Pretty Kitties: Episode 1 (Episodic Audio Drama)
Project Overview
Serenade City is known for many things: Its extremely varied and profitable economy being among them. By day, Serenade's many shops, food stalls, events, and the like bring in families from all over Serenia to indulge and enjoy. When the sun goes down, however, the night scene of Serenade City roars to life. One of Serenade City's most profitable aspects is its devotion to adult entertainment, and one such facet of this entertainment are Serenade's exotic clubs. Pretty Kitties is one of the newest but most successful of these clubs. The story follows Piper Mitts, a young woman who, after getting fired from her day job, finds herself involved with a life she never expected: the life of an exotic dancer.
To audition for this project, you need:
- A good quality microphone and recording space. Note that I'm not looking for perfect, professional quality (I understand that not everyone has access to that equipment, and it would be unfair to ask for high-grade equipment for an unpaid project), but it also shouldn't sound horrendous. In addition, do not do any editing to your audition yourself (noise reduction is fine). Record it as dry (without effects) as possible.
- A Discord account, or be able to make one if you are cast. Discord will be our main form of communication throughout the project's phases. Note that you don't need to be active in the discord; I only ask that you check it every so often for any updates or critique.
- The ability to record into and send WAV files. MP3 is fine for the audition, but if cast, you need to be able to record and send WAV. If you need assistance with this and you are cast, I will gladly help you!
If you are cast for this project, you will be given a copy of the script and be given up to two weeks from the time casting is complete and the project officially begins to record all necessary lines and submit them. If you can get it done faster, that is not only encouraged, but greatly appreciated. However, do not rush! Take your time and do things right to minimize redos. You are also encouraged to ask any and all questions you may have in the discord.
This is an episodic project, and most of the main/supporting cast appear in every episode. This project will require a degree of commitment for a few months. We will focus on two episodes at a time after Episode 1 is finished.
I am aiming to have eight episodes in the full season.
This project is unpaid. While I appreciate CCC for implementing more detailed options when it comes to budgets, none of the available options fit my circumstance. To be honest, The project is unpaid simply because I have no budget. While I do have loads of fun creating these projects, I do them with the intention of this all leading somewhere, not just for fun!
I'd like to also state that I keep contact with actors who perform well and that I truly enjoy working with. You'll be the first to know about new projects I'm working on, and you will be among the first to be offered paid work once that is a reality for me. I hope that my word is enough for you to take a chance on me!
If you wish to see some of my previous work, check the links below!
- Game of Hearts is a one-shot about two friends, Sabrina Larson and Vivienne Shields, who meet up three years after graduating college to catch up over a card game titled "Game of Hearts".
- Interrogations is a teaser for a previously upcoming series about the death of Scott Williams, a star college football player, that is invested by Blake Bauer, in a bizarre case where all four suspects are women. While this project is currently cancelled, I may bring it back in the future.
- The Interview is a one-shot about a man, James Lombardi, who goes to a job interview for a job he found online. He knows little about this job other than where the interview is being held. His interviewer, a woman who refers to herself as "Applegate", seems normal... or is she?
- TimeScape Training Tape is a one-shot, semi-immersive experience in which you, the listener, are a new potential recruit for TimeScape, a company that has learned how to record, distribute, and market the memories of people.
- Cold Sauce is a one-shot about a businesswoman, Janice Lowe, who is a frequent user of Cold Sauce, a drug popular in the Rockford district of Serenade City. Janice meets with her dealer, Cypher, and learns that he's raised the price of his product.
- Nightcall Radio is a one-shot following Frank Aspen, a radio host who finds his normally routine shift disrupted by a crazed caller.
- The Serenia Files is a series in which Amelia Aspen, an employee of the White Lotus organization, investigates hidden away files that may hide secrets about her employer. Currently only the first episode is released.
- The Interview: Ellie's is a one-shot similar to "The Interview". Bryleigh Brewer interviews for a night security position at Ellie Oswald's Ice Cream Emporium. Her interviewer, Carl Chambers, fills her in on her duties, one of which involves keeping an eye on the establishment's animatronic staff.
This project will be distributed through Anchor, which will further distribute it to a number of services such as Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, PocketCast, Breaker, and many more!

