About slaughterneko (Devon W.)

WHO AM I?

I'm Devon Wiersma! I'm a full time independent game developer who makes games independently as a solo developer!

In the past I have professionally worked as a level designer at Ubisoft Toronto and Cococucumber on games called Far Cry 6 and Riverbond respectively, as well as at a studio called The Beans Team. My personal independent projects include a successfully Kickstarter-funded tabletop roleplaying game system called Runt, a horror first-person-shooter called The Fire of '98, and a 3D Hidden Object adventure game called Lofty Quest. I also made a paint anywhere video game series called Bombing!!, comprising both Bombing!! 2: A Graffiti Paradise and Bombing!!: A Graffiti Sandbox. I also teach students about game development as a job.

For more information on me and my past works, please see my portfolio and itch.io page. You can also check out some other stuff via my social media links.

I usually develop my games by myself (programming, modelling, design, the whole lot!) as well as using paid contributions from other creatives as well as publicly available assets to fill in gaps where my skillset lacks. I'm a firm believer in compensating people for their work, taking a chance on people, giving marginalized individuals a chance to shine, as well as investing in new and under-utilized talent.

Devon is really easy to work with. They are very understanding and super nice! They ask for your work preferences and incorporate that into how they give you lines. It was a paid project, and they paid the full amount before I got any material. Once I turned in the lines, next thing I knew, the game was finalized! They work really hard to get their projects done. I would 100% work with Devon again, if they asked. It was such a great experience, and I am super grateful that they would take a chance on a beginner like me.
