The Crimson Witch and The Alabaster Dancer (SVA THESIS FILM)
Project Overview
The Crimson Witch and The Alabaster Dancer is my Senior Thesis film for the School of Visual Arts. It is a passion project of mine that is the culmination of years of development. Inspired by the fairytale style of Revolutionary Girl Utena, it tackles queer, specifically trans, issues and the importance of identity and reclaiming one's autonomy. CW&AB is my attempt to subvert the trope of queer villains in media, celebrating rebellion and overcoming oppressive systems.
Rian is the lead role of CW&AB. He is a trans masculine witch who is returning to his old home to confront apparitions of his past. This means I am looking for a trans masculine person who is willing to and comfortable performing both with and without voice training.
- Rian was raised in an aristocratic family, so pre transition he may have a posh accent. He may have lost it over the years.
- Rian is a headstrong and stubborn person, willing to rebel against tradition.
- He was raised to learn ballet, so he may have a touch of elegance in his voice.
Do what you best believe suits the character!
If you are able to provide a child voice, it is recommended you look into the role for Child Rina.

(Pre transition - Emotion: Indignation) Well maybe I wouldn't have had to resort to it if I had just been TAUGHT!
(Post transition - Emotion: Pity and Ache) Oh... You poor thing.
(Post transition - Emotion: Righteous Fury) MY NAME IS RIAN!
Child Rina appears briefly in a memory with her mother.
- She is a meek girl that longs for the attention her brother receives.
- She enjoys dance but feels pressured into it.
- She is raised in an aristocratic family, so she may have a posh accent.
If you are transmasculine, it is recommended you look into the role of Rian/Adult Rina.

(Emotion: Excitement) Look at me, Mother!
(Emotion: Curious and Hopeful) Mother, when will I learn magic like Fion? (Pronounced Fee-on)
(Emotion: Dejected) Oh... Thank you, Mother.
The Mother of Rian and Fion is a warm and gentle woman at a first glance, but she has clear favoritism towards her son Fion.
- She is a fallible woman, upholding tradition when it harms her other son.
- She is an aristocrat, so she may have a posh accent.

(Emotion: In Admiration) Isn't your brother so talented, dear?
(Emotion: Hesitant) Ah, well... Magic does not suit a girl like you.
Fion (Fee-on) is a conceited man taking on the tradition of being the family magic user. He has a desire for control and possession over his younger brother Rian, refusing to acknowledge him for who he truly is. Over the course of the film, he becomes physically monstrous to reflect his obsession with the "perfect" past.
- Fion really plays up his "older brother" superiority.
- He's a bit of a creep.
- Once he becomes a beast, his voice sounds aged and withered.
- You may need to provide owl shrieks.
- He is an aristocrat, so he may have a posh accent.
