Station to Station Casting Call

Station to Station Casting Call

Project Overview

When Dr Miranda Quan embarks on an 10-week research cruise in the Pacific Ocean, she expects two months of no-nonsense experiments, bad Titanic jokes and marathoning Grey’s Anatomy. Instead, her lab partner has vanished, leaving nothing but a notebook full of illogical ramblings, a voice recorder, and a half-finished maths problem she has to solve. With a storm moving in and something sinister lurking below decks, Miranda must untangle the conspiracy surrounding her or be consumed.

Station to Station is a sci-fi mystery/horror podcast produced as part of the Procyon Podcast Network. Actor will preform with each other via Skype, each recording their own side of the audio, which will be later mixed by our audio engineer. The pay is $15 per hour of recording. There will also be one-hour-long rehearsal for each episode. Expected recording periods should be about once every two weeks.

A biochemist who is very enthusiastic about her job. Kinda awkward, kinda genius, with a certain tendency to ramble. Tends to hyper-focus and obsess over problems she needs to solve, often puts others before herself out of habit. Having recently found her research partner and close friend missing, she is a little frantic, a little scared, and driven by sheer willpower to solve the puzzle.

Notes: The child of diplomats, Miranda grew up in a variety of English schools and international cities. As a result, she speaks with a sort-of British accent that uses a colourful variety of foreign idioms and American slang.

Actors trying for the role should have a distinct non-American accent or able to do a consistent non-American accent.

SEEKING: Chinese VAs only. Ability to speak Chinese (any dialect) is a bonus.

  • Log nineteen, Monday. 1100 hours. So far in my inventory I have: three notebooks, one very creepy tape, a research paper (incomplete) and, I dunno, my plucky wits? Some research cruise this is turning out to be. Last year, a shark tried to eat someone equipment that was being towed behind the ship, and this year everything just got weirder. I had two days off, so I had some time to myself to- to sort through my- to sort through everything. I mean I do have all of Jonathan’s notes, his audio recordings and his files but. Uhm. On the other hand…they…well…to put it mildly, they’re trainwreck that’s just caught fire. It’s nothing but rambling notes and random phrases and self-memos. I’m on pretty thin ground here if I want to string together anything that might lead me to some sort of answer.

A divorced, ex-Christian, ex-smoker, Reva is a no-nonsense woman who is very rational, down-to-earth and argumentative. She is tough and not easy to fool, but cares fiercely for the people around her. Her dry sense of humour might fly under the radar if you’re not looking for it.

SEEKING: Latina VAs only.

  • Listen. I worked as 911 operator for five years before I landed this job. And I’ve seen people do a lot of extreme, irrational shit in the heat of the moment- so this isn’t unexpected, but that doesn’t mean I like it. That frustration that you’re acting on right now? That’s the grief speaking. You can let it in and you can even let it stay - just for a bit - but you cannot let it take over. You just gotta process it. I’m not letting you back out there unless you’ve collected yourself. I’m gonna trust you on this one, but I need to know I can rely on you as well.

Miranda's best friend, fellow scientist and researcher. Used to be a nice kid, but got himself into some hot water a short while ago, and as a result is now constantly skitterish and on the verge of breakdown. Loved his job, but kind of always thought he was meant for something more, and took a leap of faith with a large research corporation. Has a lot of regrets. Disappeared before the series starts, leaving nothing but a tape recorder and a few notebooks.

  • Day nineteen. We had a…we had an accident in the lab today. A young woman, Laurel, she-er. We lost her. We…we lost her. Results are still the same. I think I knew that this was coming, the dangers of the job, the— all the expectations that come with it. I knew— I knew. We all did. I just— I don’t think any of us expected it to come— so early. We all believed in something, when we went into it. We were all sold on some cause, that we were doing good and making changes, that we would leave a legacy. Goes to show, right? We were given a few days off- management says it’s so we can take a break, get our heads around it, but I think they’re just trying to clean the lab and the- God - the equipment.

A smug technician with a secret. Kind of an asshole when he's stressed. Plays dumb, but his temperament is due to change at any given moment once he cracks.

  • You wanna turn this into a witch-hunt? You go the hell ahead, but let me tell you something - there are people onboard this ship with friends so high you don’t even know they exist and when the wind turns - and the wind will turn - you’re gonna have to reap what you’ve sowed. Right now, you have the high ground, but when this boat goes to land…well. We’ll see who comes out in one piece. So you wanna throw me to the wolves, I’m dragging you with me.
