Project Odyssey

Project Odyssey

Project Overview

INTRODUCTION

PROJECT ODYSSEY is the working title for our upcoming Minecraft machinima: a cosmic horror short film set in a fantasy world. The story follows a group of scholars as they embark on an expedition to research a potent, but dangerous, new discovery...

I am Raphael Pacheco, the writer, producer, and voice director behind PROJECT ODYSSEY, and welcome to our open casting call!

EXPECTATIONS

So what are we looking for in our talent? Though our budget is small, these are paid roles, so at minimum we would request that you have a decent microphone and a good recording environment. Naturally, a professional and friendly attitude is a huge plus, and taking direction is a must. Much of the dialogue is intended to be rather fast paced, and features vocabulary that some might find difficult (given the academic nature of the characters). So be aware of those challenges if you plan to audition.

THE PROCESS

Final casting decisions will be made on November 20th. If you land a role, we will be in touch to schedule voiceover sessions throughout the remainder of this year. We primarily use Discord for communication, but if you have another preference such as Skype, Zoom, or any other platform, accommodations can be made.

All sessions will be held in a live call, with you recording locally on your end while I give direction. I will be the voice director, but the machinima director and other producers may also be present.

After you have finished and sent all of your recordings, you will be paid 5.5 cents ($0.055) USD per word, rounded to the nearest dollar, with each character's total listed on this casting call. I'm not opposed to some improvisation if the inspiration strikes you, but you will only be paid for your character's written words. You will also be responsible for providing your own means of receiving payment. PayPal is our preferred method, but if you have another equally convenient preference then feel free to utilize it.

  • Cast Announcement

The time has come to announce our final casting decisions... Thanks again to ALL who submitted. We close this casting call with a whopping 78 auditions, which is by far the biggest response we've ever received for any of our projects. Though these certainly weren't the only excellent auditions, alas, with only 5 roles, we had to boil it down to the best of the best based on the quality of the performance and our criteria for these characters. So without further ado, here is the official cast for PROJECT ODYSSEY: - Alexander Doddy as Dasa - Westy as Varuna - Katabelle as Anila - Parallel Dimension as Shea - JP Wright as Chancellor Veran Congrats to the cast! We're excited to work with you in cultivating strong performances for this short. I will be in touch with each of you to schedule sessions. For those who didn't make the cut: rest assured, we have bigger paid projects planned for the near future that will no doubt be casted through this platform. So stay tuned! Also, we noted a handful of runner-ups for future reference, so a few of you may yet be hearing from us down the line... Nothing remains for me but to once again congratulate the cast and thank you all for your participation. We hope you tune in to watch the machinima short when it drops next year under its official title... https://www.youtube.com/c/PacProPro/
  • Midpoint Update

Whoa. The casting call has been live for little more than 7 days and we've already nearly 50 auditions! Thank you all very much for submitting! This is by far the biggest casting response we've ever received, and needless to say we're excited by the prospects. There have been so many high quality submissions, and my only gripe is that we can only cast five of you. But rest assured, I (and the other producers) listen to every single audition, and we're taking notes on talent we may want to work with on future projects with much larger casts. So even if you don't land a role in Project Odyssey, P3 may still have a paid role for you down the line. Six days remain for this casting call, so if you haven't already, there is still yet time to submit an audition! The call will close and final casting decisions will be announced on November 20th. While competition is fierce (and we certainly have some favorites so far) our decisions are by no means set in stone, so we look forward to hearing any remaining submissions. Again, thank you all very much for taking part! We look forward to discovering our cast come next Friday.

Paid: Flat Rate 25 USD
Role assigned to: AlexanderDoddy

A professor of enchantment at a prestigious university. Firm, serious, and eloquent, but also a man of strong morals. As a prominent intellectual and scholar, he's interested in pushing the bounds of knowledge, but only within ethical limits. Some lines he will not cross.

  • (Lecturing)  Tools are only as effective as their wielders. Therefore it is not just the improvement of items that the capable enchanter strives for. But rather, the improvement of knowledge.

  • I'm confident we can overcome that obstacle, but we should take caution. We're dealing with matters beyond our understanding.

  • (Passionate) You’re on the edge of madness! I’ll have no part in it.

Role assigned to: Westy

A professor of engineering at a prestigious university, and an old friend/rival of Dasa's. He's smart, pragmatic, and ambitious. As an engineer, he tends to concern himself with solving problems and getting things done. Being somewhat conceited, he's also willing to further his own career by any means necessary.

  • (Casual, joking) Good to see your rousing speeches still impress the undergrads.

  • Rest assured, our resources will mitigate the danger.

  • Do not shy away from greatness. This is what we came here for. I'll settle for no less!

Role assigned to: Katabelle Ansari

An alchemist in residence at a prestigious university, and an old companion to Dasa. Friendly and amicable. A natural supporter, she'll go out of her way to defuse conflict and ensure everyone around her gets along. She has a heart for people, and genuinely desires to resolve social issues. But she's idealistic to a fault, and will pursue what she thinks is right no matter the cost.

  • (Casual) Good to see you. It's been a long time.

  • These potions should bring us most of the way. But bear in mind: they last only a few minutes.

  • (Pleading) But imagine all the good we could do with but a fraction of that power. Do you not find it worth the risk?

A professor of alchemy at a prestigious university. Blunt and pragmatic. More than willing to speak their mind when necessary, but otherwise reserved.

The accent field lists Scottish, but Irish is also acceptable.

  • You seem awfully fearful.

  • There wasn't much on the other end. I say we head this way.

The chancellor of a prestigious university. Confident, with a strong sense of leadership. Always professional, courteous, and upright. His very presence inspires respect.

  • Your expertise will surely prove valuable.

  •  This manuscript contains the details preluding our expedition. But allow me to summarize.
