R'lyeh
Project Overview
UPDATE:
We have gotten some really great auditions for the casting call, both for Elias Frost and Frank, the AI. We're going to be going through them over the 14th-15th (January) to decide on who's the perfect fit. I do want to say that I haven't heard a single one so far (and I listen to them all) that isn't awesome, so if you aren't picked, I will still do what I can to happily recommend you forward.
R'lyeh was a passion project that has really started to explode in interest through the gaming community. We've been getting a ton of support from all over, and I think this is going to be a great opportunity for everyone involved.
While we will be selecting the two main characters, a new one is going to be casted, so the deadline for the projects' casting call will be extended. This extension is NOT for the two main characters, but for the new guy.
Ch'xul:
Once an incredibly intelligent creature, Ch’xul served as the highest level of priest for the Elder Beings. In particular, he was dedicated to the great nautiloid, Ithia, daughter of Zathog. After her death and the Old Gods finally being driven away, Ch’xul went on a mission to find a way to put the ever-maddening Elder Beings into an eternal slumber. In this, he surmised, they would by instinct protect the planet if the Old Gods returned, but would not lose their minds or contaminate the remaining life there with their growing madness. Over time and from exposure, Ch’xul himself steadily went more insane, struggling to keep what he could of his intellect. He documented his experiences and story during his travels, which Elias finds later. Ch’xul is never actually seen, so the player is left to imagine what he might look like. There are some very rough reliefs etched into ruins here and there of his people, but nothing very distinct.
Anyone may audition for him, so please feel welcome to!
R'lyeh is a story-driven, open-world Horror and Survival game with a scifi twist.
It follows the story of Elias Frost, a lone survivor who crash-lands on a mysterious planet. Earth has been decimated by monstrous beings and the last of humanity scurried to send ships into space. They were hoping to find a new world to colonize and re-establish mankind. After a devastating incident, Elias is left alone on R’lyeh with a precious cargo; cryogenically frozen human embryos. He must fight to build a home in which they can be born and not just survive, but thrive. There is much more to R’lyeh’s overcast islands, however. Something dreadful that Elias must come to understand if he wishes for any chance to live.

Elias has just crash-landed on a mystery planet after watching his entire crew go mad and kill themselves. He is feeling a huge mixture of emotions. Terror of what has happened, shock that he's alive, exhaustion from the entire ordeal. How would you feel, in this moment, as you look out through the window and see an entire new world? You have survived, yet nobody else has, and for all you know, you are the last of humanity.
With Elias is a cryo containment chamber full of frozen human embryos. These are your most precious cargo. Everything now relies on you, a simple mechanic, building a new home for a new humanity.
Elias: "I... I'm alive. I made it."
He takes a moment to catch his breath.
Elias: "Okay... I need to check on the cryo-chamber."Elias: "Alright, let's see if this still works. Computer?"
AI informs Elias he does not have permissions to access the cryo-chamber.
Elias: "Are there any other survivors?"
AI informs Elias he is the crew member detected. The AI then upgrades Elias' status to acting commander and congratulates him on said promotion.
Elias: "Not how I was planning to get promoted."Upon finding the first signs of ancient alien ruins.
Elias: "What... is this..?"
Elias: "Computer, are you getting this?"
The AI is forever an important part of the game, and interacts constantly with Elias. In time, he gives it the nickname of 'Frank' and attempts to ease his loneliness of isolation by trying to have various bits of small-talk. Frank is well-equipped with useful information, but has a difficult time processing Elias' human social needs.
Frank sounds similar to your typical Alexa/Google voice service. 'He' is always pleasant and chipper sounding, even when informing the player that they are dying of some unknown toxin or a massive, bleeding wound.
As for Frank's overall voice and tone, I'd like to leave much of this to the person voicing him. It just needs to sound like an AI (not robotic, but still clearly lacking human emotion). Other than that, I'm all about artistic liberty.
Elias: "Alright, let's see if this still works. Computer?"
AI: "Greetings, Elias Frost. You are unauthorized to access the cryogenic containment chamber."
Elias: "Are there any other survivors?"
AI: "Scanning... no other crew members detected. Elias Frost rank upgraded to Acting Commander. Congratulations on your promotion."Elias: "Computer, are you getting this?"
AI: "It appears to be ruins constructed from local natural resources."
AI: "I am detecting nearby lifeforms."Elias: "Y'know what I could go for right now, Frank? A friggin' hot dog. With all the works. One of those cheap convenience store ones."
AI: "Consuming hotdogs would increase your potential for flatulence, which could alert nearby enemies. A diet low in sodium is advised."

After her 'death' and the Old Gods finally being driven away, Ch’xul went on a mission to find a way to awaken ever-maddening Elder Beings from their eternal slumber. In this, he surmised, they would by instinct protect the planet if the Old Gods returned, but would not lose their minds or contaminate the remaining life there with their growing, dreaming madness. Over time and from exposure, Ch’xul himself steadily went more insane, struggling to keep what he could of his intellect. He documented his experiences and story during his travels, which Elias finds later. Ch’xul is never actually seen, so the player is left to imagine what he might look like. As an alien, Ch'xul shouldn't sound human. However you would like to interpret this, we leave to your artistic choice.
Ch'xul: "Thing is working? Ch'xul not understand these." Shuffling and rustling sounds for a moment.
"Ithia went to long sleep. Got broken by outer thing from beneath. What does Ch'xul do without god? Ch'xul will be bad priest, then. Must find other Old Ones. Must warn them of outer things."
Ch'xul sounds distant here, as though something is distracting his mind.
"She came to Ch'xul in dream. Must go east. Must find the king in yellow."
