien bio-supercomputer that finds itself in the data center and downloads the AI and the subroutine into itself, thus essentially amalgamating all three into one entity.

Since then Vergil has learnt to use a tablet to communicate and likely uses the very same language system the city previously operated under.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

I would love to be able to include Vergil in my film, especially if I can bring back the vocal editing and the quirky lines he uses to get his point across. This will mean voicing a variety of simple day-to-day signage, announcements, automated messages and more.

I think it could also be an interesting addition to be able to experiment with different languages, as I'm sure a futuristic AI system would be able to operate in numerous other dialects and Vergil might find it entertaining to throw a few of those lines in.

POLICE COMMISSIONER KINSLER [Voice Impression: John Patrick Lowrie]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

In the audio log drama that takes place within Halo 3 ODST, which takes heavy inspiration from Dante's Inferno, Kinsler would be the representation of wraith. He is a corrupt opportunist and a villain in the story to be certain. Initially he attempts to force himself on Sadie, until his driver intervenes, beyond that point he turns to vengeance, seeking them out with intent to execute them. His final goal emerges as he discovers the existence of Vergil and realises he could conceal the evidence of his crimes and be hailed a hero of the conflict if he captures Vergil himself. However he meets his end in a brutal way at the hands of an angry mob of civilians. The story is overall quite dark, but it is designed to delve into the darkest possibilities during the chaos of invasion, and as mentioned before pay close homage to Dante's Inferno.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

Kinsler will make an appearance in the film due to his involvement in Dr Endesha's fate and his intent to capture Vergil. However, he will likely have the smallest role aside from the corrup cop listed beneath this one as he is both introduced and dies within Sadie's story, thus making it impossible for me to further his inclusion. However, he is still an important role and I am interested to see if anyone is able to achieve it.

OFFICER CASSIUS the Corrupt Cop

Official Depiction Overview [How he is presented in the canonical work]:

This officer, which is actually unnamed so I took the liberty of naming him, was sent into the sublevels with a squad of other officers to confirm the death of an important science officer. In doing so he convinces the Rookie to help push further into the facility towards his objective by concealing his true intentions, that is until Vergil the city AI itself steps in and helps Rook connect the dots. He then stupidly attempts to pick a fight with the heavily armoured expert special-forces trooper he brought along and pays the price for it. Rookie is then able to listen to the final audio log of the story and learn of Dr Endesha's fate, as well as discover the truth about Vergil and the aliens.

Our Depiction Overview [How he will be presented in our film]:

SCIENCE OFFICER 1 [Male or Female]:

Our Depiction Overview [How they will be presented in our film]:

These science officers will both be characters created for the purpose of the film. In official media, science officers come in all shapes and sizes and they certainly need to be well versed in some pretty complicated futuristic technology. I wish to avoid stereotypes just as much as I want to avoid AI (which is completely avoid btw), so I am hoping to hear from anyone who would like to audition for this role, especially if you're able to do accents or alternate languages and can throw in under-breath curses in your native tongue during intense scenes or when frustrated a test isn't working.

The Gravemind (Multiple Voice Actors/Actresses Together)
open

VOICES OF THE GRAVEMIND (MULTIPLE) [Male/Female]:

Official Depiction Overview [How it is presented in the canonical work]:

The Gravemind is the amalgamated mind of every living thing assimilated by the Flood; The all-consuming corrupted-DNA parasite spreading its tendrils across the Halo universe.

In Halo, the Gravemind physically appears only in Halo 2, as pictured in this role. However, we have seen Proto-Graveminds appear throughout Halo, including in Halo CE and in Halo Wars. Additionally, we can hear the Gravemind's voice torment Master Chief throughout the Halo 3 campaign.

The Flood separates itself from other zombie or infection entities in media with its vast intelligence, the thing that makes it most scary is its decisions to ally with or assist the protagonists in preventing the Covenant's use of the Halo Rings, which would destroy the Flood, or more accurately, its food source.

It speaks in poetic ways and boasts a "wisdom" fitting for something that had thus far absorbed the bodies and minds of countless humans and covenant alike, which makes it all the more terrifying.

