Realm Jumper

Project Overview

Plot Synopsis:

Realm Jumper is the story of a boy named Chase, who falls through a Rip in spacetime and ends up in a pocket dimension in the multiverse. This pocket dimension is called the Academy, and it is an unofficial research base into the multiverse at large.

Traveling through the realms is far too dangerous, so the residents of the Academy are stuck where they are. Chase meets several strange characters, including a superhero too anxious to use her powers, a noir detective who doesn't understand color pictures, and a teacher who is a bit too normal to be involved in all this?

But very shortly after Chase arrives, another version of him does as well. Charlie is much more knowledgeable about magic and the multiverse in general - but also has no idea how he got to the Academy or why his magic is blocked off. Chase and Charlie must work together to uncover the mystery while also helping the people around them, all the while becoming aware of higher powers and the story itself working together to stop them from having their happy endings.

About the Project:

Realm Jumper is a dramatic-comedy story about characters from across the multiverse learning about each other and their pasts, while mastering their abilities and dealing with threats to their safety. The show focuses on found family, redemption arcs, and themes of deconstructing and finding new twists on common character tropes. The show's genre leans more towards comedy, but does have intense scenes dealing with trauma and violence.

This series is going to be a web series consisting of voice acting over still art frames. The voice acting will be done on your own time, with a deadline for each episode's lines.

There will be three seasons to the series, with potential for additional content. Please keep this in mind when auditioning, as I would prefer to not have to recast characters. There will be breaks in between seasons - the length of which will be determined by the cast and crew once we approach those times.

Please also be aware of the fact that this show involves characters overcoming their past traumas, so the show will cover some dark or stressful content that some may find uncomfortable. Relevant content warnings listed before episodes may include panic attacks, human experimentation, gaslighting, codependency, toxic power dynamics, and other topics. If you have any specific questions about these content warnings or others, please message me privately and I will gladly elaborate in order to make you feel more at ease.

About the Casting Call:

This casting call is for all the characters who will appear in season one. There will be a casting call for season two once we approach that time.

For the auditions, please do 1-3 takes of the lines in ABCABC format UNLESS THERE IS A SPECIAL NOTE. A few characters have specific requirements for how I would like you to audition, so please keep that in mind and read the character descriptions thoroughly.

Be aware that if casted, you will have to convey a wide variety of emotions. While that is expected, I am emphasizing this fact because you and your microphone must be able to handle crying, yelling, screaming, and similar sounds without losing audio quality.

Please do not submit an audition when you are not at your best. Please do not send in an audition when you are sick; when your microphone is broken; when there are people talking around you, etc. etc. The casting call window is long enough that you can choose to record whenever you and your equipment are at their best.

Be aware that the character's genders are listed in their role info, but you are allowed to audition for any role regardless of your own identity. I suggest not turning on the gender filter in order to see all the roles your voice may fit. I will be choosing voice actors based on how much you embody the character, not based on if your identity matches theirs.

Additional Information:

There are sections here for artists, writers, video editors, and music composers. These positions will not be cast according to CCC, but I will potentially reach out to people who apply for these positions. It will not hurt or help your voice actor audition if you apply for these other positions, but I still highly encourage you to do so, as I won't know if you want to be in that position if you don't try out!

Discord is a soft requirement, as I will primarily communicate through a cast and crew server. If you do not have discord, please let me know.

If you are cast, I will send you a message on CCC to confirm and to coordinate sending you the link to the discord server. If you do not respond within one business day, I will send a follow up message. If you do not respond within three business days, you may forfeit the role.

I will be unavailable from the evening of Sunday, June 12th, until the evening of Tuesday, June 21st. I will answer any questions when I return. Otherwise, I will answer questions when I am able.

If you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to message me on CCC or DM me on discord. My discord is Bubblytarts#2905

Good luck to everyone and thank you so much for checking out the project!

Role assigned to: SleepySheepy

The characters use he/him pronouns, but any gender may audition

SPECIAL NOTE: Chase and Charlie are alternate versions of each other, and so will be voiced by the same actor. Because of this, please read at least two different takes of the audition lines; one as Chase and one as Charlie. You may do more takes if you wish. Before each take, please specify which character you are voicing.

