The Future: '54 (VA Motion Comic)
Project Overview
So... Hi, guys.
My name is Marrow, and I am the creator of "The FUTURE: '54"! This is a series I'm making, which visually-speaking, is going to be an animated series with motion comic animation.
As for the narrative, putting it briefly...
"Set in a dystopian 1954 on the floating city known as "The Future", the series revolves around three officers of the Protective Division of the Future (PDF), as they investigate the murder and abduction of two individuals related to the Future's creation. And as they investigate and more of the infrastructure of the Future falls, they discover dark secrets that threaten to send the city hurtling back to Earth."
While not being as serious, it is inspired by the Sin City movie and Watchmen.
Briefly covering the background to this series being a thing, it started off as an in-universe piece of media to multiple other concepts I created during my high school days, none of which stuck all that much conceptually. Then, I remembered this one day, finished the script, and now, here I am!
Anyways, I look forward to anyone that wants to join! Good luck!

A detective working for the Protective Division of the Future (the PDF). He’s a jaded soul trying to diligently solve this latest case while overcoming the returning memories of his wife’s death.

“He lays there, limbs splayed like a hieroglyph, with the back of his skull caved in, and a dried pool of blood coating a small area of the sidewalk. His eyes are wide, as if he died on impact. And it’s with this death that the Future was truly in danger for the first time.”
A rookie forensics officer working for the Protective Division of the Future (PDF). She is big into positivity, but struggles from a lack of understanding common social awareness outside of a work situation. (Think Lola Bunny from "The Looney Toons Show," but moderately less dumb.)

“Anyways, the office is busy as usual. Berk is walking around like he’s gonna poop on himself. From what I’ve learned, this can mean one of two things: either he ACTUALLY needs to poop… or something’s made him REALLY angry. …I’ll offer up a spoonful of Mixture Cholera Infantum, just in case.”
A patrol officer working for the Protective Division of the Future (PDF). He’s snarky and cynical, preferring to do anything but listening to orders. His family is the only thing keeping him on the path of righteousness.

“And in the center of the district, Vaporgras Filtration runs as the last line of defense against the whack temperatures. Or, at least it should be. Because the place exploded about ten minutes ago. Fuck, man! I called Berk like five minutes ago! Even if they raced here, it was gonna be another hour. I hate this!”
The commissioner of the Protective Division of the Future (PDF). He’s a ferocious yet ambivalent force of nature, who seeks the peace of his city more than anything else. (Has a J. Jonah Jameson type voice.)

“(annoyed yelling) What is it, Gil!? We already got a dead visionary on our hands, and I’ll be DAMNED if I let you take us on another impromptu goose chase!”
A Canadian riot squad officer working for the Protective Division of the Future (PDF). Described as being tough as rock, and kinda cocky. (Think Guy Gardner, specifically the GL:TAS/Superman 2025 versions.)

“(confident) Yes sir, Commissioner Berk sir!”
”Yeah, boys! Bring ‘em up! Briiiiing ‘em up!”
An Afro-Canadian riot squad officer working for the Protective Division of the Future (PDF). Described as being very cowardly.

”Riot squad, shields up!”
The cunning leader of “the Corpo Crushers,” a splinter faction of A.T.O.M known for secretly invading pro-Future companies and destroying them from the inside. (Think along the lines of Arkhamverse Nightwing.)

“Ah! Rogue! Glad you could make it! And you brought a little copper too, eh? (boisterous, three-syllable laugh) If I didn’t have a competent being like you with me, I’d probably be stuck with… (pause, then sighs disappointedly) Well, I’d be stuck with a thousand more of those idiots.”
Members of “the Corpo Crushers.” They are not very bright, and... VERY LOUD.

Roscoe’s younger sister, who inherits her late brother’s political campaign after his death. She is a haughty socialite who’s actively hostile towards worshippers of the Future while praising the ground her brother once walked on. Comes across as kind of a Karen, and can be very pious.

“(angrily) I don’t give a single SHIT if that man was married to the most influential family on the fucking planet, much less one on the Future! That man has crossed a LINE!”
Rhonda’s son, a timid man working as a smelter for the Future’s fuel systems. It’s obvious he cares deeply for his family, but his mother’s antics have him shaken.

“Yes, we know… Yeah honey, it’s a real shame that your dad has lost his partner… Honey, we don’t know that. Jack’s probably–... (sighs, before wimpishly saying) Yes, honey… See you soon…”
The mayor of the Future and the only functioning brain cell of the main family, he’s overworked from dealing with both the population he’s in charge of leading, as well as his childish in-laws.

“It is now up to us, the current stewards of this great city, to ensure that his legacy continues. And as your current mayor, I, Richard Gertrude, am committed to carrying his torch of principles, ensuring that the Future remains a beacon of progress and hope for all. So let us honor his memory by continuing to navigate the challenges ahead and build upon the strong foundation laid by giants like Roscoe. Together!”
(Pronounced "vapor-GRAH") The current CEO of Vaporgras Filtration, a company responsible for keeping the Future's atmosphere breathable. Like his dad, he's pretty reclusive, but he can become very confrontational and egotistical if pushed to his limits. For now though, he's kinda pathetic.

“…and it seems like this morning’s visit was only the first stop in current mayor Richard Gertrude’s reelection campaign. If successful, he would become the first mayor to run for a third term. And given his positive reception amongst the populace in his last two terms AND his connections to the greatest corporation in the Future…”
"…the population agrees… the Future truly is safe with Gertrude."
A Jewish-Germanic female scientist from the late 19th-early 20th centuries, who acts as the poster child of the Future. She goes missing prior to the start of series, but she has a daughter created through unknown means. (She speaks very similarly to Stella Greybur from "Poppy Playtime.")

“This is a Carbon Converter. Using a specially-designed carbon vacuum developed by Dr. Felders, at least five layers of Vaporgras-grade filtration, and a patented super-sublimation chemical courtesy of Dr. Cambert (pronounced cam-BEAR), the Carbon Converter is able to turn carbon gas into a reusable diesel-type fuel source. Think, we can continuously reuse the fuel we consistently put out.”
