New Roles
Punpun's parents and main friends have been added to the roles list.
Punpun is a the nonvocal lead of this manga series. He simply makes noises, while the narrator "speaks his lines". However the noises Punpun makes are crucial. They should sound somewhat cartoonish, but small and gentle. This is a really difficult one to nail, because there's not really much I can say to you that could describe what we're looking for. But we will know it when we see it.
*Various noises of joy*
*Various noises of sadness*
*Various noises of urgency or anger*
The Narrator is critically important to the delivery of the story. Not only does it give important detail to the people around Punpun and the actions he does, but acts as his voice and mind as well. They should always sound very calm and content. Almost apathetic but not close enough to quite graze it. Another very difficult part to get correctly.
"The policemen asked him many questions over and over, until it was evening."
"Punpun was just about too depressed to go to school that day."
"Punpun actually wanted to be a baseball player when he grew up. He had never played baseball before, but he knew how much his dad liked watching baseball on TV. Sometimes he would wonder to himself; is this the same as "wanting" to do something?"
Anyone willing to help us compile the pages into a video and edit it to match the audio. We are staffed enough to handle everything else behind the scenes production-wise except this.
Introduce yourself and talk about past experiences, skills, whatever you'd like really. Don't be afraid to throw in weird stuff.
Akio is a sweet girl with big dreams and big aspirations, all trapped in a small body, in an ultimately meaningless existence. But maybe she will find her own meaning?
"My name is Akio Tanaka. I just moved here from Nerima." [neutral]
"Guess what? In a few years, the oil will run out, and the environment will collapse, and we won't be able to live on the earth anymore. So we'll have to collinize other stars, or humanity will go ustinct. Did you know that?" [rambling] [childlike] (yes the spelling errors are intentional)
"...you naughty boy!" ... "Teechurrr! I found Punpun!" [giggling] [yelling]
Punpun's mom. A symbol of parenthood, and a commentary on the general attitude to parenting and relationships.
"...There's none left." [cold]
"You've been jobless for an entire year!" [screaming] [frightened] [angry]
"Pssh. Like I care. I hate kids, I don't want to go back." [cold]
Punpun's dad. He turns down a work transfer due to family reasons but gets fired from work as a result. He is unable to find a job since then.
After the divorce, he goes to his hometown Kagoshima and starts working as the night guard at a hydro plant. He sends letters to Punpun every month.
"That's right! Run, run, run! Now this is how the Giants win games!" [exited] [happy]
"Get me a beer wife!" [demanding]
"I bought that fuckin' beer with my own money you whore!" [furious] [yelling]
Punpun's uncle on his mother's side. Be starts taking care of Punpun after family issues arise.
"But don't worry, I'll live with you until she gets out! About time my unemployment comes in handy for something! Ha Ha Ha! ... yeah that's not really funny."
"Want to play a little game before we clean up? ANGOLMOIS!" [yeah, that's all on you to decipher]
God appears to Punpun, and is lackluster. What is Punpun to do now?
"What do you ask of God, Punpun?"
"You know, pal, God's getting kind of tired of this topic. Anything else you want to ask?"
The teacher is a strong symbol of authority throughout the series, and his overbearingly happy demeanor is a commentary on those figures of authority within society.
"Well now that we have our new student... I think we should have a TEST in 1st period! Juuuuust kidding!" [overly happy and friendly] (not cartoonishly so)
"The bigger you dream, the better folks! You know why? Because dreams are free!" [false happiness]
"YOU'RE SUPPOSED- TO DO- YOUR HOMEWORK! DO IT! DO IAAAAAT! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ELSE HAPPENS, YOU HAVE TO DO IT!" [screaming] [lose your shit]
A weird friend of Punpun and best friends with Seki. He's not so independent and has a wild imagination. His nose seems to be running all the time.
"Did you just see that guy walk through there?"
"Gee hee hee!" [laughing/giggle]
"Guess what? The God of poop just said I can do anything."
Punpun's friend from elementary and middle school. He has a natural talent for badminton.
"Oh, you mean that fat old lady?"
"Hey, Harumi... what's scarier, a zombie or a ghost?"
"You know we should come here more often! We could bring our guns and play Resident Evil!"
A childhood friend of Punpun, who moved away as a child. Should sound outgoing
"Well, the truth is... my family is moving as soon as the second semester starts."
"So Komatsu, what if there's a million yen? What would you do with it?" [exitment] [curious]
"W-we're making plans to go somewhere for summer!" [nervous] [scared] [startled]
A runaway child who misunderstood freedom.
Masumi Seki is one of Punpun's childhood friends and is best friends with Shimizu. He has a rough personality and usually has a cool, indifferent expression even when upset. There is a permanent scar above the tip of his nose that is covered by a band-aid for most of elementary school. His family owns Seki Lunches, which used to do business with the now-abandoned miso factory.
"...Wondering what would happen if I beat the crap out of a worthless drunk." [apathetic guise] [dark] [repressed anger]
"You need to grow up soon." [irritated]
"I'm sorry." [remourseful] [uncomfortable] [quiet]
Critically important as ever in any project, the Extras. Very necessary for any kind of storytelling that takes place outside of very constraining circumstance.
"Mr. Vice Principal." ... "Aren't you bored? Let's play hide and seek." [old man]
"H-Hiya Punpun!" [young boy] [slightly nervous]
"Cuz like, his Dad's in jail right? He's suspected of Assolt." [young boy] [pronounced as spelling goes]
