The City of Dawnstar (Skyrim Mod)

The City of Dawnstar (Skyrim Mod)

Project Overview

What is this project?

This project is a mod for the popular RPG game, Skyrim. For those familiar, the project is a mod based around reworking the vanilla city of Dawnstar into a much more thriving, lively perception of the city of labor.  The group primarily assisting the creation is TSVA (The Skyrim Voice Alliance), the group behind Ravengate, VIGILANT and UNSLAAD.
VIGILANT Voiced - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/83876/?
UNSLAAD Voiced - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/11896/?
Ravengate - Coming Soon!

How long is the final product?

The final product introduces a few hours of light-hearted content in terms of quest, and a ton of new NPC's with unique personalities and intriguing backstories. You can discover the gruesome fates of the old Empire Company, get high with a Khajiit and a few groupies, or getting into a massive and hectic drunken bar fight.

What is the time frame for when the project will be completed?

Skyrim mods have, and always will have, and eternal notoriety of have terrible, and unreliable deadlines/time frames for progress. I suspect we won't be any different.

Where do I go to review my auditions, talk with other voice actors, and check with progress on the mod?

Glad you asked, person-who-is-not-me! We have a server group known as The Skyrim Voice Alliance you can join freely! https://discord.gg/8CSuMZk

One of three khajiit siblings who works in the silver mines and is on the run from debt. She is quiet and sad but friendly to the player. Khajiits typically have higher pitched voices that sound like a cross of Russian and Persian. Feel free to get creative!

  • Player - It is strange to see a khajiit within one of Skyrim's city walls.

Ashiika - It is also strange to be talked to for once! And from a traveler... I wish we still caravanned... Our people are born nomads. I greatly miss the golden dunes…

  • Player - You miss your homeland?

Ashiika - There is much hurt in this land. When our debt is paid and our gold is flowing, we shall return to Elsweyr, and again walk the sands of Ne quin-al.

An eccentric tailor with a horrible taste in fashion. He runs the shop in the wealthy district of Dawnstar. He has a medium to higher range pitch and has a Nordic accent. Nordic accents can range from almost any Northern-European countries, so you can audition in Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Icelandic, or just general Scandinavian. He is well spoken, flamboyant, loud, arrogant, and friendly.

  • Player- Erm.. why are you staring at me?

Asrik - Forgive me, I am just admiring your tasteful attire. It is good to find another in this city who has a sense for fashion and an eye for a truly alluring visage.

  • Player - Erm, thanks... it's function over fashion though really.

Asrik - Even better! One must go through great ordeals in order to appear extraordinary and desirable. Comfort and style rarely go hand in hand. Take my attire for example…

  • Player- It's very... ventilated?

Asrik - Precisely! But alas, at the cost of comfort. My assets may be frozen, but my outfit glows with taste and appeal. if you envy it, I can make you one!

  • Player - What’s it like working in the mines?

Arvelyn - You had best leave us be stranger... I mean no ill will by it, there is just a reason we keep to ourselves here... I suggest you do the same.

The mistress of a 'Boarding House' which is actually a very unprofessional brothel. She is greedy which results in her not keeping the place clean. She has a witchey, rough voice. She is sarcastic, snide, opportunistic, and has a dark sense of humour. Wood Elves typically have North American, English, Irish, or Scottish accents.

  • Player - Is this some kind of Inn?

Auria - Soft beds with less mites than a ship, cheap ale, cheaper food, and the occasional wench. You don't look like a sailor whelp, who are you?

  • Player - I'm just a traveller, have any spare rooms for the night?

Auria - Ha! I'm afraid we don't do rooms here your lordship. I can get you a bunk below, or a bedroll in the loft if you’re even lower on gold than you look.

  • Player - I'll take one of the bedrolls up top.

Auria - That's 3 gold then. If you need food, ale, or whoring ask one of the girls. If your bed is unsatisfactory, tough luck, you've already paid.

    Player - I'll have a bed below.

Auria - Those are 5 gold. Ask one of the girls if you’re thirsty, lonely or whatever else. If you find vomit on your pillow, just flip it over. Sleep well!

Owner and Brewmaster of the Old Brewery. He brews exceptional ale. He also runs pit fights in the brewery after working hours. He is gruff, proud, and serious with a nordic accent. Nords typically have Scandinavian accents or other Northern-European accents.