Majority of roles cast! Julie Sakiyama still open
Hello everyone! Firstly, thank you to everyone who auditioned! There were a lot of good auditions, the most of any project I've done so far! Still, I'm missing one important character: Julie Sakiyama. Auditions for Julie will be extended until the 26th of July. If you didn't get another role you auditioned for, you may take a shot at Julie! -
Updated Casting Schedule
Hello everyone! I intended to send this update out earlier, but sadly, unexpected circumstances came up. Casting was intended to take place July 21st; instead, it will begin on the 22nd, and will continue over the 23rd and (possibly) the 24th. The main purpose for this updated schedule is two-fold; first, it gives me ample time to select the best fitting actor for each role. Hasty casting decisions have been a mistake of mine in the past, I must admit. Secondly, if you are not cast for a role you auditioned for, it'll give you a little time to consider any remaining open role, if you want! That said, please be aware that *the role of Piper will be more heavily considered than the others*. I'm less willing to compromise with Piper than the other roles, so if you audition for her, you'll need to really nail it. As such, she *may take longer to cast than other roles*. Thank you for being patient and for showing interest in this project! I can't wait to get started! -
Casting will take place July 21st
If you received critique and wanted to submit a new audition, you have until 8pm Eastern Time on the 20th to do so!
Piper is the main protagonist of "Pretty Kitties." She is intelligent yet unsure of herself in many ways. She speaks with a level of grace and honesty that captivates people easily, though this persona of hers falls apart fairly quickly if she gets frazzled or frustrated.
- Age: 22 years old
- Ethnicity: Caucasian
- Origin: Serenia (Real World Equivalent: The United States of America)
- Accent: Serenian (North American)
- Speech pattern: Fluid and well articulated when calm; when frazzled or frustrated, she often stumbles over words or stutters.
[Speaking with Faith about how Piper ended up dancing] I came here to apply for a bartender position, and next thing I knew, here I am. I just don’t know what to do. Am I supposed to dance or something?
[Speaking with Lani about working at Pretty Kitties] The truth is, I'm out of work otherwise, so I may as well take advantage of my position at PK so I can at least keep money in my pocket.
[After giving a stage performance and receiving applause from the crowd] Thank you so much for sticking around to watch my show! I love each and every one of you! Hopefully I'll see you all tomorrow night!
Faith Moore is one of the longest-lasting dancers at Pretty Kitties, having worked there almost since it opened four years prior to the events of the story. Like Piper, she is very intelligent, but she is far more composed and steadfast. Faith is very sarcastic, but also very caring, and always looks after the other girls.
- Age: 26 years old
- Ethnicity: Caucasian
- Origin: Aegis Republic (Real World Equivalent: United Kingdom)
- Accent: Capital Aegisian (English, Received Pronunciation)
- Speech Pattern: Very proper, composed, and confident
Hey, Eric. Who’s the new kid? [After Eric explains Piper is there for a bartending job] That's a surprise. I thought you might be a new dancer. I didn't think we were hiring for bartenders.
[Explaining to Piper what she needs to do at Pretty Kitties] The most important thing to remember is that we're not just dancers here: we also wait tables. Mostly, you’ll be walking around, taking orders and delivering drinks and food. I heard you have some experience with that already.
[Speaking to Piper before work] I took the liberty of buying you a few new outfits. Take a look and see what you like. And no, you don't have to pay me back, so long as you wear them.
Julie Sakiyama is a brash and outspoken member of the Pretty Kitties staff. While she can be rude, she ultimately means no harm to those she speaks to. Julie says what's on her mind, often to her detriment, but you could never tell her that: she'd just laugh at you.
While Julie's accent is listed as "North American", if you have a Japanese accent, it's a plus!
- Age: 21 years old
- Ethnicity: Mixed, Japanese & Caucasian
- Origin: Japan
- Accent: Serenian (North American)
- Speech Pattern: Slighty aggressive when calm, very aggressive when angry. "Street" manner of speaking; some may even call it "ghetto".
[When first meeting Piper] You're new, huh? I’m Julie Sakiyama, and no, before you ask, Julie is not my birth name.
[Speaking with Piper after her first night] Be sure to come tonight. Faith and I could use your help with this thing. Besides, you're out of work, girl. You need the money. I mean, not really, you made a fuck ton the first time, but it'll run out, you know.
[Talking to a young woman interested in working at Pretty Kitties but afraid of being touched] Jeez, what the hell are they feeding you at school? Guys are gonna touch you, cream puff, simple as that. I mean, you can tell them not to, but I'm gonna guess you ain't making a lot of money that way.
Candice Locke is the oldest member of the Pretty Kitties, both in age and employment, as well as the most experienced, having worked in adult entertainment long before joining Pretty Kitties. Accustomed to the life of using her body for profit, Candice isn't bothered by most of the types of men that seek out her services, and she has a wealth of knowledge that she bestows onto the younger girls... if she feels like it, of course.
