On a night when murder is legal and the streets are anything but safe, 23-year-old Izabell opens her door to Mira, an acquaintance from her local grocery store. With a Pride flag in her window making her home a potential target, the two spend the night together, navigating uneasy silences, uncomfortable truths, and a world where the unthinkable has become ordinary. Mira seems perfectly fine on the surface, but beneath her confident, outspoken personality lies a secret she can barely bring herself to admit. As the night unfolds and the two grow closer, small inconsistencies begin to reveal a truth neither of them can ignore.

Because the Purge might make crime legal, but it doesn't make it right. And when the sirens finally sound, not everything can be undone.

  • Okay, first of all, I never said it was a good idea. I said it was an idea. There's a difference, and I think we should respect that difference before you start looking at me like I've personally ruined your entire life. Besides, you agreed with me! ...Okay, you said ‘sure,’ but I interpreted the tone as enthusiasm, so honestly, this is partly your fault.

  • I'm not taking it down. I'm not hiding who I am because a few idiotic assholes decided they don't like the fact that I fuck women. It's a flag. It's a fucking piece of fabric in my window, and somehow that's enough to make me a target? What does that say about this place? And don't tell me to be reasonable. I've been reasonable. I've followed the rules, kept my head down, done everything I'm supposed to do, and apparently that's still not enough for people to leave me alone.

  • Hey. Mira, look at me for a second. You've barely said anything for the last ten minutes, and every time I ask you what's wrong, you tell me you're fine. You're not fine. I know what you look like when you're fine, and this isn't it. You keep avoiding my eyes, you're acting like every little noise outside is going to make you jump out of your skin, you keep avoiding your own reflections, and I don't know what happened tonight, but something did. You don't have to tell me everything, okay? But please, just tell me whether we're safe. Because I'm starting to get the feeling you know something I don't.

A confident, outspoken, strong-minded woman who works at a local grocery store. She has known Izabell since her first day and seeks shelter at her house during the annual Purge. Beneath her likeable, assertive exterior, Mira hides a terrible secret: she murdered her best friend in cold blood over a petty argument about a sweater.

Voice: A confident, slightly raspy, masculine-sounding woman's voice. Direct, expressive, and naturally assertive, with the ability to convey humour, frustration, anger, tension, and vulnerability. Must sound natural and believable, with strong emotional range, including shouting and full screams.

  • Are you actually serious right now? No, genuinely, look at me. Do I look like I'm joking? Because I can assure you, I am being one hundred percent serious. ...Okay, maybe eighty percent. That's not the point. The point is, you asked me what I thought, I told you what I thought, and now you're getting pissy because apparently you wanted me to agree with you. Well, sorry for not being a fucking mind reader. Next time, just ask someone who's going to tell you what you want to hear.

  • Do you think I don't know what I've done? Do you think I haven't spent every fucking second since then trying to make sense of it? I know what happened. I was there. I remember every word, every stupid little thing we argued about, and I remember thinking it mattered. A fucking sweater. That's what it was about. A sweater. And now you're standing here looking at me like there's some explanation that'll make it all okay. There isn't. There fucking isn't, and I can't stand here pretending there is just because it would make you feel better.

  • Can we just... can we not do this right now? Please? I've had a really fucking long night, and I don't think I can handle another person looking at me like that. What? Like what? Like I'm some kind of monster. You don't know what happened, Izabell. You weren't there. You don't know what I was thinking, or what she said, or how quickly everything went wrong. ...No, that doesn't make it okay. I know that. God, I KNOW THAT. You think I don't know that? I've been trying not to think about it for hours, and every time I get close to forgetting, I remember her face, and I can't breathe, and I just... I don't know what I'm supposed to do with that.

  • Good evening, America, and welcome to the beginning of another successful Purge! In just a few moments, the annual twelve-hour period of suspended legal enforcement will officially commence. As always, citizens are reminded that all emergency services will remain unavailable until the conclusion of the event. Please ensure that your homes are secured, your families are accounted for, and all necessary preparations have been completed. For those choosing to participate this evening, remember that the Purge is an opportunity to exercise your constitutional freedoms without the usual restrictions of the law. For those choosing to remain indoors, we recommend staying away from windows, keeping exterior lights to a minimum, and avoiding unnecessary contact with strangers. The government would also like to remind citizens that tonight's events are entirely voluntary. No individual is required to participate, and no individual will be penalised for choosing not to do so. As we approach the commencement siren, we'd like to thank every American who continues to support this national tradition. Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous tomorrow. Please remember: the Purge is your right. Your responsibility. Your choice. We wish you all a safe and successful evening. And remember, America... we'll see you on the other side.

  • HEY! GET BACK HERE! You think you can just walk away from me? No, no, you're going to listen to what I've got to say! I've had enough of your bullshit, and I'm not letting you get away with it again! TURN AROUND AND FACE ME!

  • VOICE A, casually: ‘You heading home already? It's barely started.’ VOICE B, dismissive: ‘Yeah, well, I've got better things to do than stand around out here all night.’ VOICE A, laughing: ‘Better things? On Purge night? Mate, this IS the better thing.’ VOICE C, from a distance: ‘HEY! GET AWAY FROM THAT HOUSE!’ VOICE B, suddenly alert: ‘What the hell was that?’ VOICE A, quieter: ‘Don't know. Don't care. Come on, let's go.’ VOICE C, louder and more aggressive: ‘I SAID GET OUT HERE! I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME!’ VOICE D, frightened and breathless: ‘Please, please, just let me in! They're right behind me! PLEASE!’ VOICE C, shouting: ‘OPEN THE DOOR!’ VOICE D, screaming: ‘NO! GET AWAY FROM ME!’ VOICE A, distant and uneasy: ‘...Come on. We're leaving. NOW.’

Responsible for co-writing the screenplay for Silence Is The Enemy alongside the director. This is a collaborative role with significant creative input into the story, its structure, pacing, scenes, dialogue, and character development. While the core concept, themes, and character foundations are established, the writer will have considerable freedom to help shape how the story unfolds, suggest new ideas, develop existing plot points, and influence how the film's events are presented. Depending on audition turnout, additional writers may also join the team.

The screenplay should balance psychological horror, suspense, comedy, emotional drama, and softer, character-focused moments that allow the audience to connect with the characters and their relationships. Writers should be able to build unsettling tension, write natural humour and believable dialogue, create emotionally impactful scenes, and develop quieter moments of vulnerability without undermining the film's darker themes.

The story explores morality, personal responsibility, and how society can normalise the unthinkable. Particular attention should be given to Izabell and Mira's developing relationship, Mira's hidden secret, and the gradual revelation of the truth throughout the night. The director and writer will work closely together throughout development, discussing ideas, making creative decisions, and revising the screenplay collaboratively.

This is not simply a role for filling in dialogue around a finished story. The writer will have a genuine opportunity to influence the film's narrative structure and creative direction, while working with the director to ensure the final screenplay stays true to the project's overall vision.
