Totally about 570 words.

Adult male who tells the story about what happened to him when he was younger. This is the main character, and he is telling the story as if to a real listener. The character worked on a train, and the ideal voice would be a mature (30s-50s) salt-of-the-earth guy who worked with his hands, might have finished high school but didn't go to college, is smart and maybe wise but not fancy or educated, speaks well, works hard... A good guy.

Accent doesn't matter.

  • Maybe a guy shouldn't believe everything he hears, but the trouble with some people is that they don't even believe a true story. Let me buy you a beer and tell you about it.

  • As I passed the rear of the Diesel I saw why the fireman had not come back to the engine cab. All that was left of him was the lower part of his body.

Totally about 120 words of dialogue.

All of this character's lines feel somehow friendly, even when he's calling the other person a chump or a fathead. His origin's a mystery, he appears out of nowhere with answers to things. He could be young or old, and any accent.

  • You chump! Maybe next time you'll obey the rules, and not sneak by without finding out things!

  • See that short rod with the spring-clip? Squeeze that clip and pull the rod back. Move, you fathead!

  • (Kindly, after the other character did something correctly.) When you get back home, bone up on things.