Chase and Charlie should have relatively similar voices, but different enough that when the two are having a conversation there is a difference. Feel free to choose whatever vocal distinction you want.

Chase is the protagonist of the story. He should sound like a happy young adult boy. His voice isn't low, but he does not sound like a child. He is very excitable about everything he sees, and always wants to see the best in people. He's a bit scatterbrained, but it comes from a place of earnestness.

Charlie is the "edgy" version of Chase. Or at least he wants to be. He's not actually as scary as he thinks. Charlie is much more subdued in his excitement, and tries to appear as the "cool guy" in situations. He's very goal oriented. He has missing memories, and his main goal is to get them back - and everything else is second to that.

  • [Upon meeting a new character, who seems very nice and wants to make sure you're okay. They have just asked you how you are]

    (Chase: Slightly scared, mostly joking)

    (Charlie: Slightly suspicious, mostly annoyed)

I guess I'm doing okay for the most part. But can you do me a favor and tell your lab coat friends to back off, because they're coming at me with shiny sticks and I don't appreciate it.

  • [Talking to a character who has hinted that they have superpowers but that they are afraid to use them]

(Chase: Mostly excited, with some comforting undertones)

(Charlie: Trying to sound disinterested, but comes off as encouraging)

Well, I don't care what any of them said about you. Your powers sound super cool. I mean, being able to fly? Who doesn't want that? You're special, and you deserve to be able to show that off.

  • [This is a battle scene. Very intense. Yelling at the enemy]

(Chase: Slightly frightened but mostly disbelieving)

    (Charlie: Outraged and accusatory)

You lied to me. This whole time, all of this was just a game to you. You ran around and acted happy with everyone, and now they're all going to die! Because of you!

Tina Faraland

Role assigned to: Nani

The character uses she/her pronouns, but any gender may audition

SPECIAL NOTE: Please only POC auditions for this role.

Tina is one of Chase's closest friends at the Academy. Her voice is lower but still feminine. She usually talks rather quietly, so her emotion comes from the way that she adds inflections to her speaking.

While Tina and Chase initially butt heads, they quickly learn to become a formidable pair. Chase is instantly smitten with her, but Tina doesn't realize it for a little bit. Tina is very book smart, but she's still learning how to be street smart.

Tina's original realm had magic, but no one works on developing it. Tina is an aura seer, but because she is only now beginning to train her magic, she's not yet good at interpreting auras. She usually can narrow it down to two or three different emotions, but she prefers to not bring it up unless she knows for certain.

  • [After meeting the new kid for the first time, you have been assigned to give him a tour]

(Confused, slightly upset) Me? You want me to guide him around? Ha ha... I really don't think that's necessary. He can figure it out himself. This place isn't that big. Besides, I'm busy.

  • [Explaining her abilities]

(Proud, but humble) It's more like the idea of an emotion more than the actual answer. For example, you've been glowing pink since the moment we met. I just can't decide if that means you hate me or if you want to ask me out. (Pause) Don't answer that.

  • [Just learned crucial information about the enemy. The enemy is confronting her]

(Straight and deadpan. No fear) I'm not stupid. I may not know everything, but I know when someone is lying to my face. And I don't appreciate it.

Role assigned to: Burnt

The character uses he/him pronouns, but any gender may audition

SPECIAL NOTE: Please do at least two takes of this character. Please consult the directions in each line for directions on how to deliver each line.

Luther is a teacher at the Academy, and serves as a dad figure to Chase and other characters. His voice should sound like someone you can trust. He's not old, but he has some good life experience. Leaning towards a lower voice, but that is not a requirement.

As for personality, Luther appears calm, collected, and always ready to lend a helping hand. He comes across as one of those people who always is able to calm you down, or ease a situation with words alone. He's kind and patient, especially to children and teenagers. He clearly loves his job as a teacher.

However, no one can remain calm at all times, and Luther is no exception. If he gets wound up or feels there is an injustice, he is quick to speak his mind, and he may be a bit aggressive about it. He tries to act as a shield from misfortune for other characters, and when he fails, he is very hard on himself.

