Reflection

Reflection

Project Overview

"Reflection" is a slow-burn psychological horror and mystery web novel written to be adapted into a 2d animated show. It is centered around two main characters, Otto and Ellie, as everything they know to be real changes right in front of them as their true selves are peeled back layer by layer. This casting call is specifically for Ellie in the first episode; details about the larger narrative will be kept vague to avoid spoilers.

Brief Story Overview:

Ellie and Otto are two childhood best friends who grew up socially isolated except for each other. They're birds of a feather, and about as close as people can be. Twins, almost. The story starts off in the mundane, on the last day of school before winter break as Otto and Ellie try to figure out what they're going to do with all the free time. But, their winter break ends up being far, far more eventful than either could have imagined.

Throughout the first arc, Otto encounters anomalies within reality—missing objects, false memories, manipulated time, fake scenarios, repeated scenes. His grasp on reality begins to deteriorate as he's slowly brought further and further from Ellie. Further from everything he knows to be.

Context Of This Casting Call:

This is an individually funded, advertised, and produced project at the moment, but I need a voice actor for Ellie so that I can begin animation, and by extension, advertisement and the official start of the project. But, this specifically is for a trailer.

This is for the pilot/first episode's content, and the script will be around 1000 words max, so it is relatively lengthy. Since the current budget is very low (around $80-100), I'm primarily looking for someone who can capture Ellie's personality and deliver a convincing performance; professional-level polish is not a strict requirement.

FOR THE FUTURE OF THE PROJECT:

  • The chosen actor may be contacted after this casting call's content is finished to voice other parts of the story.

  • Any and all profits from this property (in use of the actor's work) will be given to the actor according to a negotiated percentage.

For Auditions:

  • Multiple takes are not required, but if given, use AABBCC.

  • Please include your expected rate; the current budget is approximately $80–100 USD.

  • Communication after an actor is chosen will be through Discord (preferably) or email.

  • The actor will only need to provide clean, raw recordings; audio editing is not required or asked for (mixing, mastering). But digital noise reduction is fine, as long as it doesn't affect the voice.

  • Payment will be provided via PayPal, though other services could possibly be used.

  • The recording schedule is flexible. Make sure that I know your availability if you're selected.

Age: 17 (sounds 16-19)

Sex: Female (feminine, mid-to-high range)

Personality:

Ellie—our deuteragonist—is a very expressive, energetic teenage girl who is hopelessly entwined with Otto—our protagonist. She's playful, deliberately performative, and exuberant to the point of absurdity. She tries to make the absolute most of the mundane life she lives alongside her best friend. Whether it be sneaking into a teacher's house at midnight to blackmail him, or hiding in closed establishments, she's excited to do anything, as long as Otto is there to enjoy it with her. ...Or so it seems, at least. Although Ellie genuinely wants to make the most of life with Otto, her love for the absurd also serves, in part, as a mask. But the audition should read as pure exuberance, with a flicker of something underneath in the more serious lines.

Voice Direction:

She has an overly casual, laid-back delivery, characterized by dropped g's, elongated words, and nonsense repetition. But, it is laid-back in an exaggerated, anime/theatrical way, rather than completely naturalistic. Her accent doesn't fit into any specific category—it's not quite Valley Girl, nor is it distinctly Southern, but it has small influences from both. She has a slightly bright tone. She tends to pronounce words loosely and lets her sentences flow together, becoming more deliberate when she wants to emphasize something. Her delivery should feel expressive and unrestrained, with a theatrical flair that comes naturally to her rather than sounding consistently exaggerated.
