Stop Motion Student Film: A Bug Story
Project Overview
Hello you! We are looking for two voice actors for our stop motion student short film, set to be completed in the April 2025. This is an unpaid opportunity and geared towards actors looking to becoming professional voice actors. Since we are hoping to debut our film at film festival around the world, we can't share any spoilers of our story just yet. But here is the rundown: in New York City in the 90s, a hopeless romantic Dungbeetle gets dumped by its human girlfriend. The aftermath of this break-up is not a pretty sight. When the Dungbeetle’s ex-girlfriend returns for her stuff, the final confrontation of this cross-species relationship is as horrifying as it is awkward.

Auditions
If you can share a demo reel showing your range that would be ideal, but we also have some sample lines for you to read from if you don't have a demo reel available. Please submit your reels/demos by Nov 22nd at 11:59 EST. We will review submissions Nov 23-24th and notify chosen talent by Nov 25th if they have been picked. Please note if you are based in the Greater Toronto Area and are interested with in-person recording.
Recording
Since we are based in the Greater Toronto Area and have access to a recording studio, we would love to do in-person recording sessions. If coming in-studio isn't possible you can work with us online and send us your files for processing! You will receive the script Nov 25th and be recording Nov 26th to Dec 3rd, this is a collaborative process and being open to receiving notes is an asset. Your main contact point will be Rae, our sound lead and our production managers Shay and Venya.

Who are we?
We are a group of 13 animation students based in Canada looking to break into the animation industry. We are passionate about horror, weirdness, and all things stop motion! This film is our year long group project done throughout our third year at Sheridan Animation. Our studio name is 13 Bugs in a Trench Coat, because we are 13 bugs pretending to be human in a trench coat.

Bug is objectively, a human sized Dung-beetle. But he has the heart of a tortured poet and loves his girlfriend... Well, now ex-girlfriend. She dumped him because he is a clingy slob with nothing going for him. He speaks in a series of bug clicks, chirps, and hisses occasional when going feral. Somehow his ex understands all this though? This hopeless romantic is going to need something big to shock it out of this funk.

Ex-girlfriend, or GF for short just dumped her bug-friend, making him now ex-bugfriend. The least of her problems were that he is a giant dungbeetle, it was that there is no room to breathe! This gives her a new found freedom to enjoy the 90's in New York.
GF is a English speaking, young adult woman. She is of working age and engages in the underground music scene. Her voice is mature, confident, and smooth, but when going under turmoil in this messy break-up she is confronted with fear and fighting her ex who transforms from a loving bug into a monster.