Our Depiction Overview [How it will be presented in our film]:

During the sequence that begins our film, I hope to delve into Rookie's entire history, which includes some of the lesser known moments dotted through the lore. One such moment is mentioned only once in the Halo 5 limited edition dossiers included with the game; which are still canonical. The dossiers describe Buck's previous missions, including a mission to Voi in Kenya as part of a Flood containment protocol. With only this very brief information to go by and no other appearances of this operation in canon, we can only speculate and fill in some blanks ourselves.

Which is where the Gravemind's voice comes in I'd like it to be clear what part of the story this segment of the flashback depicts, and while I do have some VAs already voicing some Marines and pre-mission chatter, I think it would be fitting to include the Gravemind calling out one last time.

How It Could Sound:

The clip I'll provide here showcases the Gravemind at its full strength, depicted as a colossal snakelike creature, its voice deep and fleshy and scaled to its size: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSKXOuzY3lY

As mentioned above, the Gravemind speaks in rhyme and metaphor, with a slowness and intent that chills the spine.

The Gravemind in its official depiction is voiced by one VA, and what a performance he delivers.

But I have a creative plan in mind, I would like to make our depiction of the Gravemind, as brief as it may be, a combination of voices all speaking in chorus.

This will mean that when the time comes, I may request all members of the voice cast to add their voice to the song of the Gravemind.

However, I will also need someone to provide the primary voice with all its bass and depth, as well as perhaps its gross fleshiness. So this listing is now open as I'm keen to hear what you guys can do!

Good luck to everyone and thanks for your interest!

Covenant Prophet/Prophetess of Neglect (Male/Female)

COVENANT PROPHET/PROPHETESS OF NEGLECT [Male or Female]:

Official Depiction Overview [How he/she is presented in the canonical work]:

Throughout Halo the Covenant have been led by Heirarchs of the San'Shyuum species, referred to as Prophets. Three of which led the Covenant until its collapse in Halo 3. However, prior to and since then, members of the prophet leadership have had roles beyond what we see in the games.

Our Depiction Overview [How he/she will be presented in our film]:

The Prophet/Prophetess of Neglect will be one created for the purpose of the film, though the reason is to connect the film to more points in the timeline. One of these events is called Operation: Kinetic Storm, it is mentioned only once in Halo and that mention occurs in the Halo 5 limited-edition dossiers in a list of previous missions Buck undertook. Due to it being nestled in between the other Alpha-Nine missions it makes sense this one would involve the whole squad too, which would include the Rookie. The operation involved strike and reconnaissance missions in the disputed space regions, and likely against an unidentified target, this prophet will be that target.

How He/She Sounds

I will be looking for more of a wise elder voice for this character, but I am completely open to anyone trying out this role. I am especially keen on it possibly being a female role, since Prophetess' are not explored very much in the story.

As potential inspiration I've included two links to videos that showcase the voices of two primary Prophets appearing in the games, though again I'm happy for you to create your own interpretation.

COVENANT VOICES (Brutes / Elite / Jackals / Grunts) [Male/Female]:

Our Depiction Overview [How they will be presented in our film]:

This role is an extra role to add more vocal types to the Covenant in my film. I have a voice actor already who's been able to produce a number of voices, in particular some pretty spot on Elites and Brutes, though I would absolutely be down to hear auditions from anyone who thinks they'll be able to achieve some solid interpretations of any the various Covenant enemies to create a little more variety.

How They Could Sound:

Here I've included a video which provides a selection of voicelines from Brutes, Grunts and Elites (There are a few other characters at the very end but the main section of the film covers these three. The video is also timestamped and segmented so that you'll be able to find each one)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Tr3i5MH27U

(side note: bare in mind, the above video contains some of the rarer / funnier lines enemies can shout, so they may not be a completely accurate reflection of their more common behaviours)

For these roles I definitely think it would be advised to take a listen, as ensuring that we achieve a faithfully adapted sound is a big priority in order for the result to be successful. But! Once you've gotten a solid understanding of the vibe of each species some variation is totally okay!

I've also mentioned in this role that I'm open to both Male and Female, we somewhat rarely see or hear female Covenant enemies and I'd like to rectify that. The time my film is set in is post-Covenant collapse, so its the perfect point in the timeline to see some very unique combinations of characters free from the structure of the Prophet Heirarchs.