  • Player - What sort of stuff do you brew here?

Brindel - Our 'stuff' is the crispest ale that'll ever wet your whistle, Dawn's glory. We've been brewing it here for almost three hundred years.

  • Player - What makes Dawn's glory so special?

Brindel - It's made with tundra barley and frost Miriam, which is native to Skyrim. The Miriam is a delicacy in the southern provinces. They say it keeps the northern cold with it wherever it goes, even in the Summerset isle.

  • Player - There's smears of... blood all over the place... what else goes on here?

Brindel - Fights, pit fights. We do bets if you’re interested, or I can arrange for you to participate if that's more your forté. But I won't lie, it gets ugly!

One of the City guard. He is lazy, superstitious, drinks a lot, and doesn't do anything unless his commander tells him to. He is assertive and superstitious. He has a soft cockney accent.

  • Player - What's inside this house?

Dorik - Move along stranger. This is Lucas Farro's house, or was his. I'm protecting it from squatters and looters, not that they need keeping out…

  • Player - What happened to Lucas?

Dorik - He was executed a few months ago for the murders of six people. He seemed like a peaceful man. He didn’t seem like the murderous type, but I suppose real murderers never do.

  • Player - What will happen to the house now?

Dorik - I hope you're not interested in buying... There is something evil in this house. Some kind of curse. You see, the murders haven't stopped.

A seemingly devout priest of Zenithar, who is struggling to make the wayward townsfolk worship. He speaks clearly but quietly. He is serious and monotone. He has a very slight hint of sinister intention in his voice. Bretons typically have North American, English, or French accent.

  • Player- I'm surprised to see a temple in this city... Does it get many devotees?

Eduard Mariette - Alas, Zenithar has very few devoted followers in this city and the other 8 gods have even fewer it seems. Dawnstar abandoned divine worship long ago.

  • Player - I can see that…

Eduard Mariette - They instead choose the path of the wicked by turning to skooma, drink, or flesh. I must ask, do you walk the path of sin or the path of the righteous?

  • Player - Tell me about Zenithar.

Eduard Mariette - Zenithar is the god of trade, commerce, and industry. Those who offer their worship towards him receive shrewd eyes and fruitful work opportunities.

A sturdy ship builder renowned throughout the empire for his fine ships. He is loud, friendly and proud. He is middle aged or old. His accent is Nordic, so Scandinavian or Northern European OR North American if you can really capture this character.

  • Player - You build ships here?

Falheim - Ships are always in need of both mending and building, so we're always making profit. We're building a ship currently. Do you want to inspect my handiwork?

  • Player- I'd love to have a look.

Falheim - Go downstairs and take the passage through the caves! You may as well saw up a few logs for the foreman while you're down there. Off you go now!

  • Player - Thanks, you sure no-one will mind?

Falheim - Of course! It’s right at the back of the Bitter-Tide's warehouse. If any of miserable old Thengar's boys gives you trouble, tell them I sent you.

Cook and co-owner of the Bloated Float. He is gruff but friendly enough. He is quick to take offense. He has a low and orcish voice which is almost a growl. He is a mixture of angry and friendly.

  • Player - So, you're the cook?

Gragon - Not the cook, the chef. If you have a problem with my eel pie then go eat that gray slop the Nords call food. You obviously have no taste for this exquisite dish.

  • Player - Calm down! I didn't mean to offend you.

Gragon - My apologies. I'm quick to take offense to criticism, even if it’s perfectly reasonable. Ormil is the peoples person on the float. I just make the food.

  • Player - How long have you and Ormil known each other?

Gragon - Since before we were born, my grandfather Graman worked as a bouncer for Ormil's father in the third age, and it's become our family tradition to work for his family ever since. We were once the toast of the Imperial City!

A criminal on the run who is selling horker meat on the docks. He is a very happy soul for a murderer. He is friendly, sarcastic, and amoral. Voice should sound deep, smooth, and clear.

  • Player - You’re a long way from Hammerfell, friend.

Jethro - You and me both! Dawnstar is full of outlanders and their all hungry for horker! That's why I'm here. That and being on the run for a few murders.

  • Player- … Did you say murders?

Jethro - Yes! Two servants and their master, and then an innkeeper while slipping into skyrim, but don't tell the Alik'r. Care for some horker loaf?

