DANGANRONPA ULTRA:VIOLET

DANGANRONPA ULTRA:VIOLET

Project Overview

Basic Information

DANGANRONPA ULTRA:VIOLET will be a non-profit, full five-chapter fan project developed by Dizzi (@ruikasafixerr on Twitter), Lee (@youmademydawn09 on all platforms), and Zahra (@cocainia413 on Twitter). It is not at all officially affiliated with Kodaka or the original Danganronpa series. It focuses on 16 students, all trapped inside of a university. There is only one way out: to kill someone and get away with it.

The series will be told through a visual novel format with videos posted on YouTube. At the moment it is not fully voice acted, but this is subject to change.

Audition Information

Currently this is a short term role, but if reception is positive we may require you to return/reprise for more voice work. This can come in the form of a fully voice acted script, trials, and/or student interviews.

The age limit for this project is 15+, however there are a few characters that will require a higher age limit because of the lines said by their characters in non-voice acted sections.

Please provide your name, age (if -18 you can simply say “minor”), and Discord or Twitter username, and say your lines in ABCABC order.

NOTICE: For the roles where you are both a doctor and an extra, please do ABCABC Doctor first, then ABCABC for the extras. Thank you!

DANGANRONPA ULTRA:VIOLET deals with a lot of potentially triggering topics, typical of a Danganronpa fan series. All warnings for the original Danganronpa games will apply.  When casting comes out, we will ask any of the voice actors whether or not they are uncomfortable being associated with this character and they are completely free to decline.

Feel free to audition for as many roles you wish.

If you have any other questions, please contact faidflowright or ymmd09 on Discord.

Role assigned to: MadameMaxi

Esther is a very smart, kind girl. People tend to assume she’s ditzy because of her appearance,  but when they hear her speak, a lot of the time they’re blown away. She’s well put together, verbose, and talks with general confidence. She’s quite gentle with her tone and kind.

Esther’s voice would be at a balanced, medium female pitch, and is warm, gentle, but well put together and intelligent.

* A black voice actor would be preferred for this role!

  • “(Giggle) Aw, don’t say that. Here, let me see. What’s giving you trouble?”

  • “That… does that really make sense, though? I think we should look at the full picture before bulldozing through with theories that can’t be confirmed.”

  • “Oh? Look here. You can’t use the original equation for that one. You’re finding the velocity, right? That’s the first derivative. Ah- no, you don’t have to do all that! Just flip the exponent up. See? Easy! I knew you could do it!”

Role assigned to: Pyr0sity

Gotou is a cheery, upbeat, friendly boy. He’s always open to talk to other people and engage in conversation. He’s not the brightest and he recognizes that.

Gotou's voice is upbeat and teen/young adult male. His voice acting has a bit of leeway, so feel free to interpret the character as you wish!

  • “Welcome in! Are you new here? Sorry, sorry, I just haven’t seen you enter the shop before. We’ve got a large variety of meats that just got shipped in this morning, so you chose a perfect time to come in!”

  • “I mean… I did do the worksheet, just… well… It’s not my fault it’s gone! I was doing it outside, right, and there was this really cute dog that came up to me and her tail was wagging and she was super happy and- (Pause) I swear she actually ate my homework! I’m not lying!”

  • “Try to look on the bright side! I’m sure someone’s looking for us. We’re never going to get anywhere with a negative attitude, huh? Say it with me now!”

Voice Actor
Ito Souta

Role assigned to: Noah Manghir

Ito is the type of person that you can never truly tell if they mean what they’re saying. He’s very wordy, but at times spontaneously says something vulgar. You never know her intentions, and at times the meaning of her words barely make sense at all. Pretentious sounding.

Ito’s voice is androgynous with a masculine lean. His voice is smooth with a sort of sarcastic lilt. She sounds pretentious and demeaning.

Ito’s role is not age-restricted, however, the chances of you receiving the role are much higher if you are an adult (18+).

  • “Would you like a minute? It seems like you need it. You look like goddamn shit right now. A mess, if you will. (Pause) Sorry, did I say something abrasive?”

  • “I managed to overhear one of the other doctors call me three, so I could only assume I was next. You’ve all quite tickled my curiosity. Where could we possibly be?”

  • “Oh yes, my fans are just fanning about with excitement for my upcoming film. I’m also quite elated to release it. Will you be viewing it as well?”

Role assigned to: Rosalind B.

Ashigaka Fuyuki is a socially inept shut-in. He’s easily aggravated and has a tendency to interpret everything as a personal attack. Despite this, he can be rather passionate about his interests, with talking about these interests being one of the only times he isn’t either miserable or awkward.

Higher male voice, nerdy sounding but not too stereotypical. Needs to have a good emotional range.

