Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Fandub!

Project Overview

This project will be uploaded to Youtube.  Episodes will be split into Investigations and Trials.

Please make sure you're truly dedicated, as this game is extremely dialogue-heavy!  Each character, even the minor ones, have lots of dialogue!  Keep this in mind when auditioning!

Please feel free to audition for multiple characters, and be dedicated if you get cast for more than one!  There's many side characters, which will be added as time goes on!  Thanks so much for checking out this project!

  • Final Deadline

Hello everyone! Sorry that I haven't posted an update in a while. - The First Turnabout is 95% completed/edited and I am hoping to upload it in early November. - October 26th is the final deadline. I will cast the rest of the parts that week/weekend! If I still want to wait a little longer for certain characters, I will keep them open for auditions past said date. Even though the deadline may say a date other than the 26th, October 26th is still when I will be casting all (if not, most) of the remaining roles! Thank you all for hyping up the project and/or sticking around since June. I'm so glad lots of people are in support of it, and I hope the final product meets your expectations! Make sure to subscribe to the Youtube channel, and I will update again either when roles are cast or when I know the official upload date of The First Turnabout. <3!
  • Casting/Updates!

Hello everyone! Thank you for over 100 auditions!! I'm so excited to start casting and get this project moving! I will begin casting leads, as well as characters that appear in the first chapter, throughout the week of August 13th - unless something comes up of course. The deadline will be moved back to late September. This is not the set deadline, as I will keep this project up so more auditions can pour in for parts with less auditions. If you get cast for a role, be on the lookout for a Discord link in your inbox so you can join the server! Once everyone is in, we'll begin recording. I'm so excited to talk to you all and work with you! I hope you're all having a great summer :D

Role assigned to: TunnelBerg

Phoenix Wright, the protagonist of the Ace Attorney series.  He can be quite clueless and dorky at times, but always finds a way to solve the case and carry out his duty as a lawyer.  You'll have many lines, so make sure you're dedicated when you audition!

  • My name is Phoenix Wright.  Here's the story: My first case is a fairly simple one.  A young woman was killed in her apartment.  The guy they arrested was the unlucky sap dating her:  Larry Butz... my best friend since grade school.

  • The autopsy notes the time of death at sometime after 4 P.M.. There was nobody to... er... no "body" to find at 1:00 PM!

  • Hold it right there!  The prosecution has said there was a blackout at the time of the discovery!  And this record proves it!  You couldn't have heard a television... or a video!

Role assigned to: floralninjachan

Maya is Mia's little sister and Phoenix's case partner.  Maya is spunky, perky, excitable, and outgoing. She exudes a childlike personality, being both impulsively curious and easily confused. She often acts without thinking things through, tries to touch strange objects without restraint, and goes on tangents that quickly stop making sense.  Despite her childish and seemingly naïve nature, Maya has demonstrated wisdom through many grueling trials. She is stubborn and persistent, looking out for those she cares about and holding out hope despite overwhelming long odds.

You'll have many lines, so make sure you're dedicated when you audition !

  • Oh! It's nothing strange, really! I'm a spirit medium ....In training.

  • Nick! How could you say such a thing? I-I'm sorry, sir, I apologize for my partner! He's new to this, and a bit OUT OF TOUCH with the world.

  • Um, maybe I shouldn't be saying this... But he definitely did it. Murder. At least once. Maybe twice.

Role assigned to: Joseph Frost

Edgeworth is usually calm and level-headed, but is typically seen as a snob due to his cold, ruthless, and generally aloof nature. He has a certain lack of social skills and tact, making him very insecure and awkward around others.  Although he generally loathes to admit it, he cares deeply for his friends, going to great lengths to assist them.

  • Amateurs, amateurs. Listen to me, Mr. Wright. In the courtroom, proof is everything. Without it, you have nothing. You ARE nothing.

*Shaking* Upstart..! Amateur..! These accusations... are ludicrous!

  • The guilty will always lie, to avoid being found out.  There's no way to tell who is guilty and who is innocent!  All that I can hope to do is get every defendant declared "guilty"!  So I make that my policy.

  • So, you've come to laugh at the fallen attorney?  Then laugh, laugh!  Well?  Why aren't you laughing?