Oldest and leader of the dark elf cloister in town. He is wise in the ways of the world and trying to do the best by his people in Dawnstar's hard way of life. Malen is wise, world weary, slow to trust, and old. His voice should be English, Posh or Cockney, preferably Cockney.

  • Player - This is your home?

Malen - Not our real home. This place serves as a refuge for all Dunmer fleeing from the the ash and destruction that was once our land, Morrowind.

  • Player - The eruption of Red Mountain has displaced thousands it seems…

Malen - Yes, all of us who escaped Vvardenfell have been scattered across Tamriel. My kin ended up here in Dawnstar. I suppose there are worse places to be.

  • Player - I wouldn’t know. I’m new to Dawnstar.

Malen - A traveler? I hope this town can offer more welcome to you than us, Serah. Elven folk are not welcomed here, but neither are beast folk I suppose.

The feared and notorious pirate captain of the Almalexia's revenge. He 'protects' the ship trade all along the sea of ghosts and sinks any boats that don't pay. He is a born killer and leader with no emotion, morals, or remorse. He is cold, calculated, and intelligent. He is neither unfriendly nor friendly. He has a husky voice. The accent should be English or Cockney, preferably Cockney.

  • Player - Are you the captain of this ship?

Saryn Tythelis - Your assumption is correct. I can tell you're not from these parts just by looking at you, land lover. And I must admit, I'm very slightly curious.

  • Player - Curious? Why?

Saryn Tythelis - Because I can also tell you are a killer. It’s in the way you speak and move... You're a real murderer. Tell me, how many have you killed this week?

  • Player - Thinking about it, I really don’t know...

Saryn Tythelis - And what reason is there to? You fight, you kill, and you survive. For now anyway... My curiosity has been satiated. So farewell, I'm sure we'll meet again.

The lonely and mysterious lighthouse keeper. His family was lost and likely died while fleeing Morrowind, so he lives alone at the lighthouse, lighting it every day in hope his family will come back to him. A lizard of few words. He is quiet and reserved, and always looks sad. He is sad and bereaved. He is a closed book, but polite enough to talk. His voice should sound very raspy/gravelly.

  • Player - You’re the lighthouse keeper?

Sings-in-the-waves - I have kept Konin burning for many years now. It’s a thankless and wageless task, but most ships would struggle to navigate without my efforts here.

  • Player - No one pays you? How do you make a living?

Sings-in-the-waves - I earn my coin fixing nets and sails for the sailors, and catch fish to feed myself, but why I keep Konin burning without pay is my own business.

  • Player - These lighthouses have strange names.

Sings-in-the-waves - I believe the names come from an old Nord tale. I think they have something to do with those stones, which surround the braziers of the lighthouses.

A guard guarding a ship stuck up in the rocks in the Bitter-Tide warehouse. He is shady and obviously hiding something. He is wily, savvy, and untrustworthy. He has a smooth thuggish voice, and a Scandinavian/Northern-European accent.

  • Player - What’s this ship? Can i go in?

Sweet Tooth Fitch - It's unsafe for townsfolk. Falheim is looking at taking it down, but in the meantime we're keeping people from going in and causing a collapse.

  • Player - How did it get stuck up here in this cave?

Sweet Tooth Fitch - It was ages ago. A tidal wave hit the city and smashed everything in here. Whatever is left of this boat ended up getting stuck up here in the rocks…

  • Player - Nothing else?

Sweet Tooth Fitch - Everything else got sucked out afterwards. The ships, the people, the lot. That's enough talk though, move along now. I promise you won't regret it.

The ruthless and cold oldest brother of the wealthy Bitter-Tide family. He is said to have bought out or murdered every competitor in the northern seas. He has very little patience for anything or anyone. He is gruff and impatient, but intelligent and dangerous. He has a low Scottish voice.

  • Player - Are you in charge of the Bitter-Tide shipping company?

Thengar Bitter-Tide - All of it. Are you here for an order or collection? Or other business?

  • Player - I’m just looking around.

Thengar Bitter-Tide - If you have no useful intention here, I suggest you get out of my warehouse before my boys 'escort' you out. Or are you as stupid as you are ignorant?

  • Player - What if I were to have business with your company?

Thengar Bitter-Tide - I've already decided I don't like you, that I don't give a dog's hide what your business is, and that luckily I'm in a mood to let you leave unharmed.
