The Friend and the Foe

The Friend and the Foe

Project Overview

Hello! I’d like some voices and helpers for a relatively small project I’m working on. More about it below.

I’d like to make an animation out of a story I wrote. I wrote it quite a while ago, but I just recently turned it into a script.

The basis of the story is this:

The main character, Terra, likes sword fighting. She then meets the second main character, Kai, and they end up fighting together and training with each other. Kai then gets kidnapped, and it’s up to Terra to save him.

The thing with this story is that both characters end up as elementals. There are three; fire, snow, and water. This plays a key role in the plot of the story.

Note to voice actors- please be comfortable making a few battle noises! The story revolves around fighting, and it only makes sense to have you make those sounds. I’d like you to be able to do them without sounding completely ridiculous.

Also, please please have a professional setup to record on! I want high quality recordings, none off phones or computers. It would also make me more likely to choose you if you have some experience in the field of voice acting, and know how to make a character into something fabulous.

Note to everyone- Please have an email so I can contact you.

I currently have one story scripted, but in the future, I am hoping to write multiple sequels and parts to add on.

Thanks!

Terra is the main protagonist in the story. She’s been sword fighting for a while, but the introduction of Kai (the other protagonist) makes everything better for her. Kai gets kidnapped, but she goes and saves him, becoming an elemental (water) along the way.

Terra is a generally confident and brave girl. She’s a straight to the point sort of person. Often taking other people’s troubles into her own hands, she’s not afraid to say what she means, unless under extreme pressure (which doesn’t happen often!).

  • (For this line, she’s meeting Kai, and she’s unsure of how to act around him, and if he’s someone that she can trust.)

“Well. That’d be great, but uh… who are you?”

  • (This line is where Terra is talking to Kai about her new powers, as well as how it wasn’t hard to save him. Her goal is to flatter Kai, but she gets excited about her powers at the end.)

“Yep. It wasn’t all that hard, plus my new powers are sooo cooool! But hey, now you get to help me learn my water powers!”

  • (Here, she’s talking to Kai’s kidnapper, not afraid to make her mad. She is completely prepared to fight for Kai.)

“Yes. And if you don’t let him go, I’ll be forced to take him myself.”

Kai is another protagonist. He finds Terra, and they fight together, and become good friends. Kai is the snow elemental. He gets kidnapped in the story (by his grandmother!), but Terra comes to his rescue.

Kai is an adventurous and ambitious person. He’s always looking for ways to make himself or others better, and he accepts the way others feel instead of trying to change it. He’s extremely awkward and shy in emotional situations, but not even that can distract him from saving the ones he loves.

  • (In this line, Kai is showing his powers to Terra. He’s unsure of how she’ll react, and that shows in the way he speaks. It’s a tricky topic for him to speak of, his powers, one of the things that can make him snap into awkwardness.)

“I’m… I have… look. It’s easier to explain without words.”

  • (This line is where Kai’s trying to improve Terra’s technique. He’s saying this to help her, but it may come off slightly rude (not too much) as he has a little trouble conveying his emotions properly.)

“See, you aren’t understanding the right arm movements. You seem to be practicing too much on the lower body, when the most important part is your arms.”

  • (Here, he’s still in disbelief that Terra went all that way to save him. He’s also awed about her new powers, but he’s mostly focused on how much Terra cares about him.)

“I still can’t believe you went through all that trouble for me…”

Lin

Lin is an elf that Terra comes across when she’s finding Kai. Lin is one of the most popular elves in the village, and he’s eager to help Terra acquire powers.

Lin is a very, very excited person. Nearly anything gets him worked up, and he is just so happy about everything! Lin is prone to laughing in the middle of sentences out of excitement. His mood can switch in the blink of an eye, though, usually switching from excited to SUPER DUPER EXCITED!

Lin is indeed an elf. But please, when you voice him, don’t make him sound too ridiculous. Elves have naturally semi-high voices in this universe, and maybe slightly nasally as well. If you can pull off a character voice, that’s great! I just don’t want him sounding like a drunk guy on helium.

  • (This line is one of the few examples where Lin isn’t super crazy. He was just at work, and when Terra bothers him, it gets him mad. Lin can’t get very mad though, so it sounds mostly neutral.)

