Surveyors Casting Call 1
Project Overview
Surveyors is an animated adventure series following three young Survey Officers as they journey across a vast and strange world, documenting its wildlife, cultures, landscapes, and mysteries.
As the members of Unit 93, researcher Selma Corian, ranger Dido Ridings, and wayfinding officer Francesca “Mochi” Marietta spend months traveling on foot through enormous biomes, crossing mountains, forests, grasslands, settlements, and places that aren’t quite on the maps yet. Along the way they encounter unfamiliar creatures and peoples, rival Survey units, dangerous terrain, bizarre natural phenomena, and occasionally things that probably weren’t covered adequately in training.
But Surveying isn’t all peril and discovery. There are resthouses, communal dinners, sore feet, showers after days on the trail, petty arguments, friendships with other units, terrible ideas, and long evenings spent together far from home.
At its heart, Surveyors is about three very different people becoming a tiny home for one another in an impossibly enormous world. It’s an adventure series where discovering a new species can be just as important as finally reaching a warm bed.
This is currently a volunteer (unpaid) project. As an independently produced series, I am unfortunately unable to offer financial compensation at this stage. I deeply appreciate everyone who chooses to contribute their time and talent!
Green Survey Officer — Research
Selma is a 22 year old Survey Officer in the Research Department. Dressed in her bright green uniform, she fills the role as the Garrison’s Unit 93 resident scholar. She can be sensible and logical, but also excitable and quirky. She gets very enthusiastic when she finds something intriguing, and it can be hard to pull her away from her notes.
Selma is often the closest of the trio to the voice of reason, she’s responsible and highly educated. However she’s also intensely curious and capable of becoming so fascinated by something she forgets about hazards. She approaches the world with genuine intellectual wonder, but is also an overthinker and can be stubborn when she thinks she’s right. She also develops a competitive streak with a certain fellow researcher.
She isn’t cold or humorless despite her intelligence. She’s warm, excitable, and deeply attached to her friends. She just happens to express herself with a bit more restraint than Dido.
Vocal direction: Intelligent, warm, articulate, and grounded. Selma should be capable of sounding professionally composed without becoming stiff or overly mature. Her excitement and enthusiasm should occasionally break straight through that composure.

Officer Selma Corian, Research! I’d like to report a hazard on route 184.
Oh my goodness. Mochi come look, this is a rare species, isn’t it cute??
Dido wait no no— Okay why did I even try…
Orange Survey Officer — Ranger
Bold, athletic, impulsive, affectionate, and hard to embarrass, Dido has an almost supernatural ability to turn strangers into acquaintances and acquaintances into drinking buddies. She’s the member of the trio most likely to hear music coming from a village and disappear toward it before Selma has finished saying, “Dido, wait.”
As a Ranger, however, Dido is far more than comic relief. She’s physically capable, brave under pressure, experienced in wilderness survival, and often the first person moving when something goes wrong. Her recklessness comes partly from enormous confidence in her ability to handle whatever happens next.
Dido loves people loudly. She teases her friends relentlessly, throws herself into local customs, and brings kinetic momentum to a trio that might otherwise spend considerably more time thinking about things.
Vocal direction: Energetic, confident, expressive, and effortlessly conversational. Dido should sound like someone who occupies a room without deliberately trying to. Big energy is welcome, but she shouldn’t become a permanently shouting cartoon character; her quieter sincerity and rare seriousness matters too.

Mochiiiiii! Come here you little blue goob. You’re just adorable.
Cmonnn Selma, the locals here dance every night! You can join for just one.
Okay so maybe trying to ride the wildlife was a little much… but it was fun!
Blue Survey Officer — Wayfinding
At 4’10”, Mochi is the smallest member of Unit 93 and easily its most reserved. She’s bashful, meticulous, private, and prone to worrying that she’s slowing everybody else down. She’d generally prefer not to be the center of attention and can become adorably flustered when somebody makes her one.
As a Wayfinding Officer, she also the person responsible for making sure Unit 93 actually gets where it’s going.
Mochi’s gentleness shouldn’t be mistaken for helplessness. Beneath her anxious exterior is a remarkably persistent young woman who chose a profession requiring her to cross an enormous world on foot. She notices details, takes her responsibilities seriously, and possesses a quiet stubbornness that becomes much more apparent once she’s pushed.
Her friendship with Selma and Dido gradually gives her somewhere safe enough to become sillier, grouchier, braver, and more openly affectionate.
Vocal direction: Soft, youthful, sincere, and somewhat timid without sounding infantile. Mochi is a young adult, not a child. Her comedy works best when played naturally. Little hesitations, muttered objections, tiny flashes of indignation, and her more serious moments require genuine emotional weight.

“O-Okay! So we’re here, just under a mile southwest of marker 99.
Selma… I don’t think it’s a good idea to get too close. Remember what happened last time you got too excited about plants?
Dido! Y-You can't just say things like that where people can hear!
