Indie Multiplayer Cleaning Game: S.K.R.U.B. Squad

Project Overview

What Is S.K.R.U.B. Squad?

S.K.R.U.B. Squad is a first person multiplayer cleaning game in the vein of Viscera Cleanup Detail, Power Wash Simulator and House Flipper. You play as a member of an advanced alien race whose sole joy is travelling to different places in time and space and...cleaning them up!

This game is being independently funded and developed by myself with help by a couple wonderful contractors, and will be released as a paid product on Steam and Itchio.

Please see the attached gameplay video for a peek at the game in its current early pre-production state, and take a look at my bio on here for more information about myself and my other published games.

About The Roles

The roles here are primarily background NPCs present in the game's lobby (seen early on in the attached video), who will have ambient conversations while in the lobby to give it flavour and grounding to the world. The only exception is the role of the Supervisor, which requires more lines than the rest as they voice additional lines for the game's tutorial. I anticipate the average word count for each role is approximately 1000 words.

Please note while characters in this game have feminine bodies as a stylistic choice, this does not imply any creative expectation whatsoever of vocal style for these roles; all genders, races, accents, backgrounds and voice types are welcome and encouraged to apply for any role listed here. I'd love to see what direction you want to take their voices.

What Am I Looking For?

Given some experiences I've had in the past here are some things that might help inform whether you choose to audition:

Clean, stable audio quality

Working with limited resources, I won't have time to clean up audio on my end. If your setup has issues like background noise, EQ imbalances, or muddy quality, I would advise you not to apply as your audition likely won't make the cut. Sorry!

Ability to follow pipeline direction

Due to the game's setup for localization, the file delivery on this project will require applications to adhere to a relatively file naming scheme for final file delivery

Reliability and Independent Working

It's important that those who get the roles can turn in their recordings in a timely and reliable manner. While I'm open to setting up group recording sessions for these roles via remote call, I'd prefer actors be comfortable with managing and editing their own recordings.

Availability to do pickups as-needed

There's a chance some line reads may not be sufficient or require alterations or updates, in which case I may ask for additional pickups of limited lines. While I will do my best to avoid this, it's always a possibility.

Ability do additional recordings for the character down the road

There is a chance additional conversations and dialog may come up outside of these initial lines as additional content is made for the game (DLC, special events, etc), so being available to record more is always helpful! Should this occur, this work will be paid in addition to what was already paid at initial casting.

What else should you know?

After the deadline auditions will be reviewed by myself and Ruari - the writer who is crafting the dialog - and actors will be notified of acceptance and followed up with on CCC to be informed of next steps. Scripts will be supplied via Google Sheets and should be delivered to via Google Drive upon completion, at which point actors will be paid out.

All roles will be paid a flat rate of $200 CDN per role (or approximately $140 USD), delivered via Paypal upon delivery of the final audio.

Auditions by minors will not be accepted.

Please let me know if you have any comments, questions or concerns about the role and thank you for your time!

Latest Updates

  • Still sorting auditions! 🫡

Hi folks! Just a tiny update to let you know we're still sorting through auditions and working out our shortlists. So far 3 of the 4 roles have been created, and I'll be working on the final one over the next few days. Following that selected applicants will be picked and notified via CCC of acceptance; I'll also be publishing a notification when acceptances have gone out.

    Thanks again for your patience!

  • Submissions Closed!

Thank you everyone for your submissions, we're incredibly blown away by your interest in these roles!

We'll be reviewing the auditions and will update as soon as we've been able to sort through them all; I anticipate this may take up to a month to go through as we have over 1000 auditions to listen through (🤯)

We'll follow up with the selected actors afterwards for next steps. Thanks so much again!

Supervisor

Paid: Flat Rate 100 USD
Role assigned to: Vforest

The Supervisor is a member of the slime-person alien race. They speak casually, but have a somewhat distant and cold personality - like an indifferent coworker. Much to their name, they teach and supervise the young slimes (a.k.a the players) as they clean, occasionally offering advice, commentary and observations on their progress.

They are also the NPC which guides the player through the Tutorial, so this role will have more lines than the others and may require more than one recording session for those.

  • [Contemplative] What's the best way to clean? Well that’s a loaded question in and of itself but I can try my best to explain how I work.

  • [Casual] Hi. I’m Supervisor. I'm going to be the best point of contact for you going forward.

  • [Sympathetic] I know this can be a lot to take in at once. Let me know if you have any questions. Ok?

The Supplier is a member of the alien slime race. They have a bold, outspoken, and brash personality.

They manage the game’s upgrade store, where they sell players access to upgrades and stat boosts in exchange for skill points. Notably, they do not deal in money or cash but only in “points”.

  • [Neutral] Sorry bud, but you don’t have enough points for that upgrade.

  • [Warm] I’ve never really been one for compliments, but you did really well today bud.

  • [Frustrated] There's nothing I hate more than people who don’t know how to do their bleeping job.

The Technician is a member of the slime alien race. They are often hyperfixated and distracted by their own interests, and are easily immersed in their work which consists of lots of technical jargon.

They allow the player access to the character customization menu.

  • [Neutral] How do you feel about the current suit that you have? Mhmm… Ok… Yeah I'm hearing that.

  • [Excited] Actually! Fun fact – did you know that the history of our race cleaning up intergalactic messes dates back thousands of generations! Oh but you probably know that already since you are one of us…

  • [Distracted] Appearance settings are over there... or wait, did I move them? I reorganized the whole interface yesterday because the color theory was all wrong.

  • [Starting flirty, but transitions into being matter-of-fact] Well hello there gorgeous! Ready to get your hands dirty?~ And I mean that literally - we've got some stellar messes that need cleaning!

  • [Playful] This is Suppy, the supplier, and Techy, the technician, and that's Supervisor. They don’t get a nickname because they are rude.

  • [A Bit Excited] No worries, I'm going to find you the perfect cleaning buddy!
