Old vs. New/Toon City (EDIT: MAJOR UPDATE)
Project Overview
Old vs. New/Toon City is a project that first originated between me and ShadowGarth0975 back in 2014. Basically, the project is set on an island off the coast of North America where cartoons and other animated characters live on the Isle of Toon in the city of...well, Toon City. Cartoons of both the old and new generation live here, whilst going from slice-of-life senarios to fending off evil forces. This series has a tie-in to The Four Earths and the Dimensional Lords series as it crossovers with that series when Shadow Garth started introducing more of his ideas into the series. Feel free to give it your all with auditioning for this series and maybe send us some fanart of your favorite characters. If you want to contact me, here's my Twitter: https://twitter.com/Emilyfan71
Wiki: https://old-vs-new.fandom.com/wiki/Old_vs._New_Wiki
UPDATE: Apologies to the people who have submitted their auditions here. I have been trying a different approach with selecting voices for the characters by releasing the episodes separately one by one. If you want to voice a character in upcoming episodes, go to the projects labeled "Toon City Episode 'insert number here': 'insert title here.'"
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.

When Bugs made his appearance, he promptly replaced Daffy Duck as the most popular Warner Bros. character. Daffy, jealous of his cartoon counterpart's ascension to fame, has on many occasions attempted to dethrone the rabbit. But he has never truly succeeded, always being outsmarted by the clever hare. However, as time passed on, Bugs and Daffy's rivalry has turned friendlier in nature as the two usually hang out together in most cartoons and Bugs considers Daffy his best friend despite his faults, to which Daffy says the same thing.
"Eh, what's up, doc?
"Heh, you're just jealous."

Porky Pig is an animated cartoon character in the Warner Bros Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of animated cartoons. Porky always remained a sentimental favorite of the Warner directors. Porky's voice is defined by his stuttering.

Sylvester James Pussycat, Sr. or Sylvester the Cat is a Tuxedo cat who appears in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons, often chasing Tweety, Speedy Gonzales or Hippety Hopper. Sylvester shows much pride and he also never gives up. Despite his pride and persistence, Sylvester was definitely on the "loser" side of the Looney Tunes winner / loser hierarchy. He can be quite cowardly under certain circumstances, but given the chance, Sylvester wants to set an example and prove that he's worth something. Whenever Sylvester isn't in the company of Tweety, Granny or Hector, he can often be seen in the company of Tom the Cat and Mr. Jinks. Like Daffy, Sylvester's voice is defined by his trademark lisp.
#"Sufferin' succotash!"
#"Ahhh, shut up!"
#Improvise here.
Tweety is a yellow canary that has a somewhat large head. His temper was at first short and was often angry. His catchphrase is "I tawt I taw a puddy tat!" As his character progressed, he became very calmer. Tweety appears to be an innocent little bird, sweet and extremely gentle character. Most of the time, when Tweety is under the care of Granny, Sylvester cannot successfully outwit his opponent. Deep down Sylvester is jealous of Tweety because Granny gives him more attention.
"I tawt I taw a puddy tat!"
"I did! I did taw/tee a puddy tat!"

"I'm the Duke and Duchess' private engine. I take them everywhere."
"Who cares about a little water?"

Hiro is grand, masterful, mature, wise, very dignified, enormously kind and is able to find good in any engine he meets. He has an appreciation for serenity and order and often thinks fondly of his homeland, far away, where he was once one of the strongest engines. Hiro fell victim to neglect when waiting upon parts to arrive for him from his home country, when he began to break down and became lost. He was eventually rediscovered by Thomas, who, despite some problems in worrying about sharing the discovery of Hiro with the Fat Controller, helped Hiro to be fully restored to his former glory. As his name suggests, he speaks with a Japanese accent.

Stanley is incredibly compassionate and empathic: there is nothing he would not do for another engine. And if he could not do it, he would find someone who could. He is sleek, smart, and stylish, and his silver and light grey appearance, with striking red wheels and a shining smokebox certainly makes him look the part as he eagerly goes about his work. However, he can be a bit cocky, especially around Thomas, given how he was originally a substitute for Thomas during the reconstruction of Great Waterton. He speaks with a Cockney accent.
"At least you're back on the rails again."
"Here you go, James. Fresh from the washdown."
Improvise here.
Diesel is a sneaky type of character. He's usually not one to be trusted as he has a history of spreading rumors, lies and trickery. He speaks with a central English accent that sounds smooth yet sneaky.
"I'm here to shunt some awfully tiresome trucks."
"I here you like jokes. You made a good one about me yesterday, I laughed and laughed."