  • [A character is expressing to you that they feel overwhelmed and afraid in a new situation. You are attempting to have a nice conversation]

    (Take One: Very kind)

    (Take Two: With humor)

I know there's a lot. The plan was to try not to overwhelm you with information during your initial inspection - just in case you weren't feeling great after the jump. However, I have a feeling we weren't as effective in calming you down as we hoped.

  • [You are playing a Table-Top RPG. You are a dungeon master explaining a situation to your players]

(Take One: Overly dramatic DM voice)

(Take Two: Chipper; having a great time DM voice)

The three of you have walked for hours, and you come face to face with a door. You have pursued the enemy, and they are within this keep. You all look at each other, knowing that your adventure is going to end, one way or another. What do you do?

  • [Someone has just gone against your fundamental core values]

(Take One: Silent anger and disappointment)

    (Take Two: Yelling)

You were put in a situation where you could have been the bigger person. You had the power to be anything you wanted. To be kind, or to change the world. And yet you chose to be unnecessarily cruel. To children. How. Dare. You.

Jennifer Corbin

cast offsite

The character uses she/her pronouns, but any gender may audition

Jennifer is one of the lead researchers at the Academy. She is very dedicated to learning about how the Rips work. She speaks very plainly and direct, and her words have almost too much diction. Her voice doesn't convey much emotion unless she feels that she doesn't have control over the situation.

Jennifer has worked for years to perfect herself as the pinnacle of the stereotypical "science woman." She attempts to apply logic to every situation, and is intensely fascinated with anything she doesn't understand. She gets along well enough with adults, but children and teenagers confuse her.

Underneath her carefully constructed facade, Jen is still dealing with childhood trauma that she refuses to acknowledge affected her. Because of this trauma, she has latched onto her younger brother Oliver, creating an unhealthy codependency that affects both of them. Jen wants to ignore her fears and instead move forward - whatever the cost.

  • [Explaining some high tech science to someone who does not understand anything you're saying]

(Starting off confident, becomes annoyed and resigned) Well you see, it's a mix of time magic and wish magic, which I'm sure you're familiar with, and what it does is it reorganizes your very soul into... (heavy sigh) it folds you up to fit you through a crack in the wall of space.

  • [Many people you are mildly uncomfortable with are trying to talk to you while you are trying to get them to leave]

(Fake happy) Yes, well, this has been delightful. I hope that you all come again! Please, please, do not touch that. Don't forget to collect your things. Anything left behind can and will be taken for further study and I doubt you will want it back with the radiation. Ha ha...

  • [Your plan to help out has gone askew, and people you care about are angry with you]

(Crying, desperate) Please listen to me. I would never hurt you. Never. I did this FOR you. I wanted you to be happy. I wanted US to be happy! Just trust me one more time, I promise you that this is a good thing!

Oliver Corbin

Role assigned to: Austin

The character uses he/him pronouns, but any gender may audition

Oliver is Jennifer's younger brother, and he would like to be known as something other than that. Oliver is learning how to be his own person. He speaks very animatedly, and can almost appear childlike in how excited he gets. His vocals lean higher, but a lower voice could work as long as the vocals still feel very light.

Oliver covers many tropes, and he knows this. He knows that he wasn't the protagonist of his original realm, but he's okay with that. He didn't have much control in any aspect of his life until fairly recently, so he's just excited to get to make his own decisions, finally make some friends, and live a 'normal' life.

However, Oliver does harbor quite a few secrets. It's not that he's opposed to telling people what happened to him, but they're bad memories, and so they won't be shared unless someone directly asks. This includes his less than friendly skill set. Also, he keeps the secret of his romantic interest very close to his chest. Everyone else knows, but Oliver doesn't want to stir up problems in the road to his new life.

  • [Someone is interested in your wings]

(Friendly, very open) You can touch, I don't mind! You wouldn't think that two hunks of metal with motor fans in them could get someone off the ground, much less fly around freely, but I was quite well known for my speeding! And I never got a ticket!