Role assigned to: KissfromtheShadows

Mia Fey is a defense attorney known for her undying belief in her clients.  She acts as a mentor for Phoenix, being referred to as "Chief" by him.  She is very mature and intelligent, as she helps Phoenix whenever he is in a tough situation.  Despite being relatively level-headed and mature, Mia does show a couple of personality quirks.

  • Try thinking out of the box!  Don't waste time doubting the facts.  Assume the clock was three hours slow and... Think through it!  Ask yourself, "Why was the clock three hours slow"?  Figure out the reason, and you'll have your proof!

  • I think I feel a migraine coming on...

  • I hope you see the importance of evidence now.  Also, hopefully you realize, things change depending on how you look at them.  People, too.  We never really know if our clients are guilty or innocent.  All we can do is believe in them.  And in order to believe in them, you have to believe in yourself.

Manfred Von Karma

Manfred von Karma is an intimidating prosecutor who holds great sway over the courts.  Manfred is extremely arrogant, seeing defense attorneys as nothing more than annoying flies to be swatted.  Manfred von Karma's most prominent trait, however, is his obsession with perfection and nothing less.  He is the most intimidating character in the game, and is considered the main antagonist.

Ideal Voice - Low/deep, older voice.  You can give him a German accent if you are able, but it's not needed!

  • ... Fool...  You seriously think that I would stand here were I not completely prepared?

  • You will slam down your gavel and say the word "guilty".  That is your role!

  • And you... you left a scar on my shoulder that would never fade!  I... I'll bury you!  I'll bury you with my bare hands!

Role assigned to: Josh Gilholm

The judge is naïve and gullible, but he is said to give the correct verdict without fail. He tends to change his mind very easily, a trait that lawyers on both sides of the courtroom often use to their advantage.

  • Mr. Wright... I have to say, I'm impressed. I don't think I've ever seen someone complete a defense so quickly... and find the true culprit at the same time!

  • Order!  Order in the court!

  • I once wasted an entire day looking for my dentures, when, in reality, they were in my mouth all along! Ha!

Detective Dick Gumshoe

Role assigned to: Crazy_Ivan43

Gumshoe is very sensitive, often leading to his feelings getting easily hurt, but he is also a very optimistic and hard-working person.  He has a habit of jumping to conclusions and doing things a more sensible person wouldn't.  Despite this, he has been shown to be courageous, dependable, and loyal to his friends.

I imagine him with a mid-low gruff voice, maybe with a slight New York accent.  However, feel free to voice him as you see fit!

  • Alright, I'm Detective Dick Gumshoe, see?  We received a report from the building across the way, see.  Got a person saying they saw a murder.  Anyway, I don't want either of you moving an inch, 'kay?

  • Wh-What?!  Miss May isn't suspicious, and she sure isn't pink, pal!  ...W-Well, I guess she /is/ pink.

  • After securing the suspect, I examined the scene of the crime with my own two eyes.  I found a memo written on a piece of paper next to the victim's body!  On it, the word "Maya" was written clearly in blood!

Role assigned to: chairkun

Butz is very naive and loud-mouthed, much to the chagrin of those around him. He talks and acts without thinking, even in trying circumstances that demand the utmost seriousness.  He also has a tendency to switch between jobs and girlfriends rather frequently. Regardless of these quirks, Butz ultimately stands by Wright and Edgeworth when they need help.

  • Hey, watch it buddy! We were great together! We were Romeo and Juliet, Cleopatra and Mark Anthony!  I wasn't dumped! She just wasn't taking my phone calls. Or seeing me... Ever.

  • Don't worry 'bout me! I'll be dead and gone soon!

  • Heh? Heh heh. Well, maybe I did, and maybe I didn't!

Lotta Hart

Hart is fierce and loud, but well-meaning.  She is often single-minded in the pursuit of her goals and gets aggravated if she thinks people are mocking her or her homeland.  She also has a strong southern accent.  Because of this, many people have a problem understanding what she is saying.

Ideal Voice:  Medium pitch, with a Southern accent!

  • I'm Lotta, Lotta Hart, but y'all can call me Lotta!  I'm here photographing meteor showers for a research project.  Mighty pleased ta meet ya!

  • Yeah, I know how y'all Yanks think!  "I say, those southern folks talk with that exaggerated drawl, why they must be dumb!"

  • S-sorry, y'all.  I wasn't fibbing, really.  I was, just... I thought y'know, I could be witness to a murder n' all!  I kinda got excited.