Ashigaka’s role is 18+. By applying, you are agreeing that you are an adult.

  • “Y-You have it out for me! I know you do! This second-rate hentai manga protagonist is trying to outdo me at my own game! Hah! As if I’d let you tarnish the good name of The Girls at My School Laughed at the Color of My Underpants and Told Me To KILL MYSELF. Nobody appreciates peak literature anymore!”

  • “Hgnng-! There it is… whatever this is… you’re a level ten creep… I don’t like it at all… “

  • “(Shaky) L-Leave me alone… D-Don’t talk to me. I-I told you to LEAVE IT!”

Tsutsumi Sukai

Role assigned to: Rakumaroo

Tsutsumi is the average teenage girl... most of the time. She's got quite the mean streak and has no trouble making fun of other's looks, personality, and just about anything she can go after. She's incredibly dramatic and easily irritable. She often uses slang and doesn't speak with perfect grammar.

Her voice should be very girly and on the higher side. Think of the popular kid at school or an influencer. She is very confident in her words and has no problem cutting deeply.

This role will be 18+ due to some of the topics it handles and things she says.

  • “Hey, hey, everyone! A little bit of morning motivation: with enough hard work, you can do or look like or become anything you want to be. Dedicate yourself to your goals and you’ll see results. Of course, you gotta make sure you guys take care of yourselves too, okay? I love you all so so so much!”

  • “Oh my gooooosh, no one cares. Literally stop talking. Don’t you see literally everyone else falling asleep? ‘Cause you’re boring us to death!”

  • “You’re actually crazy if you think I’m saying that. There’s zero possibility you could ever get me to go on stage and embarrass myself in front of an audience with this shit. (Pause) I’m not ‘talking back’! I’m expressing my opinion! Free speech or whatever! Just- leave me alone!”

Role assigned to: GI4-VA

Unproductive as ever, Andou is the average frat guy. He spends most of his time with his friends or using AI to do his work. Despite his flaws, he's a generally friendly guy who wants the best for the people he loves. Andou is prone to anger, always rising to a challenge.

His voice is masculine, on the lower side, and monotone. He doesn't sound like he cares that much outside of when he's annoyed. Think of the most average guy you've met in class, and that's probably him.

  • “Uhh… the answer to number seven is… uhhh. Sorry, I got nothing. (Pause) Miss, there was a party last night. You can’t expect me to be present. I’ve got a pounding headache, man.”

  • “Yeah, my sister’s pretty weird. I don’t get all the… purple hair, black clothes shit. Whatever makes her happy. Just don’t want her to get bullied, I guess. Freshmen are rude as hell. Honestly though? Nothing can get worse than middle school. At least she’s out of there.”

  • “Can you stop acting like I killed your puppy or something? I dropped a glass. It’s not that big of a deal. I can clean it up. Are you gonna make me go through hazing again over some fucking glass shards?”

Role assigned to: Reese Hsiao

Quiet but confident, Takahashi is not afraid to argue with others when it's something she cares about. She's very deadpan and sarcastic, but her jokes and personality can come off as awkward or rude. She struggles a lot with tone, especially when she's trying to be genuine. She is extremely passionate.

Takahashi has a feminine voice, with a full, medium pitch. This one isn’t very strict, feel free to do whatever you think fits!

  • “No, she’s so weird. She literally got with her friend’s ex-boyfriend a week after they broke up and said she ‘didn’t owe her loyalty’. Like, yes you do? You were friends for three years?”

  • “(Frustrated) You have to pass the ball if you want to win the game! You can’t just stand there like a deer in headlights the second you get to the eight meter! Are you acting like you’ve never played the sport before on purpose or did you get a lobotomy over spring break, because there’s no way someone can regress this badly!”

  • “Um… I don’t really want to go, sorry. (Pause) Why are you getting mad at me? You asked me to go to the store and I said no. Why did you ask me if I had to go anyway?”

Role assigned to: Xihe

Han is a boy with a very comforting voice and presence. He’s sweet, blunt, and a little oblivious, but once you get him started on biology, he’s a wheel that won’t stop. Han speaks with a soft cadence, and is gentle. He speaks straightforwardly and curtly, without a lot of fancy words. He tends to speak more slowly unless it’s about a topic he’s heavily interested in. He can tend to get a little rambly and serious when speaking about the things he loves.

Han's voice is at a medium-male pitch. It should be soft and warm but firm and full. Please note that Han requires a large emotional range.

  • “I-I don’t really appreciate being spoken to like that. (Pause, sigh) No, I’m not mad. I just want you to be a little more respectful, okay?”

  • “You don’t need to worry. I’ve got it handled! Take a break, okay? I don’t want you to overwork yourself when we’ve got so many hands around to help.”

