A special high-end limited series that’s a part of the celebration of Marvel’s 80th anniversary, SPIDER-MAN: LIFE STORY combines the talents of Chip Zdarsky (SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, MARVEL 2-IN-ONE) and Mark Bagley (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN) to tell the entire history of Spider-Man from beginning to end, set against the key events of the decades through which he lived! In this first oversized issue, when Flash Thompson is drafted to serve during the Vietnam War, Spidey must weigh the question of where his responsibility truly lies!

After seeing an advertisement, he decided to test his powers on a wrestler. Peter easily defeated the wrestler and got the money he was promised. After that, Peter designed a device that can shoot webs, which he called "web-shooters" and a new costume. Peter, who now called himself Spider-Man, was an immediate hit. Once, after a show, he encountered a burglar. Instead of stopping him, Peter decided to let him go. The police officer that was chasing after him remanded Peter. However, he just says that it was not his problem. Later, he was heading home, he saw that his house was surrounded by police. When he asked a police officer, he was informed that his uncle Ben was killed by a burglar and that the burglar was currently being surround in a warehouse. Quickly donning his costume, Spider-Man went to the warehouse with revenge in his mind. When he caught the burglar, he looked at the burglar. He quickly realized that it was the same person he should have stopped. From that day on, Peter decided to use his powers to fight crime.

  • Four years. It feels like yesterday, that bite. The pain of it faded... but, boy, the results sure stuck around.

  • I still don't really know what I'm doing... but I'm sure getting better at it. At least I am as Spidey. Not so sure about Peter Parker. A morning spent putting Mysterio away means I just missed two classes.

  • Wait, is... oh man... if Cap signs up, after already sacrificing so much in World War II... what excuse do I make?

Gwen Stacy was a classmate of Peter Parker while they were undergraduates at Empire State University. Initially, Peter's problems as Spider-Man made him ignore her advances, and in return, she felt insulted by his aloofness. Gradually, however, a romance developed. Gwen, a science major, seemed to appreciate Peter's intellectual personality, different from that of jocks like Flash Thompson and preppies like Harry Osborn. She was Peter Parker's first true love.

  • Peter... what's wrong with you? You're-- you're a genius! A legitimate genius! And I've seen the way you are with your aunt! You care about people!

  • What's gotten into you? I know you and Flash have history, but the man's leaving for war! You may not agree with it but--

  • He's leaving on Saturday, Peter. You know and I know... he may not be coming back. Don't let the last thing you say to him be that.

Unbeknownst to Peter, she was aware of his secret identity as Spider-Man, having seen him change into his costume the night his Uncle Ben died. After the tragic passing of Gwen, MJ was there to support a broken-down Peter, which marked the start of their long lasting relationship.

  • Forget the old man, Harry, trust me. Let's just have a gas and see our pal off, yeah?

  • What? We're fine. It works, Pete. We can't all be perfect like you and your little lab bunny.

  • You just wallow in regrets! You love them! Instead of telling him he was making a mistake, you could have saved Flash! With all your (BLEEP) power!
