Skywind: CASTING NOW CLOSED
Project Overview
UPDATE: ALL ROLES ARE NOW CAST. CASTING IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Additional roles may open if VAs drop out, or potentially for future content.
WHAT IS SKYWIND?
The Elder Scrolls Renewal: Skywind is a non-commercial, fan made modification for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that seeks to merge the amazing world of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with the enhanced graphics and capabilities of Skyrim's engine.[1] The original game developers, Bethesda Softworks, have given project volunteers their approval.[2] All original game assets, including textures, music, quests and gameplay, are being redesigned.[3]
When you audition, please:
Do not slate your audition.
Record your combat lines at a lower gain than your spoken lines.
Submit with unedited audio. We need to hear the raw audio to gauge if your submission meets our audio quality standards.
Successful auditioners will be notified via PM.
Want to help in other ways?
If you want to help out the project in other ways (concept art, 3D modelling, writing, implementation), please visit our website's volunteer page and send us an application!
Feedback
We don't provide feedback for any auditions posted here, but if you would like feedback you can receive it in the Auditorium channel of our discord page, where we encourage you to post: https://discord.gg/cP4zMJPg
The above link will also provide additional resources about our audio quality standards, which are relatively high. 90% of our auditions are rejected due to sound quality issues.
In most cases, you will need an XLR mic, or a high quality USB mic (Samson C01U, Audio Technica, Rode) to be considered, as well as a reverb-treated space (this could just be as simple as a blanket fort or walk-in closet, but an open bedroom usually won't pass due to the echo). Headphone microphones, blue yetis etc are not typically accepted - but if you're confident in your sound, feel free to give it a shot!

*IMPORTANT: Each role has approximately 500-1,000 lines of dialogue, which we expect to be delivered within 3 months.

Voice Type: Gruff, honest, middle aged, militaristic type. A tough man with a kind heart. A major character and questgiver throughout the game. He doesn't seem particularly interested in power or status, but rather, simply chooses to live an honest life well. Surprisingly, tends to prefer not having to resort to violence if it is avoidable, despite being a Guardian in the Fighters Guild. British or American can both work.
[dialogue] Well, it's no matter; I was just curious about your view on the subject. You know, I bet that armor would never hold up to a blow from a blade made of Imperial steel. You are the Guildmaster. I hope you will use your power and influence for the greater good of the Fighters Guild.
[combat, SCREAMED] Your head will be my new trophy! Arrrgh! Ungha!
- Middle-aged to mature voice type with mid-deep tone. Should sound somewhat tired-of life (but is relatively good natured). Should sound hungover and a bit out of it some of the time (and sometimes, even a little intoxicated), but not to a distracting degree, and this is still to be used selectively. Despite this, he is a clever man, and can have definite moments of serious clarity that allow him to convey well-thought out plans and instructions with ease. Might be somewhat dry, cynical and sarcastic, but is generally well-intentioned.
- Captain Vimes is a character reference, if you're familiar with the Discworld novels (from the books, not the TV show). Otherwise, a slower paced and less intelligent Dr House is another decent reference of the kind of character type we're going for. Caius is less of an asshole though and takes his job seriously. American or British can both work.
[Dialogue] I don't know much about the Ashlanders. Most people say they are murderous savages. But most people are idiots. A word of advice. In Morrowind, if you have disturbing dreams, the Temple says you are crazy. And they want to lock you up. So take my advice, and keep a lid on it. Eccentric isn't charming to them -- it's dangerous. The natives are very tight-cheeked, and you will be too, if you want to avoid unwanted attention. Internal politics. Some concern about my sugar. I thought about refusing the recall. But they have members of my family back in the capital.
[Combat MUST BE SCREAMED] Get OUT OF HERE! And don't come back! I don't CARE what the Emperor wants! I don't CARE about your excuses! Your head will be my new trophy!
[Combat effort sounds, SCREAMED] Arrrgh! Ungha!
Deep, gruff, jowly, with a unique accent (German, Greek, Middle Eastern, Welsh, etc - essentially just avoiding existing represented accents of British, American, French, Polish, Russian), to highlight his isolation and uniqueness in the world as the last Dwemer.
We are also leaning away from Scottish accents - the original Morrowind team went out of their way to differentiate the Dwemer from the standard fantasy dwarves, which often use Scottish accents, and we're trying to honour that vision.
The Dwemer have some Babylon/Persia inspirations in their background, so accents influenced by these cultures, and Semitic accents, are encouraged.
Additionally, Yagrum is very sick - so going with a strained, phlemgy emphysemic delivery would match his outward appearance.
Yagrum Bagarn is a resident of the Corprusarium and the last known living Dwemer. He is infected with Corprus, and can only move around with the help of a modified Centurion Spider's lower half. He is a good friend of Divayth Fyr, a powerful and ancient mage who oversees the Corprusarium and Tel Fyr. Yagrum is also the author of Tamrielic Lore.