  • “Oh. The needle’s going to sting a bit when she first puts it in, but I promise it’ll subside fairly quickly. Though make sure you take care of yourself! While this is more of a long-term fix than taking the shot every month, the side effects can make you nauseous and drowsy after the dosage.”

Himizu Rion

Role assigned to: Vin and Vigor

A hedonist with an interest in anything that excites her. Himizu has that type of “star-power” that makes you feel drawn to her no matter what, and makes you want to seek her out, and her voice should reflect that. She has a burning passion for her music and can be considered a bright, fiery young woman.

Himizu has a gender-neutral voice with a feminine lean. It should at first be difficult to discern whether she is a man or a woman at first listen, but there should be that definitive feeling that it belongs to a woman, or a more feminine man. Her speaking voice is husky, low, and sweet. Think sultry and nice. Like someone wishing you well, super warm, attractive. Her speaking style/pattern is undoubtedly very pretty, but  gets looser and sharper and wilder the more she lets go.

Note that Himizu’s diction is generally very clear and clean.

Himizu’s role is 18+. By applying, you are agreeing that you are an adult.

  • “...And that’s supposed to mean something to me? I don’t know you. You should probably stop trying to contact me. Do you like pissing me off or something?”

  • “Haha! All in a day's work. Not everyone can wake up and be Himizu Rion, after all. (Pause) Hm? I’m lucky I was born with it? Maybe. But that just makes you sound awfully bitter, no?”

  • “It’s a pleasure to meet you. I couldn’t see it from up on the stage, but you’re a real head-turner. I guess my luck hasn’t run out yet, hm?”

Striving for a better future, Matsuo knows exactly what to say and how to say it. He is extremely articulate and persuasive, although he doesn't always use his extensive vocabulary for good, having a tendency to believe his intelligence is superior to others. Matsuo is an extremely impressive speaker.

His voice is masculine, with a medium to low pitch. Correct and good pronunciation and enunciation is very important for this character.

  • “Yes, yes, I hear you. I can assure you, I am working on precisely what you’ve told me to. I haven’t laid a finger on your slides! Would you stop accusing me of such things?”

  • “Do you mind… telling me, step-by-step, how you came to that conclusion? Truly, I’m curious. I had no idea it was possible for someone to even arrive there from your starting point. I’m almost impressed, to be quite frank.”

  • “Wh- I- Stop! No, no, no! Absolutely not! I refuse to say that in public! Do you know how mortifying that is?!”

Uchiyama is an athletic girl that loves to hang out with her friends and participate in her hobbies. She tends to brush off issues and act awkwardly in uncomfortable situations.

Lower toned female voice.

  • “Yeah, yeah. I hear you, mom. You don’t need to tell me twice. I got it, I swear.”

  • “I get where you’re coming from. She wasn’t really being fair to you. But… I mean, does that mean you guys have to stop being friends…? It isn’t that big of a deal. You guys have been close since you were basically in diapers.”

  • “(Laugh) Stop it! I am not doing that. I won’t be embarrassing myself too badly today, thank you very much. My presentation was bad enough.”

Lee can often come off as extremely rational and calm, but they are generally a very sweet person who is fairly emotional. Lee's speaking tone is naturally blunt but not unkind. They speak casually and once they warm up to someone it’s a very easy back and forth. They’re generally a good conversationalist.

Lee has a rather completely gender neutral voice. If you had to pick, it would lean towards slightly masculine. If you need an example, I would think the utaite Miyashita Yuu (such as in Kuruoze and Wozwald), but their voice is less airy/more full. Lee's voice lends towards being warmer as well, and they have moments of both expressiveness or cold and callousness.

Lee is a character that requires quite a large range in emotional capability. Please be aware of this when applying.

  • “I’m… not scared. There’s nothing here that scares me. I’m sure you would feel the same way if you were me.”

  • “Hm? Because it calms me down. It’s a nice destressor and something to look forward to every couple of months. Besides: white tattoo ink doesn’t even last that long. These do.”

  • “(Chuckling lightly) I mean, yeah, it hurts. I got beat up. But it’s okay. I’m more happy that anyone else didn’t get more severely injured. Can you imagine how much more they’d bitch about it?”

Matsumoto-Torres has a soft higher-pitched female voice. You should also be able to voice-act crying well.

  • “I- My- Um. My name is Matsumoto-Torres Yua. I was told this is the audition room. (Under her breath) Please tell me that’s right. Oh gosh, I can’t do this… Ah! Uh! Yeah, I can- I can start now.”

  • “Well… I really don’t think that’s a good idea. She could fall from there, um, so. I- I know it looks good in the dance, but, uh, putting someone up that high is just really scary for them and a lot of pressure on everyone. I’m sorry.”