  • [Someone has asked about your past. You are attempting to answer their question without giving away your secrets]

(Softly, gratefully) When I reached out, I thought he would throw me out on the street. But, instead, he listened. (Pause) No one had ever listened before. That was the first time that I really felt like I had a shot. Like I could escape.

  • [Battle scene. You are facing an enemy]

(Stone cold, angry) Don't take another step. I knew that something was wrong, but I chose to ignore it. I see now that I shouldn't have. You're not going to get another step closer. (Confidently) You'd have to go through me first.

Role assigned to: Angel

The character uses he/him pronouns, but any gender may audition

Ryder is a noir detective, and he wanted his life to stay that way. However, he was the protagonist of his realm, and so he got dragged into any big events that happened there. His voice should be lower and slightly gruff. He will monologue like in noir detective movies, so his voice should sound correct when doing that.

Ryder is someone who does not like change. He enjoyed being a detective, and everything that came with it. However, he knows that he left his realm in a situation that wouldn't be great for him to return to, so he is content to stay at the Academy for now. But he misses the thrill of figuring out a mystery.

The last mystery he solved was the issue with the Corbin siblings. Ryder not only was glad to solve the mystery, but he also got some good friends out of it. He considers Oliver his best friend, and he tries to get along with Jennifer, but she seems less inclined to make the same effort. Her dislike of him is the current mystery Ryder would like to solve.

  • [You are sitting alone in a room. A group of people are coming to say hello]

(Detective noir monologue voice) I knew the moment that door swung open, he'd have something new for me. Good. Time had passed and I was starting to get restless. Like a starving dog I knew I'd pounce at any opportunity that came my way. I couldn't wait.

  • [You're talking to a group of friends. You're trying to be the de facto leader at this moment]

(Casually, but still speech-like) Okay, so. We need to fan out and search. BUT. Keep it on the down low. Don't raise suspicion. Does anyone have any questions? Okay, sounds great. Meet back here in two... three... uh, just be back here at sunset.

  • [Something terrible has happened, and you are feeling very depressed. Someone is trying to comfort you, but you don't want to hear it]

(Outraged, then shaky sadness) It shouldn't have happened at all! I should have been better, or faster, or done something to help! I promised! (Beat) I promised... and I couldn't get there in time. It's my fault.

Cassie Werner

Role assigned to: Angelina Nicole

The character uses she/her pronouns, but any gender may audition

Cassie is a superhero. And she's one of the most overpowered in her realm. But she certainly doesn't look or act like it. Her voice is very high and airy. Damsel in distress vibes. Her voice should be able to get more volume and power behind it during certain situations though.

Cassie is a very anxious person when it comes to conflict, but otherwise, she's very calm and nice. She's happy at the Academy with her wife, and doesn't particularly want to return to her realm. She's a very pleasant person to be around, and she's a very good listener.

When asked about her life as a superhero, Cassie is either very broad, or will deflect. She will talk about what her powers are, but she doesn't like to use them, or talk too much about her reputation as a superhero. Talking about being a superhero makes her incredibly nervous, and she's likely to leave the conversation.

  • [You're inviting someone new to come sit with you]

(Friendly, giggly) It's nice to meet you. Everyone's been talking about the new kid, and you looked like you could use some time to relax. I'm Cassie.

  • [You've been asked a question that you really don't want to answer. You are trying to escape the situation]

(Extremely nervous) Oh, haha, well yes, I would love to, but unfortunately I have somewhere to be. No no, you don't need to walk me there, I'll be okay, it's just around the corner. I suppose you knew that. I'll see you around, I guess.

  • [Battle scene. You're uncomfortable, but you're going to fight]

(Scared, but mostly determined) No offense you guys, but we're gonna need some stronger firepower than a little lights show. I need you all to stand back. I've got this.