BRUTES:

I've provided some more samples of how Brutes sound in the games here;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T87mMvs2AQ

Brutes are most typically, well, brutish. Very heavy voices with a sluggish, gravelly nature. Their lines often involve them threatening to eat their foes, or tear them limb from limb. They are the heavy-lifters of the Covenant and are coded that way in all their vocal interpretations.

ELITES:

I've provided some more samples of how Elites sound in the games here;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lys83EjzqnQ

Elites have quite the close sound to Brutes, however they are more agile, honourable, and graceful. They were most often the squad leaders until the Brutes took their place, and they were tactical, intelligent and even at times merciful.

GRUNTS:

I've provided some more samples of how Grunts sound in the games here;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nZXE9GkvWM

Grunts are the runts of the litter, they are easily terrified, make jokes to pass the time, and are overall incredibly silly compared to the rest, and we love them for it. Their voices are higher pitched and modulated by their methane-tank masks, giving them this funny and chaotic vocalisation.

JACKALS:

I've provided some samples of how Jackals sound in the games here;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wumEKfZs4Kg

Jackals are usually snipers or defensive cover, they are contracted by the Covenant rather than invested in the cause. Typically though they retain an inability to vocalise human words and often sound a lot more alien than the others. But it would be interesting to hear some attempts at recreating them as they are a pretty important part of Halo and it would be nice to include them in some way.

Besides these main factions there are a few others, but those are also usually more animal vocalisations than human speech, and therefore could be recreated in other ways. If you read this, have played the games, and think you can have a crack at doing them I'm more than happy to accept, but I'm sure I'd be able to figure something out myself as well.

I look forward to hearing your auditions!!

In addition to the many voice-roles, I am very much open to hearing from anyone who may be interested in composing for the film!

I realise this site is mostly for casting of acting roles, but it absolutely would not be a Halo film without a high quality soundtrack.

So far I have contacted an up-and-coming garage rock band and they still seem keen to create a credits track for the film. Additionally, I've also been in talks with a few Saxophone players who are set on taking part in a saxophone solo for one of the somber moments in the movie.

However, while I definitely would like to try my hand at composing myself, I lack the longterm skill thusfar to produce something of great quality and would have a long way to go. As such I would be looking for someone who has a deep understanding of especially very somber and reflective musical pieces and would be keen on entering talks with me about what kinds of feelings I'd like to envoke with your music!

Excited to hear from you!

I am opening this role because while I know I will likely be able to figure out a majority of the post production in the sound design department, it would also be nice to be able to lighten the load I'm taking on.

The role would likely involve receiving the audio files for the intro sequence and piecing them together into a coherent audio-drama-esc scene, preferably complete with sound effects and cleaning up the files.

A majority of the files I've received thus far are in prime condition I would say, and I will try to ensure that the initial quality of any recordings is of a level that would make editing lighter work.

I am happy to discuss in detail further with anyone who finds this role and is keen on the position.

NOTE: The tagged/preferred software is included solely in order to find audio engineers more effectively, I have no real preference on the software used as long as the result is able to be achieved!

[The following section can be safely ignored if you only wish to know your own role in the film, however this will give you a good thorough knowledge of the character the film will be centered around, without the need for your own research, if you would like to know more. Additionally, included within this character bio is custom lore I've added to link my film into whats already been established, so if you feel anything seems out of place I'm also open to criticisms/advice!]

Character Bio (The Rookie):

Jonathan Doherty, nicknamed "The Rookie", is a Lance Corporal and ODST of the UNSC Marine Corps and fought during the Human-Covenant war and post-war years. Born in Crisium City, Naniwa on Luna, where he lived until enlisting in the Marine Corps in 2547, the Rookie was deployed during many offensives against the Covenant, including the Battle of New Jerusalem, the Raid on Mount Haven, and the Battle of New Mombasa on Earth. During this time, he worked his way up the ranks from Private First Class in New Jerusalem to Lance Corporal and member of Alpha-Nine, a squad of elite ODSTs led by Gunnery Sergeant Buck in the Battle for Earth.

Prior to his assignment with Alpha Nine, the Rookie was pulled aside by Admiral Heisenberg of the UNSC Say My Name. During this discussion he would be promoted to Lance Corporal and informed of his reassignment to Alpha-Nine. However, after donning a spare set of ODST armour that didn't fit quite right and dropping from the Say My Name hovering over New Mombasa, the Rookies drop pod was hit by Private Michael Crespo's pod and spiraled out of control into the occupied city.

