Petunia Petals
Project Overview
Petunia Petals is a 2D/3D animated pilot for YouTube.
Petunia is a space alien from a dead planet, come to Earth through a time-space wormhole localised in Camden Town, London. With a ragtag group of fish-men, robots, holo-people and a 3' long insect larvae (all stranded aliens, like her), Petunia defends the Earth from alien wrong'uns that fall through the wormhole and threaten London, the Earth or her friends.
The pilot is a 20' sci-fi adventure drama for ages 8-80. If successful, we hope to continue as a series on YouTube. We are currently casting voice roles.
No AI will be used in the production of this project, and voice role contracts will contain an AI rider to guarantee against data being used for AI training.

Petunia mixes joy and thirst for life with the weight of living and awareness of death that come from surviving her planet's end. She does so without contradiction; one causes the other. She lives the British 20-something year old's dream: a great job (saving the planet), a great flat (above a stationery shop in Notting Hill), a great best friend/romantic interest (an ordinary human), all of which she loves; but when it's quiet, she often feels a particular, unnameable type of loneliness.
The project is a 20' animated pilot, with 3D backgrounds and 3D/2D mixed characters. If successful, we would love to continue it as a regular series.
Audition lines from the script are below. There are many sci-fi terms/names in the script - a good inspiration for reading this type of dialogue is David Tennant in Doctor Who, or LeVar Burton in Star Trek TNG. Generally, it should be read a bit quickly, and it should be suggestive of a bigger world outside the particular story. Petunia is prone to monologues, which she is (usually) morally justified in delivering. The lines below are a good mix of 'expository' dialogue (i.e., lots of strange sci-fi terms) and dramatic monologue.
The type of voice acting we're looking for is 'naturalistic', not 'exaggerated'. Think 'feature film', 'theatre' or 'realistic game' rather than 'cartoon' or 'anime'. Please try to work in that style.
Feel free to record one, two, or all of the audition lines, but please don't record more than 3 takes each for any given line. Any format is fine to submit. Any accents or ethnicities are welcome, though Petunia is an alien living in the UK, so British, European and unidentifiable accents are favoured.

You'll die today anyway. You're a Shade. I knew Shades, in the Sunset Shoals. Good soldiers, great singers. But Shades live on Coronal Sun worlds. You're Goldilocks when it comes to sunlight: too little, you die of thirst, too much, you drown. Well, burn.
If you stay here, you will die; and if you have some plan to get around that, a plan that involves killing humans, I will stop you, and you will die; and if I fail, if you succeed, if, somehow, you make this planet habitable to you, human beings will die, and the continuance of your species will be predicated on genocide. No matter what, you lose. It's a chance, but a chance is more than you have right now. So: let me help you.
A HYDROGEN BOMB! Sunshine in a bottle! It's a fusion reaction, just like a star - detonate it over London right as the eclipse starts and BOOM! Every hungry Shade-brood baby gets burned to nothing! Two stones, one bird!!

Emm is an ordinary human, and Petunia's best friend. Emm admires Petunia's confidence and vivacity, Petunia admires Emm's kindness and patience. As the only human in the friend group, Emm is often a voice of empathy, and is often the only person who can keep up and return Petunia's sense of humour.

But the eclipse only lasts a few minutes. After that, the Sun will burn them, right? Drown them. Whatever.
Your planet died? Well I'm sorry, I'm sorry but my city is still right here and if surviving it means I become you then I don't want to survive because you didn't even try. We have to try. Wouldn't you have tried?
You're an alien? You're all... aliens. Uhm. That's cool.

LeA is a hologram person, a runaway from a cyber-world. Her 'body' is a small shoebox-shaped computer with RC car wheels for mobility, but after bonding with a human woman from a council block near King's Cross when she first came to Earth, LeA began projecting a humanoid hologram form to interface with the world.
LeA is irritable, which is understandable: she has a supercomputer for a brain and instant access to all Earth's knowledge via the internet, so it's annoying for her to have to explain things in low-latency forms of communication such as speech, or to justify herself when she knows she's right. LeA doesn't like to express her affection for her friends and her adopted home, though her tireless work to protect and help them, even in small ways, shows her true feelings. She is particularly irritable and rude to Nightwere, on whom she has a huge secret crush.

Don't ask me to look it up, don't tell me to do the maths. If you want to find something out, Google it, you have a smartphone.
I'm offline. Even if I could connect, I don't know if the missile can be remote detonated. Impact in 3 minutes.

The Nightwere of the Vainglorious Pandemon Parliament is a wannabee 50's greaser runaway teen. He came to Earth after intercepting TV transmissions of Marlon Brando and James Dean films, and was disappointed when he arrived to discover that things had changed since the 1950s - he would be most at home causing trouble in a malt hop or milkshake bar. In spite of his confident, flirty attitude, Nightwere is totally unaware when other have romantic feelings for him, and wouldn't know what to do if someone were to reciprocate his flirting. Nightwere is a big fan of Earth pop culture, and regularly considers changing his name to 'Johnny'.

Me, I'm just a drifter. Roll into town like a tumbleweed, roll back out. The open road. Still working on my driver's license, it ain't easy. You ever try a Snickers bar?
OK, sure, and that missile is up 800 miles up in the air. So how do we get to it?

Maggie is a late 40s-early 50s government bureaucrat charged with administrating Petunia and her friends. A lifetime of service has made Maggie rough around the edges, which isn't helped by having to ensure the group of young alien weirdos protect the Earth from alien threats. However, Maggie admires their work ethic and sees something of her younger self in them - she assumes something of a mother figure role in the group, and makes great effort to protect them from the government machine which could strip them of their rights at any time.

It's not insane, it's logic. Better to lose London than the Earth. That's our choice. We're evacuating where we can, but there's nothing we can do for the centre. I've scheduled a teleport, it arrives in 2 minutes. Take it. We'll need you, after.
21, husband. Married young. Not much of her left, we had to use dental. Her husband won't be allowed to see the body.