'Arry and Bert are unquestionably devious and scheming. They feel superior to steam engines and working at the scrap yards, they enjoy the chance to break up engines or at least make their lives more difficult. Due to their grim task, they have earned a reputation on Sodor as "The Grim Messengers of Doom". 'Arry and Bert also have a tendency to act scheming, slimy, greasy and oozy. However, despite their prejudices, the diesels have co-operated with steam engines on occasions and when they are in trouble, steam engines often come to the rescue. They both speak with groggy Cockney accents.
"HAH, you'd make very fine scrap, indeed."
"We don't need no help from no stinking steamers."
Improvise here.
Paxton is a young, gentle diesel who often works in or around the Blue Mountain Quarry and the Vicarstown Dieselworks. He is good-hearted and well meaning, but gullible, naïve and easily misled. He also has a short attention span. He tends to be more of a follower than a leader and can sometimes find thinking for himself and making big decisions difficult. This may result in him being pressured into a situation he might not necessarily be comfortable with. However, if a friend is in trouble, Paxton will have the conscience and the self-assertion to do what he himself feels is right. He speaks with a Cockney accent.
"Do you always work this hard at the quarry, Skarloey?"
"Are you singing, Diesel?"
Improvise here.
Sidney is a very helpful diesel engine, but he is also very forgetful. He starts his day at one location and ends up at another, not remembering how he got there. When it was his turn for repairs at the Dieselworks, he was hoisted up and had his undercarriage removed. Being patient, Sidney was happy to wait and wait and wait. He sat there happy to pass the time with any engine that happened to be visiting. Two years later, he still had no wheels, so Percy helped him at Christmas to get a new set of wheels and now he is back on track. He speaks with a deep Cockney accent.
"OH, uh...I forgot."
"Now, what did I come in here for again?"

"It's been about two years."
Improvise here.
Den is the diesel engine who runs the Vicarstown Dieselworks, repairing other diesels. He is stately and deeply pensive. He tries to make sure everything he says is deeply considered, can often be heard muttering "what I mean to say is...", and can tend to over-think. He may come across as a little slow, but nothing could be further from the truth. He is rather astute and likes to take into account as much as he can with regards to a problem. Although he is not a worrier, he may tend to be on the fence about taking particular action over a matter before making a calculated, informed decision that will be worth the wait. Den speaks with a deep, Cockney accent.
"Oh, what I mean is..."
"I dunno about you, Dart, but I'm glad I don't have springs."
Improvise here.
Dart works at the Vicarstown Dieselworks supporting and assisting Den. Den and Dart have worked together for so long that Dart can often guess what Den is thinking before he can get it out himself. Although not so much the thinker of the duo, he is usually the doer and can be the chattier of the two. He quickly buzzes about the Dieselworks, occasionally bashing, crashing, and clanging into things. He can be heard to grumble "Dizzy Diesels!" when something goes wrong. Dart speaks with a gruff Cockney accent.
"What he means is..."
"You look as good as new!"
Improvise here.
Diesel 10 is a conniving, manipulative, bullying and raving diesel locomotive. He absolutely despises steam engines, and would call them taunting names like "Puffball" and "Teapot". All engines, steam and diesel alike, fear or respect him. He gets along enough with the other Sudrian diesels, but his efforts to help are often only when it suits his personal interest and he still harbors his scheming ways and anti-steam sentiments. His ideal voice would either be the original voice heard in the Magic Railroad teaser or his current voice heard in Day of the Diesels onwards.
"Well, scraping IS one of my specialties."
"Nothing makes me happier than crushing up old, rusted metal with a claw."
Improvise here.

"Ahoy there, matey!"
"This reminds me of an old sea story from long ago."
Improvise here.
Porter is a kind and helpful engine, with a good sense of self-confidence and does not worry about what other engines say about him, such as calling him a ‘camel’ because he has so many ‘humps’ (domes). He is a hard worker, although he can be a bit of a perfectionist at times. He is also very brave and can keep his head cool in a crisis. Porter speaks with a Yorkshire accent.

