Pirates! Audio Production Recast
Project Overview
Several roles need recasting for this project! Be forewarned, that if you're cast, I will be requesting dialogue be finished somewhat quickly, at least by end of year!
Nancy Kington, daughter of a rich merchant, suddenly orphaned when her father dies, is sent to live on her family's plantation in Jamaica. Disgusted by the treatment of the slaves and her brother's willingness to marry her off, she and one of the slaves, Minerva, run away and join a band of pirates.
For both girls the pirate life is their only chance for freedom in a society where both are treated like property, rather than individuals. Together they go in search of adventure, love, and a new life that breaks all restrictions of gender, race, and position. Told through Nancy's writings, their adventures will appeal to readers across the spectrum and around the world.
This book by Celia Rees has been an absolute favorite of mine since I was very young. Its been a dream to make a film of it since I first read it, but I don't have the means or budget so an audio production was the next best thing! I've been in contact with the author in regards to making this legally, as a non profit production.
This story touches on delicate topics- slavery, racism, and violence against women. It is extremely important to me that we represent these in the most honest way possible.

William is a young man a little older than Nancy. They were close as children, and when they grew older, fell in love. He's dependable, brave, but not a harsh man, he has a warm heart.
His accent should be British, preferably!

Bartolome is our villain. When he wants something, he covets it. He has no limit to what he will do to achieve his goals. He wishes to marry Nancy, as a financial transaction between families. He's very cunning. He is often referred to just as "The Brazilian." He speaks, I believe, Portuguese, but never aloud in the book.

Joseph is Nancy's brother. Selfish, haughty, and often drunk, his respect for those around him is essentially non existent. He's rude and greedy.
Joseph should have a British accent!
Warning: this character has racist dialogue. While I don't agree with the character's lines and motivations, in being truthful to the book, we will be keeping all lines as they were.

Just looking for one or two people who can lend their voices to several different male characters. Someone with a lot of vocal variety!

Looking for a female voice actress who can deliver two characters with differing personas- Susan (a lady's maid) and Alice (a tavern keeper/prostitute) . Both roles are fairly small.
