"Payback [working title]" Comedy Pitch Demo

"Payback [working title]" Comedy Pitch Demo

Project Overview

Hello, everyone! This casting call is for "Payback [working title]", a Comedy Pitch Demo Production. Please be advised that some improvisation will be used in the recording of this production, so while you do NOT need to be an experienced improviser, the ability to listen carefully to your scene partners and react is key. Also, for this project you will definitely need to be able to simply play and have fun, which are essential elements for giving a high-quality performance using improvisation.

For this casting call, we are casting for lead roles. Selected applicants will be auditioned individually via remote using Discord. All roles are in English language.

Concept: The purpose of this production is to demonstrate proof of concept by presenting selected scenes for a pitch demo meeting.

Plot in brief: Set in California 1985, Heather is a production assistant at a popular radio station in Los Angeles. When Heather is invited to take part in an on-air comedy segment with a DJ named Michael, she is thrilled to participate and delighted to be told by the professional DJs she works with that she has a flair for performance. Encouraged by the DJs, Heather participates in further segments with Michael, each one involving a prank more hilarious than the last. Finally, another DJ named Ryan decides to turn the tables on Heather and plays an on-air prank on her as payback for Michael. In spite of her surprise, Heather thinks the prank is hilarious and thoroughly enjoys the chance to spend time with Ryan, on whom Heather has had a secret crush for some time.

DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS

The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. ET (Eastern Time) on Sunday, August 7th, 2022. Auditions will be scheduled on a rolling basis starting Friday, July 29th. We'll notify voice actors who have been cast in roles by Monday, August 15th, at the latest. All lines will initially be recorded in-session using Discord but retakes must be turned in by voice actors by 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 2nd. This is a hard deadline. If you are unable to submit recordings on or before October 2nd, 2022, please do not audition. We will look forward to seeing your talents in other project auditions.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Expect to be greeted by our director, Steve, who has experience in audio and video production as well as extensive experience in casting and acting and improvisation coaching. Whether you'll be working with other voices actors from around the globe or one-on-one with the director, all talent will receive feedback and collaboration with our Director and writing staff to ensure the highest quality of performance.

Steve has a great deal of experience using improvisation to add excitement and emotional impact to scenes. If you have any any improvisation experience, you will find yourself right at home. If you are not experienced but are willing to try, you will find yourself with a very supportive director who has gained a wealth of experience coaching actors and helping them give their best performances.

For audition, rehearsal, and recording we communicate primarily through Discord. If you are unfamiliar with this application, you can still audition. However, we strongly, strongly recommend participation through Discord as it allows actors to collaborate with each other in real-time via remote. We've used these programs with other projects and it has been of immense value in helping actors give their strongest performances.

WHAT WE ASK OF YOU

  • All actors for this production must be at least 18 years of age as of Saturday, July 7th, 2022.
  • First and foremost, have fun -- we take pride in bringing together talents from different backgrounds to create something truly phenomenal, but none of it means anything if the people involved aren't passionate about their craft.
  • Please submit clean recordings on prosumer mics (no air conditioners in the background, no fans -- we don't mind performing noise reduction on your files, however too much clean-up will drastically reduce the quality of your voice). And speaking of clean-up -- please let us handle the post-production. Don't add effects to your lines -- leave that to our audio staff.
  • Feel free to cut your lines to your best/favorite takes. Three is the gold standard. We have a few voice actors that would rather give us more takes, and that's okay, too. However please remove the takes you do NOT want to be featured on the production or reviewed for your audition. Also, please specifically indicate your favorite one or two takes.
  • Please submit your recordings as one .wav file to our company email address, which will be provided to you after casting. If a file is too large to submit via email, we prefer Google Drive or Dropbox.
  • We do occasionally ask for line re-dos, but we do this sparingly and only after consideration.
  • Our production team members value an inclusive and a positive atmosphere. Although we are all human and prone to making mistakes, we believe that being inclusive helps everyone to bring their best to the production. If conflicts occur or you feel unreasonably uncomfortable with some aspect of production, please inform a member of the production team one-on-one so that we can ensure that issues are sorted out in a fair, effective fashion.
  • As policy, any person whose behavior is deemed to be of unreasonable and substantial detriment to the production (including performers, staff members, and leadership team members) will be asked to pursue performance opportunities elsewhere.
  • Lastly, we always appreciate the opportunity to work with actors long-term. We frequently return to voice actors we've worked with successfully in the past.

We are very excited about this project and look forward to receiving your auditions!