Bradford is an officious and strict brake van who adheres to every railway rule, no matter how minor the rule might be. Although he means well and does his best to keep the trucks in order, his overzealous attitude makes his trains commonly run very late. Because of this, the engines find him annoying. He is also quite conceited, as he claimed he knew how much the engines "appreciated" him. Despite his usual rigidity, Bradford also has a caring side, as shown when he tried to help Samson overcome his intense fear of fireworks. "I only asked how his day was going."

Sir Handel, named Falcon and under the supervision of Duke in his younger days, has been prone to fussy tantrums and thinking that he knows better than others, suggesting a superiority complex. Despite all of this, Sir Handel means well, always works to get things done and is proud to be a reliable and goodhearted engine. After many years in the quarry, Sir Handel has been portrayed as a steady, thoughtful and mature engine who is ready to offer advice and be put in charge. Although he will remain as a stubbon sort, he enjoys helping others. He speaks with a high Welsh accent.
"Whatever next? Those aren't coaches, they're cattle trucks."
"Are you sure? You can't take that many trucks in one go."
Improvise here.
Peter Sam, named Stuart in his younger days while being brought up under the instruction of Duke, is extremely enthusiastic, eager and bubbly. He can be occasionally cheeky, but is kind-hearted, well-meaning and good mannered. He can also be somewhat prone to being a little naïve at times and perhaps take things a little too literally. With an infectious attitude and high spirits, Peter Sam is kind and hard-working to a fault, and seldom grumbles about late hours and/or extra work. He accepts whatever job he gets and is always nice to the coaches and trucks, unlike Sir Handel. He speaks with a high Welsh accent.
"Oh, really? Is that true?"
"The Thin Controller has approved of it."

Rusty is a trusty, tame, friendly little diesel. He is a dedicated worker, often maintaining the line, while understanding and respecting the importance of his duties. He also has a rather distinctive two-tone horn. Rusty is quick to remind others with regards to proper conduct, particularly Duncan, who was initially very suspicious of the little diesel. But despite their arguments they both seem to make amends in the end, because of how kind and tolerant Rusty is. He has a good working relationship with both Skarloey and Peter Sam in particular. Caring, calm, and quick-thinking, Rusty is modestly a credit to the Skarloey Railway. He speaks with a Cornish accent.
"I warned him, but all he did was call me names."
"I think I'll have a word with the Thin Controller."

Duncan is a Scottish narrow gauge engine with rough manners and a strong temper, making him the least social of the Skarloey Railway fleet. While he means well, Duncan often grumbles and complains, usually about not being polished or being over-worked and can be rude, rough and bad tempered. In spite of his rough ways, Duncan can be a little misunderstood as he is focused, confident, resourceful and has a big heart. He is always willing to lend a helping hand whenever he can and wants to be really useful. He speaks with a gruff Scottish accent.
"How am I? I'll tell you how I am. I've got an AWFULLY wobbly wheel."
"I'm a plain, blunt engine and I speak as I find: tunnels should be tunnels and not rabbit holes."

Mike can sometimes appear a little cunning and arrogant. He thinks he should be in charge of the other two engines, though neither of them really let him boss them around. Bert simply humours him, but Rex goes out of his way to tease Mike and wind him up, which is not very difficult given the fact that he is hot headed. He is proud of his strength and appears rather confident, but he would not be so easy to tease if he was not hiding at least a little insecurity. He speaks with a Cornish accent.
"If engines can't whistle properly, then they shouldn't try."
"Real? Of course we're real."
Improvise here.
Rex is a playful green miniature engine with a strong sense of humour. He is a hard worker, and is the natural leader of the little railway engines (in spite of the fact that Mike prefers to think he’s the leader). Rex is very proud of his railway and a great friend to the other engines, but he can’t help teasing Mike to stop him getting too full of himself. Most of the time Mike manages to return the banter, but sometimes he gets a little wound up. Luckily Rex is very good at helping Mike see the funny side again. He does have a kind side and is generally kind hearted and friendly. He speaks with a Cornish accent.
"You were covered in mud!"
"(teasingly) It's shocking. We don't approve of engines without whistles, do we, Mike?"
Improvise here.
Bert is the quietest of the Arlesdale Railway engines. He appears to be very easy going and friendly. One thing Bert doesn’t like, however, is the idea that bigger engines (and some people) might look down on the little engines just because they’re small. Bert usually gets on with his jobs without complaining and doesn’t mind what kind of work he does as long as he’s treated with respect. He speaks with a Cornish accent.
"But I don't wanna be a moving picture in a book. I wanna stay as I am."
"They splashed me. They splashed me!'