  • “(Crying) What did I do? Tell me how to fix it, please, I- I just-”

Mikah may not be much at first, but he’s a pretty smiler and he talks quite bluntly. He has a rather low but sweet voice and uses a casual tone when talking to most people. He knows how to switch on the big words and language mode though. He’s curt, and he often teeters between genuine and sweet, but also teasing. He has a very lovely laugh, and is an extremely charming individual whom most people enjoy the company of.

Mikah’s voice is a lower-male pitch voice. It is very sweet and pretty sounding, and he talks quite simply. His voice can be described as “lovely”, and he has a pretty laugh.

Please note that Mikah’s role requires a very large range in emotional capability. Be aware of this when auditioning.

Mikah’s role is 18+. By applying, you are agreeing that you are an adult.

  • “...Please don’t lie to me. I know you didn’t do the research right. I’ve double-checked it multiple times. Just… next time just be honest, okay? I won’t be mad. I just want to do the best that we can.”

  • “Sorry. Did that make you uncomfortable? (Pause) Ah, thank god. Tell me if I do anything that freaks you out, okay?”

Hirato is a sweet, excitable girl. She loves to rant and show off her knowledge. Her favorite thing is to help others and always wants to be of use. Full of optimism for the future, she's a hard-worker. She never curses and has very strong beliefs--which can lead her to being very stubborn.

Hirato's voice should be on the higher side and airy, but still bright. This role will most likely need a good emotional range.

  • “Well, no, actually, that’s not the point of the book. She represents his desire for wealth after growing up poor and everything he will do to achieve that–it isn’t a tragic love story like everyone wants to put it! That’s- That’s dumb!”

  • “Do you guys want me to make anything specific for dinner this week? (Pause) No, no, I want to! I love cooking, you know that. Really, mom, it’s no trouble.”

  • “I’ve got way too many papers to grade. I told Mrs. Tanaka I’d help her out, but holy cow! I didn’t know I was reading their essays! And I feel bad for complaining because she’s such a sweet lady and I literally offered, but I have actual work on top of this and it’s just… you know?”

Role assigned to: Hatriarch

Shidou is a brash, confident, and annoying young man. He can be rather insufferable to talk to, especially if you’re not a man who believes in sexism. He’s got a nice voice, sure, but his words are riddled with slang and unidentifiable crude statements towards women. He cusses a lot and talks like an average young man who has been on the internet for a while. Shidou, in English, speaks with a Southern accent.

Shidou's voice is a medium-high male pitch voice. His voice is very smooth and bright. Think of athletes and celebrities, with a cocky and arrogant demeanor.

NOTICE: Shidou very commonly says things that are violently misogynistic, and is generally degrading as a person. Do not apply for this role if you are uncomfortable with saying these things/being associated with such a  character. This is included as a forewarning because it is consistent, constant behavior.

Shidou's role is 18+. By applying, you are agreeing that you are an ADULT.

  • “Not even joking. There’s a chick out there that’s fuckin’ nuts.. Dunno why they’re letting all these girls dress like guys nowadays. ‘S fuckin’ annoying.”

Role assigned to: sicilia

Dr. Natsume is an eccentric and obsessively curious parasitologist with an almost unsettling fascination for infestations and symbiotic life. He is outwardly cheerful, civil, and reliable, often going out of his way to help others, but his odd interests and unorthodox methods can make him seem slightly pathetic or socially awkward at times. Despite his quirks, he is stable and consistent — someone you can count on to follow through on his ideas, no matter how strange they may be.

His voice is a medium-high male pitch and should have a raspy, slightly rough quality, conveying both “freakishness” and warmth.

  • “I see, I see. What an interesting view you have, Dr. Sankar! It doesn’t seem like you particularly feel bad about this either, do you?”

  • “(Cheery, sweet) I’d say ranging from your awful personality, unintelligent remarks and your dastardly appearance, there’s a lot you could be insecure about!”

Dr. Kisaragi embodies serene precision. Every gesture, word, and pause is deliberate and carefully calibrated to elicit a desired response. She is unshakably polite, almost reverent, yet her politeness is a weapon. The gentleness of her voice contradicts a mind capable of cruelty. She rarely shows overt emotion, and when she does, it is muted and unnervingly composed.

Her voice is a soft and smooth medium-low female pitch, but capable of taking on an authoritative tone. She seldom hesitates.

This role requires a large range because you will be playing multiple characters.

  • “Of course. His tastes are far more insufferable than yours are. I’m glad you’ve chosen something much more tasteful. (Sigh) Hopefully he’ll be off your case soon. If it’s not enough, contact Dr. Nezumizu. “

  • “It’s a shame he’s so vulgar considering how accomplished of a doctor he is. I’m sure you can relate to his motivations, can’t you?”