“Yes? Miss, calm down. We’re very busy-”

  • (Lin gets to be an announcer for a battle, and that makes him very excited. He tries to sound professional, but he can’t do it all that well.)

“Welcome to the Elf Battle (laughs) for the Power of the Elements! Our fighter today is Terra. Terra, are you ready?”

Nadi is the elder elf. He battles Terra, and if Terra wins, she gets powers. Nadi has been training his whole life, and is very good at sword fighting.

Nadi is a silent but deadly sort of elf. He doesn’t talk much, and when he does, it’s almost always during or before battle. I’d like it if you could make Nadi sound slightly old, but not too much. Nadi is also a quiet character, so make sure to reflect that.

Nadi is indeed an elf. But please, when you voice him, don’t make him sound too ridiculous. Elves have naturally semi-high voices in this universe, and maybe slightly nasally as well. If you can pull off a character voice, that’s great! I just don’t want him sounding like a drunk guy on helium.

  •  (Here,he’s sort of trash-talking Terra before the fight.)

“Don’t be so sure about that.”

  • (This line is where Nadi is accepting his defeat.)

    “You win this time…”

Adeena

Adeena is the antagonist. She kidnaps her grandson, Kai, and almost kills him and Terra. Adeena is also the fire elemental.

Adeena is evil. She speaks often with snarky notes, and she can and will tell you all your faults. She hates Kai because he got powers as well, and she wants to be the only elemental on Earth.

Adeena is a generally oldish lady, old enough to be a grandmother. She doesn’t sound like it, though, she sounds like someone in their 40’s or 50’s. Don’t make her sound like a old grandma in a nursing home, please.

  • (In this line, Adeena is laughing at Terra for wanting to save Kai. She is almost surprised that Kai has made a loyal friend.)

“You think that little boy is worth SAVING?”

  • (Here, Adeena threatens to kill Kai. This sentence has menace, but also fear. Even if she wants to kill Kai, it scares her to want to do it.)

“Take a step closer, and your little friend is gone.”

  • (This line is where Adeena discovers Terra came. She’s angry that someone came to interrupt her plans, but also curious as to who.)

    “Who are YOU?!”

Narrator

The narrator is well, a narrator. He/she speaks during intermissions, where things happen but aren’t directly in the script. The narrator basically tells the events that happened.

I’d like the narrator to be funny. Finding places in his/her speech that could be said sarcastically, or as a joke, etc. would make it so much better.

The narrator is generally calm, but also lively, as he/she is telling part of the story. So overall, the narrator is just a storyteller who tells only a bit of the story.

  • (In this line, I’d like you to say “nobody was kidnapped” in a sarcastic way, as if it was ridiculous for them to get kidnapped in the first place.)

“After that, everything ended up well. Nobody was kidnapped, and Kai and Terra continued sword fighting, as well as being the best of friends.”

  • (Here, the narrator is telling about Terra’s journey. I’d like you to sound hopeful, just like the character the narrator is talking about is hopeful.)

“Since Kai’s capture, Terra has been searching all over the forest for him. There’s been no sign yet, but she hasn’t lost hope.”

Elf Extras

These are just extra elves who live in the elf village, going along their normal business when Terra comes a long.

Feel free to sound any way you want… you’re probably just going to be in the background here, but also somewhat important for the plot.

I'll accept nearly anybody who auditions for this, as I'll need many people.

  • (you’re just walking home from work, making occasional talk with others.)

"It was a rough day in the mines today."

"Hey, buddy! Nice to see you!"

    "Did you hear the news?"

    "Wanna meet up later?"

    "I've got to go now."

  • (Here, you’re cheering for Terra, the winner of the battle. It’s not every day one of these fights happen, so it’s a very exciting event.)

*say something similar to “Woo-hoo!” or “Yeah” or just any sort of cheering in general.*

Yep, I’d like this animated. I’d like someone who’s really good at action, because in the script, there’s a lot of sword fighting, flying, and action in general. I don’t want to sound unrealistic, but as I don’t know a lot about animation, maybe you could get it done in a month or two?

Yep, this’ll have a video. I basically need someone who can put the voices where they should be on the animation, and make the video look spot on! Maybe even add sound effects, if I choose to have them.