Trevor is incredibly cheerful, kind and benevolent, and gets along well with nearly everyone. He enjoys basking in the sunshine or dozing in his shed, but easily grows bored and unhappy if he does not have much company or enough work to do. Trevor is particularly fond of children, and loves giving them rides whenever he gets the chance. He speaks with a Cornish accent.
"Oh, no. I don't need rails. I'm a traction engine."
"Oh, yes. I like giving rides to children (not like that if you're thinking...'that')."
Improvise here.
Terence is an assertive, orange tractor with caterpillar tracks. The engines find these very unusual, but Terence is very capable of proving that he does not need rails and that his tracks allow him to go practically anywhere. He takes any teasing in the name of fun and is happy to get on with his job, usually partaking in agricultural work. Terence never hesitates to assist in emergencies or sticky situations, road or rail, due to his helpful, forgiving nature. He speaks with a Liverpudlian accent.
"They're not wheels. They're caterpillar tracks."
"You see? I can go anywhere!"

Bulgy is a very grumpy, cold-hearted and cynical double-decker bus. He firmly believes that roads are superior to railways, and would occasionally lie to get himself out of trouble. After being restored, he saw the error of his ways and changed his attitude. However, even though he means well and works hard nowadays, he is still against railways, and if the chance comes, he is willing to take advantage of an engine's inability to take passengers - but a close watch is kept on him to make sure that he is on his best behaviour. He speaks with a deep, gruff Cockney accent.
"Free the roads from railway tyranny!"
"Pah! I certainly do not. Down with railways!"

Hannah is rowdy, excitable, and near-maniacal, loving to fly down the line at high speeds. However, after tagging along with James and nearly being torn apart, Hannah learned her lesson about going too fast, but her impatience failed to subside. Because of how she likes to get things done fast, her sister often calls her "Hasty Hannah." She is Henrietta's sister and speaks with a Liverpudlian accent.
"Oh, oh! Faster! Faster!"
"Oh, can we go fast? Children LOVE going fast!"

Little Miss Calamity was a new Little Miss who was created for the The Mr. Men Show, but she only made appearances in the first season of the show. Miss Calamity was almost always in trouble. Normally, the trouble started with something normal, then something went terribly wrong. In the end, anything that started out right was completely in shambles. She would always end those troublesome moments with her catchphrase, "What a calamity!" Here, Miss Calamity is the station master of Halford Station and is more careful not to get herself into trouble. Following the UK dub of the show, she speaks with a Lancashire accent and has a voice similar to that of Henrietta.
"Oh, what a calamity!"
"Sorry I took so long. I had to take the long war 'round."

Poor Mr. Bump - he’s always covered in bandages and has horrible accidents. He just can't avoid bumping into things. He may just be the unluckiest man on Earth and feels his position deeply. Here, Mr. Bump is the station master of Crimson Lake Station and is generally more well-respected and people take a lot more sympathy on Mr. Bump to make sure he stays out of trouble. Following the UK dub of The Mr. Men Show, he speaks with a voice similar to that of Roley from the UK dub of the original Bob the Builder.
"Well, this isn't so bad. As long as it doesn't get worse from here."
"Oh, why does this ALWAYS happen to me?"
Improvise here.
Mr. Grumpy is the grumpiest person in the world. He's always in a bad mood, hating anyone or anything he comes across. Mr. Grumpy has the worst luck in his life, even more so than Mr. Bump. Here, he is the station master of Tamarind Station and, while he is given more respect for his position, he can be just as temperamental as ever. Following the UK dub of the Mr. Men Show, he speaks with a gruff Cornish accent.
"If it's none of my concern, it's not my problem."
"Why don't you go and find someone else to bother?"
Improvise here.
Little Miss Whoops is a very clumsy woman and her stunts often cause harm to others. As her name suggests, her catchphrase for the show is "Whoops!". Unlike the rest of the Mr. Men and Little Misses, Miss Whoops has a brother, Mr. Bump and they are the only two siblings in the Mr. Men Show. Here, she is the station master of Enlen Station and is more careful of trying not to cause an accident. Following the UK Dub of the show, Miss Whoops speaks with a South Welsh accent.
"Whoops!"
"Don't worry, I'm a trained professional...somewhat..."