After six hours unconscious in his crashed pod and many more fighting in the city, discovering clues about his units whereabouts, and being guided by the Superintendent city AI to find audio logs about Sadie, an important civilian girl the AI had been protecting, the Rookie finally received a signal from Dare. With this information and a destination to find her, the Rookie headed underground beneath the city to reunite with his Captain.

There, he discovered that her true mission was to recover the Superintendent AI's data core, as the data it held about what the Covenant were digging for in the city was critical to the Office of Naval Intelligence. Before long, Dare and the Rookie discovered that one of the Huragoks, an alien bio-supercomputer, had betrayed the Covenant and downloaded the AI's data, including the subroutine named Vergil which was designed to protect its creators daughter, Sadie.

Quick to Adjust, the Huragok which combined the data with its own, would then be 'renamed' Vergil by the pair as they met up once more with Gunnery Sergeant Buck and fought their way out of the city ensuring they protected Vergil as best they could. The rest of the team, rounded up by Buck during the day, arrived to pick up the group rescuing their new alien pal from the clutches of the Covenant along with the valuable data he now held.

After some time with Vergil they found that coaxing the information out of him would not be as easy as they first believed. The team called upon the aid of Sergeant Major Avery Johnson, who provided the floating gasball with a sign of trust and an ultimatum, that he would help bring the Covenant that enslaved him to justice if Vergil told him what they were digging for. After a month of Johnson's interrogation, Vergil obliged, and the team discovered that the Covenant was digging to uncover an ancient Forerunner structure designed to lead to the Ark, which, if reached by the Covenant, could mean the end to all life.

However, now, it would seem this was not the only information harboured by Vergil, and due to the data being merged with himself, only an ONI operative could truly pry the highly classified data from his mind. As the war came to a close, in short order Buck and Alpha-Nine were redeployed for Operation: Joint Monitor, which consisted of biohazard containment in the Voi exclusion zone to ensure no Flood presence could be detected. Meanwhile, back on the Quito Space Tether terminus, Dare is asked to speak further with Vergil, whom by this point had learned to communicate using a tablet he modified himself.

During this time, Captain Dare was provided a cryptic message and a set of coordinates by Vergil, along with one word repeating on the tablet, "Rookie". Any further questioning led Vergil to respond only in strange three pointed symbols, which the team had also seen dotted around the city in New Mombasa. With no knowledge of what these symbols meant, and the tensions between ONI and UNSC commands growing stronger, Dare's report forced the ONI operatives to accept Vergils request and pull the Rookie aside during Operation: Joint Monitors debriefing.

The Rookie would be informed that UNSC involvement would deeply complicate their intelligence operation, and that simply pulling him from Alpha-Nine would lead the often insubordinate team into questioning that would raise far too many eyebrows at the UNSC.

This had to be deep cover.

Almost a year after the end of the Human-Covenant war, Bucks lovely vacation with Dare on planet Sundown, and an offer for Buck to join the SPARTAN-IV program, to which he refused, Dare assigned Buck and Alpha-Nine to a rebel suppression mission on planet Draco III.

However, during this same year, ONI had been preparing the Rookie for probably his greatest challenge yet, convincing his entire team, and the UNSC as a whole, of his untimely demise. To achieve this, ONI dusted off one of their old tricks, the same trick they used in the past when selecting promising children for their SPARTAN program. They would replace the Rookie with an identical flash-clone, whose death would convince the team without doubt that their comrade had fallen.

During the mission, this faux "Rookie" would be asked by Buck to secure their emergency exit, which was a perfect opportunity for the plan to take place. The Rookie's clone would get himself caught and his helmet removed so there could be no mistake. Captain Ingridson, the leader of the rebel front on Draco III, would then take the bait and execute him in a last ditch effort to make an impact for her cause, and for this she was killed herself.

The Rookie's death would later result in complications within Alpha-Nine, but one of the intended side effects would be that Buck reconsider his position on joining the SPARTAN-IVs.

Now that his team would be off his tail, and there would be no snooping UNSC personnel, the Rookie's mission would commence. Veronica Dare would oversee the mission and watch along using an F-99 Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle nicknamed "Wombat", while the Rookie would arrive on a presumed uninhabited planet and the location of Vergil's mysterious coordinates, unaware of the dangers that would await him...