Role assigned to: Tyr Leifsen

Sahwit is smarmy, sycophantic, and nosy, but hides a deep anger problem. He also has a habit of telling fairly transparent lies, then getting angry when he is challenged. His words often betray his excellent poker face, thereby giving away his true nature.  He is the murderer in the first case of the game.  I imagine him with a voice similar to Gilbert Gottfried, but totally do your take on him!

  • I come all the way down here to testify, and look what happens!  They treat me like a criminal!  A criminal!

  • Y-You with your "objections", and your "evidence"... Just who do you think you are!?

  • Gwaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Shutupshutupshutup! I hate you! I-it was him, I tell you! I saw him! H-he killed her and he should burn! Burn! Give him death!

Role assigned to: JohnDoyle

Grossberg is very strict and tends to speak nostalgically of his past.  He has a habit of loudly and exaggeratedly clearing his throat to draw someone's attention.  He appears to be fond of his past employees even after years of seeing them.  In a sense, Grossberg represents an old generation of veteran lawyers who have perhaps lost sight of their trade's true purpose and become tainted with corruption.

I imagine Grossberg to have a lower pitched voice, or I can even see him with a higher pitched one, similar to Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh!  However, feel free to give him a voice you think would fit!

  • Hmm?  Eh, ahem!  Well, you see it's just... I'm busy, you see!

  • The color of the sky!  The hue of the sea!  The weave of the straw hat!  It's worth at least three million, I have no intention of parting with it, of course.  No, I won't sell it!  Not even to you!

  • My boy, I owe you my thanks, truly.  I don't know what I would have done if things had gone poorly for the girl.

Payne is generally smug and overconfident, but also easy to rattle, and tends to have trouble articulating his arguments clearly in court.  Payne has a high-pitched, screeching voice, and seems quite wimpy most of the time.

  • You went to the victim's apartment on the day of the murder, did you not?  ..Well, did you, or did you not?

  • It appears that she had several "Sugar Daddies."

  • Your Honor, a-a moment please!  There isn't a shred of evidence supporting the defense's claims!

April May

Role assigned to: CaitlinDiVA

First impressions of April May gave the appearance of a cute, lively, and flirtatious young woman who liked to tease people and knew how to get her way.  When cornered, however, May would reveal her true personality: aggressive, sneering and temperamental.

Her voice for the first two lines should be cutesy and flirtatious, but the last line should be the complete opposite: totally nasty.  I don't have any specifics, so give her a voice that you see fit!

  • This is like something out of a movie!  It's all so exciting, I can hardly entertain myself!

  • I like a man with a big... vocabulary.

  • Oooh? Oh ho ho. Mmmrrrrrph! Ooooorrrrrrrggggghhhhhhh... hhh!!!  What's it to you, porcupine-head!?  That stupid clock doesn't matter, okay!?  She did it!  And she should die for it!  Die!

Role assigned to: windlighthub

White has an arrogant, flamboyant, self-centered and abrasive personality.  He tends to view others as beneath him and was extremely egocentric, naming his company after his favorite color and modeling various statues in his office in his own image.  White seems to think himself highly educated with a wide vocabulary, but in fact he misuses a great deal of the words he used, going out of his way to make his language seem as flamboyant as possible.

I imagine White's voice to be akin to that of a movie star or a game show host.

  • The police ... the courts ... to me, they are mere toys. Playthings for my amusement!

  • Splendiferous. Perhaps I have intimidated you with my giantesque vocabulary...?

  • It's conclusive, definitive, undeniable..... unimpeachable!  GAAAAAAAAA!!

Bellboy

Role assigned to: chairkun

The bellboy is very formal with others and is generally quite prim and proper, although he can still be influenced by a pretty face.  He is somewhat forgetful.  He has an extreme devotion to his hotel, to the point of being glad that there was a murder in the hotel as it would create publicity.  This, along with his excitement at being involved in a murder inquiry, caused Phoenix Wright to find him rather odd and creepy.

I imagine him with a smooth, mid-tone voice.  Although he is calm, he does get quite flustered at times.

  • I am the head bellboy at the fine Gatewater Hotel, in business for four generations!

  • Ab-SO-lutely, sir.  As in, "so very absolutely", sir.  It's an endearing mannerism of mine.

  • Well, when I brought the room service, sir....  S-She.... the guest, sir, favored me with a, um, an "embrasser" , sir.   It's French for "kiss", sir.  But not a french kiss, sir!