Frankie is a charming and intelligent diesel shunter who can be very commanding. A natural leader, Frankie actively takes charge of operations at the Steelworks. She can be scheming at times, putting on a front to try and manipulate others into doing what she wants them to do. Frankie, however, is not mean at heart. She feels hard-done-by and rejected because there is more work to do at the Steelworks than there are engines to do it. She would love to be free to go off making deliveries with Hurricane, but feels the only way she will ever be able to achieve this is by tricking others into doing the work she doesn't want to do. She speaks with a central English accent.
"You look like you must be a very important engine."
"You're too kind (chortles)."
Improvise here.
Hurricane is a very big tank engine. Although his name sounds like a storm, Hurricane is gentle, level-headed and kind. He is however very loyal to Frankie, and follows her lead, trying his best to keep up with her plans and help her realise her schemes. Hurricane turns a bit of a blind eye to the mean side of Frankie, preferring instead to see her as a loyal companion. He is hard-working, easy-going, generally cheery and his kindness cannot help but show through. He speaks with a central English accent.
"And my name's Hurricane. You know, like a storm! Whoosh!"
"This is the hottest place in town."

Merlin sees himself as a hero. He is proud and confident of his abilities and in particular his special skill - the ability to make himself invisible. All he has to do is say "Invisibility on!" and shut his eyes and he is convinced that nobody can see him. He knows he was specially designed in order to be hard to see and his three funnels, which were intended to disperse his smoke and steam, are there to prove it. What Merlin does not know is that his experiment did not work. He speaks with an upper-class English accent.
"Invisibility ON!!!"
"See what you can do when you have three funnels?"

Lexi is an eager and excitable engine. She is proud of being experimental and 'cab-forward'- even though she is convinced this makes her an "un-useful engine." Lexi is upbeat, cheery and outgoing, and likes to experiment with how she presents herself, often trying out different voices and how she phrases her expressions just to see which one she thinks works best. Lexi is not always confident she gets things right, but she loves the excitement of anything new, is very sociable, and keen to explore new things. She generally speaks with a Scottish accent.
"Well, HEEEELLLLLOOOO there!"
"I like to experience with accents, depending on what I'm thinking. You know, I should really take acting classes."
Improvise here.
Theo is very shy, extremely cautious and highly awkward. He has an unusual, experimental drive system that does not always function the way it should. He finds it particulary difficult when going in reverse. This only undermines Theo's confidence and he firmly believes he cannot do anything, although this is not entirely true. Theo is quiet and thoughtful, but when he speaks, he is usually direct, to the point and sometimes blunt. He speaks with a central English accent and has a lisp.
"W-W-We are experimental engines."
"I think I can't, I think I can't, I know I can't."

Adagio Dazzle is the leader of the Dazzlings. She's cunning, manipulative and can be quite arrogant. She and her sisters strive off of hate as a source of energy, but upon having their pendants destroyed, they are now trying to cope with life in their new forms. For Adagio, she was given the form of a unicorn. Her voice is very sultry and seductive.
#"You'll have to excuse them, they're idiots."
#"THAT is Equestrian magic."
#Improvise here.
Aria Blaze is the pessimist of the Dazzlings. She is generally very grumpy and tends to complain a lot. She sometimes questions Adagio's position as leader and cannot stand Sonata's antics. Upon having her pendant destroyed, Aria is now trying to cope with life by becoming more athletic in her new form as a Pegasus. Her voice sounds a bit nasally and generally irritated.
"I think YOU'RE the worst, Sonata."
"We have been known to sing from time to time."
Improvise here.
Sonata Dusk is the optimist of the Dazzlings. Unlike Adagio who is cunning and Aria who is grumpy, Sonata is more cheerful and can be quite oblivious to her surroundings. Despite having her pendant destroyed, she has still tried to keep on smiling and is now enjoying her form an Earth pony, creating her favorite dish...tacos. Her voice generally sounds very cheerful and oblivious.
"It's Taco Tuesday!!!"
"Hello! We sing like ALL the time! It's how we get people to do what we want."