[Dialogue] I can still see them: lofty spires, deep halls, great works of magic and craftsmanship the likes of which Nirn will never see again. Ah... I recognize that helm. What strange happenstance, that you should be wearing it here and now. So. It's you again. What brings you to visit... wait. What is that you have there?
[Combat, SCREAMED] Raargh! Hargh!
Looking for an androgynous voice. Something light (for a male) rather than deep, that has a feminine quality (not meaning flamboyant, just something androgynous, with a softness to it, perhaps).
Voice aside, tone should come across as pretty impassive, matter-of-fact, emotionless, OR lean into the warrior-poet nature, fluid and expressive. There should be some melancholy. Perhaps a blend of both, at different points. For the accent, the same "transatlantic" as we use for Dunmer. Non-rhotic R, but otherwise not distinctly British or American (American in particularly should be avoided).
Open to hearing different ideas and interpretations.
[Dialogue] The sin of the Dwemer was the creation of a new god from the substance of a dead god, Lorkhan. That is also the sin for which we would destroy Dagoth Ur. I hesitate to call it 'sin'. More properly, call it 'destructive evil'. The sin of the Tribunal, however, is in the breaking of an oath to Azura to forebear from tapping the Heart with Kagrenac's tools. And in the folly of seeking to become Gods. Breaking the oath was evil. Becoming gods was folly. If we sinned, we have paid the price.
[Combat Taunt] Don't fight gods, fool. Foolish mortal. You're hardly a match for me!
[Combat grunt] Grrragh! Ungha! Argh!
The Dagoth Ur voice is so iconic, that we will consider applicants who can do a fantastic Jeff Baker DU impression.
We are also open to other interpretations of the character, such as something influenced by the general Dunmer style.

[Dialogue] You are the challenger here, after all. So to you goes the courtesy of the first blow. I'm waiting... You are bold. I honor your independence. You are one to teach the gods their limits. I hope the bards will praise the glory of your death in song. What a world... Perhaps we shall never know. But as I have sympathy for you, and the melancholy fate of all mortals, I shall weep for your death.
[Combat Taunts - last line must be screamed] Omnipotent. Omniscient. Sovereign. Immutable. How sweet it is to be a god! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
[Attack Sounds - must be screamed] Hragh! Yeagh!
All dunmer women have now been cast. This is being left open as if someone drops out, spots may still become available.
The Dunmer accent can range from modern “posh” British accents to the Trans-Atlantic accent from early Hollywood. To keep from sounding distinctly North American, Dunmer voice actors are asked to avoid the rhotic R.
In general, Dunmer should sound wise, even in their youth. They live in a harsh land, and their lifespans are very long - they are a pragmatic people and venerate the wisdom of their elders from even from a young age. They should speak in a precise manner, clear and articulated, taking the time to think through exactly what they mean to say as they say it.
Female Dunmer will have a mid-range to low pitch. A rough/gritty tone may be present, similar to low level of mild, continuous vocal fry. They are somewhat more masculine in tone, with some huskiness. Female Dunmer will sound mature overall, and don’t sound younger than mid-30’s in age. The most true to the original Morrowind would sound very mature, with a slight wavering, shaky quality--not from lack of confidence, but rather just normal aging of the vocal cords--still sounding wise, prideful, and confident in disposition. They won’t ever sound young, like children or teenagers.

[Dialogue Female]- Perhaps I can help you with the Oracle's riddle. Nammu, or 'no-name,' is a cavern in the wildlands of Sunna Guradan. Its east-facing entrance is west-north-west from the Daedric ruin Yansirramus. At the heart of the cavern is a great high chamber, flooded, with a central spire rising from the water. The water around the bottom of the spire might be the ring of darkness from the Oracle's vision.
[Combat taunts MUST BE SCREAMED! Kill or be killed situation] - You n'wah!- Die, fetcher.- This is the end of you, s'wit.- You will suffer greatly.(Combat taunts: Ordinator)- You cannot escape the righteous!- You will pay with your blood!
[Taking damage] - Hurragh!- Groan.- AAAIIEE.- Umpfh.

