Shell for Freedom (a Capstone Animation)(PAID)
Project Overview
Hello!
If you like orphan children and mermaids, friendship, and bittersweet goodbyes then please consider checking out my project!
My name is Kyle Mathison, and I'm a college student from BC, Canada studying digital art and animation and YES... This will be a paid gig. Which really shouldn't be a grand statement between artists but oh well!! (I haven't researched this site much, but heard rumours that projects often were unpaid)
The story is set sometime in the 1700s—though this won't be relevant to the voice acting— and revolves around a boy named Hugo, who is a fairly lonely orphan living in a well meaning boarding home. He doesn't have many friends, save for a mermaid child his caretakers bought to study. They become very close, and the short is sadly about the day Hugo decides to help his friend escape back to the ocean.
Because of time constraints there isn't very much dialog, but I will need some reactionary sounds like laughing, gasping, yelling, etc. Also, I have started this project early so I can get a head start on the new semester, and that is the only reason the images are lacking!
Here's a link to the working script! (and please pardon it not being exactly industry standard )

I'm going off of other sites in terms of budget, but depending on the quality of recordings provided, experience and all that, my budget is between 75-150 USD. However, if this seems too low, let me know! I am a student, so I can't do much, but as a fellow artist it is important to me that I pay what you feel you are worth. Thanks!

The response I've had to this project has been huge, unexpected, and I can't thank each of you enough for that! I wish there were a place for more of you on this project, but I know for sure that this won't be the last time I appear on CCC. For those who were casted—and the curious few—I've made a discord server! Feel free to come and go. https://discord.gg/gjFVdr

Casting Roles
Roles will be cast today around 4PM pacific standard time! I'm very excited :D -
Storyboards finished!
... To my satisfaction anyway! It'll take me the rest of the weekend to finish the animatic (part time jobs are a joy...), but after that I will be choosing the final roles. If there is anyone out there still waiting, you'll have until Wednesday, January 22nd to record and post your audition. Thanks again so much for all the effort and enthusiasm each of you have brought to the project! I'll be in touch again soon - Kyle M. -
Classes starting: Storyboard Progress
I want to start off by saying a thank you to everyone for all the auditions! It's been fantastic listening to each of them and imagining how the finished product will turn out. As some of you might have seen, I posted a comment saying I likely wouldn't begin deciding the final voices until Monday January 6th, and I'm posting an update because I haven't yet finished the boards. Classes have started at my college, so it may take another week before I've got everything ready. Progress will continue, and I'll post another update once the boards are done to let you all know when I've begun considering. Thanks again! - Kyle M.