Claire Werner

Role assigned to: Ellie Abbott

The character uses she/her pronouns, but any gender may audition

Claire tells everyone that she is 'just Claire.' She's Cassie's wife and best friend, but Claire is her own person and she's proud of herself. Her voice is a bit tomboyish but it's not low. She talks very casually, like everyone is already her friend. If looking for a slight vocal distinction, try a very slight drawl (not necessary; just an option)

Claire is very assertive, and a very friendly person. She's incredibly loyal, and she's willing to do anything to help her friends and family. She supports Cassie as a superhero as well, and is ready to fight anyone who says otherwise. Her job back in her own realm was a night guard at the natural history museum.

It's not hard to figure out that Claire wishes she could help Cassie with her anxiety. Claire wants to find ways to either prove to Cassie that her abilities are good, or to take some of the burden away from Cassie. At the moment, she's content to stay and just be supportive, but Claire really wants to find a long term solution.

  • [You approve of what someone said. You chased after them to tell them as such]

(Grateful, but casual) Hey, kid! What you said back there, that was really sweet. You've got a good head on your shoulders. If you ever need anything, or like, advice, you know where to find me.

  • [Someone is arguing with you. You're about to snap]

(Angry, trying to hold back) Who exactly do you think you are? You're talking an awful big game right now mister, and I suggest you shut your mouth. Attitude doesn't get you anywhere.

  • [Trying to calm someone down]

(Soft, comforting) Look at me, really look. You're okay. I promise you, that everything is going to be fine. Breathe with me for just a minute, it's alright. You're doing great. I love you, okay?

The characters use he/they pronouns, but any gender may audition

SPECIAL NOTE: Gilligan and Nemo are alternate versions of each other, and so will be voiced by the same actor. Because of this, please read at least two different takes of the audition lines; one as Gill and one as Nemo. You may do more takes if you wish. Before each take, please specify which character you are voicing.

Gilligan and Nemo should have relatively similar voices, however they are too different characters and their voices should sound different. Gill is older, and has a lower, grittier voice, while Nemo is much younger, and has a high pitched, more youthful voice.

Gilligan is one of the lead researchers at the Academy. He is very strict, and likes having everything neat. They don't appreciate people interfering with their research, and he will kick them out of his lab if they interrupt. He is good friends with Jennifer and Luther, and cares for them deeply. They are the one who is most focused on studying Rips, and he wants to bring back the Realm Jumper program sometime.

Nemo is Gill from much earlier in his life, but they did lead different lives. Nemo is a fearsome pirate captain, and like many pirates, he is driven by the hunt for treasure. Nemo is actually very kind and curious, but they are committed to living the pirate fantasy, and won't break the facade easily. Although, they would love to feel like they had a trusty crew.

  • [You have come across someone who has a type of magic that interests you]

    (Gill: Objective scientific fascination)

    (Nemo: Playful creepiness)

Wish magic, hmm? You don't see a lot of that just running around. Mind telling me about your experiences? I'm sure you've been able to pull off some... interesting spells.

  • [There's an incoming threat. You are preparing your group to deal with it]

(Gill: Militaristic, but with worry underneath)

    (Nemo: Showmanship excitement)

We're expecting the attack from the West. Everyone stay in formation. If your weapons fail you... pray to whatever god you came from.

  • [You are trying to keep someone calm when they want to take action immediately]

    (Gill: Trusting, but concerned)

    (Nemo: Worried and fearful)

It's the same as before, isn't it? Well, in that case, you have a lot to do. But right now, just for this moment, I want you to tell me what I can do to help.

Amy Bradberry

Role assigned to: MissyMae33

The character uses she/her pronouns, but any gender may audition

SPECIAL NOTE: Amy becomes a much more important character in seasons two and three, however, in season one, she is only present in a few flashbacks. The significance of this character will go from "Minor" to "Lead" once season two begins. Keep that in mind when auditioning.

Amy is Chase's younger sister. She is a young teen, and she's very energetic. Amy has no problem standing up for herself, and is fiercely protective of her friends and family. Her voice is not low. Interpretations are open to try for 'nasally young child' or 'more mature teen voice' or any combination in between. But Amy's voice should have a lot of energy to match her personality.

Amy is very bouncy and never seems to run out of energy. She's always willing to try something new, and when she puts her mind to something, she'll never back down. She may be physically small, but she makes up for it with her personality. However, because of that, she can be a bit stubborn.