For males, the rasp is the most important thing. If you can throat sing, and apply this rasp on top of throat singing, that is the ideal Dunmer voice. That's how Jeff Baker does the voice.
Voice Type Noble, leader, and diplomat. He is respected and politically powerful. His voice is smooth and smokey, mid-toned rather than particularly deep or high. Has a condescension about his tone expected of his position and authority, but doesn't speak with malice - just with the simple fact that the player is beneath him. (Lord Vetinari from the Discworld series would be a character reference).
Requires the classic Dunmer throat singing/rasp.
[dialogue] I am pleased to hear this. Inform me as soon as you are completed so that we can pass along your discoveries to the Legion. No, let us wait a bit longer. No use in stirring tensions with the Committee on Fishing Ordinances. This is an excellent development, but we musn't celebrate until it is done. You will take care of any complacent officials, will you not?
[combat] This is the end of you, s'wit. Hughahh. Ungh!
Mature and mid to deep tone. Smokey, considered, serious, wise. Sharp and cutting when speaking about men, but warm, soft and loving when speaking about women. This contrast should be exaggerated and apparent, but not to a comedic extent. She despises men with a passion but is considerate and generous to the women around her. She is the oldest living Telvanni councilor and her voice and tone should reflect this to some degree. She keeps herself alive with necromancy and is incredibly powerful.

[Dialogue] To complete one of my collections, I need the Amulet of Flesh Made Whole. Do not let me think you are unable to finish this task. I despise incompetence. I have not yet discovered all the amulet's properties, but I believe it has unique restorative enchantments that are useful for my purposes
[Should be SCREAMED] Your pain is nearing an end! Hugharrr. Gasp.

Voice Type: Smooth, slightly younger voice as opposed to deep and mature. This character can have a lighter rasp but still requires the Dunmer throat singing technique. Aryon is clever, and wise, but also kind and open-minded, moreso than any other Telvanni councillor. He should be somewhat softly spoken. He's eccentric but fully aware of his own actions and reactions. He's ambitious, but his ambition doesn't blind his morals.
[Dialogue] Do you really think someone would go to the trouble to kill me? All right, I suppose that's fair -- if only for the convenience. It's not every day an item such as this shows up on your doorstep. That is a very interesting Dwemer helm you have there. Where did you get that?
[Combat, SCREAMED] This is the end of you, s'wit. [Attack] Hughahh. [Taking damage] Ungh!

[Dialogue Male] - I have long believed it was a mistake to turn from the old gods. Perhaps Azura is with you after all. And perhaps not. I will tell you that I've spoken with Dagoth Ur. He promised me the same thing. That he will drive the foreigners from our lands. But I am not one to ignore opportunity, nor am I one to be troubled by rubbing two sides of a coin. If you are one of your word, I am your ally. I will tell Velanda Omani and Nevena Ules to support you as Hortator of House Hlaalu.

Seeking one male voice
Bretons are based after real-world Bretons, the celts of France. So we're looking for predominately French. True French accents are greatly appreciated.
Voice Type: The opposite of what would be expected from a powerful rogue mage - repentant, humble, and generally kind. He has been exhausted and tormented by the Presence, and so he is rather frantic and anxious, which makes it is hard to tell whether he is sincerely eccentric or if he is covering up a darker truth.

(Player dialogue Male)- Wait! I'm no warrior. If you wish to meddle in this, I will not stop you. But until I finish my work, more will die. You don't know what you've stumbled into, mercenary. Turn back. Each step you take brings us all closer to destruction. Please, leave me to my work.
(Combat taunts)- My victory is at hand!- To the death!- Your skills fail you!- Soon you'll be reduced to dust!
(Taking damage)- Hurragh!- Groan.- AAAIIEE.- Umpfh.
We're looking for someone with a light, sweet voice type for the dialogue, but combat should still be powerful.
Youthful. Standard American accent. Charming. Can be somewhat kind and energetic and friendly, but reverts to a more serious and "mystical" manner while performing her core duties. Proper manner of speech. Main questgiver and Oracle for the imperial cult.

[Player dialogue] - A conspiracy to kill the emperor? Thank the Divines you found this evidence. Well done. And, it's good to hear you brought justice to those would consider such a course of action.- I thank you, and the Emperor himself may personally thank you when he hears of this. You have done a great service to the Empire. Long live Uriel Septim!
[Combat taunts] - I've trifled with you long enough.- You will die where you stand!- Come on! Fight!- Surrender now and I might let you live!
[Taking damage] - Hurragh!- Groan.- AAAIIEE.- Umpfh.