- Age: 30 years old
- Ethnicity: Caucasian
- Origin: Serenia (North America)
- Accent: Serenian (North American)
- Speech Pattern: Sultry and flirtatious, hints of sarcasm
[To Piper when she's worried about her performance] You should be fine. Move your hips a bit and half the guys out there will be smitten right away and want to throw money your way. It's honestly the easiest money you'll make all night.
[Seeing Piper early in the morning] Wow, if this is what you look like with bedhead, I can see why you're so pretty when you put your face on.
[About the younger girls being late] As usual, we show up early, and the rest of these tweens show up right before we open the doors.
Lani Kalili is a young Hawaiian woman who is the most recent member before Piper to join the Pretty Kitties. She is the youngest member, but also one of the most well-spoken and mature. Though quiet, she exhibits a wisdom beyond her years, and prides herself on being the voice of peace and reason in the group.
- Age: 19
- Ethnicity: Hawaiian
- Origin: Hawaii
- Accent: Serenian (A good Hawaiian accent is a plus!)
- Speech Pattern: Very proper and relatively slow to improve enunciation of words.
[To Piper when planning a night out] I would much appreciate your attendance, Piper. We have yet to do anything fun together, and this would be a great first experience.
Aloha. I’m Lani. It’s really nice to meet you. My stage name is “Maluhia”, the Hawaiian word for “peace”. It’s a bit of a mouthful, I know.
[After seeing Piper by surprise at a local park] I did not expect to see you in the park. It's so close by, but none of the other girls ever come here, by my knowledge.
Scarlet Byrne is a full blown Irish gal, and has a lot of spunk and a bite that is certainly worse than her bark. Scarlet finds insults to be the sincerest form of flattery... at least, that's what people tell themselves, because Scarlet is hardly nice to anyone.
- Age: 20 years old
- Ethnicity: Irish
- Origin: Aegis Republic (Real World Equivalent: United Kingdom)
- Accent: Irish
- Speech Pattern: Prideful Abrasiveness
Scarlet Byrne, full blown Irish gal, at your service.
[To Piper about what to do on the show floor] You've just gotta mingle a bit. It’s kind of like being at a party, except you’re the main attraction. Here, let me help you. Come with me.
[When seeing the inside of Piper's car] Maker, your car is clean as a dog's arse. You never eat in here?
Eric Watson is the sole bartender at Pretty Kitties. He handles his position with skill and technique, even on the busiest of nights. Despite his statement to Piper, he is the current owner of Pretty Kitties. Eric looks after the girls to the best of his ability, but his need to balance care for his dancers and satisfaction of his customers is constantly tugging at him.
- Age: 29 years old
- Ethnicity: Any
- Origin: Serenia (USA)
- Accent: Any
- Speech Pattern: Casual, friendly when calm. Stern when angry/frustrated.
[To Piper when first hiring her] Now, if I recall correctly, you said you’d never done this before, right? No schooling or anything? Don’t worry, it’s not as hard as it looks. You can pick up on the basics, at the very least.
Between you and me, I’m basically the owner. The actual owner doesn’t spend much time in the club. He mostly just makes decisions and deals with money.
Hey girls, we open in five. I need you all out here and ready to go. We want Piper to have a good first night.
Matt Mansley is Piper's boss at Winding Oaks Cafe, where she is promptly fired from. Though Matt likes Piper, he has grown impatient with her work ethic. He is stern and rather unpleasant.
Once you arrive to work, Piper, meet me in my office the second you step into the building. If I even so much as think you’ve gone somewhere else first, we are going to have a problem.
A cashier at a convenience store that Piper visits. They are very dry and mundane. Can be male or female.
Application's are over there. Fill it out somewhere other than here and bring it back.
A coworker of Piper's at Winding Oaks Cafe. She isn't exactly friends with Piper, but she takes Piper's side against Matt's constant criticisms.
Listen, you are in deep shit, you know? Matt is pissed off right now, and he is going to fire you!
Mangus is an incredibly strange and eccentric man. He has been visiting Pretty Kitties for years and has spent untold amounts of money at the establishment. His personality is very off-putting to many of the dancers, to the point where many suspect he is the reason why a lot of dancers quit.
- Introduced In: Chapter 2
- Age: 38 years old
- Ethnicity: Caucasian
- Origin: Serenia (North America)
- Accent: Serenian (North American)
- Speech Pattern: Very energetic and eccentric. His excitement in the presence of the dancers at Pretty Kitties is overbearing.
[To Piper] You know, I was really hoping to spend some alone time with you. I saw you walking around when I first arrived tonight and knew I just had to get a hold of you.
Honesty is rare to find these days, especially in this industry. That honesty will get you far anywhere but here. But maybe you can make it work for you!
My time spent with you seems to always be wonderful, Jade. I only hope that we may spend much more together.