Powers' imposing figure belies his gentle and somewhat naïve nature; he looks like a fierce beast, but actually has a heart of gold.

Ideal Voice: Low/deep, but gentle and kindhearted!

  • This is the real me. When I got the part of the Steel Samurai, with that mask... I decided I would never show my face in public until the job was over.

  • I... I don’t know what to say! Thank you so much!

Vasquez is generally very calm (to the point of appearing bored of everything around her) and rarely gets angry.  She is extremely reserved, and when she does break her composure, she reverts to her original demeanor rather quickly.

Ideal voice:  Mid-low.  I see her with a mature, somewhat monotone voice - although she can express emotions when she breaks her usual demeanor.

  • .. Dee Vasquez.  I am a producer for Global Studios.

  • Script.  I'm looking for a script.   "The Steel Samurai, Episode 13."  I need it.

  • But... that is only a possibility.  Proof is another thing altogether.  You lack decisive proof, Mr. Wright.

Wendy Oldbag

Oldbag mainly comes across as a stereotypical cranky old lady. She is prone to ramble on and on when given the opportunity, lecturing others about their behavior and comparing their actions to the "good old days".  She is also very stubborn, especially with those she views as "young whippersnappers", and reacts badly to anyone bad-mouthing her crushes.

Ideal Voice:  Honestly, anything will do, as long as she sounds old and cranky.

  • Gawkers! Sightseers! Tourists!!! I know the type. You heard about the incident and came to snoop around. Youths today! Something horrible happens and all you can think of is sightseeing. Wasting your time at a place like this. Don't you have jobs you should be doing?

  • How was I to know everyone would be so nosy! You should be ashamed, all of you!

  • Oh, dearie! No need for you to be embarrassed! Just call me "grandma."

Hackins appears to be very intelligent for his age. He is able to use the internet well and is very good at forcing people into bargains and winning them. He is also very short-tempered, rude and unfriendly to most people

Ideal Voice:  The typical young boy voice -- think young Ash from Pokemon or Masaru Daimon from UTG!

  • I'm Cody!  Cody Hackins.  Call me "kiddy-o" again and I'll cut you down where you stand, evildoer!

  • Ultra Rare Premium cards are way rarer than plain Ultra Rare cards!  Come ON!  Man, for a grown-up, you sure are dumb!

  • N-n-n-no way!  No!  I-it's impossible!  Th-the Steel Samurai never loses!  He never loses to anyone!  Ever!

Nichols could be considered amongst the most "normal" of all the Ace Attorney characters.  She is an assistant at Global Studios who is in charge of props.

Ideal Voice:  Mid-range.  She acts like a typical college student - any normal voice will do!

  • Who me?  I'm an assistant here. I help with props and stuff.  Moving them around, ordering new ones, et cetera.

  • Hi... WP's lawyers, right?  I heard about the trial!  Great job, guys!

  • I don't care what kind of girl you might think I am, I need that card!

Manella has a penchant for speaking in L33T and reciting internet memes.  Once under pressure, however, he speaks normally.  He sweats a lot and comes off as a little creepy due to his "nerdy" personality.

Ideal Voice:  High-Mid range.  The stereotypical nerd voice would fit him!

  • How can j00 not know the great Sal Manella!?  I make teh L33T SH0WZ!  The Steel Samurai?  Mine!

  • You know, on closer inspection...  Mmm...  Yeah...  Hot!  Hot!  Hot!   Hey, do j00 do a lot of "cosplay," coz that costume r0x0rz!

  • Get this!  The sponsors turn to me and say, "Mr. Manella.  Those scripts of yours are not appropriate for children."  Can j00 believe it!?

While under his fake persona, Yogi appeared senile and confused.  He also had the habit of falling asleep spontaneously.  However, as soon as his true identity was revealed, Yogi lost all traces of his previous personality, immediately becoming lucid and calm.

Ideal Voice:  Mid-low elderly voice.  In the first two lines here, he is putting up a false act, seeming like an absentminded old man.  In the last line shown above, however, he is showing his true self, and is very calm and collected.

  • Glad to hear it, glad to hear it!  You make your old man proud. When you kids left the house, I didn't know what to think.

  • Mmph... zzzz... ... I, er, am the proprietor of the restaurant the "Wet Noodle" at Gourd Lake.