Chase and Amy have an incredibly close bond. They're thick as thieves, and they both would do anything for each other. Although Chase doesn't know it, if he were to disappear suddenly, Amy would make the gods bend in order to get him back. Amy doesn't fear anything, which does get her in trouble, but she's always ready to get back up and try again.

  • [You are spending time with a new friend, and they have asked you what you've been up to recently]

(Nonchalant humor) Well, you know, went a full week with no sleep, threw a rock at a god, bit someone who looked suspicious, haha, I've been busy!

  • [You've been offered a deal that sounds too good to be true]

(Suspicious, but still without tact) So what's the catch? I've read storybooks, I know how this goes. This is the part where you take my voice or my eyes or make me your servant after death, right?

  • [Someone you care about is stressed out. You're trying to comfort them]

(Kindly, but with confusion) Listen, I wasn't there, I don't know what happened. But I know you. If you want to extend an olive branch, then go for it. You're the one person that could make anyone turn around after all of this.

What This Position Contains:

Realm Jumper will have a team of artists that will work together to create art for each episode. The art will be still images that will enhance each scene. The amount of art per episode will fluctuate, and each artist will be able to choose their workload per episode.

There will be sign-ups sent out per episode - containing prompts for art is needed for that episode. The sign ups will be first come first serve (with some limits), and artists will select which piece(s) they want to create. The artist may fulfill the prompt however they wish, and they will have until the deadline to work at their own pace and finish the art.

Disclaimer:

This position will not be filled on CCC. I may DM people who do not submit art to the artist position. This position on CCC is just an easy way to find people who are interested.

What to Submit:

Please submit either a link to your portfolio or a google drive with pieces you wish to present. There is a minimum of three pieces.

If neither of those ways work for you, please message me on CCC or DM me on Discord and we can attempt to work something out.

What This Position Contains:

Realm Jumper is a large project, and so while I would love to write the whole series myself, it is just not feasible. So I will be bringing in a few other writers to help write a few episodes. Each episode will be written in script format, with small asides and descriptions to help both the voice actors and the artists. Each writer will be able to choose their own workload.

There will be a list of episodes released at the beginning of the season. I will potentially have marked off some episodes that I personally will be writing, but the rest will be available for the writing team to take if they want. The writer will be largely writing on their own at their own pace. We will work together to make sure the script is finalized by its deadline.

The writers will have ample opportunity to pitch episode ideas or additional scenes if they want to.

I may reach out to specific people on the writing team if I feel their writing style or interests correspond well to a certain episode.

Disclaimer:

This position will not be filled on CCC. I may DM people who do not submit work to the writer position here on CCC. This position on CCC is just an easy way to find people who are interested who I may not know already.

What to Submit:

Please submit a link to some written work you wish to present. This may consist of google docs, ao3, literary websites, or other sources. This written work should show off your skills at writing dialogue and character voice.

Script is preferred, but prose is accepted. Fanfiction is highly discouraged, but still allowed.

Maximum word count of an individual piece submitted should not exceed 5,000 words.

If none of those ways work for you, please contact me either on CCC or Discord and we can attempt to work something out.

Realm Jumper is a large project, and so while I have no problem doing a majority of the editing myself, if I can get some assistance, that would be great to help speed along the process. Each editor would be able to choose their own workload.

When an episode is close to having all its assets complete, I will ask the editing team if anyone is interested in taking it on.

Editing an episode would consist of putting together the voice acting, art, music, sound effects, and other specialty aspects. Editors would be able to work together, and there would be plenty of open communication.

This position will not be filled on CCC. I may message people who do not submit work to the position here on CCC. This position on CCC is just an easy way to find people who are interested who I may not know already.

What to Submit:

Please submit a link to some music you wish to present. This may consist of google docs, ao3, literary websites, or other sources. This musical  work should show off your skills at using music programs and understanding how to make a good score.

Instrumental is preferred, but lyrical work is accepted. However, at least one track must be instrumental only.

Minimum length of the instrumental piece is 30 seconds.

If something here does not work for you, please contact me either on CCC or Discord and we can attempt to work something out.
